  1. I fixed the cracks in my trunk lid (I hope) and was reconnecting the wiring for the vanity mirror and the tail light when I noticed that there was a crimp in one of the wires where it was pinched by the lid. This has happened before on my bike. Anyone have a good way to protect this wiring and give it the flexibility it needs to open and close the lid? Iowa Guy
  2. I got to wondering why so many techs were having trouble diagnosing radio/audio related problems on RSV's. So I was looking through the service manual wiring diagrams thinking things should be pretty straight forward. What I discovered is a lot of missing information. Neither of the headset connections or the rear remote are shown on the diagram. None of the interconnect wiring for the CB or anything else is shown. Only some of the wires and connectors from the MCU are shown. No antenna connections are shown. None of the repair messages the radio presents were shown in the troubleshooter. No wonder this is such a 'guess how' fix area on these bikes. If anyone has a complete wiring diagram for the audio system on the RS Venture how about posting it. Mike
  3. I've been looking at purchasing the J&M CB Radio. Does anyone have experience with this product? The only thing I'm concerned about is the dual mode one for two riders with all the necessary wiring, head sets, antinnia can cost up to $700! Any thoughts suggestions? Thanks Mark
  4. I am looking to hook up my heated gear.My plan was to run a relay off of a wire that is only hot when the bike is running. Does anybody know of such a wire on the RSDT? I have them on my cars and have had them on 2 Yamahas. I have studied the wiring schematic but I can't find one. Thanks
  5. Looking for advice. Installed a yamaha wing on the trunk lid with brake light in it. As such, the wiring is not the best. I have connected wiring per the directions. Did the check and lights are on as running light, but will not come on "bright" when brake applied. Any comments? On a side note, the means to connect the wires to the bike, seem a rather cheap and not reliable means, but can work. Any feedback or comments appreciated.
  6. can someone please tell me where to get the wiring to tow a trailor? I would like to hook one up.
  7. rod

    Old Goldwing

I have a friend that had his starter solenoid melt down on his 86 1200 wing. Does any one have the wiring diagram? Thanks Rod
  8. speed sensor has 3 wires L/Y, W, B/L which one is power, ground, sensor signal wiring diagrams confuse the he-- out of me.
  9. I know this has been covered many times before. I have a 2000 RSV that I want to wire for my trailer. I have a modulite that I tried to hook up per Freebirds article, but never got it to work. Got it off Ebay a good while back. Might be one of the bad one's that I hear about. The trailer is 100% LED. Do I have to run a modulite? Or, can I wire into the wiring behind the license plate. The trailer is a flat 4 wire LED kit I got from Harbor Freight. If I can tie directly into the wiring behind the license, will I be able to wire in a round 5 wire coming from the bike, and use a round adapter(pictured in attachment) that changes to a flat 4 wire to connect to the trailer? I already have the adapter and have hooked it to my pickup and the trailer works perfect. Brake lights, turn lights, etc. It is a six wire adapter to a 4 wire, looks like it will work on a 5 wire round hookup also. Thanks in advance for any help. Charles
  10. Anyone out here have a Calif. Friendship III sidecar? I'm looking for the wiring diagram for mine. Also looking for a place to buy parts.
  11. I purchased the Stebel air Horn mount and wiring from Carbon-one on this site and I received today in the mail. I got to tell you, Carbon-one does and Xcellent job with the wiring harness and the mount! They look better than professional. The mount is chrome and looks great! The wiring harness is just perfect in design and I just couldn't believe how well it all looks for just $27.00! If you don't have this equipment, you should get. It is the Bomb! Thanks Carbon-one! First class equipment for my baby! Mark:bowdown:
  12. Ok folks due to several requests for a wiring system for the Stebel horns I've built up several assemblies. They will be a plug and play ststem so nothing will be needed. Included with the harness will be a rubber covered fuse holder, 30 amp relay, fully insulated & soldered teminals. Check out my ad in the 2nd gen parts & accessories classifieds. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=2541 Thanks in advance, Larry
  13. For the Northern VA guys on here, does anyone know of someone that could wire my 04 RSV for the purpose of pulling my HF Trailer? I am going to install the Venturedad hitch myself, but am too much of a chicken to try the lights wiring. I am not looking to do it until after Christmas, but would like to go ahead and plan to have it done. Thanks Ben
  14. Has anyone ever seen or thought about making a control box that can plug into the existing CD player wiring (located in the saddle bag), then have an Ipod plugged into it, that converts the command signals from the built-in audio system to the Ipod, and also converts the audio from the Ipod back into the built-in audio system? (Whew, that was a long question.) I have seen other threads that just plug the Ipod into the existing Aux jack and use various wireless remotes to control it. It seems the holy grail though would be to use the existing CD interface that the bike already has. No extra wiring or remote. I am sure if the control box I describe existed, people would pay for it. I know I would.
