  1. Happy Birthday Jeff. Enjoy your day. And a belated Happy Anniversary to you & Minin Larry
  2. Depends on whether you intend to keep the bike for yourself or resell it. If keeping the bike pick the one you really like. Haven't looked at resell prices for either bike so imo that's a toss up. If you keep one definately test ride them both. Larry
  3. Kat on the Volusia you will benifit with both performance & gas mileage by changing out both the pilot & main jets due to the larger air flow of the K&N filters. Later this weekend I'll send a detailed descricption of the jets you need from what I've done on those bikes in the past. Can Mike take off the carb and change the jets himself? Or do you think it may be beyound his abilities? Larry

Currently 49K on the clock. Larry
  5. Yep after doing a few jobs like this it becomes much much easier then the 1st time around. Even then some jobs still require the patience of a saint. Larry
  6. You only need to replace the rubber gaskets. RC, I would do what Don/Freebird suggests if you don't intend to do anything yourself or better yet see if there's anyone close by you who knows how to do the job. You could save some $$ and gain new riding friends. Larry
  7. I don't think disabling the AIS will improve gas mieage. On my bike I tried rejeting the carbs by going up one number for both mains and pilots. Gas milage suffered till I put the mains back to stock. I did leave the larger #17.5 pilots over the #15's in place and get a better low end off idle start. Plus I rarely need to choke the carbs either. Also before the rejet I'd get an occasional back fire in the mufflers on decellerating. Since going to the larger pilots that don't happen anymore. I'm running with K&N air filters & a 6" shortened set of stock mufflers. The rest of the bike is stock including the AIS system. Larry
  8. I've seen him around the Delphi RSV & TD forum as well recently. Larry
  9. That's almost as bad as a bike not starting cause someone left the kill switch on. :rotf:
  10. Not if you're mechanicly inclined but it does help if you have someone helping you that's done them before. It's still a good sized job due to taking stuff off and putting it all back on afterwards. You can do a check of the valves without the shim kit or tool, but if you find any off you either put it back together till you get the stuff needed or wait till you do get the tools & shims. Larry
  11. Eddie you running the Vette at Milan Dragway? It's been years since I've been there and at Detroit Dragway. Detroit Dragway's been closed a number of years now thou. Larry

  16. Be very careful what ya ask for Yammer Larry
  17. Nothing like that around here thou it is cold, 32*F . Well anyhow I bet Bob is just showing you guys some of the norths known features this time of year. Gotta share the love ya know. Don't let him take it with him or Big Tom will be in fits. Larry
  18. Thoughts & prayers for the family. Peace be with Steamers brother. Larry
  19. I used the Intense white ones on this link. They offer other versions as well. http://www.piaa.com/Bulbs/Bulbs-H3.html Larry
  20. I've been running the Piaa extra white anti-vibe bulbs since last spring. For me they've been the best bulb so far. Previously I was using the Sylvania Ultras and while they were good the Piaa's light the road better IMHO. Normal use for me is 95% of the time I'll be in low beam along with the OEM spot lights which also have the Piaa's in them. Both sets of lights are on at all times. Larry
  21. Great news there on the rotator cuff repairs John. Larry
  22. Yea weather here sure is weird for this time of year here in Michigan. No ride for me thou as I'm still waiting for cylinder seals to arrive so I can finish up this last weeks work. Better enjoy the ride cause the temps will be taking a dive back into the 30's starting tomorrow. Larry
  23. I'm pretty much in agreement with Don on time limits to do those various jobs. Having just done the valve job on both my bike and Ragtopgs69's bike (with him working on it too) It easily took 20 hrs doing them both. Some of the work done removing the panels etc was done as part of the valve adjustment procedure. Like changing a fuel filter, flushing the coolant system, spark plugs, checking float level while carbs were off, etc. Cleaning components of dirt & grim. We also checked and adjusted the steering head bearings using the method in the tech library here. Then reassembling everything once our parts come in. So ya shop labor is a killer due to the amount of time to do some of these jobs. Larry
