  1. has anyone found a way to upgrade the stereo system on rsv?
  2. I was reading some post on wind buffeting. Has anyone tried tour wing windows? I put a set on a Honda 900 Custom years ago because the wind buffeting was so bad I couldn't hear the stereo & give me a headake. put the wings on & the buffeting stoped. I could wear a baseball cap & listen to the stereo with no more buffeting. was wondering if it would work on a Venture?
  3. Hello all, brand new venture owner as of today!! Traded my 86 FJ1200 for an 86 Venture XVZ. I am now interested in installing a stereo and speakers as it appears this was not an option on this model. Looking for any info on anyone who has done the same or has any ideas Thanks Zacman:680:
  4. As you are all contemplating the purchase of a zumo 550, please keep in mind that the bluetooth portion is for the cell phone connection. It does NOT give STEREO output for the MP3 player. The only way to get stereo is out of the hardwire plug. Now, the new Zumo 660 will support stereo sound over bluetooth. However, the 660 does not have XM capability. Also, I don't believe the 550 will support 2 connections over bluetooth at the same time. So, riding 2 up would force 1 person to be in silence unless the helmet of 1 would rebroadcast to another. JB
  5. Looks like this might be a nice option for anybody without a stereo that wishes to add one. http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-radio/jensen-jhd910-radio/
  6. OK folks, I got home late last night and barely had time to play with the new Zumo 550 before going to bed. This morning I stuck it in my work car so that I could try it out a bit today. Now, my work car is a 2008 Dodge Caravan. It has an AM/FM/CD unit with RCA type inputs on the front for auxiliary in. I use it all the time with my Sirius radio with a 1/8" stereo to dual RCA plugs to run from the Sirius unit to the car's stereo. The way it works is that when you plug an audio source into the aux input jacks on the stereo, it automatically switches to aux. I simply unplugged the stereo plug from the Sirius and plugged it into the audio out jack of the Garmin car mount. It worked great at first but then it started losing the aux in signal. There is an indicator on the stereo that says "Aux" when something is plugged in. If it is on aux though and there is no input signal, the display says "No Aux Found". It will show "Aux" and work fine for a few minutes and then "No Aux Found" for a few minutes and during those times there is no MP3 nor navigation prompts heard from the Garmin. Also, I notice that if I press the pause button on the Garmin MP3 player, I also lost navigation prompts as long as the MP3 is paused. I'm thinking that all of this has something to do with the way the aux input works on my cars stereo but was wondering if any of you have run into a similar problem. The only way I can double check it would be to get it installed on the bike and go for a VERY cold ride.
  7. I'm wondering if these '85 Venture CBs will like typical "truck stop" CB antennas as long as the SWR meters out. Also, can't a splitter be used to incorporate the stereo with that one antenna? AND aren't TOP LOAD antennas better than BOTTOM LOAD for bikes?
  8. I am sure this has been discussed many times but I am new here and was getting cross eyed looking at all the posts. I would like to upgrade the quality of my sound system on the 04 venture. I have put some barons pipes on and obviously it hurt the stereo sound. I tried to use chatter box systems but they are terrible! I have read on the star web site about the speaker upgrades but I was wondering is it possible to add an amp as well. Any help would be much appreciated, I love this bike, I have had it almost two years and would have another in a heart beat. Sites like these are excellent thanks in advance. Java
  9. Has anyone installed a stereo. on a rstd. If so what type of speakers and where did they mount them. I would like to use my ipod for some tunes on the bike. I've seen some made by barrons. they just look a little big for my tastes. looking for something that looks good on the handle bars. thanks marty
  10. Today as I was driving through Ridgway, PA, I saw an '84 for sale in front of a house close to down town. I stopped and snapped some pictures of it. I called the number and the guy is asking $3100.00. Sounded high to me as this is a standard, not a Royale and is in average condition for the year I think. Anyway, here is the info if anybody is interested. The telephone number is 814-594-2510. It has just over 50,000 miles on it. Aftermarket stereo. Plastic looked good. Engine looked clean. Seat ripped on front edge. Will need tires. Nobody was there so I didn't hear it run.
