  1. I have belonged to this site for a few years now and have met many of you and have long conversations with lots of others. So I value and respect the opinion of lots of you guys....heres my question....I am thinking about getting a 1994 Goldwing...can get it fairly cheap. Any experience with this year? I know the wing is a good bike but some years have their issues? Any input?....Im looking at it because we are going to be doing alot more distance riding. I know all about the Venture..like I said, I have been here for years. I have even rode some other members bikes....but there are no deals on Ventures around here.Im looking at a wing. Something? Anything?
  2. ...during a big ol' T-storm at work. It was parked near the security guard shack; as I was walking out he asks me if I know who's bike that is. Yeah. Poor guy felt really bad for me; he kept apologizing, like he blew it over or something - hehe. A couple years ago I had a 440 lb, 600cc bike blow over, but it didn't lean very far over on the kickstand. I figured there was no way this 800 lb monster would blow over, but it did. In both incidents the bikes were covered - read, they had a sail attached, and they fell away from the kickstand. After the first incident I was paying attention to the prevailing winds, location of wind breaks, and which direction my bike was leaning while parked at work. Over time I kinda forgot to keep doing this. It was completely sideways. It musta hit the crash bars first (which did their job), but it had enough momentum at that point to keep going until the mirror and upper fairing near the mirror stopped it. It could be alot worse. The pavement was rough, so everything that touched down (mirror, fairing, crash bars) got a good roughing-up. Hiway bar just moved on its mounts, front crash bar had to be bent out a little, mirror OK except for scratches. The upper and lower fairing broke some mounting tabs and exacerbated some already-existing cracks near the mirror mount and the rear mounting point. It has Baker Air Wings. The wing is OK, broke off the mount at the nylon screws just like it's supposed to. I think the lower wing mounting arm is what hit the ground and caused the lower fairing mounting tabs to break. However, when I installed them I fabricated and installed extensive reinforcement and the fairing did not break at the wing mounting points. I rode it in again today. Partly makes me glad it wasn't pristine. The other part of me wants to fix and paint it and make it pristine. I'm certainly glad I wasn't on it and nobody got smushed. Oh well, nothing some more JB Weld and TIME won't fix. Just yesterday I was reading about PermaPoxy for fixing fairings. I think that was a bad omen :-) I'll have to go get some. Jeremy
  3. Hopefully I will soon get a pretty sizable raise and if it comes to pass I am contemplating selling the RSV and getting a BMW 1200 LT. I have always like the look and the features offered on them. The price is higher than the Venture, but that is to be expected when you get power stand, reverse, heated and electric seats etc. I haven't ridden one yet, but when I get back from Savannah I plan on scheduling a test ride. The seat height is about 3/4 of and inch taller than the Venture, but with my corbin seat I am flat footed on the RSV so I don't think that would be and issue. Anyone here ever owned or ridden this machine. If so what are the pros and cons from your perspective? I read a shoot out article between the LT and the 1800 GW. Taking engine size out of it, the BMW faired better with the reviewer than the wing in most categories.... handling, acceleration etc. The only thing the wing really had was you could add more crap to it. Thoughts.....
  4. just, did a little stirring on one of the wing sites. thats great i can go over there and and raise hell and relieve tension. what a grouchy bunch. talk about argue, just about every post turns into an all out rumble. i love it. sure glad to be back over here to catch my breath. bill :rotf:
  5. bought a brand new 0 miles, swingarm, rear rotor, rear caliper with pads, complete rearend, dunlop rear tire and wheel, as a complete assembly off a new 2008 gold wing that was triked. i got it all for $227.50 plus $68.00 shipping. the dealer i bought my wing from trikes wings and must have a pile of them the buy now was $300.00. i figure i got close to $3,000.00 worth of goodies. they have them on there all the time if anyone with a wing wants one. the wheel and tire mounted and balanced is worth way more than that. bill
  6. My husband and I were in Fayetteville, Ohio over the weekend. We saw this really nice Gold Wing Trike. There was a whole group of GW riders. We thought it was pretty unique.
  7. This is really hard for me to do. I have been agonizing over this for quite some time. I am selling the Tour Deluxe on E-Bay. I just don't have the room for 5 motorcycles. GF has a Wing, I have a Wing, GF has an 1100 Shadow Spirit, I have a Heritage Classic and a Tour Deluxe. I decided to keep the GoldWing. I am not going anywhere and am not bad mouthing anything or anyone. Most of you who have read my posts and replies know I have not done that. Too many truly wonderful people here, if that is possible. Who knows, might buy a Venture if I get tired of the GW, or waite to see what Mama Yama bring out for a "new" Venture. If any of you are interested in the bike please contact me via pm and we can work out the details. I have reserved the right to end the auction early as the bike is for sale locally.
