  1. Changed the oil and filter on the '06 and considered, briefly giving her a bath. Nah, she'll just get dusty again tomorrow!😁
  2. Well, you beat me to it! I was going suggest Ohming out the coils and trimming the plug wires back. Ya' got the go, now check the whoa! Make sure your brakes are up to snuff and the tread is good. Don't just look at tread depth, check the date code of the tires. I never run a motorcycle tire more that 4 years, the rubber compound starts breaking down and they can get real slick. Also, when looking at the brakes, inspect the lines and hoses for swelling and cracking. There may not be a leak, but the old rubber brake lines will start to swell up when applying the breaks and cause pressure loss, thus loss of braking capability.
  3. Yep, difinitely missing 2 bangs. These machines sing like a sewing machine when hitting on all 4 and synced up.
  4. Are you bench synced? Did you set all the idle mix screws to the same start point? Did you ceck to make sure all of the idle mix screw parts are there and installed in the correct order? Did you set the fuel level in the bowls? I would also hghly recommend relocating the CDI to the top of the air box when you replace the coils. It will be much cooler and more protedcted from the elements there. I would also recommend updating the fuse block. Keep in mind also, these bikes will not run right with air box open. They will idle, kind of, but bog and choke with any throttle. Hanging throttle, stuttering/bogging on wind up, back fire on decel are all indicators of the carbs being out of sync. Of course they can also indicate other problems, but the sync is the most likely culprit.
  5. I don't think I've ever heard of altitude casuing floats to stick. I have heard, and seen carbs needing to adjusted for higher altitudes.
  6. I would look at this very closely. I was wrong in my original post. This is NOT a factory light bar. There have been many posts about these after market running lights not fitting the RSV even though they claim to fit.
  7. New battery, aired up the tires and got my first ride this season in today.
  8. It's hard to tell from streaming vid/audio sometimes, but that last bit sounds like your only hitting on 2 cylinders. Even on 3 cylinders these old girls sound pretty smooth.
  9. According to the dash indicators, the red light is telling you your battery water is low and brake fluid is low. I can't remember if that is the front or rear MC sensor. I'd recommend investing some $ in quality parts for the carbs and do a complete rebuild.Mike Eykamp- a.k.a. The Diamond Cut Guy used to sell a rebuilt carb swap at a reasonable price. Still expensive, but considering the parts and labor involved, very reasonable. You also might want to consider an after market CDI from Ignitech. Worth every penny.
  10. I'd lay short odds you only hitting on 3 cylinders. My 83 was only running on 3, sometimes 2 when I got her and she had plenty of power and sounde pretty good. I could not beleive the difference when I got all four firing.
  11. I always try to have at least two different sources of technical data. I.e., the factory service manual and a Haynes or Chiltons manual. You'd be surprized by how many mistakes and typos there are in factory service manuals. I'm fairly certain that one of the Venture Yamaha Factory Service Manuals has the carb sync procedure wrong. Or it might have been the valve clearance check procedure, anyway, what ever!
  12. DON"T BUY CHINESE GASKETS!!!!!! Probably should stay away from Chinese slides as well.
  13. The symptoms as described are classic loose connection at the the battery. Of course, it could be anywhere in the main up to the starter. Or at the frame connection of the battery ground. But that description is almost always a loose battery connection. Don't know how the sound system would react though.
  14. I need something for the left side seat nut that lets me get a hold on it. I have no feeling in my left hand finger tips and that, combined with the valve cover heat deflector (or whatever purpose it serves) means I fight to get that nut started and end up dropping it 100 times before I call my wife to get it started. I have no problem with the right side nut. I'm sure the real problem is with the nut on my shoulders.😜
  15. No pics right now. I'm on the road for work. This is the first try at straw bale gardening. It's realy our first try at gardening at all. We've planted leeks, cucumbers, radishes, cabage, turnips, kohlrabi, onions, zuchini, several varieties of peppers and have tomatos and green beans up next. I'm sure there's more that I'm thinking of.
  16. You have a working key? Take it to home depot, Ace Hardware or a lock shop. They can cut a key with it as the template. Unless you are talking about the 2018+ Star Venture key fob crap.
  17. My wife and I are doing a straw bale garden this year. 15 bales, but I think we'll double that next year. I made the green house with 1/2" PVC and 3 mill visqueen. About 12' x 12'.
  18. Found the Grass Hopper on ebay https://www.ebay.com/itm/222422682006?var=521291120142&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item33c96cc996:g:tAsAAOSw2gxYsw4S&amdata=enc%3AAQAGAAAA8FjPaz5pQlfnRPr4GF8dl3mkgl6CXcxTVzleEF1kcApWewZO671wgo%2B2FQ84n3Vobozn1mFLp4QXXGSVIKQDt9tRPJ6LbOu%2FlIsHr5RFkahaW0tmbeXfTThIAM%2FnCqjBvs%2FKvMuw1b6X9fBBGx6ZrJVHdp6QGW%2Fc9XRzj%2FZujmQ8DcXprGMG4ie32NjAvwmsRWpuZKdWRbpauYckJEm94Zl2lklZ0if3lBfVte%2FvrDzd6S6rIzzh9uGSvAFJoSUIyYrVtQ8h2KUm5gn8KZtQRg5N8qMSdpZTKEtVP%2FboqML%2B%2BR8ylWCvdXyViG1EXyjTiQ%3D%3D|tkp%3ABFBMmr-g9IZg
  19. I've got a ChiCom knock off of this style https://www.amazon.com/Adjustable-Drivers-Backrest-Yamaha-Venture/dp/B0075D251C That you can have for $20.00 + shipping Grass Hopper Limited used to make one. It's what I have now and I love it. I did not have any luck finding one now though.
  20. We pull a trailer so there's a bit more cargo space. We have a small, butane single burner, picked up from a restaurant supply store. Cheap, small and easy to pack. The trailer gives the luxury of taking some actual pots and pans, but a metal army mess kit would be more that enough for roughing it.
