  1. Yes the economy here in Michigan is still very bad. I am a moldmaker/designer by trade. I was out of work for 7 1/2 months. Over half of the mold shops are gone, never to return. I am now working for 45% less than I was making at my last job. Companies can't figure out why positions with there companies are still unfilled. Answer.....they are trying to take advantage of the high unemployement by paying low wages to toolmakers. Personally, they ain't getting my 28 years experiance for $14 an hour. No way.
  2. Took the trailer uo to Grayling for the weekend. About 400 miles round trip. The trailer pulled flawlessly. Not a sway or a bounce. Larry (CarbonOne), the hitch is awesome! great job. If anyone here is thinking about a hitch for their bike......talk to Larry (Carbon One), he not only rearrange his schedule, but he made up the hitch and installed it. He did a fantastic job. Larry....thank you again my friend!
  3. UPDATE Charged up the battery. Everything is fine. I feel like such an a$$.
  4. That was a typo. I just fat fingered a key. I edited it to say 2 turn signals. Update. I just went out and tried to start the bike to see if the radio would go out with the turn signals on while it's running. I pretty much killed the battery while working on this project. I "think" that with the key on, all the lights are on, everything is on actually, and when I hit the turn signals, it draws enough juice that the radio shuts off. So I am going to charge it up over night and see what happens in the morning. I hope it's just a case of the battery being too low and too many things on. I am crossing my fingers, toes and both hairs I have left!! I will update this in the morning.
  5. Ok here'e the poop. I just bought a Dart trailer. The trailer has 4 lights, 2 brake/running and 2 turn signal. It has a 5 pin connector. I picked up the mating connector, wired it into the harness of my 07 RSV. After each connection I checked to make sure what I was hooking up worked. After it is all said and done, I have running lights, turn signals and brake lights. Sweet........not!! We noticed that when the running lights were on and I turned on a turn signal, the running lights would dim ever so slightly with each blink of the turn signal. Ok, needs grounded better. As I checked the ground at the harness under the seat and trying it out again I see my radio goes out when I hit the brake or turn on the turn signal. So I unsoldered all of my connections at the bike wiring harnes and now the radio still goes out when I hit the brake or turn signals. I was trying to get this ready for a weekend get away, now I will be driving a cage instead of riding the bike. Any ideas on where I went wrong? How can I fix this? Electrical on a bike is not my strong suit, but I thought it was pretty straight forward. I need help!! Randy
  6. I won't be hooking it up to a car. Just the bike. Thanks for the info.
  7. I just bought Dart trailer. It has the square 5 pin connector. Can anyone lead me to the path of righteousnous on how to wire this up to my 2007 RSV? Randy
  8. On the fuel economy with carbs vs injection. I have an 07 RSV. On average riding by myself I get about 45 mpg. I tend to twist the throttle a bit. Now my wife and I just did the Midnight Ride here in Michigan. Riding two up, full bags and trunk I averaged 49-52 mpg. I ride very conservative with her on the back. When she is on her 750 Shadow and we ride, I have gotten 59 mpg. Don't know how much better fuel injection would do. As far as Harley vs Venture......there are far more Harleys on the road around here than Ventures. Being that they sell more bikes, you will see more broken down. I like the Harley. Nice looking bike no doubt. I cannot justify $30,000 for a bike (even if it does not have a cassette deck). My father in-law rides an Ultra Classic. I know that in the last three years he has put about $3000 into repairs. The bike has about 70,000 miles on it. Every time he takes it on vacation he has issues. Every manufacturer be it Jap or American, makes a bad product sooner or later. My biggest complaint is not the Harley itself, it's the the mentality alot of the riders have. They seem to have the need to ride side by side, which I think is assinine. And alot of them will not wave if your on a metric. Give me a break. I wave to Harleys, crotch rockets and any other bike that I see. It's not important what you ride........what is important is that you ride!!
  9. Crack open the fairing, unplug the 4 large round connectors. Spray some electrical connector on the connectors, put them togeter and take them apart a few times, spray them again, blow then out with compressed air, then wipe some dielectric grease on the female side and put them together. I had a problem of my squelch no longer working. I was picking up chatter from miles away. Once I did this, everything started working fine. It will take about 45 minutes but well worth it. I plan on doing this every spring when I get the bike ready for summer. Let me know how it works out. Randy
  10. My pop just went up my nose !!! That's hilarious!!! Seriously though. You want to piss me off??? Tailgate me. There is no excuse for it. Usually I tap the brake to flash the light a few times. If that does not work, I hand jesture with my thumb facing backwards telling them to back off. If that does not work I will get into the left lane if it's open, slow up and let them know just how unhappy I am. I have stopped at a light on two separate occasions, got off the bike and went back to their window and let them know. Once a Brighton cop was in the next lane two cars back. He just watched and let me speak my peice. It maybe immature on my part, but God help the idiot that decides to get out of their cage. Go ahead....hit me in the helmet....if you make it out of the car. Then, your all mine.
