  1. I know that Rick Butler put the tips on his RSV. I think he somehow punched and then tapped some holes. I got lucky when I did mine. Bought a complete set of RSTD muffers off Ebay for $70.00.
  2. Pictures...I knew I was forgetting something. Maybe later today. I haven't really compared the Polks to the Pioneers yet. They sound great in the garage but so did the Pioneers. It's on the road that I hope to hear a difference.
  3. As we approach the 5,000 member mark, I think it's time that we think about a contest. How about a $100.00 gift certificate from New Enough? As you know, they contribute $1.00 per sale when one of our members buys from them and chooses VentureRider as the sponsor club. We have already given away one prize from there and we have enough in the account there now to give away another one. So.....put your thinking caps on and let's decide how to do this one.
  4. I know that my Verizon phone has it also. It is user selectable for on all the time or 911 only. As far as I know though, there is no website or anything where you can actually set up the tracking for individuals to monitor.
  5. The 10% is the minimum discount, or at least that's what Rick told me. He said that the discount could be more depending upon the item.
  6. I don't know what kind of problems he's having but if I remember correctly, that is the Voyager trike kit. Easy on and easy off. Really not much that it can mess up.
  7. If I were looking for a new bike, I would at least try to look at one of the new Triumph Rocket III tourers. Would get expensive though by the time I added the trunk and a fairing.
  8. That really is nice. I have three separate units now. A gas grill, a charcoal grill and a smoker. That would work out so much better.
  9. Heck..I NEVER get to work on my own bike on Maintenance Day.
  10. Amid all the other stuff going on around here, I did finally find a couple of hours to work on the bike today. Got the new Avons mounted on Thursday evening so that was done already. A while back, I switched from XM to Sirius and hadn't gotten around yet to redoing the power supply for the radio on the bike. So...I split the fairing an replaced the XM power cable with the Sirius. While I had things apart, I went ahead and replaced the Pioneer speakers with a pair of Polk DB401. I have a set for the rear also but am no hurry on them. Last year on the way to Vogel I lost one of my front lower air deflectors. I finally got around to ordering a new set of Diamond R Accessories polished stainless deflectors and they came today so I went ahead and installed them also. I tell you, I had seen these on some other bikes but had forgotten how nice they are. Truly quality work. So....the bike is ready I think. Only thing I haven't yet done this year is ...uh...actually ride it. Maybe tomorrow.
  11. I actually made a quick attempt to use the Honda engine. It's only 5 HP and the one on the vacuum is 8 HP. I would have tried it anyway though. Pulled the pump though and the shaft is completely wrong. The motor for the vacuum uses a 7/8" tapered shaft and the Honda has about a 5/8" straight shaft. It would be great for a go cart or something.
  12. Heck..if you don't care how much...just send it all. Actually the "subscription" is the same as a donation. Just click on "Donations" in the upper menu bar, the left menu bar or in your profiles is a link called "Paid Subscriptions". They are all the same thing. There are several choices of amounts to choose. Any of the "yearly" choices are one time donations. You will just get a reminder next year and nothing more. If you had rather just not do it that way at all or want to send more or less than the choices offer, you can just PayPal to dk_nelson@verizon.net
  13. Just a way to help support the site. Pay for the hosting, software, etc. TOTALLY and COMPLETELY VOLUNTARY. NOBODY will be locked out of any area for not paying.
  14. Truth is, I have NEVER liked Tecumseh engines. Never a single time have I had any good luck from one. My preferences are actually Honda and Kohler. After that, I'll take a Briggs. I didn't even realize that this vacuum had a Tecumseh on it until after I bought it. Probably would have bought it anyway but wouldn't have been thrilled. I bought a new pressure washer last week because the pump on my old one went bad. Couldn't find a pump for less than a new washer costs. The old one had a Honda engine that still runs like new. I'll probably put it on Ebay and see what it will bring. The new one has a Suburu engine. This will be my first experience with them.