  11. Hello again everyone. Boy, I am just full of questions today. haha Seems that I just don't get the power out of my stereo that my buddy gets on his 93 RSV. When he plays his stereo while riding, I can hear it. Faintly, but I can hear it. When I play mine, I have to crank it to full 30 and although I can hear it, it just isn't as loud enough and it is very distorted. When I am using my headset, I can't make out the music. Oh, I can hear music playing but it is more noise than anything else. And again, distorted. And with the constant open mike picking up all the outside noise, wind, bike, my own breathing, it is more nerve racking than anything. Also very hard to talk back and forth with my wife. She can barely hear me and I can hardly make out what she is saying. ANOTHER THING: Thought my buddy and I would try out the CB part of our system last weekend. His bike was about 50 feet away from mine. When I talked to him through my headset, it was so freaken loud, I could hear it come from his bike. It scared him and he had to turn it down. When he talked to me, I could hardly hear him at all, and my volume was turned up all the way (30). Any ideas? Is my stereo defective? Are there any not so obvious settings that I have not adjusted? Thanks.
  12. If anybody here has an old headset that they want to part with, I would like to have it. I am looking for something where the cord and mic are OK but the speakers are shot. I want to experiment with adding a 3.5" stereo jack to them so that you can just plug in a set of noise canceling ear buds of any brand and completely remove the existing speakers.
  13. I'm looking at a 2006 RSV...the dealer said it has the "optional" stereo kit installed. What is it that's not "standard"? Also, from the front there are 2 small lights (besides the headlight). Are those driving lights that actually do something for you or are they just the yellow lights that don't do much?
  14. I've read a lot about the pros and cons of headsets and still can't decide whether to buy a set or not. Brenda and I have ridden my '06 RSV for almost 2 seasons without them and have gotten along alright but if they could help hear the radio better or for us to talk to each other, I'd buy a set. I currently wear a half helmet and am looking at an open face while Brenda already has an open face model. I've heard some people say that the intercom is noisy because it is always live. I guess I could buy Mic-Mutes for more $$ but is it really worth it? I see on EBay that you can buy stereo headsets for helmets that don't have a Microphone so that you can listen to the audio. These come with an 1/8" stereo jack. You can then buy the adapter that allows you to plug it into the headset plug on the bike. Anyone tried these? I don't want to spend the money on headsets only to find out that they don't work well at highway speeds or that there's other drawbacks. Any feedback (positive or negative) would be appreciated. Thanks; Rod.
  15. Can you listen to music on the headphones and talk on the cb/intercom all at the same time or do I have to choose between cb, intercom or stereo?
  16. Has anyone successlfully put in an aftermarket stereo and figure out how to keep the standard CB radio working?
  17. I was wondering if mine was added from a past owner or all the first gens came with a ciggarette lighter on the left side of the dash mounted in the black area near he stereo, and if so do they have power all the time as mine doese? http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/MikeM8560/Venture%20XVZ12/mvc_760s_461-1.jpg?t=1185236149
  18. I installed The new JMCB-2003 CB this weekend. when purchasing the unit i ordered the yamaha mounting kit. the kit is for the star bikes. you remove the left mirror and bolt the mount in its place the the mount and cb mount to the rear of the bolt and the mirror bolt into a hole in the cb mount plate. well this doesnt work with the 1st gen as the clutch resovoir is a bit higher then the bolt on our bike that has no mirror in it. the bolt is used to hold the stereo control switch box. this also was an obstacle. wha i did was remove the switch from it mouning tab by the 2 small scres on the backside. I then turned the mount over so the switch was down rather then above the mounting bolt. tropuble wasa now due to the angle of the metal piece and the switch box when mounting the cb down tight over the stereo switch it pushed down on the switch and cause trouble with the switch operation. So i removed the stereo switch and drilled a new hole so it mounted about a 1/4" lower. installed the cb and all fit well now. I then removed the stock antenna and installed a Firefly cb antenna with fold down mount from http://www.walcottcb.com/ I wanted to keep the single antenna so i added a splitter in the cable so the antenna works for bolth cb and stereo. I suppose the splitter take away from the cb power but im just looking for communication for group riding. not long distance talking. with the stereo input tapped into the stereo speakers the music from my stereo and Ipod with fm modulator is heard in my headset along with the cb. they also have a way to connect cell phone and gps if you like. in the first photo you can see a hole in the front of the cb on the chrome mount the is the hole they say to use to mount it but i used the hole in the back that for the mirror instead because othe the resevoir being higher on the 1st gen. you can also see the new lower stereo controls position.
