  1. I think you don't understand what i'm saying, or you chose to misunderstand what i'm saying. Please read again what i said. If you want to tell me/us a MKI Brake is more than any Rider will ever need. Ok, i got your Point. The MKI Brake was outdated two Years after the Bike came on the Market and the Stopping Power the MKI Brakes provides wasn't adequate anymore. Things have changed since .... (at the 1Gen's a Bit early in 1986) How bad i need to improve my Brakes on a MKII ?? Depends on the Cost .... I spent half of the Money of complete Rebuild of the stock MKII Calipers and i saved about ten Hours working Time on rebuilding the Calipers .... You don't believe that ? Ask a Bit around, here are Members that actually made the Upgrade and know the Numbers way better than me. I even know of a Member that actually made Money out of the Upgrade. On a MKI this is not true, it may cost some Money because you need more Parts to make it happen, but the Brakes ARE better. How do i know that and stand behind my Words ?? I've ridden many Bikes, some of them were 1985 to 1992 Vmaxxes which have exactly the same Brakes on the as the MKI have. I tell you, it's just scaring. I've ridden a Friends FJ1100 with 140 hp and the same weak Brakes and they scared me even more. How did your personal Evaluation Procedure go ?
  2. Well Earl i take this Threat very serious and i'm looking forward to your PM !! !! Actually i may sound a bit sceptic, but that sounds more than it actually is. I really appreciate your "Venture" and when they hold up five Years or even more, that'd be fine for me.
  3. There's a Guy selling his '09 Vmax with 300 mls on the Odo due to Loss of his Employment. I took this from another Forum. I don't know the Guy, but this could be a real Steal ...
  4. Now, isn't less fade under heavy Braking with heavy Bikes like the Ventures are, a good Thing in first Place ? But, you referred in your upper Posting to a MKI Brake and that's why i posted my Comment. A MK I Brake, even when well maintained or even with fresh Rotors and Pads will never be as good as a MK II or R1 Brake. That specifically means less stopping Distance and a Lot less heat related Fade of Braking Power. Better Feeling with R1 Calipers, when combined with a fitting 14 mm Master Cylinder is only the Icing on the Cake. When you ask why's that .... Go measure the Diameters of the Rotors and just look at the Area of Friction Zones involved. There are some Rules in the World which can't be bend from the human Race. Deceleration is basically converting Work into Heat. At the Moment, the Rules of this simple System can't be bent by Mankind.
  5. I've seen the upper, white Plastic falling apart and pushed it just back on. I don't think this is a big Deal. The only negative i see in this Method is 1st - performing the Job patient enough without ruining a new Diaphragm 2nd - i've seen Sliders from Maxxes which had Skid Grooves notched deeply into te Material, a Buddy of mine had one Slider stuck because of that. His max has 85 000 mls, so this might be the main Reason for this Encounter. He polished the Slider and the Carb Housing with a Dremel and came out fine 3rd - so far, nobody knows how long these Aftermarket Parts will hold up compared to OEM Parts, there might be some Misinvestment experienced
  6. I probably would have made up an small Rig to catch both Borings in the Sliders bottom and a Piece of Wire indicating the Middle of the Tab. Two Nails with the right Head Diameter and a third for getting the Wire fixed to a Piece of Wood. Then insert the Slider into the Nails and bend the Wire to meet the Tab in lower Positon. But that's just me. I'm really Sorry to say, this just came to my Mind, because i fear the Lifter Boring will not be in the right Place in the Carb and because of that, different Vacuum Pressures would move the Sliders different to the other Carbs. These Venturi driven Things are very sensitive to these Matters. Anyway, i'm sure you got that set right and thanks for the good Write-Up.
  7. Yes. It's Kind of the "bad" Side power wise, but the Clearances will tighten over Time and you just doesn't want to repeat THAT Job every 10 000 mls.
  8. Don, just don't forget to put on your Radiation Sticker every Day ... The Rest will become freshened up soon !!
  9. Good Job Earl !! how did you ensure to place the Tab of the new Diaphragm exactly at the Place the old Tab was before ?
