hey guys, while the bike was up on the sky hook tonight, I removed the cover over the key to allow the bars to swing to and fro without touching that plastic shroud.. The articles say that a properly tightened steering head should fall to one of the stops and bounce off once and nicely settle down .. However, when I do mine it's like a frikken yo yo.. a push on the bars and it hits maybe 3 or 4 times.. no wonder the bike sometimes feels like it wants to wander in some turns.. Articles say to loosen the big nut and use a common screw driver to bang against the nuts under the top tree but I can't seem to budge that big nut.. I have risers on my bars and maybe those are making it harder to access the nut? Does anyone know what size that big nut is? Is there a torque value for that nut and if so, how do you apply it?

It has been almost one (1) year and 8K miles since I purchased MyPalomino from a dealer in NJ. Bike previously belonged to member Joe McDermott who owned it for a short period of time, during which time he widened the handlebars. Probably to accommodate for his height and arm reach. I have learned to ride MyPalomino with the bar setup and have been quite comfortable with them, however, every time I ride YamaQman's '01 RSV with stock bars and grips, I feel a greater sense of confidence, control and oneness with the bike. The attached photo shows my current setup. I want to change to the stock setup. Does anyone have or know someone who may have a set of stock handlebars with stock grips and weights that they are willing to part with? I have posted a WTB ad in the classified section of this forum but thought I would restate my quest here in order give my request greater exposure and to get any opinions and advice concerning my intended swap out. I have read several of the old threads concerning the installation of Flanders bars but are there any precautions or surprises I should look out for when installing the stock bars? I guess first order of business is to find a set of bars. I hope someone here can help. As I said in the ad, I would consider buying bars separately from weights and grips, as I have seen those listed for sale on ebay fairly frequently. Hopefully, I can get the complete setup from one source. Feel free to PM or contact me through any method on my forum profile. Thanks for any assistance. Jerry

I have a 06 RSTD. Im getting alternator whine from somewhere on my frontend when i get to around 60mph and up. Varying intensity I dont know if theres a weak ground or something. Does anyone else hear a whine around the speedo when they get up that fast. The other part of this is I tried checking my grounds. SOMEONE PLEASE check With a VOM mV from the neg lead to the battery and the pos lead to the bars. Then turn to ignition. Everywhere on my bike shows gounded 2.5mV but the bars and tank show 200-300 mV. Dont know if this means anything. Dont know why the bars arent grounding as they're attached to the triple trees and those show good. I know 300 mV isnt crap but it may point an issue. Please any ideas im going on a long trip in a few weeks and, this sound is driving me insane. Thanks Jeremy

Any one has any idea about how to get the right crash bars for my RS'97? I know that I get those on a Star parts on a two years old catalog, but it seems that nobody else is selling those parts any more. Also, I saw a Lindsay model that I don't like for this bike. I 'm looking for something more round style more than the emblem kind Lindsay has. THanks

So I got a set of Kurakian offset mount highway pegs to go on my 08. The problem is the right peg wants to rotate and loosen up when I put my foot on it, and they both want to rotate around the crash bars, anybody have any ideas on how to deal with this?

Does anybody know if the 1.5 inch riser inserts (the ones that stack on the stock risers) will work on the 99 Venture? I see there are 2 rubber spacers between the handle bars and the faring. If I raise the bars the rubber spacers will no longer make contact with the bars. Is this a concern? And is there an alternative aside from purchacing new handle bars?

I was on yamaha's web site looking at the accessaries. I see they have a set of handle bars to fit the rstd. Has anyone used them? I would like a little more pullback than the stock bars have. which would be better the flanders or the one on the yamaha site? thanks Marty

Hello, I tried a Royal Star but ended up with a VTX. The bars on the RS were much better than my VTX bars and I want to put some on it. Does anybody know the diameter of the bar on the RS, and the width of the section that is clamped? Thanks... Jim

I have purchased a set of risers based on all the wonderful information on the site. My question is, do the bolts have to be torqued? Not that I know much about anything mechanical, but would like to ensure that the handle bars don't come off because I didn't tighten them enough. As always, thanks for all the wonderful help.

