  1. Well we are finally moving forward with Charlene's surgery, seems all the phone calls and getting with our HR rep this morning at work helped. Only thing is we now have to start the whole process all over, back to the Dr for pr-op visit, cant be over 30 days between surgery and last visit, then have to go thru the consents again and pre-op at the hospital all over again, surgery is now scheduled for Jan. 25 and Jan 28. I am still fairly bitter about the way the insurance co. treated her file, but she is handling it much better. Thanks for all your prayers and support, it helps to have a big family backing you when you need it.
  2. I went to the eye doctors today. While sitting and waiting my turn I happen to notice a pamphlet on lasik eye surgery. On the front was a picture of Tiger Woods who according to the write up had it done 15 years ago. Thats when it occured to me that the lasik I surgery may not be so great after all.--- look what happend to tiger ----- ------- HE DEVELOPED A WONDERING EYE:rotfl: :rotfl:
  3. Just got a call from my surgeon and my surgery for December 11th has been postponed until January 21st. Surgeon has the flu. Thanks for all the kind words and prayers.
  4. went in tues for my second surgery to get my leg to heal up from breaking it in 05 when i wrecked my 01 venture. around sun i started getting a pinching in my lower back and didn't think i was going to make it to surgery it was hurting so bad. they gave me 2 valiums while preping me and it didn't do a thing. when they rolled me into the surgery room the sleep doc gave me a shot and last i remembered was them strapping my arms down. when i came to they said the surgery went a lot longer than the 1 to 1 1/2 hrs to 5 hrs. the 2 bones in my leg had grown together and they had to cut and saw them apart. back was still hurting some, but my leg was killing me. they was giving me morphine but wasn't easing my pain much. got out fri and got home around noon and went to bed and got some sleep. pain meds last about 4 hrs and i stay awake a couple of hrs so i don't get hooked on pain meds. got me in a plastic walking form wrapped with a bunch of ace wraps. going back to doc on 15th to see how it's doing. hope it all works out in the long run so i can get back to work.
  5. When I posted Sunday night that I was going in for back surgery at 6:30am I said something didn't feel right I WAS RIGHT. Anesthesiologist damn near killed me. This stupid female anesthesiologist was in such a hurry and wouldn't listen to anyone, Nurses told her I was not given all the shots to relax me and I was not ready to go. She grabbed me up anyway and took me to surgery. As we are going into surgery I'm telling her I'm not supposed to be remembering all this (from preveious surgerys I have had) her assistant telling her I had not had some shot in my neck yet and some stuff sprayed down my throat. So she sprays my throat and starts shoving this black tube down my throat, I'm gagging voices I can hear are telling her I'm not prepaired yet, I hear her say she has to use a lock and starts shoving another thing down my throat with the tube she already has in there. I can't breath at all and hear everybody yelling and then she wants a "trek kit" I'm about passed out, I hear my surgeon yell stop. About 1/2 hour later I come to in a recovery room with nurses everywhere I'm coughing up blood everywhere while they try to keep an oxigen mask on me. Was told later she pulled everything back out of my throat shoved it in again and hit gold or red I should say, they said I started coughing and blood was flying everywhere. Surgeon cancelled everything of course, had a lung doctor come in and put a small tube with a camera up my nose then down the throat to check things. Told me he would be the anesthesiologist next time. Bleeding got stopped and was kept overnight for oberservation. Have to start everything all over again in 2 weeks when throat is healed. Get this; I had lung x-rays before the operation and they were good, after this all happened the anesthesiologist blamed it on my lungs. She came to my room last night when my son was there and said I had an ashima attack and my lungs are in such bad shape that they cannot take an operation like this. But I passed the lung x-ray they did after all this happened too. Would not be out of hospital if I had any respatory problems they said. Bottom line I'm alive, have very sore throat, and meds to take so we can try the back surgery later. And that anesthesiologist is under investagation. And I need to see a lawyer, can't pay all this mandatory co-pay twice. Much more to this but this is the short version.
  6. I will be having surgery in the morning for a cataract and hope it goes as good as the last time on the other eye. But the biggie is, Laura just found out today that after failing her stress test last week that Friday morning she will be having a heart cath to put a splint in due to the lower part of her heart not getting enough blood. I am afraid hers may end up with a bypass if the stint does not work ok. So, please keep us in your prayers and hope everything goes well. RandyA
  7. Don't know any details yet, called Doctor to see if results were in yet and they called me back and told me it's OK to go on with the back surgery. Will know more tomorrow when I go see the Doctor. So back surgery is a go for Monday. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers.
