please help, what would you do?
luvmy40 replied to made2care's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
IFRC, They actually TEE together and are both connected to the crank case vent. I may be wrong. I'm on the road and can't go look at The Beast to verify. If you are going to leave the filter in place, you could cap both ports. -
How do you drain the carb bowls?
luvmy40 replied to safetyguy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
That's not actually the drain plug. The drain plug is a Cross Tip screw. IFRC, it's on the right hand side of the carb and does take a longer driver to get at it. It's recessed a bit in the casting. You don't need to remove it, just turn it out a couple turns. It's basically a blunt needle valve. Be careful not to over tighten it. You can smash the seat and cause a leak. -
Small C clip for enrichner trigger rod
luvmy40 replied to jfman's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I picked up an assortment of small e clips from a local RC Race shop. The enricher rod uses one of the larger ones in that set. -

The ports should connect to to the vent on the Twinky between the jugs on the top of the crank case. The air system is an engineered restriction and works best when all the covers are in place. -

I really have no way of knowing if your issue is CDI related but can highly recommend the IGNITECH TCIP4 with connector adapter for your Gen1, MK1 Venture. Email ignitech@ignitech.cz and give them your bikes specs and ask for a quote. It's well under $300.00 -
I'm in NE Ohio and ride as long as the roads are clear. I wear a set of cold weather gear from XElement bought from Leatherup.com. The set I have is about 10 years old so it may not be available anymore. I think I paid around $150 for the jacket and pants together. I wear a full face modular helmet and a full face gator when it's below 35 deg. or so. I did spend a good amount of $ on a pair of water proof Joe Rocket insulated gloves and and boots. I might consider going heated when I replace the gloves and boots.

WW2 Navajo Indian Code Talker display in Kayenta Arizona!!
luvmy40 replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
There ain't no feed store in Pagosa Springs! This is an inside family joke and it tickles me that you found our little secret! I will definitely add the Code Talker display and the Wolf Creek run to bucket list. -

No new pics as the little guy still looks exactly like the last pic. We did get a driving light bar, Tomb Stone tail light, rear turn signals, new hand controls, including a clutch perch w/ clutch interlock switch(which was not present originally) and a new front break lever w/MC. Kris is getting the wiring in order and I'm working on modifying the control pods. We could not find controls for 1" bars that had a single indicator switch in the left pod anywhere so I ordered a set for 7/8" bars and machined the "journals" to fit the 1" bars. Now I'm working making the throttle cable fit properly. Now I need to track down caliper rebuild kits for the Honda Rebel calipers and see if Earl will make us up some new brake lines. Then we need to start fixing the tins, most of which are actually plastic and getting them ready for paint. I'm thinking metallic emerald green and cream in a classic FLH two tone scheme.

Beauty and I are still here. The Beast is still in the family under my son's control now. I'm now looking to add a 2nd gen to the stable, though I'm not in any hurry.

Yesterday Went for a quick ride to a local custom shop shopping for parts for the Vento build that turned into a 100+ mile CTFW experience. Very good for the Soul.

Cruise control modification?
luvmy40 replied to SilveradoCA's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The Gen1, MK1 only has a neutral light, no gear position indicator. It may be that it was only the Standard model that has only the neutral light. Not for sure on that. I do know my '83 Standard just has the neutral light and my '86 Royale has the gear position indicator. -
Ask me how many times I had to take the Carbs off of The Beast:8:

Clutch woes
luvmy40 replied to Venturezach's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
PM skydoc_17. You might as well replace the rubber hoses in the clutch line and Earl (skydoc_17)makes a kit for that purpose. He will have the engine cover gaskets and the crush washer for you too. I'd also take a look at the area where the stator wires come through the front engine case and seal that up if it looks like it's leaking, and it probably is. I'd also invest in a cheap, Harbor Freight vacuum bleed pump. They take most of the hassle out of bleeding the clutch system. -
Sounds about right to me. The power band with the XVZ1300 is something like 4k-6.5K rpm. No need for a 6th gear, unless you have a need to cruise all day at 100+ MPH These old girls will run all day long at 6500 RPM with no problems at all.

The CLASS modules are the same for the MK1 and MK2 models. The water pump elbow should be the same as well, though I am not 100% certain of that. -
I put a set of the Kenda Kruz on The Beast for my son a month or so ago. The rear was a major pain to get the bead seated and it lost seal after a couple weeks. I'm not blaming the tire, but I've never had that happen before. I haven't been home long enough to take a look at it since it happened and the boy is too busy at work to anything with it. I'll be waiting to read your report on the Kendas!

Well, most of the kids on the crotch rockets are on their first bike with a learner's permit and the Wingers are all embarrassed that Beauty can beat them up and take their lunch money:stickpoke: But, Yes I always toss a low wave to a fellow enthusiast. Harley, Hyabusa, or Scooter. Two wheels and a power plant are the only requirements.

When you get everything done, you will have one of the best rides ever put on the road. The '83s cannot be beat by any other touring bike ever produced. Fast, nimble darned good looking, and(now) nearly bullet proof. There's not a stock Wing or any other Venture that can truly compete with the MK1, IMHO. If not for the second Gear issue and the frame problem, I would have never gone over to the MK2. -
I'm back in Connecticut for a few weeks so it will be a bit before I can look at anything. I'm just going by the way The Beast acted with the enricher engaged. She would start up at 1500 rpm or so on full enrichment and then the revs would climb steadily after 20 seconds or so and I could decrease enrichment to keep the rpms around 1500 until she idled at 1000rpm without enrichment. All this in about a minute or so.

My '83's compression was(is) in the 160-180 psi range across the board and she runs like a Beast! Not the greatest fuel economy, 32 MPG on the best days, but that's the only issue I ever had.
