1. Not on motorcycle, but on a Raft. We have lots of Rivers in Western Washington State, and summer River Rafting is a popular sport in this neck of the woods. OK, 4 of July Yesterday, River Rafters are out in force . A few of them are Drunk Drivers !!!! ( not to surpriseing ) Anyway, just heard on news, This Drunk, falls off his Raft-- he is carried down river by the current, his fellow rafters ( not sure if they were drunk ) call the Sheriff dept. on Cell phone, Sheriff sends out Helicopter-- chopper uses Infered heat senceing cameras, flying down the river, thru a heavly wooded ares, and spots the " Hot Spot " Clinging to a large rock in the river -- Choppers drops the Rescue guy on cable ( just like you saw in New Orleans on TV ) and the Deputy Sheriff, saves the guy, and then back packs him out to an ambulance about 2 miles thru the woods !!! Is there a morel to this story?? can it be applied to motorcycling ??? Not sure, but anyway, I had a good laugh watching the news this morning. !! :hihi::hihi:
2. How about taking the high road in this contest; Have to take it a little bit easy Ken8143. I mean, how unfair is it to have a full blown battle of wits with those who are unarmed and defenseless? Kinda like those two people from Elizabethtown,Pa who walked into a bar. You'd think one of them would have seen it. I hear this really happened in Elizabethtown PA; Ken8431 was out for a walk and comes to a river. He sees Dallas on the opposite bank. "Hey buddy!" he shouts, "How can I get to the other side?" Dallas looks up the river then down the river and shouts back, "You ARE on the other side.":rotfl:
3. If my wife stops worrying about this Swine flu thing and settles down, and if the weather holds out, I am hoping to take the bike to BongoBobby's eat & meet this weekend is Buffalo. I figure on leaving the Kitchener area around 1:00 and taking a leisurely route down along the Grand River through Dunnville and popping up at Fort Erie. Anyone in the area or along the route that wants to hook-up for the ride, let me know. If plans change and I have to take the cage, then I'll probably take the QEW.
4. I had some work that needed done around the house Saturday. So I went for a ride. I was out for around nine hours and put on maybe 400 miles. Here are a few pictures I took along the way. The first place is called Hanging Rock. It is located on the Wabash River near Salamonie Reservoir in northern IN. This lone chunk of rock juts up out of the ground almost 100' where the rest of the landscape around it is pretty flat. This unusual (for northern IN) geological feature is known all over the world. It's only a few feet from the road, but when the leaves are out on the trees, it's completely hidden from view. Amazingly, it's not hard to climb to the top of it. The next two pictures are from the top looking out at the river, one to the east and the other to the west. The next two pictures are the covered bridge in Roann, IN. It's a dirty little town, not much to look at. But this bridge is in excellent shape. It's open to traffic, but the main road has been routed around it with a modern bridge, which is where I took these. As for the house project work, well, we'll see what happens next Saturday.
5. i'm going to ride from alton to quincy on the river road tomorrow morning, if any one wants to ride along. i'm leaving st. charles,mo. about 6 or 6:30 am. should be in alton around 7:15 am.. then taking the river road to hannibal on the illinios side and coming back 79 on the mo. side. if any one wants to fall in along the way let me know. bill
6. Ran across an '83 in the U.P. yesterday. Was driving past a shop that apparently does custom motorcycle work. They had several beautiful Harley-based customs on the lot. I think the owner was a little miffed when I went over to look at the beater 1st Gen instead of the expensive Milwaukee Iron sitting around. The 1st Gen was his daily rider and he didn't seem to like it. He also didn't know much about it (claimed it was an '82 - not likely). And... he would like to sell it. It is kind of beat up. 54000 miles. 2nd gear shot. Been down on the right side. Trunk had been removed but he had it. Fairing is rashed on the right side, mirror broken, saddlebag on right side is scratched (not fully rashed, but you would tell it went down). Didn't look like it had a bath for years. He flipantly said - $500. Might be worth it for parts or for a fixer-UPper (pun intended). Owner's name is Stanley Constantino. Shop # 906-474-9955. Cell # 906-399-0887. Located in Rapid River, MI (near WI border). My charity work is done for today. RR
7. Well we did our February ride dedicated to our great northern friends. This will now be an annual event to help out those who are snowbound and need to know that YES,we are riding on your behalf! It is the LEAST I can do for our friends. We had a FANTASTIC ride and to my surprise the first night I was on the street corner in Marathon,Texas looked up and here comes Ponch and Lil Bit riding in from Tomball,Texas 601 miles...He will update on his wild experience so I will not get into that any farther but it was a shocker to see that White RSV coming into town!Anyway our weather was great except one day we had a little West Texas sand storm but in tradition we put cloths over our faces and braved the elements. Here are a few pictures, enjoy and trust me,we raised a few margaritas for all of our VentureRider friends and shed quite a few tears for you guys....Tom Pics as follows Kerrville Texas and theier Texas Swimming pool On Top of a Sister Pecos River (4 Pics) Roy Beans cafe Texas Toilet Paper Lil Bit,Ponch and Me Santa Elena Canyon,Big Bend (2 pics) Top of river rd,Hwy 170 out of Bib Bend (5 Pics OH Yes, And for our Stratoliner/Roadliner friends and Owners a picture of my friends Roadliner with a Dragonfly fairing Installed on it..I think it looks great!
