I don't pull a camper but I pull a trailer with a campsite in it. I forget it's there, And, Dang that camper costs more than both of my Ventures did combined!
-
That absolutely could be the source of your problem. You can just get rid of those hoses and cap the ports on the heads. I ran my '84 with the YICS ports capped off for years.

Motorcycle camping is still my favorite style of road tripping. Just don't get the time much to do more than the occasional overnight trip these days. In my youth, I would pack light. A GI fart sack and a tarp would be my entire set up. These days we pull a trailer with the tent, air mattresses, table/chairs, awning, camp stove, field kithcen kit with manual espresso machine, etc. 1st world roughing it!

Don, So sorry to hear the cancer is back. Kris and I will have you in our prayers, as always. I chalk the recent lack of activity here up to the weather and the COVID stupidity. We are still around and I check the forum several times a day. Just not doing any riding lately. Here's hoping all goes well for you.

I am not too far from you in Ravenna, OH. I'd be happy to help. I brought an '83 back to life once. I could probably help you do the same.

RSV Light Bar on eBay
luvmy40 replied to luvmy40's topic in Links to Classifieds, Craigslist, Ebay, Sales, Etc.
Not sure what you are asking. I thought there was an OEM Gen2 light bar on ebay. I was wrong, it is an aftermarket bar. -
I chased this rabbit on my '83. In the end, I replaced 3 coils, the plug wires and caps and went to the Ignitech CDI. My advice would be to get the Ignitech module, new plug wire and NGK cap/boots, and Ohm out the coils by them selves. If it only misses under load, the coils may Ohm out OK but but arc out through broke down insulation. Fire her up in the dark and mist some water on the coils(easier said than done, I know) and look for fireworks. Regardless of whether you replace the CDI or not, relocate it to the top of the air box for ease of access and better cooling and water protection.

If it's firing when the enricher is engaged but drops out when the enricher is disengaged, you most likely have a clogged idle jet.

These may be a bit too bulky, but I thought I'd point them out just in case they might work for you. https://smile.amazon.com/Electop-Negative-Waterproof-Protection-Automotive/dp/B0838SYDBS/ref=sr_1_17_sspa?keywords=micro+fuse+block&qid=1638016952&sr=8-17-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFYRjJXNjZHQ1hEODkmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA5NDE2OTUyUTBTMjU0UUhGVFlUJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA2MzI3NzlKNDNaR1JCNTRRWlAmd2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9tdGYmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl https://smile.amazon.com/Terminal-Negative-Indicator-Waterpoof-Automotive/dp/B07HDYQMB5/ref=sxin_15_pa_sp_search_thematic_sspa?cv_ct_cx=micro%2Bfuse%2Bblock&keywords=micro%2Bfuse%2Bblock&pd_rd_i=B07HDYQMB5&pd_rd_r=20d2e710-74c8-4f3f-966c-b5c29504086b&pd_rd_w=L6Ju3&pd_rd_wg=7hLII&pf_rd_p=fb401969-1dca-4736-bb17-fd1d356224ef&pf_rd_r=0XW0QFD2C6ES2HM6M649&qid=1638016952&sr=1-3-a73d1c8c-2fd2-4f19-aa41-2df022bcb241-spons&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFYRjJXNjZHQ1hEODkmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA5NTE5MjIxRTJKU1g2Mk83S0MmZW5jcnlwdGVkQWRJZD1BMDAxMDAzNFBHWFVVNDRSQ0c5QiZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX3NlYXJjaF90aGVtYXRpYyZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU&th=1 https://smile.amazon.com/Deyooxi-Circuit-Indicator-Waterpoof-Automotive/dp/B08H4Q9SYR/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?keywords=micro%2Bfuse%2Bblock&qid=1638016952&sr=8-2-spons&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFYRjJXNjZHQ1hEODkmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA5NDE2OTUyUTBTMjU0UUhGVFlUJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA0NzAzNTQzUDlEM0NRNUY5VTRaJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ&th=1

No Main/Ignition Power
luvmy40 replied to Du-Rron's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Which is why the only business I do in CA is with the federal Govt. That in itself is a questionable point. I'd rather not deal with the Feds in any way either, but Govt. contracts are a huge % of my service contracts. -
https://www.ebay.com/itm/274926122624?fits=Make%3AYamaha&hash=item4002dfb680:g:WgkAAOSwskthLFWJ I don't remember who was looking for a light bar, I do remember there being none on eBay at the time. There is one posted now. ETA: Oops, looks like this aftermarket after all.

You do need to use a smart type maintainer for the AGM batteries. The old school maintainers were just trickle chargers with no true float function. They just ran at a low amperage constantly. I've also been told that the older chargers for lead/acid batteries don't have a high enough voltage output to fully charge an AGM battery, but I've no idea if this is true or urban legend.

The first, and only time I had the good fortune to talk with Jim, he magically found the trim screw for The Beast that no one else could find. It had been lost in Don's driveway during MD. At least 6 of us had been scouring the area to no avail. I watched Jim walking down the driveway towards the search party when he reached down to pick something up, 40 feet from where I thought the screw might have dropped. He casually walked by and handed me my missing screw. Eagle Eye! I don't think he was even aware that we all were looking for that screw! It sucks that we will never talk again. RIP Jim.

Clutch slave
luvmy40 replied to Bruce Bakken's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
STOP!!!! That is a bleeder valve for the clutch slave cylinder. DO NOT PUMP GREASE IN TO IT!!!!! Unless you have removed the slave cylinder for rebuild and cannot get it apart. -
2006 Venture Choke
luvmy40 replied to Blackcherry 06's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Not sure what the norm is. Mine wants to pull back but if I hold it out for a few seconds, it usually stays engaged until I touch the throttle. -
Yes indeed! That Black Cherry POPS after a quick wipe down with a wash and wax spray. I always get comments about my "Custom Paint"

Hello Daniel! The '83 is the best of the bunch from a performance standing, IMHO. Fastest, lightest, most nimble, versatile and great looking to boot. I am always looking for a replacement for The Beast (my first Venture, a black '83 standard). I, one day hope to have all 4 Venture iterations in my garage. That is, once I build a garage big enough to house them! Where are you crewing? My son is a deck hand(pushing for pilot) on a tow boat on the Ohio River.

Unable to sync carb
luvmy40 replied to megablok's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
In the future, bench sync with a strip of business card stock or a feeler gauge to start with the butterfy valves all at the same position. -
https://www.ebay.com/itm/350471381216?hash=item5199b8e0e0:g:VJ4AAMXQJRhRZZNU We have a couple of these. Don't use them often, but they work well and would fit nicely under a half shell.

The idle circuit is the smallest jet that passes fuel when the throttle plate is closed. It is the jet that supplies the fuel to the mixture you are adjusting with the idle mixture screw. Having that mixture too lean could also cause a stumble off idle. The idle mixture needs to be rich enough to keep up with the sudden in rush of air when the throttle plate opens.

Oil in the cooling system
luvmy40 replied to bluebird's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Most likely the Twinkie gasket.
