  1. I got some time in the saddle with my '86. First time in a couple years. I'd forgotten what a nice ride she is!
  2. Every gen 1 Venture I've seen has had air suspension front and back from the factory. The Royal had the CLASS controls, the standard had manual fill and dampener.
  3. https://www.clearviewshields.com/motorcycle-windshields/yamaha/yamaha-touring/royal-star-venture-shields/ The link above is to the Clearview RSV page. I was just pricing these yesterday.
  4. There are no points. The CDI uses a pick up coil to trigger the spark.
  5. If it does not have the CLASS system(compressor and controler) then the front suspension has a schrader fitting on steering head next to the ignition lock. DO NOT USE AN AIR COMPRESSOR TO ADJUST FRONT SUSPENSION!!!!! The rear suspension has a schrader fitting and a damping adjustment knob below the seat on the left side to the rear of the side cover.
  6. Also, check with your local Yamaha Dealer. My local can usually get me any parts still available through Yamaha in a day or two.
  7. I hear the entire procedure has been revamped, at enormous cost for the new Rocket 3 R and GT models The power is now infused at a quantum level.
  8. I think "Hot shot" is referring to The Pucster's Shot Gun method. Basically, run the carbs dry(petcock off) and fill the carbs with Berrymans or Seafoam with a syringe through the drain valves. Let this sit for a bit and then ride it like you stole it.
  9. I changed my driver's back rest out. I went from a Chinese eBay special to an American made eBay special. The Chinese rest was adjustable but could not be easily removed, and I could never dial in the adjustment. The Grasshopper, LTD back rest is not adjustable but it comes on and off easily and quickly. The default position works pretty darn well for me too.
  10. I had planned on BlueTooth upgrade but I found just running a short aux audio cable works just fine to connect my Galaxy. Not quite as convenient but a lot cheaper and easier on the front end. This phone mount works perfectly and is solid as a rock. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B088FNVGWP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  11. Great news! When my light quit the first time, I was afraid that it was that aux. lighting module. In my case, some contact cleaner and a little synthetic grease and I was golden.
  12. The head light not working points to the start button. I ran into that with both my '83 and my '86, though it did not keep me from starting. I'd still bet the starter not engaging and the light being inop. are connected at the start button contacts.
  13. It was just posted up by another member that Yamaha has a complete fix in process for the 2018 Nav/GPS issue. Whether that will be extended to second owners may or may not depend on whether it is sold through a dealership. I don't know if this is being considered a recall or not. I can't speak to any other changes from 2018 to 2020.
  14. Where are you in OH? I'm always happy to help. I'm in Ravenna now.
  15. It's about freaking time! How many appeals before it gets to the SCOTUS?
  16. Indeed. That is what I meant and have since corrected my post.
  17. Even if the other car is speeding, if they can pass you on the right(on a 4 lane highway) you are in the wrong lane. I suppose the laws may be different from state to state, but most places the left lane is for passing only.
  18. Happy to help in any way. Just don't leave us hanging. Everyone here loves to see the progression of this kind of project. Living vicariously through others and all that.
  19. My son attended the MMI in Phoenix and took the Yamaha Factory Certification course. He finished either first or second in his class, not sure which. He was hired by a motor sports shop in Texas(multiple mfg.) through the placement program before graduating. They had him doing prep on bikes from all mfg. Then they had him servicing generators from the oil fields. All stuff he had never seen before. much less been trained on. That lasted a couple weeks before they told him he wasn't hitting the book time and they had to let him go. He went from there to another Texas shop a couple hundred miles away and it was the same story. He then found out the owners were brothers. When He came back to Ohio he could not find any work at any Yamaha dealerships or any of the multi company power sports shops. He's working on a tow boat on the Ohio river these days.
  20. Sounds like a plan to me. I don't get to Utah very often, but I do have a good customer in BYU, so it's a possibility. Is your moniker a self deprecating comment on your cooking skills or do you own a Moto Guzzi?
  21. Sitting in North Syracuse, enjoying a Southern Tier Nitro Iced Macchiato! Wow! What a great Beer!
  22. Pull the electrical connector on the temp sending unit and clean it up. Betcha' there'sa good bit of corrosion there.
  23. If the bike will go up on the center stand, the frame is not broken. That doesn't mean it won't break later. You cant see the rust issue as it rust from the inside out. At he very least, you will need new brake lines and rebuild kits for the MCs and calipers. I'd bet the tires are too old to trust, even if they have good tread. The carbs will likely need cleaned at the very least and will probably need rebuilt. If she starts up and idles with no choke, you are probably OK. Keep in mind, these bikes sound good and will still feel powerful running on three cylinders.
  24. The Reda cans have been out of stock for a couple years now. I have not checked at any HD dealers but a local performance shop that used to sell them said they can't get them any more.