Anybody got a set of damaged stock handle bars (2nd Gen)? I want just the ends so I can cut the threaded inserts out for the bar weights for a project that I have in mind.:banana: Any help is appreciated! Bubber aka Steve

I have noticed that on long rides, (300 miles+) I get a slight pain in my back between my shoulders. I have an 08 RSV and it seems like the handle bars need to be slightly higher and back towards me a little more. I can't really sit up straight and get full use of the back rest. Seems like I have to lean forward slightly to get to the handle bars and I end up supporting a small amount of my upper body with my arms (like riding a sport bike but not near as intense) I noticed the handle bar mounts that goes in the triple tree has sort of a sweeping curve to it......its not straight like most. I have a couple of questions: 1. Does anyone make handle bar mounts that will move handle bars back towards the driver about 1" - ! 1/2" that will not require me to altar the front cowling? 2. Will I have to re-route or extend cables and or wiring if I extend handle bar mounts by 1" - 1 1/2"

Other than being the famous last words of the Hindenburg pilot, what does the small slider switch on the dash, to the right of the handle bars at the vertical portion of the dash panel next to the "grate" do? http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq60/ivanstein/IMAGE_018.jpg?t=1227930215

while in a semi dream state, this afternoon, i had a great idea. i;m gonna try to take my passenger floorboards, and re-manufacture parts of them to make "hi-way floor-pegs". i have seen "markland" boards, mounted on the crash bars, and i THINK, i can make passenger boards work the same way. it ain't like i'm EVER going to have a passenger, on purpose! lol has ANYONE ever done this, or seen it done? just jt

I think I have read every post on the forums about the topic(s) - but they seem to be about one or the other and not all 3 at the same time. (See title) Tonight I started the project of replacing the stock bars, adding Kury ISO grips and keeping my stock bar-end weights on my 2007 RSTD. When I took the weights off, I found that the threaded insert in the stock RSTD bar seems to be silicon'ed in. I could see no weld or anything on the bar-end to indicate that it is held in place by anything other than black silicone. Before I proceed I thought I would ask here and see if anyone has come across this and how you removed them from the stock bars. I would like to re-use them if I can, but I can always just weld in a nut. Next question is - I bought the ISO "universal" fit grips and it says that it doesn't come with a throttle tube (to use the old one). I have the grip completely off the left side - and the rubber off the throttle side - but there is a chrome plastic part up at the top. Do I have to take the throttle assembly off to get the chrome "stepped" ring off? Thank for your help - remember I am talking about an 07 RSTD if that helps. I am taking pictures as I progress and I will post a step-by-step when I am done so that it might help others in the same boat. Thanks, Shep

Does anyone know where I can find a left and a right threaded #10 , 1.25 thread , about 3/4" long stainless allen cap screw? These go where the mirrors would fit on the flange of an 87' VR at each reservoir on the handle bars. They hold down covers and other controls on the handlebars. Mine are stripped out. Thanks for the help!!

Does anyone have the Kurakyn Part Number for these "P" clamps which will fit on the front crash bars of a 06 Venture? Thanks in advance for the info! Regards.........Boomer

Anyone know of some good clamp on footpegs that will fit crash bars that are less than 1"? The crash bars on my bike are 7/8", or around there, and I just have this feeling that 1" clamps will need some... umm... help in staying where I want them. The only ones I've been able to find are from MC Enterprises, called Holey Pegs, that are made for 7/8", but when I checked today, JC Whitney no longer carries them. That's what I get for waiting so long. And I know I could make some of the larger clamps work, I'm just being picky here. Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions on places to look for non-standard sized pegs, let me know!

On my RSV I have the Air Vents that attach to the crash bars. They are tinted plastic mounted to the crash bars. One of mine is cracking and I dont think I can buy the plastic portion. Maybe I can but I cant find it. I am looking for the plastic on the Left side. I dont want buy a whole new set at 200 bucks. I will make a new piece if I can but really would rather just buy one. I am wanting to add with and length (pull back) to my 07 RSMV. I have risers but would like to have the bars much wider and be able to set back without reaching toward the bars. If anyone has made this change, I wouls appreciate you letting me know how it turned out. Also a part number and where you purchased them if possible

I have been considering replacing my stock handlebars and would like opinions from some of you that have done the same. I know some talk about Flanders bars but what about the bars from a Tour Deluxe? The TD bars seem quite a bit wider and looks like they would come back much more than the stock bars. I have not seen the Flanders bars on another bike so I do not have anything to compare them with. Would the Flanders or the TD bars be the better choise? If so why?

Also posted this in the tech. forum but, no response yet and I want to ride soon! So,any help you can provide, is MUCH appreciated. Just installed Barons risers in my 2000 MM RSV. I installed the risers in about 20 minutes, as everyone said it would take. However, my throttle cable is so stiff when bars turned right, the throttle sticks and doesn't return to idle. I read that you can re-route the throttle cable..... New territory for me here, the throttle cable disappears into a black abyss..... Not sure where to loosen or reroute. BTW, sitting in the garage, the bars sure feel a lot better. I also took the rubber bumpers, flipped em upside down and backwards, seem to be wedged in there quite nicely. Any other ideas on how to reduce the tension? Danka. Erich
