  1. As some of you know, about 5 or 6 years ago someone got into my paypal account and went on a spending spree......Since then I refused to use Paypal..........everything worked out ok as I recouped my funds..... but, I didn't ever want to go thru that again.......Since I started handling orders for the club..(fleeces and shirts), some of you have requested that I use it again........I resisted this and vowed never again.......I felt very bad that the club lost orders because of me....sooooo, today I opened up a new account.....anyone wishing to place orders and use this payment may do so as of now.........please pm me with your order stating all the required information........and remember all proceeds from the orders goes to VENTURERIDERS... I TAKE NOTHING FOR DOING THIS...... TJL7509@yahoo.com thank you all in advance........... I PM'ed Freebird this info and he will be adding it to the merchandise forum when he can...
  2. I don't know how many of you knew Colin - he started the UK Venture Club and was active in touring with the motor touring club europe (MTCE). I didn't know, but was just looking up the shop phone number for a UK member. This is the news report: http://www.kentonline.co.uk/kentonline/news/2009/september/23/three_kent_bikers_killed.aspx He wasalways very welcoming in the shop and it was only a few weeks ago I dropped by with a pack of biscuits to tell him about the carb diaphragm replacements I had fitted. He was looking forward to his next tour. just doesn't seem possible. I've just lifted this info from the UK site:
  3. Hi All, Just wanted to let you know that I've updated my blog at http://www.RideBellChain.com. This week's article talks about the Southern Cruisers Riding Club (SCRC). Hope all is well, and ride safe! Mark Turkel 2008 Yamaha Royal Star Venture SCRC #456 http://www.RideBellchain.com/Gallery/images/RSV081409/IMG_0581.jpg
  4. If you ordered a fleece jacket within the last 2 weeks and have not recieved it yet, I will be sending the remainder of the orders out on saturday morning.........thank you for supporting our club...........Fall is here and Christmas is around the corner...they make great presents!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Hi, I'm new so if this isn't the right place for this I'm sorry. I have saphire blue and white frt. and bk. fenders and wheels, side covers and a new tank for a 1996 RSTC. These will fit later models up to 2001 I think. The tanks is only a few months old but the rest is from the bike(I bought a new set of everything for custom painting). All in very good condition. I thought I woud offer it to club members before I put them on Ebay. I would like $400 plus actual shipping for all. I would consider a trade for some parts such as a backrest and rack from a 2005 RSTD. I will email pictures to truley interested parties. Thanks RENO
  6. I haven't been over here in a while and I'm not sure if any of these guys were members but we had a tragic event last week with members of the UK Venture club who were over in Italy riding with what was the European Venture club that evolved into the Motorcycle Touring Club of Europe, MTCE. Anyway, here is the link: http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/World-News/Three-British-Motorcyclists-Are-Killed-In-A-Crash-At-A-Tunnel-In-Italy/Article/200909415387266?lpos=World_News_News_Your_Way_Region_8&lid=NewsYourWay_ARTICLE_15387266_Three_British_Motorcyclists_Are_Killed_In_A_Crash_At_A_Tunnel_In_Italy Colin was very helpful for me when I organised the big Euro Tour back in 2004 when over 40 Venture riders from the US & Canada came over for a two week tour of Europe by bike. club names

Please be careful about posting club names, especially certain 1%er clubs. They actually have folks who monitor the web for their name. If it pops up in a thread on a forum, it could cause problems.
  8. This should be really interesting - Watching golf on the telly and heard that Steve McNair was found SHOT dead. gunfight ? - guns in a club ? I'm going to go out on a limb and say that there's more to this than the media is going to print
  9. Alan and I have been members of the Ulysses Club.org for twelve years now, and try to spend our annual holidays travelling to, and attending the Rally and AGM held every year in a different state of Australia. It's the largest club in the southern hemisphere (27,533 members in Australia), and has even gone international to about seven countries. The club runs on very similar lines to VR.org--that's probably why I feel so much at home here!! AND "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" It was started 26 years ago by three guys looking for somewhere to socialise and have comradeship in their senior years.(with their wives etc) Their days of "hooning" were over and they just wanted to ride and enjoy. So I thought I would show you a couple of pics of rallies and some of the silly things we do to raise money for charities. (mostly for children & arthritis research) Thats Alan as the "phantom" and also as a woman (YUK) on the "shockin' Frock Run" where the men had to dress female (riders pay $10 & pillion $5) then there is a "beauty contest":rasberry: A couple of years back I even shaved off my hair, while a friend went "blue" for Luekemia research. I'll do most anything for the kids!! :happy34: So now I belong to the two best "family" clubs in the world, it doesn't get any better than that!!
