Wife and I went to the Yamaha shop yesterday cause I knew they had a Spyder RT in the showroom. My wife is one that "said" she would NEVER ride a motorcycle though she rides with me now. She backed that up with I will NEVER drive one......well now that's changed too. She sat on the Spyder RT (touring model) and said with the biggest grin on her face "I want one". I am so proud!!!! If you have sat on the touring model, you should, they are VERY comfortable. 25K isn't in my budget right now, but when she finieshes nursing school, she's gonna get one. I also asked her about a Goldwing Trike and she said "No, it does't turn as many heads." I love my women and can't wait to look over at her on her new Spyder! Today I celebrate 15 years of marriage to my lovely wife Eileen. It seems like just yesterday that I discovered her standing in that pumpkin patch, barefoot, hair all tangled and wearing that home made feed sack dress. I remember how sorry I felt for her and though I knew that it would be a challenge, I just couldn't leave her in that predicament. So, like a knight in shining armor, I decided that I would make her my wife and just do the best I could with her. I'll admit that it wasn't an easy decision and that I didn't accept her proposal the first time she asked. But WOW...look at the fine lady that she has become because of my willingness to take such a chance. It has actually worked out quite well and she really cleaned up nicely. So....though "celebrate" is a stretch since I am, as usual, out of town...I just want to say that it has been a wonderful 15 years and I hope just the start of many more great years together. In all honesty, without her, I would be nothing. PS: If she were to just HAPPEN to read this....I just want her to know that I WILL find out who hacked into my account and wrote that first paragraph and they WILL be punished severely.

Saturday my wife & I went out of town for a little trip. The road we were on was an incline. There was some road construction and the asphalt ended. The road was a thick gravel/shale. I drove up this winding incline and had enough. I told my wife I was going to make a U-turn and go back. Guys, don't ever try to do a U-turn on an incline, on shale, on a 800+ lb. bike, with 2 passengers! Learn by my stupid mistake. I went into my turn, didn't have enough power, tried to accelerate, back tire lost traction, caught traction and threw my wife off the back into the road on her back, front tire slid out and I went down! Messed up the crash bars and dinged up my lt rear trunk pretty bad. And I dinged up my pride too. Worst of all I hurt my wife. I can't tell you the guilt I felt and still feel. Her lt elbow was lacerated. She has a large hemotoma on the elbow. She is aching all over. She took it a lot better than I did.

I understand that Yammer was Santa's little helper this year. A person would think his friends wouldn't be conniving with one's wife without telling him about it. I'm happy anyway, I got extra chrome for Christmas....Thanks buddy.

I'm relatively new to the site and immediately felt a sense of "family" here. Although I tend to "josh" a lot and poke fun, there is a serious side and I'm dealing with that tonight. My lovely mother-in-law's funeral will be tomorrow. She passed last Friday from COPD, an insidious nasty consuming fate of which I hope never to have to be witness to again. Michelle, my wife, a firstborn and I were with Mae every day for the past 17 months. We did all we could to make her comfortable although we knew the inevitable. Please pray for us tomorrow as Michelle not only celebrates her own birthday but lifts her mom up. Thank you all,,, Renne

Well I've been watching pull behind Motorcycle Trailers on Ebay for some time. Every once and awhile I would show my wife one I thought was nice to get her opinion. Without saying a word she bought me one last night. I had pretty much I would just get a large piggy backer, but she ending up getting me an all Diamond plate with 18 cubic feet of capacity, chrome wheels, torsion axle, carpeted interior and LED lights. It only weighs 190 empty. I am stoked and realize just how lucky I am. (Mini & Cindy she even can stand me Nekid:rotf:) Can't wait to for it to be delivered. COME ON SPRING!!!