  10. Squdiley, did you try the old Trick with boring a Hole and pounding a Torx Bit into the Mixture Screw ?? I think a TX-20 or TX-25 should be the best Size. The Hole should be only about teh Size of the Center of the Torx and 2/10 " deep. Then drive the Torx-Bit into the Hole. Put the Carb on the Bench and insert a T-Handle to the Bit. Push the Handle down with a Lot of Force and break the Screw loose with one decent Snap of the Wrist. Worked for me about 10 Times or so. If the Bit snaps out of the Boring, it's Time to bring up the Valve Grind Agent on the Tip of the Torx-Bit.
  11. Oxymoron ?? :stickpoke: :whistling:
  12. I think exactly the Opposite is the Case in SilvrT's Case ... :p:p:whistling::whistling:
  13. now that was a good one !!! :crackup::crackup:
  14. I took the Pic from the Star Website, it's an '09 RSV. The Motor alone wouldn't help much. You'll need at least the Swing Arm/final Drive and Shaft also. That Shaft seems around twice in Diameter than the old Shafts.
  15. I'm sorry to say, but you have no Idea what's the Difference between well maintained MKI Brakes and R1 Brakes. Saying it's only as Night and Day, just doesn't cut it.
  16. OK Boss ...
  17. I don't think they will go up in that Price Range. After all, the Bike should be sellable to a broader Bandwith of Customers. Yes, i could see a hefty Price Tag on a Touring Version of the Max(new venture), but on the technical Side, there are not so much changes needed to make a considerable Tourer out of the Max. The rear Frame is bolt-on, so just add another Subframe would give a Lot of Possibilities for a different upper rear End. A different Subframe would give more Room for a bigger Tank and all the electronic Goodies which mostly wouldn't have Room at the Moment.
  18. As the left Side has the same Exhaust, this would melt too. It's only photoshoped, but it could give you an Idea about how the Future could look like. I wouldn't go to Harley Bags either, maybe it was the next Bagger-Pic available. But basically, i like the Look !! Think about Momma on the Backseat having a Nap and you take a serious handful in third Gear to pass the Car on the screeching rear Tire only. Talking about a GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD Ride .... :rotf::rotf:
  19. Yammi says to check Valve Clearance every 26ooo mls. But when the first Service is done, imho, your good to go for at least 30ooo mls between checks. The real Problem is, the Clearance will get tighter over time and wear nor bigger. Therefore the first bad Sound you will hear from your Engine is when the Ex-Valve is burned away. We have had held a Valve Day End of November, there were 4 Maxxes lined up and we got them done in 11 Hours. We had a real Problem at one Bike, because the Tool wouldn't allow us to undo the Shim. In other Words, the Clearance was much to tight and were almost facing pulling out the Cam. The very last Micrometer of Elevation on the Tools saved our Day. Experience says, if they were done two Times and each Service in Time, you won't need to change any Shims, just checking the Clearance.
  20. on a Vmax Website ... A Member there was thinking about Solutions to make the Wife more comfy and happy ... P.S. don't show that to your Gal's, you might need to purchase a new Ride soon ...
  21. YES, and we ever will !! !! !! :happy34:
  22. Good Morning back to you George, here it's 15:45. I've been working since 7.5 Hours and still counting ... No update on the Bike as of yet. It's sitting there under the Cover and i walk by it 5 Days a Week. Gotta get my other Jobs (2 Sets of FJR Rims for the 1Gen Max and 2 Starter Clutch Conversions) done first before getting into the Bike. New, wider Handle Bar is under Way, new Master Cylinders and front Signals sitting here already. Not decided on the Mirrors and the Front light yet.
  23. But George you gotta mention that you're retired and just bored enough to be hold back in the Garage by raining Days in Seattle !!! :whistling:
  24. I think that is or was the Sig of Schlepporello here ...
  25. We had a Report in our Morning TV Show which stated a Judge in US, i think it was in Nevada, sentenced them playing "obnoxious loud Music" Folks to several Hours of hearing Barry Manilow Music.... It helped a Lot !! !! If they won't appear to face their Sentence, they got their Driver's License suspended or even revoked.