  10. Dear friends. I would like to thank all of you that attended "Maintenance Day" for your warmth and welcome you represented to me when I was in your beautiful country last June. Like I have said none of you could ever imagine how much this meant to me and how comfortable you all made me feel. I had no doubts that this club had great people but I have to say that you guys are simply the greatest ever. Everbody were so friendly and I have made so many good friends and am just overwhelmed. I lack words to explain how thankful I am and I thank God that he guided me to this club and all of you people. May you all ride safe and I hope that I will have the oppurtunity to meet you all again in the coming years. Warmest greetings from Iceland (Greenland at the moment). Jonas - StarFan
  11. I have a 2007 RSV purchased new in crate in June 2008. Washed and waxed today and noticed rust starting on welds on kickstand, crashbars etc. This bike has 2900 miles and is garage kept covered and covered when out overnight. Would this be covered as a warranty item?? Need to stop rust at weld joints before it gets out of control. Thanks to all at VentureRider for a great club and web page. Perch
  12. Figured I'd fess up. Pullled into a gas station on the way home from Don's yesterday. I'm in the habit of leaving the bike on the sidestand while Sam gets on and off the bike. Gassed up, went to start it before she got on, couldn't get it into neutral so I picked it off and put the stand up to start it and get it into neutral, brain farted and forgot to put the stand down, started leaning it and over she went. Fought like heck with it but couldnt stop it, she eventually stopped up against the pump. Only damage I see is the headlight visors are shot and my stupid ego. Does the 'Dropped it' club pay dues??
  13. I am so tired of Big Tom telling me that I have no friends and having to review his long list of Venture rider friends. So I implore you....help me shut him up! I am accepting any friends. Short...Tall....Skinny....Pleasing Plump...any nationality....race...creed...or religion. All US or non US citizens are welcome. Join the Friends of the Friendless Club Now!. BeFriend me now..... Thank You.
  14. As always we look back at the year that has passed and think to ourselves what if i would have done this diffrent???? what would it be like now?? to bad we cant change some of them.. i want to share one that im glad i made. Joining this club this is the first internet club that i have ever joined and stayed with i looked at face party once and myspace but im 41 not 21 and i have a passion for motorcycles (and food) so here is my story in 2005 i was deployed for the war on terrism when I came home after 16 months of.. well you can imagine. I had no wife no motorcycle (sold it before i left to leave her some extra money) and no real home to speak of so the soldier in me took over went through a diviorce and a very lonley christmas last year. this year the holidays will be diffrent though i have no one special to share them with i have made many new friends here and youwill have to believe me when i say it makes a HUGE diffrence. 15. just wanted to let all know that the royal riders are having a wv rally in the cannan valley area. i post it in the rally forum under other club rallies. several of the guys at asheville rally was wanting to come, and all are welcome to come by and meet, eat, ride and talk about bikes.
  16. Ok folks, I ran into what I feel are the ultimate wiring diagrams for bikes. Please go to www.kojaycat.com and do some reading. Currently they do not offer diagrams for Ventures. However Colin would be interested in working with us to make them for all needed Venture series. I need to see what the the club input is on this idea. I figure about $30 to $40 per set U.S. Might be less. The 1500 Wing set is right in that range. We have a sister club in the U.K. that would probably be interested. I will send them the same message. We might need to help with pictures of components etc. JB
  17. As we approach the 5,000 member mark, I think it's time that we think about a contest. How about a $100.00 gift certificate from New Enough? As you know, they contribute $1.00 per sale when one of our members buys from them and chooses VentureRider as the sponsor club. We have already given away one prize from there and we have enough in the account there now to give away another one. So.....put your thinking caps on and let's decide how to do this one.
  18. I'm going on a long trip the end of August, and I would like to be tracked, by both the wife & club members. looking for (in a word) a not so expensive unit. Plan on 6500. miles in 20 days
  19. Anybody ever wonder, or know how many 2nd Generation RSV's Yamaha has built? Saw a post that there were almost 4k members of this club.... tried a Google search, but no luck. Anybody have any idea??

