  1. You have a stuck needle/float. I'm going to try to paste a link to a thread that I started yesterday having to do with this. If the link doesn't work, I'll come back and answer you better. Steve BTW, the credit goes to Cougar for his excellent tech article! http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=20738
  2. I'm jelous Redneck, I thought that I had bought a 2000 KLR a couple days ago, but I was the second guy that had contacted him. Lost out, I'm bummed, but should be getting a great bike from 86r soon, Steve
  3. Having an 05 RSTD, I'd want to know why you want one. Steve
  4. Hey Pete, It was very different, but then again, it was sort of like riding on blacktop, but when you first get on the salt flats, it is very washboard like., then it gets very flat, and you just want to open it up. (so of course you do) They do have a speed limit, which of course I went way over (had to) All in all, a very cool deal. But in getting to your thread, me and my brother camped. You've got to go there, Steve
  5. Legs that go clean up to her neck, but then again I'm predjuiced------and my memory is shot:rotf: Steve
  6. Hey Squid, You're going to love bopping around the the 86! That one of mine loved being at 75/ 80. It loved being there all day long. It HATED 55!!!!!!! Steve

  9. Hey Orrin, That's a beauty! Bring it by. BTW, Orrin is going to help me out by bringing his carb tune over to do my 05 RSTD and my 86 VR Thanks Orrin, PICK UP YOUR RSTD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Steve
  10. Hard to know exactly where to put this, but after taking my carbs off for the second time, I think that I could do it at the side of the road, which brings me to my point. I'm planning on comming out to Don's maintanence days for the comorodorie, (sp) if nothing else, but I was wondering what I could do to add to the maintanence part of this? Well, now I know: If anyone is having (or had) problems with their floats sticking and running out the overflow, I've got this one figured out. You can use seafoam or tap on the float bowls, but this does not solve the problem, it's a very temprorary fix at best. This is my theory: the ethenol creates moisture, which in turn creates a buld up of tiny, and I mean tiny white crystals on the four points of the needle which contact the ID of the seat and DO NOT slide up and down in the seat lilke they should. I was going to post some pics that I took using my macro but they were all blurry. I took some 1500 grit wet paper and removed the grit on all four needles, (my front left was my cluprit) using magnification, and I'd love to help any of you out with this. Or, I'll take my carbs off and show you what to do. What do you thilnk? BTW, this is on a 05 RSTD. Steve
  11. Some years back, while deer hunting, I'd shot a nice buck and he kept running, so shot from the hip. He was too close to aim. Dropped him like a rock.-------Good memory. Steve
  12. I have mine in my tool chest. GREAT TOOL! Steve
  13. Well, I'll tell you what Pete, My last wife was very good at a camping list. It was very inclusive. Nothing left behind. And then when I was in my forties, you know, old---I started thilnking that the ground was way too hard. Now, I'm in my sixties and all I need is my self inflating air mattress, sleeping bag, tent, some sort of light and a place to crash. Last summer on a trip out west, at the end of the day, about the time I figured that it woudl be good to stop, I would look for a camp grounds. I'd pull into the first one I saw at that point. Always worked out. Really didn't matter what it was as long I could put up my tent. BTW, did stay at KOA's, For sure not my first choice. Just do it. Steve
  14. As you can tell, I haven't read the manual-- Plug change at 8,000mi?-----------That's rediculous. Can't imagine doing that. Steve
  15. Way to go Brad, Enjoy the new ride. Steve
  16. Congrats!!!!!!---Major accomplishment, enjoy it. Steve
  17. Boy, you guys in Georgia got it all figrued out. Aren't you supposed to be out riding this weekend? OK, I see it's in the morning------Have a great ride!! Steve
  18. Right on, That things not a ferris wheel. (sorry Ron) Steve
  19. Hey stratcat, How cool is that for your daughter? Lucky her. BTW, I've listened to some of your blues-----very nice. Steve
  20. Congrats Bob, I just put one on my 05 RSTD a few weeks ago. Sure does dress it up. Steve
  21. Hey Condor, I think that is the best suggestion yet. Think of what they could learn. And, comming from venture riders. How could it get any better than that? Steve
  22. Hey Jeff, thought about you going to get your bike last weekend. Can't wait to see the pics. If you want to try some highway miles with it, come on down. I'm thinking that maybe around a 250 / 400 might be a better size for what I want, kinda like Seforemans XT225. Something like that might just be the ticket. That's a beauty! Steve
  23. If I need Yamaha parts, I order from my local Yamaha shop. Nice to keep it close to home. And, they treat me right. Steve
  24. Well, everything that everyone has mentioned is great, but the thing that has me AMAZED, is that they called you for your opinion! We all dream about that happening, right? Don't these yamaha engineers get paid to design motorcycles for us to ride? I mean, it's great to be asked for opinons, but what the hey, it's their job to get it right. Good luck, Steve
  25. Can't really think of a place for this, but I've got a 86VR, a 05 RSTD and a 80 xs650 bobber, (work in progress) So, I'm thinking that I really don't need two BIG bikes, so I might just as well get a 650 dual purpose bike. It seems like a nice combination to me: 05 RSTD (go anywhere bike) xs 650 Bobber (fun little hot rod) and a dual purpose bike, (maybe go to work, the woods, just blast around) Of course this means the 86 VR has got to go. One last thing, money is an object. What do you all think? Steve