  8. rode my new wing over 300 miles today and these darn footpegs are dealing me a fit. they are exactly in the position where i have to put mt feet down when i stop, and they really stick out there. having one heck of a time timing putting my feet down and stopping. it is really getting frustrating. i almost feel like a newby rider. it is worst then my rstd was at low speeds. other than that it is awesome. any of you goldwing boys got any ideas? bill:2133:
  9. heres my new wing, already got over 300 miles on it.
  10. what a saga getting my new gold wing was. drove a total of 805 miles yesterday, to arkansas to pick it up. was racing to beat the rain. no rain until i got home and backed the trailer in the garage and it let fly with horrendous storms, about 5 minutes later. talk about perfect timing. had a pile of boxes sitting on the doorstep from ups last night so as tired as i was the chroming began. got to go unload the bike and take it for a ride now. just saw some sunshine out there. never saw a honda dealer like the one in russleville arkansas they told me they sell about 30 wings a month. bill
  11. well i went and did it. i bought a new wing off ebay. found a price i could'nt pass up. got the color i wanted,(dark red metallic), premium sound. i am so excited just sitting here floating on air. got to drive to honda of russelville, arkansas next sat. to pick it up. the chroming is about to begin. don't worry i ain't ever leaving here. still have 2 yamahas in the stable. and i won't let you all off that easy. got to have a snarley bill around to stir the pot. this is my family and i'm here to stay. :rasberry:
  12. got the itch again for a new wing. made the mistake of letting my wife sit on the back of a new one, and she said it was sooo comfortable. unfortionate for me, lol. anyway what does it mean when you start looking at accessory catalogs for goldwings is this a bad sign. the worst part is linda is looking at them with me. could my vstar have that bad of passenger acommodations? i sure hope so. oh well i'll just keep on dreaming. did get my credit approved for one just to be on the safe side. ya never know when i might have to scratch the itch. :cool10:
  13. I had Ventureline air wings on the bike and I took them all the way off because one of the plastic part of the wing was broken really bad. Just one of those will let me put them back on. Bakers wings are kind of high and I am not interested in their name on it. Not looking to get it for free, willing to pay for it. I have only ever seen them on ebay once and I was outbid. So, if you have an extra one and willing to part with it, please let me know.
  14. I promised pic's of the 2003 Gold Wing I purchased just before going to Arkansas. Here they are. My bike is the darker color with the floor boards and the lower road lights.
  15. OK, it's only new to me. Just traded my '01 wing for a '99 Venture. A guy in my riding club had wanted my wing since I got it. He had purchased the Venture last year and just wasn't up to handling it, had dropped it several times at walking speeds. Anyway, I have a couple cages that need work and needed cash and he made an offer I couldn't refuse. Another member of the club rides a Cream colored Venture and really loves it so I thought I'd be ok. And I love it! It does have it's problems though. It really "flops" over at parking lot speeds. I'm going to replace the front tire, the current one is really worn (a 150?! wow) I also plan to add a wider handlebar for leverage. Has anyone replaced theirs? I could use a suggestion or two. It also dawned on me that it would probably help to replace the steering head bearing with tapered rollers. Does anyone have experience with that procedure? Maybe a part #? I know I'm asking a lot for a first day member but having read a couple hundred other letters in the forum I feel someone out there will have the answers. I'm looking forward to a long and fruitfull membership in your group. Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

  17. I went to the doctors yesterday, and he took out the stitches, for the last time!!!! He did more x-rays, and said all looks good, but I have to take it easy for another month. No lifting and such for about a month!! So I am in the end portion of healing:cool10: My Brother in Florida was gonna send me his "broken wing" patch, but he must not be able to find it. I had seen one that I really liked, but it was before the crash. Now I can't find where I had seen it (naturally). So I wanted to know if anyone has seen this patch. Unfortunately the picture is in my mind (yea, something has to be there) It was only about 3 1/2-4" long, had a nice set of feather wings, with only one wing broken, and falling down. I did see a HD one, but dont want that one (for obvious reasons). If you see one will you please let me know! I am looking for a small one to put over my shoulder on my vest. http://www.smokeymountaintrading.com/id67.htm It was similar to this one on page 21 only with one broken wing, and seems it was a lot nicer looking, and not in Harley orange. Thanks to everyone here for all the help and prayers...They must have worked....at least thats what the doctor says!!
