  1. I'll take a set. Not sure what the count is now. Enough? Let me know via PM on how to pay.
  2. I have the one from Ace High Leathers... for 2 yrs. now. First... outstanding build quality. It's the best leather I have ever seen. Fits perfectly, snaps on and off in seconds. I had nanci put red trim on the top so it matched the bike paint. I would suggest you get the left side mount. I did not think about this on our last trip, but getting to the water with the left hand is easier than taking you hand off the throttle and reaching back. Also, passengers find these irritating to the back of their legs and feet. I pull mine off when 2 up. Disclaimer: I do the web site for AceHighLeathers.com as a favor to Nanci. We bought their RSV. She is one talented leather worker. I just designed a mud flap, she built it... it's pretty nice looking. I'll post photos when I get the final version installed.
  3. Wind under the fairing is not a problem. Wished I had more in the Texas this past July. I have removed the clear fairing 'lips' already just to get more air. Granted it is a bit nipper (like yesterday morning) on winter days... but I just turn the heated vest up a setting or two. Thanks for the response. I feared they were put on by Yam to hold the front end down at 90+mph or something like that. Mine will stay off for now.
  4. What is the purpose of these little buggers? accept to keep us buying new brackets all the time? When the second bracket broke this year, I took both off. Front end actually looks better without them... IMHO.
  5. Mine has been on for a year, right side, using Carbon One's bracket. Flawless. I do think the horn is less 'hearable' by cagers on my left side (I've made 2 just about poop their pants on the right side). I think 2 of these, one on each side of the bike, would be better. Right side mounting ideas?
  6. ...and we have new shock! Wow guys... big thanks. Photo proof will be posted. We just don't have gatherings like this in Utah. To bad. My wife and I send big thanks and good vibes to all. We can not beat it back to Salt Lake in a much safer, and more comfortable, mode. Goose.... front end much better with equal pressure in both forks and idle is upped. Tom and wife... big thanks for hosting this and squeezing our problem into your work session. Back on the road....
  7. My wife, who is riding her customized V-Star 650 on this trip, would gladly be there to watch a bunch of fat, beered-up old guys with butt crack showing, work their way out of this one... but the other option is to spend time with the grand kids who are a long way from Salt Lake City. Tuff decision... old butt crack.... cute grand kids... We have a winner.
  8. My GPS says 91 miles to Tom's place from Jourdenton. I'll be on the road about 8'ish am headed north. I think I have a route around the construction shutdown on the 281.
  9. Yes. the part was from Yamaha Suzuki West. Great folks. The one I got was a shock sent to do a warrantee job, accept Yamaha sent 2... to my good fortune now. Sat. Morning will be the fix-it time. To hot to ride Friday afternoon. You folks have whole new meaning to hot here. I live in a desert (Salt Lake City is upper desert and rarely gets above 20% on the old humidity scale. We have swamp coolers instead of AC.) Thanks to all and I'm making a beer run tonight. I'll see how much the saddle bags can hold. I know how much the Bushtek trailer can hold.... as much as I can put air in the suspension. But not a good idea when you have no suspension in the pull vehicle.
  10. Good news!!! FOUND ONE in Fort worth.. Yamaha suzuki West of Fort Worth. Get this... $581 with overnight. Wow. Still spendy but everyone else quotes list of $675 + tax+ s&h. So, I'll have the shock in hand tomorrow afternoon. I feel better now.
  11. I've checked with the west coast, BikeBandit, and 3 dlrs. in San Antonio... no joy and all say 3 to 5 day delivery... which might indicate that the Tx warehouse does not have them as well. The air bag is fine.... and it bouces!!! so the shock itself is not siezed... just out of juice. The only real complication is that I am towing a BushTek trailer. Less toung weight than 2 up, just a control issue maybe. I think I am going check a few more dealers but it does not look promising. I'll pass along what I find in a few minutes.
  12. So many thanks to you guys. Tom did contact me. No shock in San Antonio so I am checking on the West Coast. When I find one, it will be fed-x'd in. I've ridden hard tail... mucho younger then. 1958 Triumph 650, 10" over forks, chrome frame, the whole 70's thing. Maye that' why the kindneys complain now? And a huge thanks to Freebird for getting me back on the list to make this happen. "2 cases of beer".... make it a micro brew and I'm all over that. Should have brought more home brew. Never know when you will need it.
  13. I have had lots of folks pull out in front of us from side streets or doing a lane change without looking (tuff to look while you are texting I hear). We put in a head light modulator in both bikes. Not one, zero, nada, zip people have pulled out in front of us. They do the 'give it a look (rolling stop) then start to move out in our path... then hit the breaks and stop hard.' Some are pissed 'cause we are not cops or emergency veh. Let them be pissed. All I are about is not becoming part of the paint on their cage. The funny thing that happened rather frequently while on our last 28 day, 5000 mile road trip... people would roll down their window and say "Hay, did ya know your headlight is flashing on and off?" Yep! thanks, glad you spotted that.
