  1. heh ... I'm a whimp ... I HATE cold and being cold ... so, if it's below 10 celcius, I don't ride ... well, maybe I will... maybe ...
  2. I wear my ski pants that I've had for ohhh... 20 years. Surprisingly they still fit although they're a bit tight around the belly now! LOL what exactly are "bibs" ? Only thing I relate them to is that thing that drapes across your chest so ya don't spill food, etc all over your shirt.
  3. Chicken??? ..sounds a little "fishy" to me... :rotf: :rotf:
  4. A. The pcv valve uses vacuum created by the engine sucking air through the intake manifold to suck vapors from the crankcase into the cylinders to be burned with the air/fuel mixture. The likelyhood of this system to suck 2 quarts of oil and run it back thru the cylinders is about as remote as me winning the lotto ... probably more remote. Now, if you had ring blow-by or bad valve seals, it would be more believable. I would be looking for those possible causes (barring any chances of it just leaking out). As prev mentioned, oil in the coolant is also a suspect but 2 quarts in 4000 miles.... something has to be visible somewhere coz ya can't overfill the reservoir by that much and not notice it (just my $0.02)
  5. The gas cap reflection was a real annoyance even on my stock shield. I painted the cap with flat black spraypaint. No more reflection.
  6. There is an oil seal on the pumpkin end of the driveshaft (see att'd pic) ... none on the engine side. The splines on the engine side are manually greased.... the ones on the pumpkin end are lubed by the oil in the pumpkin. If you pull the shaft from the pumpkin to make it easier to slide back into the U-joint at the engine end, then you may need to replace that seal beforehand...probably a good idea to replace it anyway if you pull the shaft from the pumpkin. Note the circlip (#36) that holds it in. When I pulled mine on the '87, I was able to slide the whole assembly (pumpkin & driveshaft) back into the tube and into the U-joint with minimal "fussing" to get the splines lined up.
  7. so, not only does the RSV look similar to a HHHHHH....arley ... Yamaha even designed it to drip oil like one... :rotf:
  8. I been reading this thread, trying to figgure out what the word "sn**" is.... uhhhhhhhhh... is it .... SNOW ??
  9. Can't go south of the border .... haven't got the right security clearance. Whenever I've asked anyone, including top managers, in a store such as Walmart about getting something that they don't either have or are out of stock on, the reply is generally "oh...that's all handled out of head office...we have no control over that". Those store people are nuthin but pawns.
  10. Just a off-beat curiosity ... Wondering if anyone who has had the I-basket swap done has discovered that they didn't actually get an I-basket, but something else (like an 'H' or?) even tho the dealer was supposed to put in an I-basket. I started thinking about this because of the variations of "the I-basket worked" versus "the I-basket didn't work" and anything in-between. I will be pulling my basket (and probably my hair) out this winter just to confirm this. oh yea ... can't do the hair...it's already all gone

  13. Rocket has a dual-engine 1st gen...
  14. not exactly correct .... I found that my bike wobbles and weaves all over the place when I'm LAFFIN and GIGGLIN while RIDING ...
  15. US stores and CAN stores are often a lot different. There's a lot of stuff you US guys can buy from places like Sears, Walmart, and the like that our stores up here just don't carry. Further, you have several "big name" stores that we don't. IT REALLY SUCKS! Sears.ca has ONE jack. Sears.com has 28 ... yes, TWENTY-EIGHT
  16. It was a dealer's mechanic who suggested running 2 lbs more than spec due to signs of cupping on front tire. I dunno what the mfg tire spec is for these stockers....I should look when I am home tonight.
  17. see if your pinky moves.... why??? :rotf:
  18. I tried to find one in their on-line catalogue but could not. I do seem to recall tho that what's available in the stores is not always in the catalogue. Seems when I was looking tho, the US Sears showed the M/C jacks on-line.
  19. Now don't laff at this but... mine was pulling to the left (with no hands) also... I posted a thread about it and there were a lot of possible "fixes" but the one that worked.... I said don't laff... adjust the position of you body just a bit to the right on the seat. I kid you not... it worked! As for the wobble, mine didn't do that but I'd double check your tire pressures and put 2 lbs more than what the manual says. I run 38 in the front and 44 in the rear. (manual says 36 & 41)
  20. regarding the smell....nobody suggested that maybe it's time to change your shorts ... :rotf: sorry, couldn't resist!
  21. I think that tube will drip oil if you overfill the bike. Generally speaking you should not fill it much higher than the middle of the sight glass .... more than that won't hurt it any (unless you put wayyyyyyyyyy too much in) but you will get that dripping. Happened on mine too.
  22. Good bit of info .... with this in mind I guess it would be a good idea to query the shop if they have techs experienced on the RSV before giving them any business. Just because it says "Yamaha" on their door doesn't necessarilly mean they can work on ALL Yamaha product lines. When I had my '85 I found the best Yamaha Venture mechanic working at a Suzuki dealership. Of course, warranty did not come into play with it.
  23. I run 35psi in the rear shock and zero in the front. I tried 5psi in the front but did not really see where there was any difference. Maybe I just didn't go over the right kind of roads. Dunno why you can't get air into the front tho...???
  24. I know I have some cupping on the front but I'll have to check the rear (tire) tonight for that. The noise in the turn is not an issue for me; however, I will be replacing both tires this winter. What's strange (to me at least) is that the front has worn a lot more than the rear. Cupping is, among other things, related to improper air pressure. I had been running the rear at 42psi but bumped that to 44 a couple month's ago. The tire howl has been happening since back in the spring when I only had 3 or 4 thousand kilometers on them. It's been getting progressively worse as the km's have been racking up but, as I say, it's not that big of a deal to me. I had the same issue with my '87 with the Avon and then when I got a nail in it, I replaced it (with another Avon) and the tire howl went away. The one with the nail still had a lot of tread left at the time.
  25. yeppers! If anyone knows what the tread depth is when these tires are new, I will do a comparison reading when I get home tonight.
