RSV Front Tire Size Recap
Jethroish replied to V7Goose's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Good reading. I put the leveling links on my bike within the first 2500 miles. Made a big difference to me. My bike came with D404s. Now at 13,000 miles, I just ordered a set of Dunlop Elite 3s in stock size. The 404s have wore quite well for me. I hope to see a little improvement over the 404s. I considered the Avons, but as said ealier, I have gotten good wear out of Dunlops on both my RSV and wife's VStar and therefore could not justify the higher price for Avons. BTW, got the Elites from SWMoto for $235. -
Yamaha factory rep finally called
Jethroish replied to ediddy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Not to hijack the thread, but I am putting new tires on in the next week or 2. I was going to use the high temp, red lithium wheel bearing grease I have. Is that going to be sufficient? -
Ordered a set of Elite 3 today from SWMoto. Great price from them: $235 for the set. Local shop will mount and balance for $15 per tire.

Clark county prosecutor has filed no charges against either person; however, he has turned the case over to a grand jury. The biker has prior run-ins and the shooter had brandished her firearm within the last 12 months in another incident.

Pretty much have to say I agree

Only 7000 per rear tire? That does not seem like much.

44 Average MPG *Fixed* YaaaaHooooo
Jethroish replied to FuzzyRSTD's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
My 46 mpg is riding 60 to 65 mph. I use the 87 octane, very lightly loaded, and no racing off the line at lights. -

Glad to hear you got the mpg thing worked out. My last check, I got 46.26 mpg on my RSV, and I have yet to sync the carbs, but I will be doing that very soon. The first I heard the "clicking/creaking" from the rear tire of my RSV at about 2500 miles. -

According to witnesses, biker was at the intersection waiting to turn. Woman came up behind him fast and close. He got off his bike and walked back to her SUV. As he was talking to/confronting her, his (false) teeth popped out. The woman, a licensed CCW holder, thought he was spitting at her and she shot him once in the chest with a 38. It appeared this all happened in the street and the woman did not exit her vehicle. She has not been charged. The biker was in surgery.

I have 12,600 on the original D404s. Looking at/measuring the tread, I have probably have another 3000 miles left on the rear. Front tire "looks" good, but I have noticed that, as it wears, I feel a little meandering in turns.

Thanks for all the replies. Local shop has Avons for $335 mounted for the set. I can get the tires slightly cheaper from SWMOTO, but shop charges extra mounting if I do't buy from them. Turns out to be a wash.

Needing new tires soon, so: For those of you that run Venoms on your bikes, how are they on wet roads or in rain? Not that I go out looking for rain to ride in, but it happens some times. Just to look at them, they don't look as though they would channel away the water.

I do have a craftsman lift. Will it go high enough? I plan to change both front and back tires. Thinking about wide white walls.

I have seen feedback on several tires but guess I missed that about the Metz. My dad has run 880s on his Kaw Voyager for years with no problems, averaging 18,000 miles. Of course there is the Dunlop issue. I'm please with 12,500 miles on my original, but notice that as these 404s have worn (front especially) they tend to shake with the tread pattern just a bit.

Yep. That is pretty much it. I have read a couple threads here about it and feel confident that I can do it. My concerns are: 1) does the driveshaft have to be removed from the bike? 2) is there any "specific" alignment concerns when mating the final drive with the wheel and, 3) will my Craftsman MC lift get the bike high enough to get the wheel out? Aside from that, I just need to get a pair of spring washer pliers.

Well, 12,500 miles later, the Dunlop D404 is getting close to giving up the farm. I have been checking online and local shops for tire and labor prices. The stealerships are absolutely outrageous. One wanted nearly $250 just for a Metzler ME880 then another $75 to remove and install. Found a shop that will mount and balance for $35 if I remove the rear wheel myself. That is what I will be doing in the next few weeks.... SO BE WARNED! I'll be calling on all the experts here.

Wish I could have made it. I am needing (although bike not running rough) a carb tune and very soon need a new rear tire. Maybe next year.

Highway speed vibration
Jethroish replied to Jethroish's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Just to clarify, my 30 mile ride from home to work is all in a 55mph zone. I normally have the curise set at 60 - 62, in 5th gear for that ride. This vibration is something that, maybe did not just begin, but such that I really noticed it. I'll be riding it all weekend and keep tabs on it. -
Started to get a vibration today at 60mph. Bike accelerates great and pretty smooth. But got on the throttle heavy at 60 mph in 5th gear and it felt like an off-balance tire or an engine vibration. I have been thinking that I need to get the carbs synced, so I immediately thought that maybe one cylinder was getting fuel starved at high demand, but it did not do this high rpm in lower gears. Carbs out of sync? Just need a good cleaning? I was at WallyWorld so got a can of SeaFoam and put half of it in with full tank. I'll give that a try first. I also checked to make sure all plug wires were on. My other thought is, as I have read here before, that getting on the throttle hard in 5th gear at 60mph is just not gonna get it done. No torque. Am I on track or missing something? Bike is 2007 RSV, 12,000 miles, fresh oil change with Mobil 1 MC 10W40, rear end fluid changed at 10,000 miles.

Have not been there, YET. Have a buddy that runs the airport in Ohio County (just west of RR. He keeps wanting me to ride down there. I probably will head down that way sometime this summer.

My dad has a Voyager. He has a 30 inch inseam and has no problems, but I don't know if he did anything to his. Try the Amer. Voyager Assn website. They may be able to provide you more info.

It was a beautiful day. Nashville was FULL of bikes. Charlestown is 20 miles northeast of Louisville on hwy 62. Wife and I met with 14 other bikes in Austin (I65 exit 34) and went to Nashville by way of 256 to 39N, 50W, 135N, 46W. This was our fist time up there since moving to southern IN last summer. Indiana hwy 135 is an awesome ride. We stopped to eat at a Mexican rest. just east of Nashville, but it was a 45 min for our group of 19 people. So we went to McDs When we left, we took 46W to 446S to 50E. I agree that we need a Hoosier meet and eat. I just need enough advance notice to get a Sat or Sun off.
