1. i just found out i got a cma group from orlando area are camping at my camp ground next week . anybody here belong to them ? or do i get to stalk them by my self , my luck it will be a bunch of HD and wing riders , but i can still talk their ears off and than out run them and upto the meet and eat , may be i'll be talked out before i get up there , that ain't gona happen :rotfl:
2. Took the day off yesterday to do some riding and to work on my sanity. It worked! As I rode around I decided I would check out some of the local bike shops to look at other bikes and in the process I managed to see three that I have only seen in photos or from afar. First stop was at a Triumph motorcycle dealer where they had quite a few reproductions (what they call their modern classics) of their old product line as well as many of the newer bikes in stock. The Triumph Tiger and the Rocket Classic (2 different versions) both caught my eye. Would love to test drive both and may do that next Spring. Dealer was very friendly and told me that if I wanted a test drive to come on back. I could see the Tiger as a nice second bike for commuting to work with and something to take out onto the rural roads to play with. I've already test drove a VStrom 650 and would like to try the bigger Strom and do a comparision to the Tiger. In terms of the Tiger vs the Rocket, I think I would be more interested in the Tiger over the Rocket as I already have two big bikes already with my Wing and Venture. The Rocket has no rear trunk option, just side bags, and the floor boards look skimpy (on some models you just get pegs)...but I would love to test drive the Rocket just to see how it handles. An 2.3 liter inline 3 cyclinder...man that is different...would love to see how it handles. The bike itself is lighter than the Venture and Wing, I think it's a little over 600 lbs. and when you sit on it the seat is big and comfortable and well balanced. It does sit lower to the ground than both the Wing and Venture however. Next stop was to a couple of Yamaha dealers to see if I could get a peek at the new Raider. No way...won't be in for a few months according to the sales force. I did however finally get to see a Blue and Black Venture up close and personal. What a great color, and I loved the speckled dash with that color combination. Also saw a Kawasaki Concours out on the floor. What a sharp looking bike, but for me, 6'...240...that would have to be a solo option only. When I sat on the bike I knew right away that something would have to be done to change the handlebar situation for me. Of all the bikes I would want, I think the Concours as a second bike would have to be at the top of my own list, and it would mean that either the Venture or Goldwing would have to go. But then when I left the dealership I quickly realized as I climbed on my Wing that I already own the bigger version of the Concours which I rode home. Later... I also saw a tricked out
3. Hi all - I am happy to say that I was finally able to go get my "new" 07 RSV (to replace the 05 I crashed back in August). My broken collar bone is healing well, if a bit slow due to the amount of bone overlap. Anyway, the point of this post is to see if someone is interested in swapping trunk lids with me. I really don't like the way the rear trunk wing looks mounted on this bike, so the easiest option would be to swap trunk lids with someone who has a blue 07 and wants what I have. Here are some pictures of my trunk: If you have a stock blue trunk lid, I'd swap it for the discounted price of the rack and wing on mine - $360. That way you get a perfect trunk lid with the rack and wing already mounted for less than you can probably buy the rack and wing alone. For a trunk lid with only the rack installed, I'd swap for $230 (discounted cost of the wing). If you are interested and within a couple of hundred miles of Dallas, Texas, let me know. I don't mind riding to meet you, but shipping the trunk lids somewhere probably does not make much sense.
4. gps is in the shop,so i will have to wing it this week---???????
5. I used to ride a Royal Star Classic and my wife still has fond memories of that bike. I'm in the throes of selling some property and I'll have some cash available to buy a new tourer. I'm having mixed feelings on what to buy as this next bike will be a keeper.(I always say rhat when I buy a bike.) There are only two bikes I'm looking at and they are obviously the Venture or a Wing. Both these bikes are alot more expensive to buy in Australia. On the road a New Venture will set you back $A28,500 and a Wing $A43,000. Used - at the moment there is a white 2004 Vemture with 4,740 kms on the clock for $A23,000 and also a 2001 Wing with 73,000kms for $A24,000. ($1 aussie dollar gets you 86cents american at the moment. Bikes are a lot dearer here). I still prefer the look of the Venture although it it starting to show its age with no real updates. Also the 2007 will be the last model to be imported into Australia. Yamaha will not be bringing in the 2008 model. There is always a good market for used Wings here. Pretty much I can get a new venture for a three year old wing. What to do?