  14. Is it possible to put the RSV trunk and seat on a Tour Delux? Seems that all the right bolt holes are there in the side fender rails. Not sure about the seat and rear fender. I have a friend who's passenger want's a bit more comfort.
  15. OK... my tool kit has be augmented from stock I think. First time I have opened it and I'm the 3rd owner: 1- pliers (crappy quality) 2 - open end wrenches (10-12, 14-17mm) 1- spark plug wrench/tube 1- weird semi flattened metal tube... what the hell is that for? I bet there is a piece of metal stock that should go into it and make a wrench handle for the weird spark plug socket thing. 1- screwdriver with a shaft that has flat on one end and phillips on the other. 3- allen wrenches... 5mm, 6mm, 8mm 1- tire gauge I also carry a short adjustable wrench, and an allen wrench to fit the fairing bolts, wire cutters, short roll of electrical tape, 18" or so of electrical wire. Looking at this kit, I'm going to replace the stock tools with good ones. Most likely a waist of money but I hate dealing with crappy factory motorcycle tools. Kinda like the batteries that came in your TV remote from the factory... lasts about a month then your pissed when they die at midnight and you don't have any of those AAA buggers around the house.
  16. Here's a good source for speakers... all kinds. I design custom speakers for fun and frustration... What you want is: 1- cheap 2- poly or metal cones 3- 2 way is nice but actually, the 4" size does not give you much base anyway... so the single driver works fine. http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage.cfm?webpage_id=3&CAT_ID=35&ObjectGroup_ID=41 I have used a set of the Phoenix series in my first generation... sounded much better even though they are cheap. Factory speakers are mondo-cheap so anything is better.
  17. Best tool kit I ever owned: 1- cell phone 1- AAA+ card (or credit card to pay for tow) 1- pint Jack Daniels (to drink while waiting for tow and/or after you get the bill) Your mileage may vary. Seriously... I'll inventory mine tonight and get it to you.
  18. EFI would have been a god-send on this past 28 day road trip. The ethanol mix ran in the carb'd bike but the mileage is 25mpg at best. The newer HD, Wings and Beemers were having no real issues with the blended fuel. I am a firm believer that the ethanol idea is a bad one anyway... but it is hard to find fuel that does not have at least 10% in the mid states, we found. Your mileage may vary... ours did
  19. July 10---- Made it to Indianapolius, In. last night. Wooo.... got nailed in some rain. Fish drowning kinda stuff. Managed to take cover at a few gas stations. Bike and new tire worked well. Never had the both sides of the windshield obscured by rain before. Went around the south side of Cincinnati, Oh. 3 state crossings in one swing. Cool. Best ride of the day was highway 125 out of New Boston. This is a great road into Cincinnati. Best eats.... American Cafe in New Boston. Very local, very traditional.... right down to the harvest gold toilets. Right off the bat, pouring your coffee "you folks passing through? haven't seen you here before." Plan now is to pound 65 north to the east side of Lake Michigan, take 35 up and head east on 2 from St. Inglace. And so it goes...
  20. June 8th------------- OK, did 16 miles today and we are staying across the parking lot from the hotel we were in last night. BUT! did get a tire on. Can't say enough about Yamaha Powersports of Hurricane, WV. They had a tire and worked us in. Great guys and no price gouging. $118 for a Periele (never heard of it for an RSV but I'm not complaining on the road) and only $55 to pull, mount and balance. I have HD mufflers so they had to pull both and the right saddle bag to get the axle bolt out... even super greased the hub while in there. Small town, great service. So we walk out of the dealership to see a HUGE, MONDO storm just minutes away. Scrambled to a place to eat a late lunch, covered the bike and watched it rain like buckets for an hour. 4pm and iff'y weather so we decided to hunker down in a Budget Motel (dive) across the parking lot from last night. Interestingly enough there is a building permit taped to the front door. Hope they knock it down and start over. Just remember... if it smells like curry, leave in a hurry. Old 18 wheeler friend told me that one. Radar and forecast show solid line of active weather to our west and north where we need to get... we are are going to follow 64 a bit more south to let it pass then turn north to Detroit area. This constant 60%+ humidity is for the birds. Give me dry heat... Loving this road trip.... Bob & Lisa
  21. Ok, many days of no net access and we are now on the road back. Virginia is wonderful. Did the 311 out of Roanoak across the range. Wow. Nobody but us on the road. What a road. Now hunkered down in Hurricane, W. Vir. looking for a rear tire. This POS Mitchelin is burning up fast. Was on the bike when we got it. Lasted about 5000 miles. Hope we can find a tire and install shop time in Huntsville, W. Va. or close to there. We are now bare in the middle. Not much road left in this baby. If someone has any help on source for a Avon Venom X or Dunlop for the rear that can be done tomorrow (tues.) it would be greatly appreciated. 150/90/15 if I recall right. Our plans, after the tire replacement, is north past Detroit, around the western lake shores, then on to highway 2 and west to Idaho, then down, back to Salt Lake. and one we go... we hope.
