The '86 is actually the Sable Brown/Light Birch color scheme. After putting a couple hundred miles on the pillow top seat, I have ordered a rider's back rest and am considering whether or not Beauty is going to see enough road time to justify keeping both. BTW, I ordered Earl's clutch upgrade kit and friction plates. I figure at 98k mi. It'd be foolish to not replace the discs when I do the upgrade.

Another Cruise Control Issue 2006 RSV

I thought so. I couldn't find anything in the Clymer manual about adjusting the speedo. -
Another Cruise Control Issue 2006 RSV
luvmy40 replied to luvmy40's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Here's what I found on the ride home. Cruise on all three lights come on then go out. When I get into 4th gear and 30mph the bottom light comes on. When I press the set rocker, the set light comes on. There is a slight delay and then the cruise kicks in and accelerates to set point but then continues to accelerate. It accelerates smoothly up to 80mph indicated then kind of surges a bit but never goes over 80mph or disengages. The decelerate rocker works but as soon as you release it she accelerates right back up to 80mph. the clutch switch, front brake switch, rear brake switch and cancel button all cancel the cruise control. Withe the reset light lit, the reset button does nothing. The Clymer manual does have the onboard diagnostic procedure but it is a bit confusing on one point. At one point it says to press and hold the cancel button while alternately pressing the set/reset buttons. Then it says you should have rocked the cancel button 4 times. This seems contradictory to me. Has anyone run this diagnostic before? Can you clarify this for me? -
Another Cruise Control Issue 2006 RSV

I have that same thing happening with my '86. The '06 feels like it engages with little or no delay but then starts accelerating. I'll play around with it on the trip home this afternoon and see if it ever stops accelerating and holds stead at any speed. -
Another Cruise Control Issue 2006 RSV

Yes, second gen. RSV The speedo is adjustable via onboard system? I thought a DRD or speedo healer was necessary to adjust for the offset. I have the Clymer's maint manual but not the factor service manual. I'll take a look to see if the speedo tests are in the Clymer's book. -
2006 RSV I ran a search for cruise control issues but did not see this particular problem mentioned in any of 20 or 30 that I read through. The bike is new to me and I have not done any digging into this yet. When the cruise control is enabled and I am in the right gear and above the minimum speed, I hit the "set" button, the proper indicator lights up and it feels like it engages. Then in a second or so, the bike starts to accelerate on it's own. Any idea what the likely issue is?

Well, at least I didn't unknowingly break King Cuomo's executive order when I picked up the '06!

Any idea where to find this sanction list?

I went back to the OEM pillow top seat today. I don't hate the Corbin, but Kris does. Happy wife = happy life! I also went back to the OEM height wind screen. With the shorty screen, the eddies are ripping my shades off at anything above 55 mph. I will have to do the clutch upgrade soon as well. She's fine for normal running but if I down shift and twist her tail the RPMs go through the roof and the rear tire slowly catches up. I'm not complaining. With nearly 100k miles on the clock, a new set of clutches is minor. Kent told me the valves have never been serviced, on the recommendation of his service shop and she starts right up and idles smooth with only a minute or so of choke from cold and none needed after sitting for an hour an a half.

I cannot for the life of me find where I can add the 2006 RSV to my avatar tags. It has to be in "settings", right? HELP!

HA!, My wife joked that we should ride the 2006 and trailer her Vento 250.
-
So, I now have a very serious decision to make; Do I ride this to The Rally at the Shores? Or, do I ride this to The Rally at the Shores?

Glad to see you walked away. But That just sucks! I have come to the studied conclusion that 90% of the drivers on the road could not care less if they kill someone. I see a complete disregard for safety from nearly every car, truck and yes a lot of motorcycle operators on a daily basis. Then there are the people who are not physically capable of driving safely who still manage to keep a drivers license. Don't even get me started on the statistics where uninsured and unlicensed violations are concerned!

I have a Diamond Custom on my '86 Gen 1 and had that same seat on my '83 as well. I can attest to the quality of the seat and the look is fantastic. It is quite comfortable but a bit harder than the stock Gen 1 seat. Keep in mind, I am comparing it to 30+ year old seats that had many many miles on them. The gen 1 Diamond saddle has a significantly higher lumbar rise for the driver and a larger pillion pad that slopes just slightly back into the passenger back rest. It's a well thought out design and, IMHO worth more than they charge. The one thing I would warn about is being absolutely honest with your self about your measurements when you order. I based my statements on the way I sat on my "83 and did not take into account the fact that my suspension was sub par. I told the maker(I can't remember his name, but he is a super nice guy) that I could just barely flat foot my '83 from the saddle and he made my new seat based on that. With new progressive springs and the proper air pressure in the rear, the new seat is just a tad taller than I would like. $0.02, YMMV

Well, that makes sense.

Enlighten me. What's a Nexan?

I just put a deposit down on a 2006 RSV from fitmedic. We have to hammer out the logistics of me taking physical possession, but it's a done deal in my mind. I've already started making plans to Darkside her and possible lower her as well... Anyone know where I can get a deal on a Sleepy Time trailer?

NICE! I didn't catch if you said you're going to make Rally at the Shores?

1984 yamaha venture royale

IIRC, The tachometer reads the #2 cylinder ignition signal. The red light could be any of the startup checks. The LCD display should tell you which. -
hydraulic hose replacment/repair
luvmy40 replied to revpat's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
revpat, We also have a forum Brother who does hydraulic hoses, skydoc_17. Earl is one heck of a nice feller' and a stand up kind of guy. If we were talking about a 1st Gen, I'd tell you to look at the steel line that runs between the two hoses down the frame tube on the left side. I'm not sure if the Gen 2 bikes are configured that way. -
Huh, I have a heck-of-a time getting my '83 on the center stand. I can do it but it's fight. My '86 pops right up like it's on springs. No problem at all.

If it fell on the right side, take a close look at the water pump elbow. It's very close to the engine guard and it will crack if the guard gets bent even a little. Other than that it's going to be body damage for the mos part. Bags, Mirrors, etc.