  15. No, it never ends. It's a curse that I will apparently just have to live with. I knew this one was coming though. A couple of weeks ago I posted about how the oil drain pipe on the 8HP engine on the lawn vacuum broke and all the oil drained out and it died. About how I did get it running again and how it didn't even smoke and ran great. I wondered how long THAT would last. I now know how long it will last. It lasted until about 6:30 PM yesterday. I was mowing and the vacuum was running great when suddenly there was a loud clanging noise and it quit. A quick inspection was all it took to see the approximately 3" hole in the side of the block. So....that one is done. It was a 8HP Tecumseh. I just found and bought a new 8HP Briggs on Ebay so this piece of crap will live to vacuum another day. And there with another $325.00.
  16. You don't even have to do all of that. When you click on their name in a post, there is a link there to simply send them a PM.
  17. I've had two reports from people who tell me that the donation button in the upper right of the menu bar and also the one in the left menus do not work and you just get a blank page with some text. If that is happening, then you just need to clear your browsers "cache" because it is pulling up old pages from your cache. Some have also told me that they don't want to "subscribe" because they don't want it to automatically bill them again a year from now. Please note, ONLY the monthly subscriptions are automatic billing. For the yearly ones, you will get a reminder but will NOT be automatically billed.
  18. I am not an expert on the Royal Star but from everything I've read, the biggest problem was that they limited the air box too much in an effort to keep it hidden and improve the looks. Baron's sells a "Big Air Kit" that is supposed to really help. Of course, it also means rejetting the carbs. The problem is that by putting the needed air into it, the carbs then end up being too small. You can change the carbs too and there is an article in the tech library that shows a method of doing so. If you don't want to go that far though, the BAK and re-jet might get you where you want to be.
  19. There are several on the market. I have one on my trailer that is basically the same as these but home made by the guy I bought the trailer from. Works well and a lot cheaper to make than to buy. http://www.wheeldock.com/?gclid=COP-ivmKv5MCFQIaFQodZhguDA http://www.wikco.com/wheelpro.html
  20. Here are the links for you: Diamond R Accessories http://www.diamondraccessories.com He has the backrest and the Wagner Grill Cover Utopia http://www.utpr.com Wagner http://www.wagnercustomproducts.com/
  21. Looks GREAT. He makes a fantastic product.
  22. I love those older bikes. I would have bought it also.
  23. Installing the brake pads at Maintenance Day shouldn't be a problem.
  24. Done...and good luck. Would hate to see you locked up TOO long and George have to wash his own bike.
  25. OK folks, I have been meaning to post this for a while but just hadn't gotten around to it. There is a lot of talk here about the tightening/adjusting of the steering head bearings. There is a short cut method posted in the tech library on how to tighten them without tearing the entire front end of the RSV apart. This method works fine for a short term fix. I want to say though that the easy method is NOT the preferred method. At least, not for the first time you do it. The fact is, just as Yamaha is not very good at adequately greasing the rear splines and drive shafts on these bikes, they are just as bad at greasing the steering head bearings. You can tighten them to help with any looseness but the fact is, they need to be torn down and repacked. It is not a quick job and in fact, I would expect to spend about 6 hours doing it. It is a lot of work but sooner or later, you are going to have to do it. If you don't do it now, you will do it later when you have to replace the bearings. Bob Dakin recently had this conversation with a local Yamaha service tech. Bob mentioned that he needed to tear his down and grease the bearings. I think Bob has 30 something thousand on his RSV. The tech responded that he shouldn't even bother because most of these bikes need new steering head bearings at about 50,000 miles anyway. Well my response to that is that if they need new bearings at around 50,000 miles it's because they are properly greased from the factory. So, use the short cut method if you must. I've done it to. But keep in mind that it is NOT the long term solution. If you do it, you will likely have to do it again. They will loosen up again because the bearings are wearing due to inadequate grease. Once done and done properly, they will last a LONG time and it's not something you will have to worry about again for several years.
