When all is done I will have a emergency back-up ignition toggle switch hidden on the bike.
-
Oh boy........I just put a new set of sneakers on the wife's Tahoe. Great way to break em in!!
-
Thanks a bunch guys! With the info in this thread alone I don't think I or any other Venture rider will be stranded on the road because of a faulty/failed ignition switch. Bravo Zulu to all who contributed info and pics!! Regards.........Boomer
-
Got it.........Thanks Mike!
-
That is just great! Thanks for the info. Tomorrow I will have the Tech do just that prior to installing the new switch on the bike. A heavy duty toggle switch with extra wire has to be cheaper than buying a new back-up OEM switch.........
-
Is there a specific diagram/instructions for doing that? I could live with that a lot easier than forking out the $$$$ for a new switch to carry as a back-up.
-
Been there done that with 4 different sets of gloves.....All were a failure at temps of 40F or lower. Wasted a lot of $$$$ on them.
-
Pfffffffftttttttttttt......
-
Eck.....I will call the Tech first thing on Monday and see if I can have the damaged switch. If I can get it I will gladly ship it off to you. And that lunch offer is firm with no time expiration applied!
-
Will do Eck! I am also considering buy an extra ignition switch to carry with me on the bike. It was a gut wrenching moment for me yesterday to realize that I was stuck on the road because of this lousy switch!! You are a fair distance from me but if you ever ride this far North give me a shout and lunch is on me.....at Hooter's of course!

$1700 a week will buy a LOT of chrome for the scoot.........
-
Already did that when I talked to the Tech at the Shop yesterday. I remembered reading here about those PITA bolts for the ignition switch. The Tech found a set of stainless steel bolts in his toolbox and he's gonna use them. I gave him $20 for lunch in return and put a nice smile on his face to boot..........
-
I never thought that color would look good on a Venture.....but seeing is believing! That bike is really sharp looking!! Great job you did!!
-
My Dealer offered to put the I Basket in my Venture( this week while the bike is there for a new ignition switch) to cure the "whine".......I asked him "What whine?" LOL!..........With those 4-2-4's I don't hear any whine/chirp at any speed/gear/rpm.
-
Hey ddoggma.......2 weeks ago I bought the Tourmaster Synergy heated jacket liner and gloves.......Best money I have ever spent when it comes to cold weather riding! I have found that the gloves work a lot better when you hook up a seperate heat controller to them vice running them off the jacket sleeve connections. Ride on Bro!!
-
I remember he was passionate about trying to solve the whine/chirp issue with these Ventures. Because of his research/postings I ended up putting the Barons Nasty Boy exhaust on my Venture....and I was real CLOSE on trading the bike off for another brand of scoot until I did that. I'm glad that he has found a scoot that he is happy with....we all deserve to have a scoot that we truly love to ride no matter what brand/make/model.
-
Thanks Don.....No damn way I'm gonna stay off the bike until the 20th of March! Give me a day with clear dry roads and I'm riding regardless of the outside temperature! My wife just shakes her head....and helps me get all buttoned/zipped up for a cold ride.....

Woke up to 26F and 3 inches of angel crap all over the place here. I have not counted the number of days until Spring gets here cuz it is just too depressing to know how many days of Winter we have left..........
-
Mine finally gave out on me yesterday after completing a Patriot Guard mission. Locked up so bad I could not even start the bike. My local Dealer picked her up within 30 minutes of my call to him. New switch was already on Order by the time she came off the trailer at the Shop and the new switch from Yammi should be in within 3-4 days. Can't ride this coming week anyhow cuz of our lousy weather of snow/sleet/ice.

I for one truly miss Kit's postings here. The guy really did his homework on the Venture and posted the detailed info here for the benefit of all. He was always quick to respond to anyone's questions regarding any problems or maintenance issues too....and he would,at least for me,send PM's with much info. I will always hold him in high regard no matter what he rides.

Finally replaced front tire!
BoomerCPO replied to Ferrantelli's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Glad to hear you replaced that front tire Joe! I noticed it when we were at the Vets Day Parade in NY and was sorely tempted to say something to you about it. Ride Safe!.....And not putting a Metzler on was a smart decision IMHO. Regards........Boomer -
I guess it all boils down to the purchaser to determine what kind of lighting he wants for the scoot.....plus taking into consideration price, appearance, and ease of mounting. I'm going with 2 sets on the front of my scoot. 1 set will be used only for daytime driving for added visibility. The 2nd set will be used for additional road illumination at night. And I'll just stick with calling them all LIGHTS so no one can come along and p**s on my boots over terminology!

How This Big Old Top-heavy Bike May Have SAVED My LIFE
BoomerCPO replied to Aimhigh's topic in Watering Hole
Good on you for going to the Doc Jim! I generally avoid Doctors like the plague except when it comes to heart and prostate. 2 years ago at age 56 I had my first thorough exam of the "rear hatch". They removed 6 polyups! All tested clean but my Doc has me go through the whole procedure every 3 years now to be on the safe side. ****Good luck with your surgery and fast recovery.**** And to any man who is 50 and over I say get the prostate exam done. The worst part of the whole procedure is flushing the plumbing good the night before.....and I mixed the "flushing agent" with fruit juice so even that was not too bad. -