  8. Had to go in today for some pre admission tests for my back surgery. First was simple EKG for the heart. Was told something was not quite right and they had to set me up with another type of heart test. (he said the name but I have no clue to what it was) Asked him what was wrong and he did not want to talk about it until the other test is done. Talked to his assistant Kathy after she made the appointment for the test and she said the test is for blood flow. Said they don't want to loose me during surgery. So that test is next Monday and if all is well they will continue with the other pre addmission tests. Sure gives me something to think about for a week. This getting old is just no fun anymore.
  9. Went to the Neurosurgeon today to find out the results of the tests that was done. Need more surgery due to the degenerative bone disease and now scoliosis. He has to take out the screws and rods that's in my back now and replace them with longer rods, new screws, and spacers. Has to go up 3 more vertebra. 6 hour operation and 4-7 days in Hospital. Have to check Abigail's school schedule and make arrangements for someone to take care of her and get her to school for up to 7 days. Just hope it helps as good as it did in 2005, lost weight, felt great, and got around real good for 2 years.
  10. I wanted to let everyone know that I had a nice telephone visit with Pastor Paul this afternoon. He told me that his problem was discovered as a result of having pneumonia twice in the last six months in his left lung, so they performed a scan and discovered the mass, which is the size of two fists. He goes into surgery (5-8 hours) on Tuesday at 10 AM, so please be thinking about him, especially at that time. He and Toni have gone camping tonight, originally to have some alone time. However, some of his local friends and associates found out about it and now there's a small crowd there. He says the more the merrier, so for anyone that might be in the area, they are staying at Points West Military Recreation Area at Clarke's Hill Lake (outside Augusta GA), in camping area #2. You are welcome and encouraged to ride over tomorrow to say hello and wish Paul well. Paul asked me to let everyone know how grateful and appreciative he is for all the well-wishes expressed on the Forum. I will update the other post Tuesday afternoon, once I hear from Toni about the outcome of the surgery. My thanks, as well, to all of you... TERRY
  11. Nothing serious, just the old enlarged prostrate problem. This is a very common problem among us "well experienced" gentlemen. They are going to do the old Star Wars light sabre thing on me, although they insist it's called green laser surgery! I will be back home Tuesday if all goes well. Then I get to enjoy the rest of the month off with pay. Now, if I just had a scoot that I could ride...
  12. Well its been 2 weeks since surgery. Went to doc yesterday and got those 23 stinking staples out:rotf: Boy did that make a difference in the surface pain. Have been doing 6 exercises a day and was up to 20 reps each. Doc says 3 more weeks of no wieght bearing on left side. He took xrays and all looks very good. Said what he did should last 30 yrs and that I had very strong and solid bone. Theripist came today and added 3 more exercises:crying: she tried to make me touch the ceiling with my toes or at least it felt that way:crying: leg lifts are the killer. But to be honest the pain is minimal. My hip seemed to hurt alot more before surgery. But could be the pain meds keeping it in check. They took me off the oxycodone and put me on hydrocodone which isnt as strong and I have noticed no difference. Im feeling pretty good just a little cabin fever is all. Should be moving around pretty good by the time the rally starts:banana: John
  13. Suns out, blue bird sky, warm, and I wish it were snowing. Then I'd have a good excuse not to fire up the scoot and go for a ride, but here I sit with my throttle hand wrapped in dressing from surgery last friday. It's not supposed to be this nice, that's why I scheduled the Carpal for January..... ARRGGGH!!!
  14. Unfortunately, pulling into a conveienience store for fuel at 12pm doing 5 to 10 mph at the entrance I hit gravel and both tires slid out and I was thrown down hard. This happened with 3 other friends on the way to enjoy a relaxing Sat. nite at my mother in laws lakehouse in Interlachin. It was right after we stopped for breakfast and about 1/2 way to our destination. I went by ambulance to the hospital where I found out I broke my leg in 3 places and will need re-conctructive surgery on my knee and broke my left thimb and shattered the socket which will also require surgery. I am now , imobile , in a leg cast and hand cast taking pain medication until Thursday when the ball starts rolling to get me fixed. My bike suffered minimum damage and I know now if I had a crash bar instead of a engine guard my leg would probably be much better off. Also due to this being an entrance to a public area I have an attourney involved also. I am also dealing with this syndrome should I ride again or hang it up, 3 weeks before this mishap I had a car pull out in front of me at night on a damp road, but I was able to save it. That alone really bothered me mentaly. Riding means everything to me, it is my escape, and my love, but I am really going to have and need some time to sort this out . I would really like to hear from some of you that have had similar experiences and how you handle something like this. All I can do now is take 1 day at a time and get through the pain. Last but very important, PLEASE FOR GOD'S SAKE LOOK OUT FOR GRAVEL AREAS, IT'S NO DIFFERENT THAT TRYING TO RIDE ON ICE! I didn't even see the gravel that took me down, it looked liked bleached asphalt.
