thanks Don. Our 2 bells are already on their way. i wish i had them for Texas maint day. they would be blessed and installed by those attendees. but that's a day late and a dollar waiting on a dime. I should be good to go once the bike has bells and is runnin' right.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ i have an 8 # on a 3 foot handle. i am surprised how much i use it. that is my special hammer. Deb knows to move when i walk up with it and that special "i am gonna fix this" look in my eye. -
that's why the Mrs. is getting ours. but then one person is a me, myself and I, so, i believe one of you 3 are safe, if you want to think that way.
the really big catch is that sardines have pull tabs, so the P38 is less handy.
i have one, tho not a vet, i am the son of a Korean war vet. i have to buy them in pairs as i seem to not be able to keep track of them. they are handy, non users don't understand.
Man, O man. i am glad to see i am not the only one with a freeze plug problem in the South. it is nice to mark that one off the list. i do have one ordered and the parts lady "promised" it would be in on Friday. either way, that one is covered. I really hate it when things come down to the wire like this. and to boot Debbie is flying out Thursday morn at 6 AM which means up at 3:30!! she will be helping me tonight to trailer up the bike instead of tomorrow. thanks, guys. i was told not to bring tools, but i do have a special hammer ??? -
looks like that would do the trick. I already popped for a 4 dial gauge setup. it was 45 bux and shipping was included. If all goes as planned (right!) i will learn to use it coming weekend.
I agree with the post concerning frame twist. if the frame is OK, then next would depend on whether you can fix the cosmetic damage or if you have to pay normal rates for body repair. If you do the work, yes, it is worth it. then depending on how much normal rate X time to fix added to the original 500 bucks will determine if it is a deal breaker or not. a plus to fixing it is you have the opportunity to repaint and color match to your scooter. also, to the post concerning the overal height, while doing repair, a fin / spoiler can be added to help stability since you are doing repairs anyway. that is my nickel's worth.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I went to the shop last night and did a look see. i did not have that nice noon time sunshine light, so i may have missed it on the bike. i went thru the trash can and scourered the floor to no avail. I did have to walk the bike out of the shop, turn it around and back in so it is facing out so i can load it up on the trailer. the drain plug may have fallen on the drive way. that will be a circus as we have that loose ground up asphalt stuff and a black rubber plug will blend right in. i will take a gander though. if found, i will have a spare. the starting up with no fins is good info. kind of like watching out for the plugs when removing the fins. -

I called the lake charles yammy place & they said it wouldn't be here till next week. i told him i needed it for saturday. he said to call the DeRidder yammy place. they were just placing their order and said they felt soooo very confident their stuff will be here friday. i said i will gamble with that, so i plunked down my hard plastic and ordered it. we will see. if all else fails, i can just take the one off another cylinder and ...... i will go with what i got. i am only one man, part human and part animal. If I have to, i will make a gasket from sheet gasket and permatex and fashion a freeze drain plug from some rubber blank stock. -
the way things are going with our scooter, i should have ordered 3 way back when. Debbie wants you to order 2 for me. when you are ready to place the order let me know and i shall pay pal fundages your way.

looked in the trash, looked on the bike and looked around the shop floor. looked on the fin. looked on the other fin too, could not find it. I did find a tire valve cap i lost a few months back. i will have to get one through the yammy shop. If they don't have it, i will see if one of you attending the Tomball, Tx maint day has a yammy shop with one. this feels like one of those never ending sagas of one thing leads to another. i have had my challenges lately and i really, really have had enough. -

well, well, an anti freeze cylinder drain plug that comes out with the fins. and i have the fins but not plug. i will have to look around the shop floor. i have swept once, but don't remember seeing something like that. i will check the trash can. i will presume it looks like its cylinder mates anti freeze cylinder drain plug that isn't a "freeze" prevention plug. i can't order one as i need it for coming saturday. i hope the yammy shop has one. Lake Charles has all the major automotive parts reseller stores, could it be a stock item in one of those? -

I am heading back out in the shop and at least plug the hole to stop it dripping. I will check this thread later. -
went to prep the bike to trailer to maint day in Tomball, Tx and what did i find? green fluid on the clutch cover and an open hole on the valve jug. tell me if i have guessed correctly and a freeze plug has blown out. the green stuff is anti freez (that didn't work). then i guess i will need a freeze plug. how do you install a new one? I don't know what is going on with my bike, but if all "junk" comes in three's, then i should be clear by now. 1 rear tire flat - new one bought and installed 2 clutch shifter problem - in process 3 freeze plug - in learning curve. thanks

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yep, your handbook sure does. there is a lot of information in the seach results mentioned previously. we have members here that are well educated in lubrication and have shared their information. also there are a lot of members with a lot of experience with different oil that gave different results that led them to choose their brand of products. we have members from both arena's sharing their thoughts. you have to read the threads to draw a conclusion of your own. your guide book is just that - a "guide" book. you will be safe with it, but there are possibilities out there you may want to explore after more reading. i probably read nearly 2 hours of oil & filter threads. we are lucky our members share their knowledge. i have a long time to go before i can give back what i have learned.
-
If you want to look at the other threads that have useful information, do a search on Purolator or Rotella.
-
Yes, you will get many answers as to what different riders use for oil, filter and why they use that particular product. I had read many threads and chose to use the purolator PL something or other model number. i use Yamaha lube (20-50) because that is what the previous owner used. i have no whine or chirp, so that is why i am going to continue to use the yama lube. keeping an eye on the level and changing it when recomended or needed is also a key to a healthy motor. one thing I found out on my lowered 04 RSV, is that my automotive oil catch pan was too tall to fit under the bike. i took a gallon empty oil container and cut the side off. for clarification - the gallon oil jug sitting normal, choose left or right side. lay jug down on left. the right side is now up. cut the now up side off. new oil catch pan that slides easily under a lowered bike. this way you can drain the sump and take the filter off and both drain into the new catch pan. and it has a built in spigot which was the original pour spout with screw on cap.
other than figureing how things are supposed to work, i haven't had hands on another RSV to know working from non working. but, after checking for what has been suggested, the linkages seem to be ok. when running on the stand, there was a lot of racket coming from inside, so i am looking in. but as you suggest, the links, may explain why the shifter flops backwards by 4 inches or so. there is a texas maint day scheduled, i may just bag my parts and trailer it there.