  18. Yes I know its not a Venture sorry But Peg is happy. That matters the most to me!!!! We took it out ridding today and put on 150mi Peg's back did not hurt once. She said it rode better than the GL1500 and the 83 beast was too small for us - me really. Everybody that met Peg knows she is skinny so putting her in the Gold Wing seat made her look even smaller. Now if Yamaha had a seat & backrest like the Wing we would have bought it for sure. The Second Gen. has more leg room we Also like the body style too. But the Wing had more seating room. So we Give up one feature for another I guess you might say. So if you see a Dark red metallic Gold Wing at the M&E or Rallies it will be US outcast... Buddy
  19. I found these from JC and wondered if anyone had mounted these or tried. http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2000645/c-10111/Nty-1/p-2000645/Ntx-mode+matchallpartial/N-10111/tf-Browse/s-10101/Ntk-AllTextSearchGroup?Ntt=deflector I rode a wing with them awhile back and liked them so I was wondering.

    Bike Is Gone!!!!

As some know from my "I'm Popeye the Traitor Man..." post, I sold my 86VR & got a 97 Wing cuz nav just didn't trust the 86 anymore, after 4 breakdowns....even though I put in $2500. to fix. Well, the 86VR has been in my garage ever since, but today, a truck came & took it away, too. On its way to Germany. They have a HUGE European Venture Club, from there to Norway. It's Gone ! Now I got that 'final' feeling. I wasn't looking for a Wing, but came on a deal that only a fool would pass. We've only rode it 40 miles so far, due to weather & work [& no insurance]. It had really better be a good scoot. I'll have to change my gallery pics when I figure this Vista thing out.
  21. By now folks know of Popeye buying a Gold Wing 1500, well I caught the virus as well it will be here this coming Saturday. 1988 Gold Wing 1500 blue marble color that is in good shape. Don't worry we still have the 83 beast.I'll be using the beast for work and the blue marble for trips. I know its not a Venture but I always wanted a Gold Wing, So is it safe to come to the meets with the blue marble? So to let everybody know the blue marble will be in Eureka Springs in Sept. buddy
  22. With all of the posts about final drive problems and noises, I thought this post might help. I saw it on a Gold Wing forum, but it certainly applies to the Venture/RSTD rear drive unit as well. They are nearly identical to the GW drive. http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/Shaft.html
  23. (The one on the left, Rick who?) http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/?action=view&current=VWlll9-17-06016Small.jpg http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/?action=view&current=4-Corners9-06003Small.jpg What mufflers do you have? How much did you pay for the LED wing and to paint it? The cheapest I saw the wing for was around $200.00. I have a 99 with the same color combo and would like to do that to mine. I also like the white walls. Thats a clean looking bike.
  24. My last bike was a BMW K1200RS. I dropped that thing over one time from a standstill - A STANDSTILL, I said - and it caused $3800 in damage when it landed on its side. When it reached a certain axis, it was going down, and not King Kong or anyone else was going to hold it. That is why I am not buying any more BMW's. They do not have any protection for that sort of thing. A few bikes before that, I owned a Gold Wing. Now there is a behemoth. I also dropped that thing a couple of times, and it took Man Mountain Dean and a small army to heft it back into place. However...it always landed on these engine guards and tilted at about 45 degrees without any damage to anything. Nothing but the guards touched the ground. Again, there is nothing like that for most BMW's. I have also looked at Honda ST 1300's, which I really like. They have these wings on the side and some bar you can buy that sticks out behind the rear footpets to prevent those BMW drop-problems. This is a good thing. Now we come to the RSV. 807 lbs. Another leviathan. In the Gold Wing category. What happens when you drop an RSV on its side? Are there engine guards to keep the fairing and handle bars intact? Does it fall completely over and bend all kinds of stuff? Do those side bag guards do anything, or are they just for decoration? By and by, most of us are going to drop this thing, and I would like to know what is going to happen then? This is very important to me when I choose my next bike. It is one of the most important considerations on my list.
  25. Tell me I didn't just see this on Ebay. ??????? http://i3.ebayimg.com/05/i/000/b9/20/f909_2.JPG This contraption is certainly news to me.