  15. So I bought some of those cheap driving lights at WalMart...Blazers I think. They're 50 watt...nice bright lights. I ordered a switch and relay from Electrical Connection and wired it up. I did a good job of wiring and figured I would replace the lights at some point with something better and keep the wiring, switch and relay. So the issue is that if the bike is idling and I switch the lights on, they don't always come on. But if I start riding, they will come on, then sometimes go out and come back on intermittently. Is it the lights, the switch, or the relay? Or is it the stator? Or, is it possible I have a loose connection or ground? Has anyone experienced anything like this on a 1st Gen Venture?
  16. Well guys, after a bunch of research on the subject, I broke down and ordered a Scorpio SR I900. This puppy has RFID technology so it automatically disarms when you approach and arms when you walk away. It has shock/motion and tilt sensors, a self contained battery back up and an INCREDIBLY load siren. I got mine with the optional Yamaha specific wiring harness, so installation was a snap. Started this morning and had it completely ready to go in less than an hour. Everything fit under the seat. No wires to cut, just a factory connector to unplug and a new harness to insert in the middle. Run one wire to the hot side of the battery, locate the items and you're done. No idea how well it will hold up yet, but it looks well made and at this point works as advertised. I am VERY satisfied thus far and would encourage anyone interested in an alarm to check 'em out. I got mine online at absolutecycle.com for $339 with free shipping, and that included the cycle specific wiring harness. My insurance company gave me a discount of $24 dollars a year-not a chunk, but still better than nothing.
  17. Files Updated on 10/28/2009 Minor corrections done to both schematics. Text realigned for easier reading Gary I have completed the 1999-2009 Royal Star Venture schematics. The 99-09 Yamaha Royal Star Venture Wiring Diagram Rev B file shows all the connectors and resembles the wiring diagram in the 1999 Yamaha Royal Star Venture service manual that is referenced in the Second Gen and Royal Star Technical Library on this site. The 99-09 Yamaha Royal Star Venture Simplified Circuit Diagram Rev B file is the complete wiring for the bike in a much simpler format. Since the wiring connectors are not shown, components can be rearranged in a more logical format that reduces the wires running back and forth. Some of the switches are shown in a more convenient manner also. This file would probably be the one most used for trouble shooting. I have also added a legend to this group to help users understand the schematics better. If you find anything that needs changed on these schematics, let me know & I will fix it. The files will look best when plotted at 11" x 17" size or larger. Office Max, Kinko’s and Staples as well as others can do this for you for a minimal charge if you want a printout. I paid $1.00 for an 11" x 17" color print at Staples. All you have to do is take the PDF file that you download to their store and they can print it. Double click on underlined blue text below to down load the schematics in PDF format. Files were created in Adobe Acrobat 7.0. 99-09 Yamaha Royal Star Venture Wiring Diagram Rev B.pdf 1999-2009 Royal Star Venture From 1999 Yamaha Royale Star Venture Service Manual. Pages 9-7 & 9-8. PDF file pages 485 & 486 of 487. This file combines the MCU, Cruise Control Unit, Cruise switch & D.C. outlet systems on page #1. 99-09 Yamaha Royal Star Venture Simplified Circuit Diagram Rev B.pdf 1999-2009 Royal Star Venture I did this one from a blank sheet of paper. I could not find anything similar in the information I had available. 99-09 Yamaha Royal Star Venture electrical info.pdf This file is a compilation of various sheets from the 1999 Yamaha Royal Star Venture Service Manual that would be helpful when working with electrical system. They are not modified in any way, just as they appear in service manual.
  18. As we know Dingy has made an excellent contribution to the site in the form of the color wiring diagrams. I have printed the wiring diagrams for my 83 VR in a size of 36”x24”, full color and put them up on my workshop wall. It has been great to be able to work on the bike and be able to just look up and “see” the wiring without finding my place again on a small black and white page. This got me to thinking, which RandyA will tell you is very dangerous! How many of the members would like to have large size color prints of the diagrams for their bikes? I called the local Kinko’s to see what the charge would be to print them and was quoted way too much money. (at least for me) So to cut to the chase what I am proposing is this: Each member that would like a large size print would donate to a common fund what they thought the prints would be worth to them. All cost for printing and United States Postal service would be at my expense. ALL of the money donated for the prints would be divided by the number of our members serving us in the military. It would be my intent that the money be used by them to help pay for the cost of phone calls home over the Christmas/New Year holidays. (If this plan is not to your favor then a substitute donation to St. Judes will be made.) I have spoken with Dingy and he has given his okay to go ahead with the idea. I will be setting up a Paypal account later today or you can send checks/money orders. Many of you do not know me but you can check with RandyA and I am sure he will tell you that the money collected will go for the intended purpose. So let’s begin, tell which diagram you want, where to send the diagram to, the amount of your donation and the benefactor of choice. (I will keep records and supply those upon request.) I will print each week from now to the end of November, mailings will go out Mondays, last mailing on November 30. Contact me via private message or my home email and phone number is listed in my profile. Thanks all – working together we can make the Holidays a little brighter for each other. Steve Neal (sgn)