    Volunteers

I stole this article, but I really don't care ... it sends a very clear message about what it takes to make things happen in a volunteer organization: *** Recreational Club Volunteers Historically, motorized recreation sports have always required a high percentage of volunteers. The list of things that need to be done to make a club or other organization run smoothly can easily exceed the capacity of one person or a small group of people. Club volunteers are typically involved in; * Getting everyone involved safely. * Making sure that our special events go smoothly. * Keeping schedules and web sites up to date. * Operating and monitoring the communication structure whether it is a BBS, email or newsletters. * Setting up new systems by which the club will be able to add more services for its members. * Helping other club members out, whether it is by answering a tech question on the Forum or by helping with an oil change * Leading the club and charting its growth. * Doing a lot more work than we would ever want to do by ourselves and they do it for free. * Staffing activities at our events. * Conducting most of the work that ever gets done by any organization. * Recruiting for our clubs, organizations and fund-raiser events. * Advocating for our sport. Knowing the importance of volunteers and knowing that they have such a short lifespan forces us to ask the question, "What is the proper way to care for and feed a volunteer?" For volunteer peers and their leaders it boils down to what we call "P.A.R."; PRAISE, APPRECIATION and RESPECT. Think of P.A.R. as the currency that you use to compensate volunteers. The only limit to the P.A.R. that you give a volunteer should be the goodness of your heart and the sincerity of how you deliver it. Praise. A volunteer may not always need praise but he will always be glad to receive it. Praise should always be heartfelt and sincere. This is as simple as telling a volunteer that he has done a good job when you see that he has done a good job. The proper care and feeding of a volunteer demands heartfelt and sincere praise be given to the volunteer. To really make the volunteer feel noticed try praising him in front of his peers when it is applicable. Such a small gesture does wonders for the health of that volunteer. Appreciation. Show your appreciation of a volunteer by never criticizing him in public or in front of other volunteers. Should the need to criticize a volunteer arise you need to be tactful and polite and you need to handle it in private! Never criticize a volunteer without, at the same time, letting him know that you appreciate him for the work that he has done for you and your organization. In other words, make it clear that it is not the person but that action that is being critiqued. Don't let it get personal. Criticizing volunteers without first making sure that they feel appreciated or doing so in public has been proven to shorten their life span dramatically and sometimes causes an immediate end to that person's volunteerism. Respect. Volunteers usually need an extra measure of respect. In fact, as a volunteer don't they deserve it anyway? This is especially true when things don't go exactly right. Volunteers are human, too, and, as humans they can sometimes make mistakes or not meet your reasonable expectations (All of your expectations for volunteers are reasonable, aren't they?). There may be times when a volunteer "spouts off" or "blows off some steam." This might become evident in something they say or something that they do. When this happens try to give them a little bit of extra room. Odds are their frustration stems more from the fact that they may have missed their mark than it does that they actually did or didn't do something right. No volunteer, especially one in any kind of motorsports, likes to "lose face" in front of others. We are a proud lot. If you have a volunteer that needs to blow off some steam, it helps to step away from the volunteer and give him time to reflect on what has happened. It has been observed that handling a volunteer in this manner is typically the fastest way to bring him around. In most clubs everyone who does anything for the club is a volunteer. Even if you don't volunteer to help a club out you should still think of yourself as a "volunteer" in your clubs' "Volunteer Appreciation Program" by seeking ways to show the volunteers in your club the extra measure of consideration that their work on your behalf calls for. Be active and join in on the conversations and events. Both social and riding when time allows. Rewarding volunteers is a responsibility that every person who benefits from their work shares equally. Showing P.A.R. to volunteers isn't just what volunteer leaders should do it is what we all should do.
