I had an '85 VR before. When I sold it, I knew I would buy another...and I did. I've sat on RSV's, test drove them, read all the posts in here about them, watched a video of one, ....heck, I even dream about an RSV so, there's no doubt in my mind that I will be getting one when finances are in place (either next summer or summer 2009).

OK, you know in those western movies where the cowboy takes a flying leap and lands on his horse..... Tried that once but the horse was my scoot and I approached it from the left side. Yep, I landed on the seat alright but the momentum caused me and the scoot to fall over on the right. Of course, I was a bit inebriated and showing off... my buddies all got a good laugh outta that!

Many of the places I've lived, there aren't too many choices. In some cases, there's one road in and one road out and one road to follow. The destination never changes. Down in this part of the Province (lower mainland of BC), there are several different routes one can take to eventually get to the same place which, in many cases, is inevitable coz it's the only route you can go to get beyond there. For example, if you want to get to the interior towns, you either have to go through Hope, BC or Whistler, BC. There's only one route to Whistler. You can take a number of different routes and back country roads on your way to Hope but eventually, there are only 2 ways into Hope, and 2 ways out. One bypasses it and you can head north (Fraser Canyon) or you can go into Hope and head East. The other is a freeway that bypasses Hope. From there you can head North or East. Hope is a small town that is very busy with summer traffic...people stopping for gas, food, etc... almost all bikers stop there on their way into the interior or vice versa.

I use a round drain pan I got at Canadian Tire years and years ago. It's about 4" deep and has a "V" lip on one side for pouring the old oil out. Disposing of the old oil is a bit of a problem tho because you just can't dump it anywhere.

Since we are on this topic, I just thought of something which relates. Do those of you riding a 2nd gen who have or still own a 1st gen find the 2nd gen heavier than the 1st gen?.... more difficult to lift off the sidestand? .... easier or harder to get on and off the bike?? Got me wondering now what to expect when I move up to a 2nd gen. -

DITTO that. I also steady the bike by pressing my thighs against the bike so I not only have my arms holding it steady, but also my legs. As for balancing at a stop sign, my wife is very good at knowing that she should not be "jerking" around. I complimented her on that yesterday. Told her that of all the people I've had on the back of a bike, she is without question the best. What's amazing to me about this is that she only started riding on a motorcycle with me 2 summers ago...she'd never been on one before. Only once got into a sandy situation where I almost lost it. Again, she was good because she did not try to do the driving by counter reacting but instead, sat still and let me do the man-handling. -
:witch_brew: I'm curious how many of you that are against helmet laws or the wearing of them have or do work in some kind of industrial environment where it is mandatory to wear a hard hat? Do you have the same opinion about wearing those hard hats? The fact is that the wearing of hard hats and the wearing of helmets SAVES LIVES and PREVENTS SERIOUS HEAD INJURIES and in so doing saves all of us from FOOTING THE BILL to look after you when you are all screwed up after a serious head injury. That costs all of us in one way or another. hey, just stirring the pot here but that's a fact.

yes, thom is right... let's not put down those folks who choose not to protect themselves from the dangers of living for it is only those people who will suffer the consequences... or is it? unfortunately, thom has a valid point when put into his perspective.

I don't know any different than riding with a helmet. It's always been the law here and I can't recall a time when I saw anyone riding without one. Those who do have nothing in their head to protect anyways so all I can say to them is... PUT A FRIGGIN HELMET ON!

I'm just a bit concerend about a guy who wears a bra.....

it does? must be something wrong with my fridge!

Came across an '06 RSTD with 800Kms on it yesterday. Dealer was asking $12,500. They also had a new ('07) Midnight Venture with price of $20,488. How do these prices stack up against those south of the 49th?

Spark Plug Question
SilvrT replied to TrainMaster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
How often do we change plugs on a car nowadays? Seems to me it's several thousand miles...like 30k, 50k, 100k? N-E-Wayz, my point being, why would we change the plugs on a M/C more often than in a car? I put the Irridium plugs in mine... I don't plan on changing until they cause a problem...seems to me if they're working fine, then why change them "just cause"... (if it ain't broke, why fix it?) Similarly, I put new plugs in my '85 when I got it and ran those for 4 years (roughly 30k kms and then went to Irridium). When I changed them out, they looked very "normal" and the gap was still correct.- 18 replies

We were all grumbling when Yamaha failed to upgrade and "modernize" the RSV for 2008. Look at what Honda is doing now... an AIR BAG for the Goldwing!!! That's it then...Yamaha is waiting for that technology to "catch on" and then we'll see a new RSV with front, rear & side air bags, anti-rollover, and a 6 cassette surround sound system with a high output grammaphyncal anti-woofenbacher!

Speaking about barking... I used to have a dog named sex. One day he got lost. I went out looking for him and as I walked through the neighborhood, I called out his name. Several time I would call out "here sex... c'mon sex... where'd ya go sex.." It wasn't long before a cop car came along..... Seems some of the neighbors thought I was a bit crazy.

rear diff questions
SilvrT replied to RustyRecycledToy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
dem durned freakin noises can driv a feller crazy. Mine would squeal (high pitched whine) going around a right turn at high speed. Changed wheel bearings front & rear, changed rear pads, changed rear rotor, lubed axle, etc... tire had lotsa tread..... nada! Tire got a nail so put a new one on...same brand/size (Avon Venom). Squeal gone! -
Why do we keep doing anything we love to do? Because those are the things we love to do. It's as simple as that and as long as we're able to keep doing those things, we will.

PST (BC Provincial Sales Tax) is 7% GST (Goods and Services Tax) which is Federal is 6% so it's actually 13% now.

In all my years of riding, I have to say that this past "riding season" has, IMO, been one of the worst insofar as weather is concerned. It's been cooler than usual and wetter than usual. This is probably the only summer where "going to hang out at the lake" hasn't even entered my mind. Friday (day before yesterday) was clear and sunny. Generally that's a work day so I normally wouldn't have been able to enjoy it but I was lucky to have scheduled that day off and got out on my scoot for a while. The first time in 2 weeks. Yesterday and today we've had non-stop rain. From the long-range forecast, and the fact that my insurance runs out on the 18th, I'm pretty certain that Friday was my last riding day until next season. I sure hope it's a better one than this past one has been. If I was retired, I'd for sure be living in a warmer, dryer climate.

I'm pretty much sold on the RSV. I prefer it's looks to that of the Wing and I've never been one to want a "cadillac". Either next summer or the following one, I will be searching for "my" RSV, most likely I'll be bringing it up from somewhere south of the border. It will be exactly what I want and will be the last scoot I will buy.
