  1. Thanks Don
  2. That is what prompted me to think about the condition of his batter/charging system...
  3. I'll go out on a limb here and say this is flawed logic. They've been making the 99 Venture for 11 production years now...
  4. Hey Tom: In the VRStore, the post by freebird says to "PM me with the order information" Does that mean that we are to pm YOU or don? I am pretty sure that the intent is to PM you (Tom) with the order information, but I just want to make sure.
  5. I'm interested. BUT, our weather here is not quite as nice as DFW, so that is going to have to be a factor for whether I could make it or not. I don't know that I need my floats set (but based on what you have said Kent, they are probably way out of spec), but I'm due for a valve adjustment check. I definitely want to learn. I have rebuilt car motors, but have not torn into a bike before... I'll stay tuned for sure.
  6. :sign woo hoo::sign woo hoo: PM received and payment sent! So unless I really screwed up somewhere, you should have some $$$ Thanks a lot for all this Jeff (and Dan). Have a merry Christmas and happy new year too! - Rick
  7. Where are you in Texas? It was 15 degrees at my house and my bike ran with no problem. I started it in the (non-heated) garage (I actually had to choke it this morning), backed out, turned off the choke and took off. Total running time with choke in was probably 30 seconds to 1 minute. I do not use a battery tender or anything like that either. I did not notice a significant difference in idle speed or anything with or without choke. Ran like it usually does. I suppose a few things to ask yourself are: How old is that battery? What condition is the charging system in? When was the last time you ran a fuel system cleaner through the bike? etc. I'll stop here because I realize that I am not answering your question. **Hope you get started and take off fine at the end of your work day!
  8. Had one of those here in Lubbock, TX today too.... Although it was just a delayed start. I found out after I got to my office and found no one else around. Oh well. That just means I get a few hours to work, undisturbed. Oh yea, I rode my bike in today News story about how "bad" it was this morning to get school delayed... I guess I come in too early, as I beat the freezing rain... http://www.kcbd.com/global/Story.asp?s=11644094
  9. I am suprised that no one has mentioned this yet... I (and many others here) have put a 15" light bar, mounted between the helmet locks. Mine cost me about $20 from a local truck stop and $0.50 in two bolts, lock washers and nuts. http://signaldynamics.com/products/LightBars/15ultra.asp (Pretty much what I have) I also put in a 32LED board in the tail lamp (plug and play right in the light bulb socket). That was a little more expensive, but it IS very VERY visible, even in the day time. http://www.bikerhiway.com/led-tail-light-for-yamaha-road-star-and-vstar-p-176.html I believe I got mine for 40 or 45 from here, looks like the price went up. You may be able to find it cheaper else where. I'll see about taking some pictures when I get home (since I don't have my camera now). Hope that helps.
  10. :clap2: Thanks a lot!!
  11. That is a guaranteed way to have no on ever ride with me again...
  12. I think I'll mount this on my Helmet.
  13. If I only had the cash... :mo money:
  14. http://www.signaldynamics.com/products/Modules/HUVM.asp - Is this the one you are referring to? the ~$27 single LED?
  15. Whichever way she wants it is correct... Even if she changes her mind, she is still correct. Me; mine sits on the back of the lou - and I hear no complaints. Although, I don't share that water closet with anyone either...
  16. Sorry...
  17. I think you need to use the "insert link" and pastethe URL into there... Maybe someone else will chime in that will be more helpful.
  18. Well, I am impressed. The 'tool' does exist. I bet I couldn't get that through customs... Mostly because I don't know that anyone would believe what it is for Glad your bike's whine is much better too!!!
  19. I know that you said that you have checked e-bay - but try looking up PinWall parts (Hopefully this link will work: http://myworld.ebay.com/pinwall_cycle_parts/ ) I do not currently see anything on their website, but I'd give them a call and see what they've got. They do not post everything they have on e-bay. Also, many salvage yards are quite connected and may be able to find a good set for you. Several members on here have been very pleased with the service (except for the pricey shipping) from PinWall. I personally have ordered two things from them. The shipping time was reasonable - the items went out next day (I ordered in the late evening). And they arrived as described. They post pictures of the parts and videos of the bikes running before they disassemble it, etc... Personally, I would not hesitate to order from them again and am keeping an on on them for a part or two I need for another bike. Anyways, I'd give them a phone call and see if they cannot set you up with something.
  20. Thanks for the link!!! Ordered mine too... Gave a fake phone number so hopefully they don't call to verify...
  21. Good deal! This way, when it gets "Lost in transit" Rick (SilverT) will have, yet ANOTHER, excuse why no one has seen this particular item.
  22. :yikes::yikes: (The 'sad' part is I did it without thinking about it... ) It is no wonder that my students look at me funny and ask "You ain't from 'round these here parts now are ya?" I guess it is official then. Canada has scarred me for life. (Although I think the 4 years in Michigan's Upper Penninusla - and all those folks from Minnesoooooooota tainted me before the Canadians; Dont-cha know, eh?)
  23. Whatever could you be talking about? :whistling:
  24. I think that you are all talk and have no such tool... You've been making your excuses about posting pictures for a few weeks now. I guess we should buckleup for another excuse this weekend, eh? :stickpoke: :witch_brew::witch_brew:
  25. Congrats on your new ride!! And welcome to the cRaZyHoUsE!! :2LIME:
