oily spray from speedo connection??
alvald83 replied to tz89's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My speedo cable does the same thing. It's almost as though it is missing an o-ring or something. I would wipe mine clean, go for a short ride to see where it was coming from just to find out it was coming from the speedo cable. Mine started just after I lubed the cable. It has slowed down to almost gone until I lube it again.- 9 replies

I'm on the home stretch of my cross country ride. My '83 has run flawlessly. One major project for me to prepare for future rides is to either have my seat redone or look at aftermarket seats. I know the Corbins are nice but Its hard for me to think about sinking $700 into a seat. My question is, has anyone had they're seat recusioned and covered? How much did it cost you? My chunk of foam that I picked up in Lousiana is the only thing saving my bottom. Btw, I am still impressed with my bikes performance. New paint coming up soon. Maybe a dark brandy wine. Al

750 mile weekend tuneup ride.
alvald83 replied to alvald83's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Well, I made it through Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma and finally Louisiana. I especially liked Utah and Colorado. I almost hit a beaver of all things, as it was crossing the road. My return trip may be shortened due to my daughters car not being transported yet out of Baton Rouge. I hoping her car is picked up Monday, so that I can be on my way home. I will have to remove Tenessee from my itinerary and maybe more if it gets later than that. I did have a chance to put new tires on while I am here in LA. I still want to check out the Santa Fe sites. Btw. Where can I get the little "states traveled map" that some members have on they're profiles? -
Does anyone know a good shop that can work on my bike. I need a tire changed and an oil change before returning to California. I have an 83 Venture. thanks Al

Before my long trip i have accumulated some spare parts to take with me. I am taking TCI, rectifier/regulator and ignition coil (i am taking just 1 of the 4 spares that i have). Is there a way to test the regulator and ignition coil without putting it on the bike? I have already cheched the TCI on the bike. (BTW I am not bike electrical literate.)

Carb Synch Question
alvald83 replied to alvald83's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Another change made before synching was that I also changed to a reusable foam/oil air filter. I got it by mistake, but still used it because I was leaving on a short trip so I oiled it up and installed. Since these allow more air flow is there an adjustment that needs to be done? Because I've never used this type of filter before, I ordered a paper replacement before I leave on my trip. Just curious if changes need to be made when using these types of filters. ( I may re-install it after my trip) -
When i synched my carbs, i can get it almost perfect then when i hit the throttle its moves further apart then takes about 30 seconds to settle back into my final adjusted spot. What is causing this? I did notice on my way home(i was doing this at a friends house) that i hadnt completely open the choke, it was just a few mm's from being completly open. Could this effect the tuning in that way or is this unrelated? I will try to re-synch before i leave on my trip. I did notice a little pop pop pop on decelleration that i didnt have before but that could be related to last of the SeaFoam that is still in my tank. BTW, i also changed the plugs at the same time.

I put a Stebel on my first Gen. It comes with a relay and very good instructions. The online prices vary, so look around i believe i paid 40+ for mine. And , believe me when i say, Cars now know when they cut me off. If you look at my pics, you can see that i mounted it where the rt side horn was (i bought a small 4" flat universal bracket and used the existing bracket bolt).

Hello, Just curious how riders handle (or would handle ) a flat tire. I dont like plugging my car tires, but in the event of a flat tire on my bike, i was planning on plugging it. How would you handle a flat? Al

It goes as follows: Leaving San Jose, with overnight stops in Ely,NV- Montrose,CO - Dodge City, KS - Clarksville,AK - Baton Rouge, LA Return - Baton Rouge - Memphis - Nashville - Fort Smith, AK, Amarillo,Tx - Santa Fe,NM - Kayenta,UT - Las Vegas - Taft(to see my son) - San Jose. This is My Plan, subject to change. I will leave May 11 and return home on May 29th. My plan is to camp with an occasional hotel room mixed in. I want the outdoor experience. If any members have a spot i could camp out along the way that would be great to share some conversation(just PM me). Any ideas of any must see places along the way that would also be appreciated. Counting the days!

750 mile weekend tuneup ride.
alvald83 replied to alvald83's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Dave, I should be at the Arches sometime around the 22nd of May. That is towards the end of my trip. How much time would you suggest to take to see the Arches and Zion. Since i wont be doing any heavy hiking, i will mostly be taking in the sights and taking pictures. -
We hear how guys are using Sea Foam when a bike has been sitting a long time and when their bikes are not running well. But i was just wondering if guys are using it on a routine basis, just to keep things running well. Can it be over used. I was thinking about running a tank full of Sea Foam treated fuel, before i leave on my long trip. How are you guys using it?

750 mile weekend tuneup ride.
alvald83 replied to alvald83's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks for the great info Guys, After going to the local bike shops it seems that the only guys that would trust these classic bikes are the guys on this site. They say i am brave for attempting such a long trip on a bike this old. I truly trust my bike and am looking forward to the sights and the stress free life for 2 1/2 weeks. Does anyone know of any native american sights that might be along my ride? -
I did a 750 mile ride this weekend to see what issues might come up in preparation for my 2300 trip to Baton Rouge. Once again, i am reminded how comfortable these bikes are. The ride was Flawless although my mileage isnt where i expect it to be. With 1 remaining bar on the fuel gauge i have only gone about 110 miles. But other than everything is great with the bike. After an oil change and air filter change i will be ready for my 2300 trip to Baton Rouge. I havnt finalized my route but on my return ride, i am considering riding up to Memphis before coming home. One of my stops is going to be Arches monument in Utah. Any ideas on must see sights along that route (Memphis to Utah)?

Is it normal to hear ,what sounds like a chain sound, when i compress the clutch lever at a stop. Maybe that sound is there everytime i pull the lever but i only notice it when i am stopped. Is there an adjustment for the cam chain or whatever chain is inside the engine. Just want to make sure that it wont be an issue before my cross country trip. Al

Clutch master rebuild kit
alvald83 replied to alvald83's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Ok, Now for the bleeding sequence. Is there anthing i have to do besides just just opening the bleeder screw down under the rubber cover? I hear its easier than bleeding the brakes. http://venturers.org/Forum/download/file.php?avatar=11210_1329974423.jpg alvald Posts: 231 Joined: Mon Mar 01, 2010 10:32 pm Member Number: 3088 City: San Jose State or Province: CA Country: USA PTBAV since: 2010 Private message E-mail alvald -
I have a replacement clutch master cylinder in hand and have a rebuild kit on order from the dealer. I just have a few questions. 1. How do i separate the electrical wire (thats a strange lokking connector)? 2. wheni look into the bowl, i see 2 holes on the bottom. One seems to be plugged (not sure if there is a valve there or not). Is that normal? 3. How difficult is it to rebuild it? Should i leave it to the shop? (This years bike repair budget is long gone) 4 . What is in the $39 dealer rebuild kit? http://venturers.org/Forum/download/file.php?avatar=11210_1329974423.jpg alvald Posts: 226 Joined: Mon Mar 01, 2010 10:32 pm Member Number: 3088 City: San Jose State or Province: CA Country: USA PTBAV since: 2010 Private message E-mail alvald

Does anyone have a spare Clutch MC you'd be interested in selling?