  19. I saw on one of the bike groups a pointer to an installation guide of a headlight delay (pdf). The point is to use a relay to turn off the headlight while the starter is energized. "Doing this eliminates a 10A drain on the battery when it is needed the most." I've not noticed many issues with my RSTD, even with passing lamps on. Has anyone done this with our bikes? Is it a PITA? Dave
  20. I have completed the initial pass on the 1986-1989 model years schematics. My goal in doing this is to make them easier to read and reduce the number of pages needed to display the information. I have used color and line types to make the wiring easier to follow. In some cases I could not use the exact color that is being represented due to visibility and printing issues. For example yellow is hard to see on the screen and does not print well. I have tried to check these as thoroughly as possible. Any errors, corrections or additions that anyone has, please send to me and I will update the files. I have been assisted by fellow member Ozlander with his help checking over my work. I do not have a bike to look at to verify some of this info. I have an 1983 without Cruise or CLASS systems that varies somewhat from the 1986-1989 models. As I update these files I will increment the revision letter at the end of the file name. The files will look best when plotted at 11" x 17" size or larger. Office Max and Staples as well as others can do this for you for a minimal charge if you want a printout. I paid $1.00 for an 11" x 17" color print at Staples. There are four different PDF files for the schematics and one with some reference information from the service manual. To open the PDF file, click on file name shown in blue below. 86-87 Yamaha Venture DS Wiring Diagram Rev A.pdf 1986-1987 Venture XVZ13DS/DSC From 1986-1993 Yamaha Venture Service Manual, page 8-41. 21. A while ago I posted that I was frustrated with my dealer about fixing my bike. Two months later I get it back. To make a long story short. The problem was that the bike would start as soon as you turned the key on. I did not have to touch the start button. The replaced the starter relay, solenoid, and handle bar switch still had the problem. They decided to trace the wires to check for bad wiring. The mechanic spent 25 hours and found an 18 inch section of the wiring harness was bad. The replaced the complete wiring harness. Still had the problem. They called in a Yamaha tech who spent one day on the bike. He was puzzled never saw this problem before. They replaced the entire wiring harness in the fairing but still did not fix the problem. After several techs and non techs traced more wiring they found the problem to be in the radio amp power supply. They put in a new amp and the problem has been fixed and all is good again.
  22. Does anyone have a wiring harness that has cruise control they want to sell. I'm messing with my cruise control cleaning all the switches when I break the cruise control cancel switch plastic that connects to the wire harness and hold the pieces of the switch in its box. Does anyone have one they want to part with?
  23. I started another thread so if any one had downloaded prior versions they would see the update. With help from Ozlander I believe that this is about as good as I can get this schematic. I have added the internal wiring on relays & rectifier. Added coil resistance on relays, generator & ignition coils. Added ignition coil #'s and location on bike. Added bulb p/n's. Cleaned up the wiring in handle bar switch area some more. Overall I have eliminated as many wire crosses as I can. Electrically, this matches what is in the owners manual. I didn't show internal wiring for flasher relay as it is fairly complex, not just a standard flasher. This looks best at 11" x 17" size. Office Max or Staples can print in color at that size for about a dollar. Dingy
  24. I have drawn my wiring schematic into my CAD drafting program. Reason being I am adding cruise control from an 84. This will make it easier for me to do this. Attached is a PDF of schematic. I have tried to make it easier to read by adding some line types & colors so the wiring is easier to follow. There is a color code chart is at the lower left. I rearranged some of the components to eliminate wires crossing unnecessarily. The schematic is the same as the original in the 83-85 owners manual electrically, just rearranged. The only thing I am not sure about is the Diode pack, my bike only one diode in it. The block schematic shows three diodes in the circuit. The wiring schematic indicated two diodes. I did correct an error or two I found in the schematic, one being the ACC terminals in the fuse block. I would like to add the Ignition coil #'s if someone could furnish those also. I changed the graphics for the rear brake switch to match the front brake & clutch switches. It prints out best at 11" x 17" but few of you probably have a laser jet that size. Not to mention a color one. If anyone wants an 11 x 17 B&W copy, I will mail you one for the postage & envelope cost, probably a dollar. I am going to stop at Staples tonight and see if they can do color 11 x 17 prints if anyone is interested. I can get B&W prints up to 24" x 36". Dingy
  25. I'm a newbie to vehicular wiring so I can use a little help. Bought some new fairings and extras. My front wheel cover has a riding light with two wires running on the underside. Question 1) How should I run electricity to this light? I have a rear riding lights. (The big chrome things with about a half dozen small riding lights) They have 2 wires coming out of them. I have taken off all the fairings so I can see the wiring clip assembly that goes to the back light. It is actually disconnected right now. Question 2) How should I run electricity to the riding lights? Question 3) Amp load? (I'm really out of my league here) I do not run a radio. Wouldn't mind having a cigarette lights for running a GPS. With the addition of the extra lights do I have to worry if I have enough amps. (I do not have driving lights though I am considering them) Thank you very much for taking the time to reply and help me. Bob