I need to know, please, how many are coming to our house to spend the night for Savannah M&E the weekend of November 14. I believe both bedrooms are already spoken for (parties please confirm);:draming:The big couch is reserved for Riderduke:whistling: and I think Mimi's going to crash out on the smaller couch. The bunkhouse is available, just bring sleeping bags as we have four or five air mattresses, as well as blankets and pillows! I want to be sure to have everything ready as much as I can before I leave for Alabama that Thursday evening. I will not be here to supervise! so it needs to run as smooth as silk for Sleeperhawk so he can enjoy!. a1bummer said "Me and my better half decided this summer that it was time for her to learn how to ride" That brought back fond memories. Thought I'd share, would love to hear your stories too. To start off I've seen many very accomplished female riders, and I've seen some inept male riders. No gender bashing intent here, just sharing our experience. One day my wife says she would like to learn to ride. I must admit I am excited!!! Not wanting to teach any beginner on a large bike (at the time I rode an 1100 Gold Wing). I purchased a Kawasaki 400. Same reasons a1bummer cited. So after I put several miles on bike to insure safety, my wife gets on the bike. We do this in our two acre empty, unobstructed back yard. Motor is running, bike is in 1st gear. Wife's hand is on clutch. She would not let out on clutch. I start pushing her and the bike around the full two acres, telling her at idle, if she let out on the clutch it would not take off doing a wheelie through the fence as she was convinced it would. 45 minutes later I'm out of breath, friends and family are hanging off the fence holding their sides laughing. We sold the 400 she continues to ride with me, however she never had any desire to learn to ride after that. I'd previously taught several beginners to ride. Looking back though I don't think my wife had a very good teacher.

the wife & I stopped in a Honda shop today, to buy her another visor, for her helmet so, I'm in paying for the new one, and I don't see the wife anywhere., so I slowly look around, as not to miss, the Little wife of 5 ft., I come around the leather jackets, and find the wife sitting on the back of a 2009 Goldwing, trying out the back seat. So I stepped back and just watched. she got off, opened the trunk, checked out the gauges, touched the fairing, walk around It one more time. Then started looking for me. of course, found me, in the leather section, looking at jackets..... I said NOTHING....... GOD!!!! I hope this is a start of a new relationship (For both of us)

In a way, I feel a little bit like Eck. In May the company I was working for decided to shut down. My wife and I were able to make arrangements to start our own data collection call center so we were able to keep ourselves and 20 others employed. We've just started a website and posted the pics from our Halloween get together. I have just returned from my 4 state, 2400 mile "Maintenance Tour" and I wanted to personally thank Steve DuBois, (Steve D), his lovely wife Michelle, Joe Taylor (Shot) and his lovely wife Deborah, Jay Richards (J Richards) and his lovely girlfriend Patricia and all of the VR.ORG members that showed up for Steve D's little "Maintenance Day". I even had the privilege to work on a 1974 R75 BMW and with the help of Steve D got that piece of "rolling history" running so well we were able to take a ride with the proud owner of her. I also had the honor of greeting a group of World War II Vets as they returned home with the North Carolina Patriot Guard Riders and needless to say, there was not a dry eye in the house when they landed. I was treated to some fine southern style pot roast, one of the best steaks I have ever had, AND some world famous Parker's BBQ! Oh Yea, I actually worked on quite a few bikes in between meals and naps and rides and the occasional cigar! Southern Hospitality is alive and well and I am living proof of that fact. My 87'VR averaged 42MPG, never missed a beat over the 2400 miles, and according to my fancy new GPS unit that Jean got me for my birthday, My top speed was 100.8 MPH as a result of a rather brisk afternoon/evening ride I took with a VR.ORG member that will remain nameless (in case his wife reads this post over his shoulder!) I just wanted to take a moment to thank ALL of the VR.ORG members that responded to my original post of "Willing To Work For Food/Lodging" If I didn't get a chance to visit/work on your bike it was due to weather and time limitations. I saw temps. in the high 70's low 80's while in the south but upon returning to Pa. today, I rode into Duncansville with the temp. at 39 degrees and rain. I had more clothes on my back than I did in my travel bag! Thank you ALL again for giving me the privilege to work on your equipment, and for sharing your homes and hearts with me, I was truly humbled by the gesture. Oh, and on a final note, Jean says THANKS for sending me HOME! Earl and Jean

