Carb sliders…is this normal? New to carbs sorry.
luvmy40 replied to Pasta Burner's topic in Watering Hole
PB, Earl ain't wrong here. Fix these carbs right, and you will be very pleasantly surprised with the outcome. You might be able to save a few $ with aftermarket parts from the linked suppliers, and if you are comfortable with the work involved, I am sure they are high quality. But, factory, drop in replacements at the price Earl is offering would be hard to beat. -
2nd Generation acceleration
luvmy40 replied to JoeSense's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The '83 is far more snappy out of the hole than the Gen 2. The '83 is by far the fastest, most nimble bike of the family and, one might even argue, of it's class across the board. However, the Gen2 is far from a pig. It should out perform any but the top performance HDs. Is your engine bogging on the hole shot or is your clutch slipping? Clutch slippage is a universal problem with the stock Gen2 and there are a few clutch upgrade kits available. Skydoc_17 sells a great clutch upgrade kit at a competitive price. There is also a Barnett kit out there. I'd start by verifying you are firing on all 4 cylinders then a carb sync. -
Refrigeration is certainly less physically intense than framing or loading roofs!👷♂️ Unfortunately, I wind up doing new construction as much as service and quite often end up hand carrying insulated box panels and muscleing 200+ lb. condensing units up stairs and the like.

We had a place in Craig Beach for 20 years or so. Just moved to Ravenna's historic district.

DJ, I am only 30 minutes from Youngstown. Let me know if I can help.

It looks like it mounts exactly like the Grasshopper back rest. Take the drivers seat off, remove the pillion seat mounting bolts and bolt the back rest over the pillion bracket. I needed longer bolts when I did my Grasshopper, the factory bolts were just a bit too short. Your's being an after market seat, may already have longer bolts. 50/50 chance.

Loose throttle / cable

You don't have to buy Kuryakyn, there are many copies that perform just as well. I've had both and could not detect any difference in feel or performance. I can tell you the design is spectacular and I will never own a bike that does not have these grips. -

Is it cutting out completely or just going up and down in volume? Have you tried adjusting the sensitivity of the level increase setting? Not sure what the manual calls it, but the setting that increases the volume in relation to ambient noise.

It would be easier to answer if we knew which version Venture you are talking about. However, It might be an anti vibration weight.

It's pretty simple, actually. Run the carbs dry or drain the bowls. Then, using a syringe fill the carbs to over flowing with the car cleaner of your choice and let them soak as long as you feel is safe based on the aggressiveness of your carb cleaner. The process is not guaranteed, but it does give you the chance to clean the carbs up internally at least to a small degree without pulling them off the bike. The biggest problem with this type of passive cleaning is that the carb cleaner can't clean what it doesn't touch. It is absolutely worth a try. It might fix you right up and save many hours of tearing thigs apart and putting them back together.

Poor MPG and top end performance.
luvmy40 replied to Pasta Burner's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If you go with dial gauges, get liquid damped gauges and make sure to install restrictors at the far end of the hoses. I've had the Morgan Carbtune Pro for many, many years and it just works. You might need to clean the rods and channels if you get any contamination in there. It's not a dificult job. -
I hade COVID19 back in Dec. 2019, confirmed with anitibodies test. This was long before anyone(except Anthony Fauci) had even heard of COVID19. I have been exposed to COVID19 several times since then and always tested negative for infection. I should be forced to take an inadequately tested, experimental"vaccine"(it's not a true vaccine), with the possibility of severe side effects, including death when I have more/better antibodies to the infection than the "vaccine" provides? Not in this lifetime.

Typhoid fever has, concervatively a 20% death rate. Not even close to an apt comparison.

Definitely not normal! The Gen 1's will pull hard to and past red line(no rev limiter). I've had my '83 over the ton many times. She did not get great mileage, 34-36 mpg on the best days, but I really rode her like I stole her more often than not. My '86 is almost as fast but not as quick, if that makes sense. She gets closer to 40 mpg, but I also didn't tend to push the red line as hard on her. You should be able to cruise at 65 mph, drop a gear or 2, go WOT and hold on for dear life. -
Is this how I drain my oil?

This where a vacuum bleeder setup really shines. Hose to the bleeder valve from the vac trap. Open the MC, Pull a good deep vacuum, Crack the bleeder valve and just add fresh fluid to the MC as the vacuum trap fills up.

I have given up hope on ever finding an honest CL or eBay listing for a Venture. Stick with buying from VR members! I've not had any problems with any of the purchases I've made from this bunch.

Use some High Tack or Indian Head gasket sealer to stick them to the covers. I've never changed the breather hose, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be a good idea. -
I hauled my '06 down to Youngstown, OH from Niagara Falls with no strap on the rear and did not move an inch. Like I said, rough roads possible? Tie the rear wheel down.

Praying for a speedy recovery!

I have always had good luck just using a 24" cheater or breaker bar on the drain plug and oil filter bolt.