  15. Janets ( Lil Tex ) knee surgery went well, it was a very long day, but she is home. Hopefully this will be the last that she has to go through. She has a brace from her hip to the top of her foot, and trying to learn to use crutches is always fun, but she`s getting it... plenty of pain meds, stay off her feet for a few days and all should be good.. Please keep her in your prayers!! Kreg
  16. Recently heard from Allan. Seems our buddy Allan has been out of commission. The weekend before the Eureka Springs gathering he hurt is knee very bad and it will need surgery. However, while waiting for the surgery he developed a bone infection. He has been on the antibotics, and surgery is delayed. He seemed pretty down and depressed, which I know I would be too. So keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Jay
  17. Hey folks - just wanted to let ya'll know what has gone on in my personal life in the last couple of years. I had 5 heart attacks in 2002 even though I was in excellent shape, owner of a fitness center, a double-certified personal trainer, ate healthy, and walked and exercised every day. Doctors said it was a heredity thing - "You can't choose your Mama & Daddy". I had to have a pacemaker and stent. Anyways, my health went into a total downward spiral from that point on. I was put on 11 different medications and told that I could not do any exercising or weight training. I had absolutely no energy and couldn't even walk the treadmill for exercise. In the next 2 years or so, I gained over 160 lbs., became pre-diabetic, developed sleep apnea, developed congestive heart failure, severe edema and swelling in my feet and legs (couldn't even get my shoes on some days), and developed several other medical probelms assoiciated with the weight gain. It just kept getting worse by the month, no matter what I did or what the Dr.'s tried - diets, medication, etc. :confused24:The Dr.'s told me that I needed to consider having gastric bypass surgery because it was probably my last resort if I hoped to live more than another 2 years or so. Additionally, I was told that with my heart history and other problems, and family heart history, the risks were greater for me if I did decide to have the surgery. Pretty heavy stuff (no pun intended) to hear from your medical experts.http://www.kawasakimotorcycle.org/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif After some very serious soul searching, discussing the situation with my wife, and many sleepless nights, I decided to have the surgery in order to try to improve the length and quality of my life. I researched bariatric surgery and surgeons like crazy and found a great bariatric surgeon, Dr. William Richards and staff, at Vanderbilt. I had the surgery on 4/28/08 and came through it great. I have since lost over 135 lbs. and feel like a new man. Because of the weight loss, I am no longer pre-diabetic, no longer have sleep apnea, no longer have congestive heart failure, no more edema, my cholestrol is great, and no loner have to take the medications, other than a daily cholesterol pill. My energy level is getting better with each passing day. The weight loss has improved my heart health tremendously according to my cardiologist. I am also now able to walk the treadmill and weight train again, but still have to light to moderate weights. Although it is a MAJOR life-long commitment and hasn't been without some major changes, I honestly know it has been a life saver for me. All in all things are really much better for me now and are getting even better by the month! I am now back to exercising and weight training daily. Riding is so much more comfortable and enjoyable now too! Now that my health is improving, I hope to be able to be a more active here, and maybe even be able to make some of the rides and "Meet & Eat" events (even though I don't eat much anymore!!) I have had the pleasure of meeting a few of the members here - Eck, John Gambling, and a couple of others - and all have been super nice folks. Hopefully I will be able to meet a lot more now! Anyways, thanks for taking the time to read this, and RIDE SAFE! Me - Christmas 2007 - 386 lbs. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e82/BamaVulcan04/100_1153Medium.jpg Me - Aug. 13, 2008 - 250 lbs. and still losing! http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e82/BamaVulcan04/Bob_R__2_-_8-13-08_Medium.jpg BamaBob
  18. Well Charlene finally had surgery to repair her knee today, she is resting now, hopefully this will help her get on her way to feeling better, dont know if this is going to help with her hip or not, but time will tell if she needs surgery on that. Just going to take it one day at a time, she had a rough time coming out from under the drugs they used to knock her out, she has always had a hard time with that anytime they put her under. Please keep her in your prayers for a fast recovery............
