  1. Mark, I dont believe that the cams that were in the 1200cc models were to Vmax specs. In '86 when thet introduced the new body style & 1300cc motor I think they decided that they wanted to go the full touring model and made it a bit tamer. The cams were designed for, I would imagine more torque and a smoother driveablity. I haven't put a set of Vmax cams in a G2...yet, but I would like to do just that. It will obviously drink a bit more fuel, but the more useable horsepower would be nice. Many guys have changed out the rearend to a Vmax or FJR 1300 for a better take off gear ratio. The 5th gear on the G2's is a true overdrive and swapping the gears only raises the 5th gear RPM's about 500. It's great for out of the hole especially if your 2 up and pulling a trailer.
  2. Roger that Charlie, we'll get you around the area here, and we have some good places to eat around here too, so come hungry! ....and hot, yeah it's hot, heat indexes over 100 degrees daily, see you in a few days

  7. I have been in contact with The Goatkeeper (Dianne) about how James is doing. He's still in a bad way to go as far as their not knowing what is making him pass out. Here is her PM to me with whats going on. "His daughter is down here again, and staying with me. We have talked about the mayo hospital in Rochester MN look at him. The doctors here are ok but puzzled as to what's going on with him? no cancer thank god. Just trouble with blood pressure that drops when he gets up quick or stands to long? Then the headaches come and boom down he goes. I will inform him of your message, if you can, will you post and tell everyone that he's thinking of all of you folks? Thanks Dianne" He's obviously not out of the woods yet, so if you folks want to drop him a PM I know it would help his spirits if nothing else. Send one to Dianne too as I'm sure her spirit needs a lift too. Thanks to all of you that have kept a vigil with keeping James in your thoughts and prayers.

  11. Easy Dale easy..... I can bring another lift adapter and I have a couple of jacks, 1 @ our house and 1 @ Kregs. We'll more than likely bring the wagon to haul all of it. I'll also bring the usual carbtune and brake bleeder.
  12. I'm with Boo, I have owned 8 Ventures, 4 1st gens - '84, 2 86's and an '89 and 4 2nd gens 3 99's and an '08 The 1200 cc's are the fastest of them all as they had a little hotter cam. The G2's are the most comfortable imo.
  13. Sometimes a bit more depending upon who is too close to me

  17. Renne, I know about having to sell the scoots, 2 of them in a year for me. Are you still going to be on 2 wheels or are you having to give it up?
  18. We talked about that last night, he's going get ahold of HF and see about getting a new axle. I also have a spare one that Dray gave to me from when he had issues with his HF trailer. I'd be willing to bet that the spindles arent welded square with the cross tube. Worst case is I'll bring it into the shop here and either heat and tweak or just cut them off and weld them on right.
  19. James, Your in our thoughts my friend, all the best in the recovery. Dianne....Thank you Kiddo, it help us here on the site knowing that the old goat has a friend as good as you
  20. Here are some pics of how I tie a 1st gen down to my trailer that I built specifically for pulling the bikes.
  21. This is just a wild guess, but have you tried a different ignition box? It almost sounds like electrical cutting out, fuel pump is another option as Forest mentioned. How old is the battery and when was the last time you checked the charging system? The Venture is hard on batteries as the electrical system is just barely adequate. Check all your connections at the battery and solenoid/frame for tightness and corrosion.
  22. Jeff....dont give Doodle any more ideas than he already has Besides I really want to get that '99 on the road at some point
  23. Do me a favor Doodle....could you unload "Your" parts bike off the trailer so I can let Dave use it
  24. Good to see you folks had a good time, I ended up putting on 1100 miles in 50 hours this weekend myself
  25. David, I have a trailer that I specifically built for hauling our touring bikes. I have hauled both 1st and 2nd gens on it. Your more than welcome to use it if you want to, It has 6 11000 lb D rings to secure the bike and a wheel chock up front. It has new tires and it's what I used to bring the '89 down here to Texas from Michigan. It's yours for the using if you want it, give me a call if you want to go this route.
