Update on bones

Man this has been a crazy one. Latest update on ribs as told to me by doc. 12 busted ribs and several of them multiple breaks. I have what is called a Flail chest. She was pretty upset that the horsepital in Ohio turned me loose like that but I'm glad they did before they killed me!! I have the utmost respect for most medical personal but these folks need to find a job. She is sending me to a specialist of some type. Claimed my breaks had them scratching their heads. I told you I wasn't normal!! Anyway it looks like they are making some progress. I'm getting tired of hurting. Bones won't heal if they are always moving around. 12 Ribs, shoulder and clavical. Thats enough!! Oh forgot about toe!! Pretty sure it was broke, just my opinion from the way it hurt and was swollen and turned all kinds of colors.

At least they are making some kind of progress and you have more info Dan.. Sounds like you should be in a body cast, sitting around getting fanned with palm branches while being fed grapes by some pretty nurses :big-grin-emoticon:

Just reading all this makes me :95:for you brother.. Wish there was something we could do but other than time and some better attention to detail by the medical practicioners is probably what its gonna take to get you back to a pain free YammerDan..

Prayers Up and Blessings down while you folks deal with all this..

Love ya brother!

I know normally docs don't do much for ribs...but 12? Sounds to me like a body cast would help a lot! Like you said, bones won't heal if they are moving around.

Geesh! Well, l hope the next docs to work on you can get a better handle on their "practice" of medicine! :buttkick:

I broke all of my ribs and the collar bone in a motorcycle accident. I had to tell them something was wrong with the collar bone. All they did was put my arm in a sling to prevent movement so that it would hopefully heal properly. It didn't. Anyway get use to sleeping on your back and don't sneeze, laugh or cough. But I'm sure you already know that. Will take about 3 months before your close to normal. What trick are you using to get out of bed in the morning? I would bring my left leg back to my chest, then clasp my hands around my knee holding my arms tight to my sides then rock myself up into a sitting position. Not something I ever want to go through again. :080402gudl_prv:

I sneezed this morning. Had avoided doing that so far but this was one of those that sneak up on you!!OUCH!!! And the Warden still helps me to do that trick in the morning after everything stiffens up. A little tug with arm around neck and I'm up.

Oh man, broken ribs are evil!

And the sucky part is there's not a lot to do about it except suffer through until they heal.

Just liem busted toes, except they're not (as) evil. All that can really be done is lash em to the next toe and wait for it to heal.

Best wishes for a speedy heal.

Dan,

If you're ready to ride ***** for a few miles, I'm more than willing to take you up to Summit Lake for some Trout fishing... Heck, those bones are already busted and all... I'm just saying...

Cain't pick bike up off sidestand Joe. Don't tell Warden I tried. And I hold fishing pole in left hand where all the ribs are broken. Be my luck a monster would hit and I would drop pole!!

I feel for you. Those ribs are going to take a long time to heal. I have done a lot of jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles in the last couple of months. When you go to the doc and he/she pulls out the stethoscope and tells you to take a deep breath...DON'T! Hope you heal fast and well.
