  1. My wife, Denise called me at work today to let me know the computer was on fire. I told her to unplug the tower and grab the fire extinguisher. Came home, opened the case and sure enough the circuit board is fried, scorched or melted almost everything inside. I was lucky Denise was home or Lord knows what may have also caught fire. So what desk top/ laptop computer do you guys and gals think I should buy for a replacement? I had a dell dimension 2400 running XP which had been upgraded a couple of times with more ram etc. I am now using the OLD HP windows 98 I gathered back from the attic to ask this question and it is super slooooow!! I even have to use internet explorer because it can't handle Moxzilla of Flock browsers. Any computer sales right now? Dave
  2. Trying to pull the computer module so I can re-solder it. Thought there was a tech article on how and what to solder??? Can't find it! Anybody???
  3. In attempting to play a DVD in Windows Media Player 11, I keep getting a message that the computer does not have a Compatible DVD decoder? Any recommendations which one I should use or load. Is this the computer or the DVD problem? And is it free?
  4. Well its been awhile since I posted on here and for that I'm sorry.. As most of you know I work two jobs and get if I'm lucky 3-4 hrs of sleep then back to work. A lot of things went south like the main phone line at home. Then the new dish internet system din't turn out, most of the time dead space. Changing over to another wireless internet first of next year. Now my computer went down so I'm looking at some lap tops. Figure a lap top would be better for me since I'm not home that much and I would be able to log on from work doing lunch and breaks and so on. I'm up at my Mom's for a family Christmas today. So I using her computer to get things done today. Boy I Had a lot of Email..WOW -Thank you Also Thank You so much for the PM's.... Looking forward to see everyone at the Hub next year. Or Maybe sooner as we might have another Oklahoma meet in April or May of 2009??? Merry Christmas & God Bless each and everyone. Buddy
  5. Greetings all! I have a small issue I would like to lay on the table. I have a new Zumo 500 and the MapSource map/software for North America as well as Iceland installed on my computer as well on my memory card in the Zumo. Have been planing some routes from Woodstock twn,NY to Oberlin OH. for my trip to Freebirds Maintenance Day. When I make a route on the map that is stored in my computer I can push a button that says "open in Google Earth". No problem there - it opens in Google Earth but the route does not follow the roads. Just straight lines from each trackpoint to another that I had made in the MapSource. Doesn´t help much if I want to take a ride in 3D on Google Earth to see the landscape I will be riding through. Does anybody know if there is a way around this to make the route follow the roads in Google Earth, previously trackpointed in the MapSource map? Then again - Maybe this is not compatible???? Note that transferring the routes from the computer to my Zumo is no problem and works just fine. Hope you get my drift!
  6. I have to purchase a software program for our office that has greeting cards, etc. You all know I am not a computer wiz...so I need some advice. What program is easy for someone like me to install/use. My computer is a Vista. We send a lot of corporate birthday cards, Christmas wishes but also personal cards. I would also like to be able to use photographs that we have taken and use them in the cards. Anyone have any advice? I really need an easy program to use.
  7. That the word processor on this site seems to be becoming more and more unstable. I keep having lock up problems message deletion and weird things happening when trying to used the enhanced features. The attachment and smilie functions take forever to load up if they do at all and quite often lock the computer up when they are used. Today for some odd reason the program kept deleteing the last paragraph of a post on a private message every time I retyped it about a dozen times. Just the last paragraph. What's up with that?
  8. Hi all, I am a bit of a computer geek and have a home server that does my security cams and other stuff too. One of them is a "Teamspeak 2" server. This is the thing gamers and others use to talk for free, in groups or 1 on 1. You have to know how to use your microphone feature on your computer to do it. Headphones and a mic work best.ie:no feed back. So, anybody that wants to try and use it:PM me for a "User name" and "password" then, download http://www.goteamspeak.com/?page=downloads Try it out on one of their test rooms,if you can find them. And from there I"ll show you how to connect to the room and chat. Also if there are any gamers in the club, and you have "Xfire" Contact me so I can put you on my buddy list. With Xfire and Teamspeak installed it easyer to join other gamers and the Ts2 room there in with one click or so. If you never used this kind of app before. Its pretty kool. Talk for free, for as long as you want,at your computer. To anyone in the world who has Teamspeak running too. I used it for a gaming clan I was in, we played those shootem up war games like Battlefield 1942 and Call Of Duty. But no nobody uses it but me and my sister for the most part, anymore.

Is always screwing with his computer changing things he knows nothing about then calls me up to come see whats wrong with his computer its not working right. 17. Am currently running WinXP with 1gb ram on a P111. Am interested in trying Ubuntu from a CD first to see if I like it. Any comments, suggestions or alternates to Ubuntu you would suggest? Although I'm relatively computer literate, this would be my first real look at linux, so keep the responses in English please.
  18. Those of you who use MP3 players on your bike - could you answer a question for someone (I won't mention any names, but, yes, it's actually me) who doesn't know anything about this new-fangled electronics stuff..... I bought a 8G MP3 player. I understand that they sound best if you rip your music straight from CDs at a minimum 160 Bitrate. I own approx. 115 CDs, and according to the info I got with the player, it should hold them all. I've started ripping the CDs to the computer using the highest quality, constant bitrate of 320. I'm approximately half way through and the computer says my music file is already well over 10G! Do I have to rip the CDs at something less than the highest quality? I figure with the speakers on my Venture, I'll need the best sounding music I can get. Is using a Constant Bitrate the problem or is the 320 the problem. I don't want to have to delete everything I've already ripped because it's been extremely time consuming. Thanks for any info.....
  19. Looking to purchase exhaust chamber replacement system for 1st gen. Tried to find using this site, because it's been mention here before . I have 1/2 of a computer (webtv) so it's probably here.
  20. I am looking at picking up a 89 VR listed as a parts bike. The guy is asking $600. I have seen it and most of the plastic is junk, seat is ripped. Looks like he left it outside all winter and not covered, not sure. Question is what on the bike would still have to work to make it worth the trouble of buying and stripping down? I cannot see his price at this time, claims new computer last year. I have not hooked up a good battery to see what works or if it really starts. He claims all but the cruise work, and it runs good. I need a few parts to get both of my bikes fully functional, different items between them. Thoughts, opinions would help.
  21. I was cruising the web on Saturday and thought I'd look for a site that said why Vinnie left OCC. I found one that said it had a vidio of Sr. but wanted me to update my program. Without thinking( I do that a lot) I said ok and all hell broke loose. Although I have Webroot Spysweeper and Norton Virus on the computer, when staring up I get a screen of green fields and blue sky, the real screen with icons comes on, then the screen comes on with the icons again in a dark blue screen. Athough my scans come out with no problems, I get popups telling me I "may have a virus and click here to correct". When I do its an add for software. I'm running XP. I'm wodering if anybody knows of some software that can help, or does the machine have to be taken down and everything reinstalled? Thanks Kenw
  22. Hi To All: I have an 83 Venture that I have just finished my "Spring Cleaning" of by removing all plastic and cleaning the bike completely. After replacing all the plastic the fuel guage now has no display and the red light is flashing. Thinking that the computer module might be the problem I tried another computer module that I have with the same results. When I turn the key on you can quickly see three (3) bars in the fuel guage and they go out. Has anyone seen or had this problem before?
  23. Hi all, Just wanted to let everybody know in this neck of the woods that my web site is down and I don't know how long it'll be that way, so for now; I'll be sitting on the side lines and trying to keep up with things through the wife's web site. Even though hers works and mind doesn't on the same computer, I'll just do hit and miss things without actually knowing what I'm doing if that makes any scense, wish me luck, lol.
  24. I received an email from Paul Meyers "Newman" asking if a "computer help" topic area would be useful. This was actually also suggested long ago. At the time, I kind of thought that there were enough computer site helps out there and never did anything. The truth is though, we do get quiet a few computer questions here. It's just natural that when you have a club that communicates via a website that computer questions will come up. Whether related to the way something works here or computers in general. We already had an area dedicated to "Tips for using the forum" so I've simply expanded that title to include computer help in general. Paul has offered to help with the questions posted there and I know that we have several other members here who are very good (some even do it for a living) that will jump in and help when needed. With such a great base of knowledge here and people who are willing to help, we may as well do what we can to help each other. So, that topic has been renamed "Computer help and tips for using our site" or something like that. Near the bottom of the main forum page. We get the questions anyway, usually in the Watering Hole, so why not start taking advantage of the area set aside for such things. I'm sure that we can all learn from it.
  25. Apple's New Mac Book Air. Thats realy slick computer. What do you think? http://www.apple.com/