Well I got the word, and Im laid off. Company says their gonna try again in the spring but then they never asked the supervisors for our phones and credit cards before. Rumers are that there closing the doors for good and lots of things are looking like that could be true. So wife and I are putting up the HOUSE For SALE sign and were looking south for work. Looking around Tenn, N or S carolina and W.V. I am a excavating supervisor and also have a Michigan builder's liacense that I plan to switch over to which ever state we move too. Wife still working at a local t.v. station and thank goodness we still have insurance but things look rough there too. I dont expect to start with a new company as a super or even close and willing to take anything decent. Anyone have any leads that may help , they sure would be appreciated. Asking for prayers too, to be honest im scared silly, been in this house for 22 years and raised our family here. I just cant imagine leaving it and moving away but ive been trying to get myself comfortable with the idea for the past few months. Thank you in advance

Here’s the last update on what has transpired since my wreck on Sept. 4th. As some of you might remember, when they did the CT scan after the accident, they had found enlarged lymph nodes in my chest area and also a suspicious look spot on my left lung. The two things together added up to trouble. I got into see a pulmonologist last week. He brings up my CT scan while my wife and I sat in his office. Takes a look and begins to tell us that the other doctors had made a mistake when they looked at the scan. Yes, I do have enlarged lymph node (twice what they should be) and it’s called sarcoidosis. There is over a 99% chance it will never turn cancerous. Then he looks for the spot on my lung that they were so worried about and tells me not to worry about that either. Apparently I have a blood vessel that is a little bigger than normal for that spot in the lung. He zoomed in on it and said, look, see how you can trace it? So it’s all great news. My wife and I were very relieved. The insurance company stopped by my house Saturday morning and gave me a check to total out the bike. So it’s gone for good. I’m not sure if I am going to ride again right now. With winter coming I have some time to think about that part. So here’s the deal of the day. I have an older Neosho 16 cu/ft Starlight trailer, 8” wheels painted black and red that needs some cosmetic work. It is road worthy, has a spare tire and rack for a cooler on the front. I don’t have pics right now but will get. I will sell the trailer and my Sears motorcycle jack both for $150.00. If anyone is interested let me know. The trailer really needs some body work and maybe a paint job, or the frame could be used as the start of a trailer project. I have pulled it for years, though. I just don't need that big of bike again. My wife stopped wanting to travel on the bike a couple years ago, so a bigger bike is overkill. I am curious. I have seen several posts about gear to stay warm when riding in colder weather, but nothing about gear for the warmer states. I would like gear that breathes a LOT. Considering in southern Louisiana, there is the constant race between the barometer and themometer as to which one reaches triple digits first. While I don't mind the net looking stuff, my wife finds it very uncomfortable - itchy to be exact. So I am open to most any suggestions. I just want some protection in case something unfortunate happens in the hot weather. Thanks,

First a little background... I have a 99 RSV that has 125K miles. She is almost completely stock and I ride daily to and from work. A few years ago I decided to check my carb balance (I use a 4 guage set up) and noticed that #3 and #4 cylinder readings "danced" badly at idle. #1 and #2 were holding steady. By increasing the RPMs to around 1200-1300, #3 and #4 both smoothed out nicely, so I adjusted the balance there. It only needed minor tweeking to get all four cylinders to near perfection. Since the bike has always run and pulled smoothly at all speeds and loads, I have continued to use this method since. This info may or may not have any bearing on my current problem. Now to the problem: My wife an I just returned from a two week, 2K mile trip around Colorado riding two-up pulling my Time Out camp trailer some of the time. Total trailer weight was around 350 pounds and around 15-20 pounds on the toung. When I was fully loaded (wife and trailer) I found that I could hardly drive in 5th gear at all. Even on level ground at 65-70 MPH, any time I tried to accelerate or maintain speed on a slight hill, the engine would feel like it was missing severly. I'm talking here about a miss strong enough to shake the fairing until the speedo was almost unreadable and almost 0 acceleration. Back off the throttle or down shift into 4th and things were smooth again. Park the trailer (still two-up) and things are back to normal. Smooth acceleration from 55 MPH in 5th with wide open throtle. Now I realize that I am probably pushing the limit for a 1300cc bike with the load I had, but the severity of the vibration supprised me and I have never experienced it before in this bike. This is the first time into the mountains with this trailer. Thoughts I've come up with: Weak spark plug blowing out under heavy load...had around 2500 miles on them when I left. Porely adjusted valves running just on the edge....never been checked. Just the nature of the beast...down shift and don't worry about it. Any thoughts? Your experiences with heavy loads?

