  1. Did you get a mounting bracket with it? Buy one from Carbon_one? Or not need one?
  2. If you get the chance at the stealer, look at the sticker on the new tires. You will see which distributor they came from. Nearly all are the same that you will get online. Many here have bought online from www.SWMototires.com and been VERY happy. Myself included. My tires had a Tucker Rocky distributor sticker on them. Same that I have seen at dealerships. This SAME thread was discussed on another MC forum I get on. Concensus is, the dealer is feeding you a line of bull. I see you are in Tulsa. If you are talking with M&W Powersports in Broken Arrow, be very wary. They wanted $120 for a Dunlop D404 (for my VStar 650 that I got for $75) plus another $50 install. When I told them I would get my own tire, they said $100 install. This was even after I bought the bike from them. IMO, K&N Yama is much better. Again, Just my opinion. Yep, lived in Glenpool for 12 years.
  3. Thinking I might get 2 Stebel horns. One for each bike. Questions I have: When I buy the horn, does it come with the relay? What about appropriate (gauge) wiring? In other words, after I buy the horn, do I still need to purchase other parts to get it working?
  4. Anyone that might have an original horn off their RSV, I am interested in putting one on my wife's 650 Silverado. The little "beep beep" horn just does not cut it. Email or PM me and let me know what you want for it. Thanks EDIT Thanks for looking, but think I will just get a Stebel horn. (see my other post)
  5. Grooved concrete will increase tire wear more than asphalt. So add that to the equation.
  6. My last tank, I was at 203 miles when the light came on. It was 217 when I filled it with 4.1 gallons. That tank had about 100 miles of 75 mph on the interstate and the rest about 60 to 65 mph. I have checked my speedo with my GPS. Mine oly seems to be off by 5%. At 60 mph indicated, GPS say 57mph. So in the thread I started saying I got 50mpg, that is going by the stock speedo, so in reality, I is probably 47 mpg.
  7. My dad has run nothing but ME880s on his Kaw Voyagers over the last 10 years. He has had no problems. It very well could be because the larger size. Might never know.
  8. I don't work tomorrow, but I rode my bike to work Sun, Mon, and Tues. I also plan to ride to work all this weekend, too.
  9. I just put a set of E3s on my RSV 2 weeks ago. Last week I rode for Louisville to Bowling Green (100 miles). 50 to 70 miles of that was on wet raods adn intermittent rain. I have no problems on the freeway at 70 mph.
  10. I know that diesel engines will improve mpg over a breaking period. My truck saw an increase in mpg from 17 (new) to 20 to 21 after 20,000 miles. I have just turned 14,000 miles on my RSV and the last 3 tanks of fuel I have gotten 48 to 50 mpg. NO, I am not complaining. Just quite happy at the milage. The only other thing could be that I ran some Seafoam thought it within the last 800 miles.
  11. The moron driving down the road burning a quart of oil per tank of gas -- and there are LOTS of them out there -- puts more pollution in the air than my well maintained diesel engine
  12. So, there I was this week with my parents. They are national board members for the American Voyagers Association, a motorcycle club that (although is 85-90% Kaw. Voyagers) allows all makes of bikes. Wife and I went there with them mainly because their national rally this year was only 2 hours from our home. On the last day, they always hold a bike show. All people in attendance are allowed (no charge) to enter their bikes and all attendees are allowed to vote for their favorites. Classes were: sport bike, trike/sidecar, cruiser, stock touring, and custom touring. After looking around and talking with my dad, at the last minute, I decided to enter my RSV. The only Venture entered. There were a few GWs and many Voyagers. So I registered the bike, cleaned a few bugs off the windshield (rest of the bike was already clean) and headed to town to pick up my mother at the motel. We got back as most people had voted or were finishing up their votes. To my great surprise, my 2007, Blue RSV won the stock touring class at a Voyager rally.
  13. Thought Strat was starting a "Yes I am real, but you have never seen me" group.
  14. My last final change, I used Castrol synthetic. I don't know about the gear oil, but I do know that the SuperTech motor oil is made and bottled by Quaker State.
  15. Ain't that the truth!
  16. Leads me to wonder, does Dunlop have 2 or more manufacturing plants? One producing a good tire the other a bad one?
  17. Reading up on tires over the last 2 months and still seeing D404 discussions, I just have to find out. I had 13,380 miles on my original D404s. Measuring the tread, I could have easily gotten upwards of 15,000 miles. I got new tires, mostly because, I was starting to feel a little shimmy in 60mph turns. I attribute that to a little bit of "wave" type wear on the edgees of the tread. I don't jump off the line. I keep about 40psi in the rear shock, keep the tires inflated within 2 psi of sidewall (but not over), and about 60% of the miles were 1 up. So I am just wondering, did I get more than average life out of my D404s? What are the riding habits of those that get less than 10,000 miles out of their tire?
  18. There are some that will say that different tires won't matter. There are those that will say never run mis-matched tires. I was happy with the milage I got out of the D404s on my bike and my wife's VStar. I replaced her rear only (at about 8500 miles) with another D404 because I wanted a matched set and her front tire was in great shape. My bike had 13,380 on the original 404s. the front would have gone longer, but probably not long enough to bereplaced at the same time as the next rear. Just curious, what is the mileage on your Dunlops?
  19. I'll give credit too. I ordered a set of Dunlop Elite 3s for my bike. They were on my doorstep in 2 days. I paid $235 for the set. The local shops wanted $160 to $188 for the rear and $108 to $125 for the front. Mount and balance cost me all of $30. I will definitely buy from SWMoto again.
  20. Thanks to all that gave advice. BIG thanks to Cougar for the step by step procedure with pics in the tech section. One question though that I either missed or was not addressed in here anywhere... To reinsert the driveshaft, should it be done by first taking the shaft off the pumpkin? That is how I did it and it seemed to work. I took special care not to let the spring in there go flying. Everything is back together. Took it for a quick test drive and all seems well. Total time from start to finish (starting with getting the jack out to doing my test ride), with 3 hour break in the middle to get tires mounted, was 7 hours. That also included cleaning the back end while apart and cleaning the wheels. \
  21. For those following my "saga"... Got everything apart. Pulled the driveshaft, greased it and got it back in after about 45 minutes of trying to get the shaft and U-joint to line up. UGH! Now I am off to the shop to have the tires changed.
  22. Got the rear tire off the bike. Quite easy. Before I take it to get the new tire put on, do I need to remove anything? ie rotor, bearings,... thanks
  23. The day has come. Tuesday afternoon (I am working a midnight shift right now) after my morning nap, I will be removing the tires. Good excuse, too, to do a thorough cleaning. Gonna check all the brake pads too.
  24. No high test gas here. IMO you are wasting your $$ for the high octane if you do not have spark knock. I run Mobil 1 MC oil and shoot for 4000 mile changes with Wix or Napa Gold filter. If I miss the change and run to 5000 miles, no big concern with the Mobil1. Cahnged my rear end fluid at 800, 4000, and 10,000 miles. Probably will not change that again until 24,000 or 25,000 miles.
  25. Great pics. I only took one picture. I should have gotten the camera out of the bike at the cafe. Then everyone could know what faces to look for and RUN. When I figure out my free time, I will gladly post for a ride from Corydon to Tel City via SR 62 and SR 66, and possible points beyond. As stated before, and Bummer knows the feeling, my days off are mid-week, therefore this ride would most likely be on a Weds or Thurs. Looks like it would have to be in August. Alex, where is are the best eating spots?
