  1. Now I am putting 2 +2 together. the people I ride with always ask me if I want to be TailGunner, like it is an honor or something. More like the Sacrificial lamb!
  2. Try this guy he has a nice assortment of items for the older model tour bikes. www.touringcycleaccessories.com great guy, and has some brand new pieces. for the first generation Venture Royale
  3. You go by book value and 40% on accessories. Go to ebay and jaxed.com to get a good idea of what they are asking for them around the country. 08 should book around 10500. you get nothing really for accessories better off to remove and sell separate.
  4. Thanks Now another question which is the right size? sorry to be so need, just not at home by the bike right now to verify OD.
  5. Need some help guys, I am looking for the flag poles that mount to the Saddlebag wrap around rails for hte RSTD and Venture. THANKS!
  6. How much for the Girl? LOL Nice looking trailer that is made out of S.C. nice folks I am sure you will be happy with it.
  7. Let me say I have never ridden the VR, I have ridden several voyagers, the air suspension is good but The progressive suspension gave me more confidence and I felt my bike handled much better in the curves and the corners than when it had the Standard air suspension. I will say this and I am sure I will be scolded, but The Kawasaki Voyager XII is the best bang for your buck in tourbiking. Parts are readily available both new and used the only component I have ever had go out on a voyager was an alternator and it took 15 minutes to change, the center stand is very easy to use, oil changes take 15 minutes and can be done with the bike on the center stand, Final drive same way. It is the only tourbike to my knowledge that has a passenger seat the moves front to back like a seat in a car for rider adjustment and has a trunk that moves forwad and back to give the passenger more room. I have a buddy that has a 2003 with 26,000 that includes a piggybacker trailer for $7000.. Very nice bike well maintained.
  8. Debron, Realistic on a Voyager is 45-47, there are many that boast they get so much better gas mileage that others. remember the speedo cable drives the odometer as well so if you are off 10% on your miles per hour it also affects the odometer thus affecting your mpg calculation. I can tell you that the VR does curve or Corner better, as for keeping up that is all about the rider. I put progressive suspension front and back on my Voyager and you talk about a different bike as far as corners, curves and turns.
  9. I am sure it applies to either The Venture Royale or the Voyager XII. But there are a lot of resources out there and the World Wide Web has made it easy to find the things you need. Craigslist, Ebay, Venture riders forum and just a few of those resources. As for the Kawasaki Voyager I personally can get you any part you need, Chrome, alternators, CB, engines, ignitors, any body part you may need( may not color match but for what I charge you can have it paint matched and still be ahead of OEM you name it. Right now I have a nice selection of accessories. If you do go Voyager avoid the 86 model year and if you find an 87 remove the false tank and look for the ignitor. You want the number 1248. The 86 did not have cruise or passenger speakers. Kawasaki Still has Voyager Parts available new but no accessories.
  10. We are pulling for her to have a full recovery.
  11. Hey Guys Awesome post, great feedback from both sides of the coin. If you like and use them and they make you feel safer when riding more power to you. I guess we can agree to disagree and appreciate a good discussion. I for the sake of understanding the other side I have rigged up a modulating head light on my Bike. I stole one of my wifes door wreath hangers which I have put over the windshield and have hung a mason jar full of firefly's on it. I have to figure out how to keep the flys alive! thanks for all the information and opinions guys!
  12. What we are talking about is safety features that are a benefit that are not creating and additional hazardous situation. Bottom Line Bummer the modulator creates confusion which creates opportunity for both the positive and the negative. As for the studies and statistics google it and read it like I did, it is very enlightening. The law saying you can run it doesn't make it smart to do.
  13. I can respect that but I have to say that bottom line Based on what I have read on this forum, other forums, Statistics, and internet searching. Some day Brother what you think is protecting you is going to bite you. Either an angry motorist or a person panicking to get out of the way of an emergency vehicle. So here is what we have so far on the the side of Modulators: I like em, I use em. I don't need to justify it to anyone I feel safer using one, as I have had it save my butt several times. I just choose to run one, and it IS my choice, as it is legal for me to do so. Now it is the "I have had it save my butt several times" that I want to hear about. Share some of your experiences with me/us. How do you know that it was the modulating headlight and not you quick reaction time or riding skills that saved your butt?