  11. Different strokes for different folks. Some guys cosistantly ride their touring bikes like crotch rockets and then wonder why they are burning up tires. There are ALOT of people that ride that should'nt. Granted, most of the guys on the crotch rockets ride like bone heads. But I have see quite a few guys on touring and cruisers that should not be on them. Personally I could not ride one. My son has the Honda 600RR. I sat on it, that's as far as it went. To each their own.
  12. I have not used the autometer. I am using a Nitrous Brand and had to make up a wiring harness and tap into two of the four coils. Not a big deal. Less than $10 for the supplies.
  13. Thanx for the info guys. The first time I saw it do this I about crapped myself. I figured the lack of airflow would make the temp climb but I did not realize it would climb so high.
  14. Ok, I did the Midnight Ride here in Michigan over the weekend. I have a temp guage. Bike usually runs about 190-200. As I am sitting in line at the Mackinaw Bridge (about 15 minutes) the temp slowly climbed to 230. I was about 4 ft behind the bike in front of me. Could the exhaust from the bike in front cause the temp to climb on mine? Once we got rolling, it went right back down to 190. I have noticed when I get into traffic the temp climbs. Is this normal? It's a 2007 Venture.
  15. That is a darn good price!!! I paid $220 for mine from Utopia in the spring. I love it though. Made a big differance in long rides. If I did not have mine already............I would buy it now.
  16. Actually I did learn a few things from this thread. All I am saying is you get what you pay for. If you buy a cheap trailer, expect to have trouble. Some may never other may. That's all. Don't take offense. It is what it is.
  17. I would think the ultimate lesson learned here was that Harbor Frieght trailers are cheap Chinese junk, just like most things manufactured in China and maybe you should think twice about buying one. Let's face it, you get what you pay for. They are cheap for a reason. I personally do not have a trailer.....yet, But when I do, it won't be a Harbor Frieght Special. I am glad you found the problem. I am willing to bet you won't have anymore tire wear issues.
  18. Just replaced my original tires, Dunlop 404's. They had 14,000 miles on them. I could have gotten about another 1000 out of the rear and maybe 3000 out of the front. Replaced them myself with Dunlop Elite 3's. Man, what a differance.
  19. Congrats! My youngest is a combat medic in the Army National Guard here in Michigan. He deploys to Kuwait and Iraq November 3rd. Very proud moment at his graduation from Fort Sill in Oklahoma. My daughters husband did two tours in Irag with the Army.Tell you nephew I said "Thank you" for his service.
  20. I agree, the first thing I noticed was there was no chrome goodies. Once you add all the other stuff........add at least another grand. I would look around for one that is actually "fully dressed".
  21. I agree, I had problems with my cb. The squealch quit working. I was picking up stuff miles away. I took all the round connectors apart, sprayed electrical connector cleaner into the plugs, put then together and took them apart a few times, then sprayed more cleaner in them, hit them with compressed air, then added a dab of dielectric grease. Took care of the issue. I would bet money this will take care of it.
  22. I am 45 and I got my first RSV last year.
  23. Nope, I'll wait for a 3rd gen..... Me thinks your in for a looooooooong wait.
  24. My Garmin is pretty darn easy to use. 1490T, but it does not have an audio out jack. Huge 5 inch screen, does not wash out in the sunlight. Now the Garmin 765T has both an audio out jack AND an SD card slot for the built-in MP3 player. Comes through the headset. You can get a refurbished one on ebay for about $180. Comes with a 30 day return and a 1 year warranty.....same as buying it from Best Buy. Mine is a refurb and it works great. I know a few poeple who bought brand new units and have had trouble. I used mine in the SUV in Chicago. The traffic updates worked great. Just food for thought. Personally, I can't see spending the cash on a Zumo. You ain't gonna convince me that they are built any better. If your worried about being waterproof, get an Aqua Box from GPS City for $50. Still Cheaper than a Zumo.
  25. My 07 RSV must be an annomally. I average about 45 mpg. Two weeks ago on a ride with my wife on her shadow, we rode very conservatively, I got 59 mpg. All back rodes, no heavy throttle twisting. I was truelly shocked. My brother in-law is a member of this site and was with me. He got about the same I think. Chime in anytime Don.
