  1. I have not "Rated" the new look, but just like every other time a forum I frequent made changes, I hate the new format. And, just like every other time, I will get used to it and be happy again! Change is inevitible and usually a good thing. That doesn't make it any easier to take at first, but that's just my stuborn streak raising it's ugly head.

  5. Does anybody remember the Ford SUV that was rolling over all the time? IIRC, that was found to be due the reccommended tire pressure from Ford being way too low. Any kind of sudden latteral control change at medium+ velocity resulted in the tires peeling off the rims and the truck rolling. Huge lawsuit over that one!
  6. I think this in response to one poster commenting that he was surprised at the pressure increase in the rear tire after riding. This is just an assurance that as long as you set the pressure cold at OR BELOW the tire Mfg. Max Pressure spec. you are safe as they account for heat expasnion when designing the tire.
  7. I picked up a couple pieces of 2.5" expandable aluminum duct from amazon a few years ago. They scrunch down to about 4 feet long for storage and extend to a bit over 8 feet long. I just crack the door enough to stick them out and hang a beach towel to block the draft. It works well enough. I've never left it running like that for more than a few minutes but I've done that a dozen or more times over a couple winters with no issues.

  11. I seem to recall there being a set of factory RSV slip ons in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum. I picked up a cheap pair of HD take offs from a local performance shop when I thought I might have a bad muffler. Turned out to be a crack in the header pipe right after the rear heat shield. Muffler repair tape and heavy duty hose clamp fixed it right up so I didn't try the HD mufflers. I'll keep them for emergency spares.
  12. There may be a plastic suiteable for making this tool. I would imagine that there definitely is a suiteable plastic. It's probably not going to be 3 D printable. 3 D printers have come a long way in a few years and they are capable of some pretty fantastic production, but the extrusion type makes pieces that look nice and are fairly sturdy but they would never stand up to the pressure and friction involved with compressing the valve springs of the Venture. Not to mention the contact with petroleaum lubricants. There might be a Resin material for the resin type 3 D printers that would work, I don't know, but I doubt it.
  13. It would have to be printed with a metal printer which are still far out of the hobbyist price point. There are several 3 D Metal print services available, but that tool design may be patented. They probably also have a minimum run threshold. Still, it might be worth looking into.

  15. You are not wrong, but the slow down is once the item leaves the USPS hands. I once had a package of competition shooting gear bound for South America(can't remember which country)leave our southern border and wind up in Budapest 2 months later. It did finally make it top it's destination, 6 months after I posted it. I used to send 150-200 small packages a month. Over 7 years, I can count on one hand the number that were lost or damaged. This is not to say there are not major problems in the USPS, but they are not wide spread. There are problem areas where mail gets stashed for weeks or months. There are individual post masters and managers that like to pad their numbers by shifting mail around and holding things back for various reasons that most have to do with the "Number De' jour" E.g., some bean counter picked a specific statistic to focus on so everything else is ignored, until that number meets his satisfaction. Then they pick another stat. and the other is forgotten. Like I said, purposefully poor management.
  16. I worked for the USPS for 12 years. The Postal Service does a darn fine job about 90% percent of the time in spite of the Managements best efforts to screw things up. Stop and think about the shear volume of mail on daily basis. It's mind boggling. The management statement was not a joke. I firmly believe that postal management actively tries to sabotage the system. I can't say why they are doing it, but in 12 years I never saw management make a good decision at any level. The law of averages says that even a bad manager would get something right once in a while. As far as the USPS and the political situation, the Postal management and rank and file in general are Democrats to the death. The few conservative postal workers hide in the shadows and keep their mouths shut, or they raise hell for 12 years and walk away from the madness.

  19. So, it's un saleable as is except for parts. I'd start at the top and strip it down till I found the problem, then determine if it's repaiarable and weigh the repair cost against any possible sale value as a running repaired engine. If you decide to scrap it or part it out at that point you are only out some time and I'd bet you will learn a lot in the process. Parting it out will net more $ than an outright sale, but it could take years to get rid of everything. As was stated above, these engines don't break often.

  22. Don't do anything throttle related. Keep the idle at 1000-1100 rpm. Just give a half a squeeze at a time to to the vac pump. I've done this test without a vac pump, just a vacuum from my mouth. If you see any vacuum on the gauge and don't see a change in rpm, there is probably an issue with the boost sensor. Caveat: there probably is a threshold point before the boost sensor has an effect. I just don't know what that threshold is.
  23. Testing the boost sensor is actually quite simple. Pull the vac line from the boost sensor off of whatever carb or manifold port it is attached to. Connect it to a manual vacuum pump(Mighty Vac, etc.) get the bike idling smoothly and then pull a slight vacuum with the manual pump. Be careful as you can damage the diaphragm if you pull too much vacuum. If the idle doesn't change, you either have a bad hose or a bad boost sensor, though if you can see the vacuum on the pump gauge, that pretty much eliminates the hose as the culprit.

Bitter sweet is not the right term. I don't know if there is a word that can describe what I feel on this day. Every year for the last 19. Righteous Indignation? Close. Disbelief? Unfortunately, yes. I am disheartened to know that there are those, here in my Homeland that do not remember 9/11/2001 with Moral Outrage. In fact there are members of our legislature that think of that date date as a great day. It makes me want to vomit. At the risk of crossing a line, I will turn the Left's words around and beg America to WAKE UP! WAKE UP and see what is going on, and has been going on for a very long time.
