  1. syscrusher, I've been following your threads as I'm currently changing out 4 seals on my 2 87's when I get the replacement OEM parts. In the interm I came across an article where someone suggested taking a nylon stocking and fanning it around the inner tube to snag any potential burrs that might be hard to detect by eye. "the washer under the seal did not want to bottom in the top recess of the fork slider, making me think maybe it was in wrong.".... looking at my fork assembly, that washer should bottom out flush into the recess of the fork slider snug, but without binding. hope this helps.

    Route 66

Did the route past June/July and wouldn't recommend this trip mid summer because of extreme temps. Didn't have flexibility with timeframe, but in hindsight would have picked May/June. We kept a short journal of route 66 with a few pics. http://maxschwieb.wordpress.com/
  3. I used this site past few months on longer trips. The map animation forecast saved our bacon more than a few times along the routes. I used it more as a day to day 'what to wear' forecast during unsettled weather. http://www.farmzone.com/satellite_radar/so051
  4. agree..
  5. tried ATF with same result. 100% antifreeze with red food dye (for vis) works somewhat better, but still traps air bubbles.
  6. nice ride m'man, congrats!
  7. hey, we'll be debt free by summer 2016 !
  8. full coverage for the 87, same rate 2013, no record, 1,069. Every year I try to negotiate a rate reduction with the ins rep and get the same response , rates are set based on too many fatal claims in the province.... that's 'their' story. On the upside, apparently this same policy covers and extends thru winter should one decide to trailer ones bike to southern states for 6 months eh... pay the piper.
  9. never had a problem finding on line parts for the 87 in the past two years other than a rear master cylinder. The cost of replacing some OEM parts has been prohibitive. Recently picked up a decent 89 parts VR which has been a huge pay off. (rear master cylinder included ) The idea was to restore it back to original condition as possible. In hindsight, I would have picked up a parts VR from the getgo to offset costs. It's a great bike and wouldn't consider any other at this time.
  10. Agree with other comments above on the pegs. If you really want a used set of 1" pegs, shoot me a PM and I'll send you a set N/C, just shipping.
  11. Bob, quick check : tools, internet options, general. I believe the general page should have your homepage in dialogue box.
  12. Happen to catch that show sailor, blew away a lot of myths. I would use regular other than to avoid ethanol with premium. Even at that, I have to wonder what premium brands are truly tested ethanol free.

    windows 8

Apparently Microsoft has removed ability to play DVD's unless you run W8 Pro or have added the Media Package, both of which cost extra. You could try adding media player 'VLC' which is now fully compatible with W8 .. and it's free. Used it for years fault free on previous window systems.
  14. goatturtle, things are on hold till I determine what will effectively be replaced on the 87 and what will end up in the box. Check your PM.
  15. new 89 ride delivered yesterday! errr parts bin. The deer made out not so good. Actually considered another winter restoral project ... the boss chimed in immediately 'not happening'. Fairing has extensive L/S damage,at very least need replacement front fender, lower right fairing, right saddle bag, rad front shroud, crash bars and probably other components. Combined with fresh paint the cost would be prohibitive and thats providing the frame & wheels are intact. There's an extensive parts box with a couple of electronic components I don't recognize. I'll post photos later.
  16. History channel 'Pawn Stars' (called Gold and Silver Pawn Shop) on Las Vegas blvd south.
  17. I've been told that 'premium only' - Shell, PetroCan & Ultramar are the only three without ethanol in Ontario.
  18. wish you a speedy recovery and all the best. ..Max
  19. in grade school I remember a guy had a vial of the stuff and rolled it around the palm of his hand blending it with his (gold?) ring. After a couple of hours the merc would actually coat it like anodization and result in a beautifull shiny mirror finished ring.... thing was after a few days the ring oxidized and looked like something out of a cracker jack box. As I remember it, the oxidized aluminum finished wouldn't rub off. back in the day who knew, definately explains a few things...
  20. For myself the biggest difference was 2 up cornering often had a slight spongy wobbly thing happening at the front end. Just didn't feel right. Not an issue since replacement. One of the best investments to date.
  21. Was going to order a Condorbrace but didn't have aluminum finish in stock at the time. Ordered Superbrace from their site, kinda pricey, but one of the best investments to date for the 87.
  22. I have an opportunity to pick up a complete, but damaged 89VR for my 87VR. I started comparing part numbers off OEM parts sites. Thought I'd throw out if any of the experts know how compatible the parts are between the two, would save me great deal of time. Thanks .. Max