6. Lots have spoken to the seat change-out issue... anyone done anything with the passengers backrest on the RSV? The wife wants something more like the 1st gen (which we just sold) or a Wing. Taller, more wrap around. Not seeing aftermarket customizations like this. Any ideas? bob
7. I have been reading about the noises coming from the rear end drive pins and I would like to take mine apart to grease things up, are there specific instructions for doing this or can I just wing it?
8. Hey all you motorcycle campers out there - looking for personal recommendations on camping trailers to pull with my Venture. I just got back from the Wing Ding in Billings, MT and there were several vendors there with pretty nice camping trailers for motorcycles - but I know there are a lot more makes and models then the 3 or 4 that were in Billings. Anybody got any feedback, positive or negative, on any makes/models? We would only be sleeping 2 as it is just my wife and I. Thanks. (and no, I wasn't looking to go over to the Wing nation - my wife rides a Gold Wing and she wanted to go to the Wing Ding - good excuse to ride my Venture through the Rockies)
9. Well after years of peace and quiet riding two up...the wife and I finally decided to break the silence and invest in some headsets. We choose the J&M 257 unit and purchased the same from WingStuff.com along with the additional cord that will fit our Wing and Venture. Has anyone here purchased the J&M 257? If so, we would love to hear your comments...the reviews we read at J&M were rather favorable.
10. I just got an 03 Venture with 32,000 on it and really like the bike. Got rid of an 06 Gold Wing that I bought brand new I had put 26,000 on it. Now the question Has any body tried to put a ram mount on the plastic piece that is just in front of the gas tank cap. I have an I-way 350 and it would not work on the Handle bars of the Gold Wing so really don,t expect it to work on the Venture. I was thinking of putting the base that is about 1 inch wide and 3 inches long on it by using two sided tape and drilling two holes and wide flat wasjers under it. Do you think this will work. Thanks Larry
11. Has anyone had to return anything to MAW? I bought a rear brake disc for my '89VR from them about three weeks ago. Ran a couple hundred miles last saturday, and toward the end started hearing a clicking noise coming from the rear end. Couldn't find anything wrong on the side of the road, so eased to the house. Couldn't find anything then either. Today I got to looking a little closer, and half the rivets in that new disc are loose. move it back and forth and it clicks. I told Ya'll this thing was a money pit. One thing after another. Again, the bike has great potential but man.....By the way, I guess I'm gonna have to go with an aftermarket clutch spring. This one still slips, even though it's new. but if you dont crank hard on the throttle it dont slip at all. thank heavens the old wing never misses a beat.
12. A couple of members have mentioned how a fork brace improves handling. They refer to the item as a Super Brace. I tried to get one but both bike shops I went to could only locate one for a Gold Wing. Can somebody give me the name of the manufacturer, supplier or any other details so I can order one locally? Many thanks
13. I got rid of my '02 wing just to try something different,my wife rides a '02 silverado so I bought a '06 RSTD.I could ride 800 miles on my wing with no problems,it had the stock seat with a Utopia back rest.I ride 10 miles on the RSTD and when I get off my tailbone hurts,I mean HURTS.After 800 miles in 6 weeks I had to take 3 weeks off of riding 'cause my back hurt so bad.Yes,I dont have the best back in the world, but I could ride my wing forever and I was OK.I'm 6'3 weigh 235,will a Utopia or other seat help,or am I wasting my time and should I go back to a Wing?I'm trying to like this thing, but I feel like I got out of a 2006 caddy and got into a 1965 VW beetle.Advice is appreciated, would a Road Star be more comfortable? Thanks...
14. Has anyone seeen a riser that can be attache to the passenger floorboards -- I have these on the Wing and it makes it much easier for shorter passengers to be comfortable. Thnx, DREBBIN
15. Will the head set from a gold wing fit a 2006 Venture? I noticed a website someone referred to and it was all gold wing! I am a new venture owner Thanks Biker John