  19. Charlene is finally getting something done about her problems, knee, back, and hip. The dr. did another mri on her hip and her knee and after her last visit, she is now scheduled for orthoscopic surgery on her knee. She has a torn miniscus, damage to joint and needs to repair a tendon on her left knee. Recovery should be a little over 2 weeks if all goes well. Dont know if she will be able to ride in comfort after that or wait until she has her hip surgery, so keep her in your prayers for an easy go of it. It would be great to have her back on the bike again. The surgery is going to be on the 9/11/2008.
  20. Well I went to see the Doc. today and he said the hip is doing great and set up my surgery for my rt. knee replacemnt for Sept.3rd. I have recived a few orders for Grills and have 10 grills (not spoken for ) that I will have ready to ship before my surgery. I am not going to take down my no orders at this time on my web site. I am offering these Grills to members of this site on a first come first serv . I will be making them again after the end of Oct. so not to worry if you decide to get one down the road. Thanks to everyone for all your support and I hope this will be the last time to go under the knife for a long time. Please email me direct at steveww1@alltel.net if you would like to place an order or call me first at 770-630-0973. Ride Safe Steve
  21. Just wanted to let everybody know that my hip surgery seems to have gone well...sore as all get out now, but I am sure it will get better. This about ruins the rest of my riding season, but there's always next year. Hope everybody has a safe riding season...stay healthy and keep it between the ditches.
  22. Hi guys, just a note to say thanks to thems that what helped out with the multitude of questions about the 06 Midnight Venture I picked up. While convalescing from surgery last week, my buddies serviced the bike for me, oil change, spark plugs, new tires (E3's), fixed up some gnashed wiring, and installing an ear splitting air horn under the bat wing fairing, etc.. A week after surgery I took the beast out for a casual careful ride (new tires need to be scuffed) and to make sure I could handle it.. I mean I feel strong but ya know how it is.. Holy wow.. nice. Those tires severely wakened the bike up as she really wants to lean for it's size and now, it really doesn't feel top heavy as it did on the previous tires (rear E3 was barely legal worn and the front E2 was scalloped), this made for a huge handling difference. But now wow.. tomorrow is a full day of riding, get the scuff on the tires and burn some gas =) Only ran into one glitch though, the hazard lights stopped working.. signals are OK but no 4 way flashers.. Will post that one in another thread.. But ooooh nice.. My poor broken customized VStar is going to have to wait to get repaired now awww..
  23. Dale goes in for his surgery this morning.....just wondering if anyone else here has had the surgery and knows what to expect? I guess they are gonna cut him in 3 areas and then fix the rotator cuff. Doc says it will be about 6 weeks before he can even lift 1 lb with that arm! Being a workmans comp claim they are sending him back to work Monday on restriction which means he will probably get sent home each day, but he has to show up:think: Seems way to soon to me. Plus they dont cover his wages for the first 3 days......anyone familiar with all this and how it works? Me thinks its gonna be a rough cpl weeks at first from what I have heard. Wonder how long it will be before he can handle the bike, im sure there wont be much if any riding this summer:crying:
  24. Well, I talked to the Doctor yesterday, and he has agreed to postpone the surgery until August. That means I can make it to Marcarls and the International Rally!! Unfortunately Ashville will be out of the question, and I was sooo looking forward to meeting that crowd. They will be just removing the bone that my middle toe is conected to, but will leave the toe itself on "for decoration." Also, the recovery time wil be just a few weeks instead of the few months I had anticipated. Also, it should not affect my balance, so I guess I can postpone triking out Goldie for another couple of years yet. Thanks to al of you who have been praying for me as it means a LOT to me...
  25. well guys, gonna go in Mon. morning for cataract surgery on left eye. Past year vision has been getting progressively foggier/cloudy in left eye. Went to Dr. last Tue. and he said I need to get this corrected now. Also said that when done, might need reading glasses only. I have worn glasses for the last 40+ yrs. won't know how to act without them! LOL Am probably gonna have to do the other eye in the next year also. Just keep me in your thoughts and prayers. Don H.