  14. You are correct but when you are looking in your rear view the first thing you see is the headlights.
  15. Monty no one is on your back ,up until you chimed in has been a good educated conversation. Now if you have something value added lets hear it otherwise leave these types of conversations to those that can have them objectively. So far the defense for using a modulating headlight has been " Hey bud I use em nuf said" I think I have for the most part shown you through hard data, that the reasons you say you are using them is not ligit. The motorcycle safety Foundation even says they are the least effective in making you conspicuous while riding. SO MONTY CONVINCE ME WHAT IS THE VALUE OF A MODULATING HEAD LIGHT THAT MAKES IT WORTH THE HAZARD IT PRESENTS TO OTHERS AS WELL AS YOURSELF? Now if you want to talk about the value of turn signal conversion kits, loud horns, reflective clothing, and helmets there is tons of documentation out there ot prove how effective these measures are/
  16. Now I am going to play devils advocate do you think a driver rear ending you saw the headlight modulating? Do you think the guy that t-bones someone sees you modulating headlight? Here is a little study for you that indicate that the Modulating headlight comes in dead last as an effective tool for conspicuancy: Table 1. Mean LTAP distances (in feet), visibility ranking for each conspicuity treatment. DRL Treatment LTAP distance (feet) Ranking Reference Car 311.688* 1st Driving Lights with Single Lower Beam 276.881 2nd Lower Beam 275.275 7th Reduced Intensity Upper Beam 274.613 3rd Fork Lights with Single Lower Beam 267.181 8th Dual Lower Beams 267.180 4th Enhanced Parking Lamps with Single Lower Beam 266.449 5th Modulating Lower Beam 259.518* 6th Two conclusions can be made from viewing the results in Table 1. First, participants were conservative when estimating the last safe gap. This can be attributed in part to the alertness of participants (i.e., they knew to expect a vehicle approaching), and to the measurement itself (i.e., the measurement indicated when the participant would initiate the turn, not when they would enter the traffic flow). Because the intention was to find relative differences in treatments, this result is not considered to impact the study conclusions. Second, because the distances were not significantly different from one another, a strong case cannot be made statistically for one treatment over another. However, two treatments – the Driving Lights with Single Lower Beam and Reduced Intensity Upper Beam – showed a trend of higher visibility, as demonstrated by having slightly longer distances, and higher subjective rankings.
  17. Everyone this has been a great discussion, There is no denying that the modulator may have some positive applications when used in an appropriate manner, However I believe there are many things that can be used that are more effective for safety. Let me pose this to everyone: Have you ever heard anyone say my modulating headlight saved my life? NO Have you ever heard anyone say my helmet saved my life? YES Have you ever heard someone say my aftermarket horn saved my life? YES Have you ever heard someone say my riding gear saved my life? YES Have you ever heard anyone say I am glad I took the Riders Course, It may have saved my life? Yes! Now does anyone have any statistic to prove that a modulating headlight has a distinct safety advantage for a motorcyclist safety? I have some on a helmet In 2009 Illinois had 108 fatitilies on Motorcycles. I believe it was 84 of those fatalities we not wearing helmets! Can we are debate that a helmet may have made the difference well I guess we will never know! I strongly believe in the right to choose, but when your choice can create a hazardous situation for other which could lead to a bad day for you. I have issue with that and we are just going to have to beg to differ.
  18. I am looking forward to someone that has made this modification. As my horns sounds like an old chevy. It appears to be stock but I have done the attention test and when a gentleman on the side of the road running a riding lawn tractor and has ear muffs on Stops and Waves I feel pretty good in the horn department.
  19. It is this simple do not tell me that you have a modulating headlight in the name of Safety when you are not wearing safe apparel in the event of an accident! Now that I have explained it, doesn't it have some hypocracy to it?
  20. Any truck drivers out there? this is exactly what you do when you are telling an 18 wheeler is it okay to pull over into the lane you flash your Brights at them so they know it is clear to come over. Now that would be an example of a bad day!
  21. I have been on the fence about modulating headlights for some time now. Obviously from a motorcycle safety perspective this seems like a good option. But after coming across a couple GL1800 trikes today that have them, I am leaning to support the side that would see them be made illegal. It was somewhat confusing as they were headed towards as to whether they were an emergency vehicle or not till they we close enough to identify as trikes. I also noticed that people in cars were pulling over until they realized that it was motorcycles and not emergency vehicles. I have heard several talk about how cute it is to have cars pull over, but this could turn out to be very hazardous to everyone. So I guess what you will here me say is I am no longer on the fence. Put Sylvannia Silverstars on, use passing lamps, bright vest, ride with Caution, and number of different things. As for me if I were asked to vote the fate of the modulating headlight I would have to say NO! Disclaimer: This is an opinion and an opinion only, no animals were hurt while this opinion was formed, If you have an educated response I would love to hear it. P.S. the folks riding with the modulating headlights were wearing shorts and the passenger was wearing sandels.
  22. Not enough time, I keep looking for an event to junp in on and meet folks, but the weekend of this event is Youth Deer Season in Illinois and my son has been waiting for several years for this his first opportunity. So it is with regret that I will not make this one. Too bad is was not a week earlier or later.
  23. They had the demo truck at Star Days and I found it odd they still had an 1100 in the line-up for demo rides. why would you keep a bike in the line-up you were no longer making. There was no RSTD there. I understand that the manufacturer has to destroy the bikes once they have been used as a demo rider some kind of Liability. Well it is alway a very disheartening time when you love a brand and are in hopes of change. I was a kawasaki Voyager rider(XII not the new one) and man I loved that bike, I will still argue that it is the best bang for your buck with tour riding. For many the new Voyager was a slap in the face that had waited 7 years for Kawasaki to come out with a competitor to the goldwing and they came out with a harley look alike. So sometimes you are better off with what you already have. It is time to retool and remake but it is all about supply and demand, I can say I know several that have bought another Venture even though it is exaclty what they have already. One thing about that you just swap your accessories over. I also know of many that have went to, goldwing, ultra-classic and the vulcan voyager. No matter what happens there will be many dissappointed!
  24. I can't drive 55 !