Well, due to some health problems, we had to make a sudden change and move in with the Father in-law. We were offline for a week or better. ( wife killed the cable service a bit to soon) But now we are cookin with gas again. -
It seems that Pick is cheating on Redbeard with Eck!!!!:no-no-no: It has been only two weeks or so since Pick and Redbeard exchanged vows at LaQuinta!!!! And Sleeperhawk is trying to nip this budding romance quickly! Connie (Eck's wife) is being consoled by me.... And Julie is texting her lawyer!!!!!!:confused07: What are these Meet and Eats coming to?!!!:stirthepot:

ok...Today I am headed to the Smoky Mts...Waiting till the sun gets up before I leave due to all the critters that like to run out in front of you. First day today should be about 488 miles till our first destination. Planning on riding most the good places and return Thursday before the Labor Day traffic gets all wadded up. I will be escorting a Ultra Classic up to the area with a really good friend of mine so I will not be enjoying all this alone. Wife really wanted to go but she has to work. So... Stay out of my way if you are in a cage...cause I am coming through. PS photos to follow.

Just to fill the gaps. The wife and I moved the Chattanooga last spring after our house sold. We were there for ten months and Momma got homesick and wanted to be here for the new grand baby. So we packed up and moved back to Michigan. We bought a mobile home to live in while we looked for a house that we liked. Now fast forward to the present... My Father-in-law has had two hip replacements in the last there years, the first went off without a hitch, the second one...Not so well. He has had to go in four more times for surgery on number two, and they still don't have it right and most likely never will. So, he is having a hard time with falling down, because he still thinks he is 30 years old and like to climb on roofs and ladders. Yes, he fell off the roof... He has a huge house with three empty bedrooms now that the brother-in-law moved out (finally) So my wife tells me a few weeks ago, we are just going to move in with Dad and take over the bills and keep him safe. Yesterday, He and I along with my two youngest boys, were moving out all of the crap that Brother left behind and my wife was cleaning the house. After one trip to the storage unit with his truck, my Tahoe and trailer it was time for dinner. Momma made my favorite summer time dinner, Brats!! We sit down at the table, Dad is complaining of a headache and looks very tired, after all he is 70, he should be tired. Well, he takes one bite of food, and GRABS HIS CHEST!!! Now he is huffing and puffing like a pedophile at recess and saying "I can't breath"! And starts to retch like he is gonna get sick. I've worked on the road for ten years, I have seen a chit ton of cardiac patients, but never actually saw the start of a heart attack.... till now. I didn't have anything with me, no oxygen, no AED, No ET tubes, no PB cuff... Nothing that I needed right then. Momma calls 911 and I sit there talking to him, like words could actually help him at that point. About 6 minutes after the on-set we have four police cars, two fire trucks, an Echo unit and an ambulance in the yard. ( it helps to be known I guess) Two minutes later he is running code down the highway to the hospital. The wife spent the night at the Hospital with him and as of this AM nobody knows what happened to him. They have ruled out a Stroke and a Heart attack They are keeping him for a few more days to run tests to make sure everything Cardiac is ruled out... Meanwhile, here I sit with my thumb firmly planted.