  22. July 1...... Ok, the run out of Tenn. to Va on 40 sucks. So we got of at Abingdon and headed south east on 58 and did the Mt. Rogers National Rec area run. Wow. Wonderful twisties and stunning views. That made those hours of pounding 40 worth it. Have come on some pretty bad accidents on 40. Big rig went over the guard rail, flipped and killed the driver. Also a car over another guard rail, upside down and on fire. Sobering. We're parked on Independence, Va. Nice little town. Observations: You folks in this neck of the woods, have got religion. There is some kind of church in every town, nook and cranny. Kind of boring in Utah. Mormon churches out number 7-11's. Kind of bland. More fun drivin' on the best roads on the US we have seen so far. 3 more weeks to go. Guess we need to update the map below....
  23. From the road again... Wonderful stay in Branson. It rained... big time. Washed out a bridge, flooded an RV park (pick-nick tables were under water). So does that make a 5th wheel trailer a houseboat? The run into Memphis was really quite nice. Perfect weather and the 412 across and down is splendid. Found some nice local eateries... our preference... with great people to chat with. Wandering mountain roads in the Ozarks... can't get much better than that. We've done a bit over 1500 miles so far. Does not seem like that much but who's counting when the scenery glides by, one small town after another. June 30---------- Memphis, Tn. to ???? Eastbound on 40 got boring... so we jumped to 70 which parallels it just north. Nice country road. Much better driving through small towns. Tenn. is one green state after you come from an upper desert like Utah. We played around in Nashville for a few hours. Downtown is nice. Lots of fun touresta stuff. Then we blasted back on 40, twisted the throttle open a bit an pounded the lanes to a Super8 in Crossville, Tn. Hunkering down for the night, some dark clouds overhead. Fingers crossed. Next stop is Smith Mountain lake in Union Hall, Va. And so we go...
  24. Run from Tulsa, Ok. to Branson via Eureka Springs was wonderful... and hot... and humid. We are kinda use to the upper desert climate of Utah. Wife is from N.J. and says 'you ain't seen nothing yet'. Eureka Springs is a must see if you are in the neighborhood. Very cool art community. Branson.... traffic sucks here. Really sucks. Fun regional sayings we have encountered and like: "Where ya-all headed at?" MMmm, 'headed too' sort of defines a straight line, or you have solid plans.... we are more "headed at" folks I think. "The sun is leaning hard on ya today". Never thought of it that way, but it has felt like the heat does press on you. Off to wash some road grim and dead bugs off the bike, then on to a few shows. Need to find new front break pads. These have screeched from day one and they are going to now get 86'd before we leave here if I can work it out.
  25. We be road trippin'. Day 4 and we are in Tulsa, Ok. Nice town... big. Trip has been quite nice so far . Have not seen any of these roads before or Ks, and Oklahoma and Ark. Drove by miles of huge! wind mills today cranking out the megawatts here in Ok. Wonderful site. Colorado was hot. Really windy from Colorado Springs to Pueblo. Like 45mph+ side winds. Real lane changers. The run into Dodge City, Ks. was hotter. Having ballistic jackets and evaporative cooling vests are God sends. They were going from soaking wet to bone dry in 45min. And what is with the relentless 25mph south winds. All we do is drive straight, leaning over on the right side. Man that is tiring. I guess on the way back we will wear the tires on the other side of the tread. We have been in and out of big storm formations all around but only light sprinkles here and there. Very lucky considering the size of these storms. They pounded Dodge City while we slept. Next stop is Branson via the 412 east bound then north on some nice mtn. roads south of Branson. Only a 250 or so mile day so we can stop and play. We'll spend 3 days in Branson, catch a few shows, see the one that our daughter is media tech for (The Dutton's Theater). Guess Lisa will have to do a blue rinse hair color to fit in with the average crowd in Branson. Bike is running pretty good. Rich on the right 2 cyl. and it hates gas-ahol. Dropped the milage from 39 to 23 mpg. Ouch. Won't try that again. Already taking a hit towing a trailer and fighting side winds. It also had issues with climbing over the 12,000' pass in Colorado. Runnin' a bit rich at that altitude. Maybe someone in the Va. area can assist with some sort of tune up? We are on sched. to be in Roanoak, Va. on the 30th of June. Our rear ends are feeling fine... so far. So we will keep movin' on across this great land seein' the sights and meeting wonderful, helpful people. More in a day or so. From the road... Bob & Lisa Oh, here's the wife out front of Dinty Moors in Colorado. Interesting spelling on sign... food is down home good. Located on one of the best rides in Colorado.... and we are loaded to the gills. Delivering a 5.1 surround system to my daughter in Branson. Then we will be 100+ lbs. lighter and contained within the trailer. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b121/trimster/DintyMooresSm.jpg
