  1. Yes, the Ventures have a clutch safety switch. They should start in gear, side stand up, clutch lever pulled.
  2. Technically, distilling alchohol for human consumption without the proper licsensing is illegal. I highly doubt the Revinuers are going to knock down your door if you make up a batch of whiskey for personal use. Do be careful, you need to discard a portion of the distillation as it contains methanol in small quantities and can be dangerous.
  3. Milk stouts have a lactose/lactic acid adjunct. Some chocolate stouts have a chocolate flavor added. Some just get a chocolaty flavor from the grain bill.
  4. Brewing an Imperial Milk Stout. First batch at the new abode. It has been far from smooth as we are still unboxing stuff and I could not find a couple key pieces of equipment. Fortunately, we are about 4 blocks from a very nice home brew supply house. Make Beer, Not War!
  5. it could be as simple as the port on the intake boot being clogged/blocked. It could be the carb is not seated in the intake boot. Any large leak after the carb. etc.
  6. It's not loose when the float is pushing it up into the seat.
  7. I'd highly recommend going with Skydoc_17's clutch kit. It gets rid of the half friction disc and has a stiffer spring. It just works.
  8. There are two mounting bolts just under the seat above the side bags. Remove them, lift the rear of the seat and slide it back an inch or so. There is a full service manual here: https://www.venturerider.org/forum/forum/81-manuals-guides-parts-diagrams-etc/
  9. That is a great looking ride right there! What you want to do with it is a whole lot of work to be done in an apartment parking lot. I'm sure it's doable, but seriously, I think you'd be better off riding and enjoying the RSTD while actively looking for a similar vintage Royal Star Venture. Sell the Tour Deluxe and buy the Venture. I also think the RSTD had some differences engine wise from the venture, one of which was not being balanced the same so as to give a more HD like feel to the ride. Which would mean your FrankenVenture would never be as smooth as the factory Venture. I could be wrong on this, it might have only been the case with a single model year or maybe it was only the tour classic. Anyway
  10. I'd suggest giving each cylinder a spritz of oil through the spark plug hole before turning it over as well. Fog them as Patch recommends. This will help keep the dry rings from scoring the cylinder wall.
  11. Stuck floats and/or bad float valves.
  12. Stuck floats, bad float valves, missing overflow tubing.
  13. Call Feezles in PA, https://www.feezleautowrecking.com/ Then look around on ebay for un mounted, used spares. When Kris got her "newish" Optima, it had the jack and fixaflat spare kit. Not even a pump with slime, just a can of fixaflat. We found a complete spare tire kit with mounting insert, jack, tire tool and spare donut at a very reasonable price from a scrap yard. The tire had never been mounted, everthing looked brand new. We paid less than half what a spare donut from Kia would have cost.
  14. I had no idea anything like that was available. I do try to learn something new everyday!
  15. There are two ways to change the rake of your bike. Raise or lower the rear end, or cut and bend the front of the frame.
  16. No first hand experience with this but, I have been told this could be the twinky gasket. Something about coolant in the oil but no oil in the coolant? Like I said, no real experience.
  17. Do not trust any dealership or bike shop top rebuild your carbs. They will screw you. Look up the Diamond Cut Guy, Mike Eykamp on this forum. He has a great reputation here, and that is saying something. I've never dealt with him but quite a few people who I hold in the highest regard have and will vouch for him.
  18. Good luck getting any Yamaha Dealer to service an '86 anything.
  19. I'd put the word out on that guy. He has no business working on anything, much less motorcycles!
  20. Well, after googling this(I dont have my facory service manual with me) I find there is some conflicting information out there. I think I remember the cylinders are numbered as follows: #1 = Left Rear, #2 = Left Front, #3 =Right Rear, #4 = Right Front and the firining order is 1-3-2-4 Puc or Patch will come along shortly and correct me if I'm wrong.
  21. Now you are asking a lot! Give me a minute to double check!
  22. IIRC, the tachometer is picking up on #2 cylinder ignition. I don't know if it sees the trigger signal(primary side) or the spark(secondry side), but either way, the tach acting like tells me there is something wrong with #2 ignition. Of course, it could just be the tach is disconnected.
  23. One bearded dad to another: I'd love to get together and talk bikes, beer and coffee. Not necessarily in that order. I'm in Ravenna, OH.
  24. Check Pinwall. I don't think they have a light bar right now but their stock changes pretty much daily.
  25. Dielectric grease is protectant, not a restorative. Make sure the connections are clean and tight, then some dielectric grease or other protective solution would not be a bad idea.