  21. I don't even know where to start here. There have been a number of threads lately that went from fun to tense to downright confrontational within a few posts. Some should probably never had been started and others were fairly innocent. It seems that some folks are just sitting by watching for anything that they consider ever so slightly politically incorrect and just POUNCE as soon as they see it. That kind of attitude will destroy what we have built here if we allow it to. When I started this group, I set some very basic guidelines and so far, they have worked fairly well. Basically the guideline is that this is a PG rated site. No nudity, vulgarity, dirty jokes, etc. The vast majority here have respected that and I thank you all for it. It gets borderline once in a while but when it does, a short note is all it takes to get things back on track. Another thing we have done here is to try and keep discussions of a political nature, religious differences, etc. to a minimum. To some, there may seem to be a disparity in regards to religious talk. There are many posts here asking for prayer for a member and other such things. That is perfectly acceptable and I'll NEVER try to stop it. What is NOT encouraged are arguments about different religious beliefs or even about whether or not a member does or does not believe. It seems that political correctness has also crept more and more into the objections here. Are people just LOOKING for a reason to be offended? I've seen several fairly innocent jokes that one or two people have been offended by. Actually, I sometimes think that they aren't truly offended, just trying to get something started. We have to all work together folks. If you read something that is not completely politically correct, sometimes you just need to be adult enough to just move on. Let it go. We don't need to make a mountain out of every mole hill. The hyper-sensitivity to political correctness has to stop. None of these issues are major at this point. All sites go through these things as they grow. The more members you have, the more chance that there will be people of drastically different opinions about things. That is especially true when the group is made up of people from all over the nation and world. Political beliefs vary greatly. Differences include politics, gun control, nudity, religion....pretty much everything that touches our lives on a daily basis. Here is the bottom line folks. I love what we have built here. I count many of you among my best friends. You are MUCH more to me than an online community. I would not want to lose a single member due to somebody being offended about a post and/or what types of posts are acceptable here. At the same time, having a LOT of members has never been the primary goal of VentureRiders. I would honestly rather have 500 members who truly are happy to be here than to have 5000 that are fighting and bickering all the time. Being the largest Venture club around is just not important. The friendships are what is important. I will continue, with the help of our very few moderators, to run this site the best way that I know how. I started this club with a general idea on how I thought it should be run. This club exists because of my disagreement with how some other sites were run. I have always tried to get a feel for, ask for, understand your thoughts and opinions. I have always tried to put the desires of the MAJORITY of our members above all else in how I run things here. I will NEVER please everybody. So, I hope that each and every one of you will continue to find something about VentureRiders that you like and will stick around. I hope that we can all be adult enough to ignore those things that we don't like. Move on and just realize that the site is run to please as many as possible and you are NOT going to agree with everything and everybody. If you can't do that though, consider doing what I did when I was unhappy with the clubs already available. Start a new one. Do exactly the same thing I did. Register a domain name, purchase hosting, build a site and run it the way that YOU think it should be run. You decide what to allow and what not to allow. Maybe you have that perfect knack of knowing exactly how to please everybody all the time. You are even welcome to post the link to your new site here. I'm not going to compete with you. This site is free. If somebody leaves, it bothers me because I feel that I have lost a friend or a potential friend but NOT because somebody leaving here costs me any membership dues or may result in us not having more members than another club. The fact is, if you are REALLY unhappy here then it's not worth it. Find some place where you can be happy and if you can't find such a place, build a new one. Maybe there are MANY others who feel the same way you do. Heck, if it turns out that you are truly that much better at this than I am I may even shut this site down and join yours. (not likely though, I'm pretty happy with what we have) I made a mistake before starting this club. I spent too much time fighting with a handful of folks in an attempt to change a place. In doing so, I made myself unhappy and caused others to be unhappy. We are what we are and will try to please as many as possible. If you can be happy here then I am really glad. If you can't though, I'm truly sorry and hope that you will find a place where you can be.
  22. There have been a number of discussions here about the "gremlin" or "guardian" bells. I am working on getting some custom made with our logo and or club name on them. Is there any interest?
  23. I'm thinking that maybe it's time for another contest. What do you think? Any ideas? As you know, we are a listed club at the New Enough website. http://www.newenough.com/ Not only do they have great products, service and prices but when you buy from them, you have the option during checkout to choose VentureRiders as your club of choice. Every time you do that, they make a small donation into our account there. Over time it does add up a bit and then we can use it for rally prizes, contests, etc. So, it's time for a contest to give away some of the money...most of the money...that we have in our account there. So, how about a $100.00 gift certificate from New Enough for a lucky winner. So....all we have to do is come up with a contest. I've had a few thoughts but am open to your suggestions. What do you think?
