  1. I would ask two questions up front before I took a job. #1- Have you ever worked on your bike? #2- How much can you bench press? I just replaced my front tire and the bolts holding the calipers were so tight that three only have part of the threads left and one is there(maybe) forever. I had to fish the rotor into the pads on one side and thats harder than it sounds. The crazy part about it is they only have to hold themselves in. Zero pressure on the bolts. I'm open for suggestions on how to get it out without breaking off the ear. It is soaking in penetrating oil but I don't give it much hope. Thanks Richard
  2. I came thru there yesterday evening on the way home. We just stopped at the fair grounds. Trikes and trike stuff are big this year looks like. Harley displays are impressive as usual. Several trucks with nice looking blondes and boobs .Makes you want to ride a harley and park on the FFFRONT rowww. Yami did have one truck of demos with some old farts huddled under the awning in the shade. You don't have to worry about high pressure salesmen while entertaining yourself looking at the used(Demo) bikes. They never make eye contact. I bet the rest of their display trucks probably hadn't arrived yet. You know, the ones carrying the new latest bikes and acces... Richard p.s.- Oh yea , Yami did have one chick, 60 ish, grey, friendly, at least to the person on the other end of the cell phone stuck in her ear.
  3. I lowered mine about three months ago. I picked my spots to park until I had enough. I also had to lean past center to put it down or put it up. What a pain in the a--. Last week I bought a kick stand from Pinwall on EBay. I cut mine off just above the shoe or whatever it's called.(at the very bottom plate) That way there isn't excess pressure and no chance of it breaking away from home. I welded the shoe back on so I wouldn't have to worry about it sinking in soft ground. I lowered my bile 11/2", I cut the same amount out of the KS. It is worth it, should have done it three months ago. Richard. ps-- To get the bolt out that holds the kick stand, you have to drop the floorboard. The shifting rod is in the way.
  4. I want 1st phase only. Do I drill half inch holes around front baffle? thanks Richard
  5. Usually when a situation repeats it's self, there is a reason. Spark plugs aren't that complicated. Normally they work or don't. I don't think wearing them out tri monthly would be normal. I also don't think you would be unlucky enough to get a bad batch every time, even if there is an occasionlly bad plug sold. I think I would look elsewhere. Bad or old wires or caps could shorten the plugs life span. Maybe even weak voltage. Just my opinion. I hate these kinds of problems, I had rather my bike just quit so I can fix it and get back to enjoying the ride. Richard
  6. Anyone know what is a decent price for a Dunlop E3 front tire on a 99 RSV? I shucked my rear Metezler with 11k miles on my way to Sturdis. Now I don't trust my front Metezler and want to match the rear. Also where I live, no one handles a tire so a source would be good. Thanks Richard
  7. Hey, I might just give it a shot next time. Just wondering, Is the RSTD basiclly the same bike as a RSV without the fairing, bags and trunk?
  8. Thanks Freebird, Since I want to ride tomorrow and already have it tore down, I'll just use some good old emery and do it again another day. A guy just can't trust anyone anymore. Thanks Richard
  9. When I was at the parts house today, I asked for plugs same as the last set. He looked it up useing my phone # on the computer and said,"No problem". When I get home and get my Venture torn down, he has given me plugs with a 7 instead of an 8. (DPR7EA 9)They look the same ,so whats the diff, hotter?,colder? or what. Would it hurt to use them or should I take them back. 50 miles one way. Thanks Richard

    Sturgis 2011

Hey, We are making a first run this year. Don't have a clue what's up. We will leave the 3rd and run up to Illionis for a couple of days ,then over to Sturgis on the 8th. We are throwing a tent and sleeping bags in a trailer for Sturgis. That's the extent of our planning, are we nuts? Richard
  11. I'm heading out on it's maiden trip on Wednesday(3000 miles). A big portion of it is interstate. I think I'll start out with 25 lbs. I can adjust down if I need to. Thanks for the replys Richard
  12. My trailer weighs 156 lbs. It has 12 inch tires. It calls for 60 lbs of tire pressure Max. Since it will never weigh over 250 or 275 lbs loaded, should I run 60 lbs or can I run less air pressure? I don't want to run anymore than I need to be safe. Thanks Richard
  13. Thanks Steamer, Too bad they quit makeing them. I think that kit adds too but doesn't cover up the bike like some kits do. It looks as good from the rear as it does from the side. Richard
  14. So Steamer, now that you've had some time to ride the new trike. How do you like it? I have a 99 also and I'll be 80 in 12 more years and I'm starting to have thoughts about adding an extra wheel. Any info you could give me would be greatly appreciated, also maybe a pic from the back. I'm already impressed with the side view. I'm not ready to give up my bike but,I think I could if it looked like your trike. Thanks Richard
  15. Thanks for the replys. I just ordered a set. They have gone up like everything else. $9.80 a set. Richard
  16. What's some opinions on Grip Puppies and where is the best place to get them. Thanks Richard
  17. I bought 1/4" rachet and slapped a 10MM socket on it. I carry it in the small tray in top of the saddlebag. That way I have it with me all the time. Never know when the seat needs to come off.
  18. I've looked at some websites. They are pretty careful about not showing too much. Some of the kits on CL look home made to me. According to Voyager, I need Type A or Type B and the special hardware for my intruder. I wonder what the diff.is between A&B. Could it be the distance between the fenders? Richard
  19. Do you think they split over the trike? I'm getting too old to break in another wife. Richard
  20. The wife is bugging me to ride on her own . I have a Suzuki 1400 intruder collecting dust in the garage. The wifes not big or strong enough to ride it, but could ride it if it was triked w/ a 4 wheel kit. Since we would still 2 up on long trips, I don't want to pay the bucks and am sure I could build one if I can come across some information. Has anyone built one or can direct me to pictures or info. Anything would be helpful. Thanks Richard
  21. My uncle got the first TV in our family. The case was huge, but the screen was about the size of a 19" maybe. You could just barely make out the picture through the snow. He would go outside about every 30 minutes and adjust the antena.Everyone set and watched and raved about how clear it was. Our next door neighbor bought one of the first color TV's. He had a TV store, and the only program in color was Bonanza on Sunday night. I went over and watched it every Sunday. Everthing was green, same color as the trees. What A HOOT,Don't get me started.
  22. Our phone number was three shorts and a long. We didnt have a washer. We went to town to the laundrymat. There were eight washers. When Mom got the tub loaded, the old owner would kick start the washer, the damned washers smoked so bad every one went and stood outside until they finished washing. Couldn't see anything inside and it burned your eyes. He had a small can of gas he poured in and it would use it up and die. The carbs would leak the gas on through on the floor if he filled the tank. Then she would take the laundry home and hang it out on the line.
  23. The small vacumn lines used to sync carbs. I had two plugged and two with hoses. I synced the carbs and can't remember which was which. Does it matter? Thanks Richard

    HF Axle ?

Sorry, I think I read the post wrong. I went the other way, but I think it would work either way. Richard

    HF Axle ?

I turned the axle over and took a grinder and knocked the corners off the hex nut. That way, I didn't have to drill the hole larger. The reason was to lower the height of the trailer the thickness of the axle. If I remember correctly, that was about 2 1/2 inches. It also made it easier to go back if I wanted to. Richard