8. The plane evidently went in the Hudson river. Not sure how this happened. Just started showing it on one of the news channels. Looks like everyone got out and the darn thing is floating. Good thing so the folks can get out. That waters got to be really cold. Margaret

10. Sunday Ron and I rode to Natural Bridge and Red River Gorge, which is located in the Daniel Boone National Forest. We have been there before, and just spontaneously decided to go there again. But I forgot how steep the trails are. Really beautiful. Here are some photos. I am still sore, but it was still fun. Yama Mama:7_2_104[1]:
11. New here, haven't got the picture thing worked out how I want but I am not good with computers..they hate me. We work our way down from northwest Cincinnati to RT52 that follows the Ohio River, since RT32 in OH and the AA highway in KY have opened this road is now a great road with very little traffic other than locals. Very scenic.Well we make our first "p" stop at Point Pleasant at the rest area and home of Grant's birth place...nice little stop We are on a XS 1100 Yamaha and 750 Honda.A little museum is across the street to see Grant's early years,we were a bit early so it wasn't open. As we travel east on 52 we stop at Meldahl Dam,no barges going thru at this time,we were fenced off from getting any closer than the parking lot, maybe 9/11 had something to do with this, had a little obervation tower we used to go up in. Back on 52 we ride along some nice road till we drop of to pick up Boudes Ferry to take us to KY... To cross over it was $2 a bike,it must be run by KY cause if OH ran it there would be a tweleve foot high fence on it to keep you from falling off. What is really cool about this ferry is the engine house,he is facing forward as he pulls up and when ready to go back the whole engine house turns around so the actual ferry never turns...neat as shti. So we are now in Augusta KY,ya gotta visit this old river town, sit by the river or just walk around, put it on your list. We find RT8 and it is empty of traffic, follows the river,smooth,scenic....it don't get any better. As we travel RT8 we miss the Rankin House in Ripley OH,it sits high above the river and has a great view of the Ohio River on a bend. We hit Maysville KY and stop to see the flood wall and walk around on the river side, neat town..it is growing and why did we want to see the flood wall? Size perspective..... Well we cross back into Ohio and on RT 52 again,as we keep travelling east we pass one of my favorite state parks,Shawnee State Park, the lodge is great and the area is beautiful, the trails I am told are used to get in shape for those who plan on hiking the Appalichian trail. We finally make it to Portsmouth to see the flood walls,1/4 mile long and depicts the history of the area and on the river side is a park and you can just enjoy the river. From there our final goal was Hocking Hills State Park to meet up with a few Harley riders, some great roads getting there,ya can't go wrong in OHIO.We spent the next day riding around the area, fantastic place to visit, easy walking trails..but would stay away from the weekends First report, click on the pics for a bigger picture..I hate computers...This trip was last October and will try to make it again this year as I had a great time. Bill XS1100 Yamaha..It's Evil, Wicked,Mean And Nasty.....

13. Saltydog (Wayne) and Krome Rose(Brandy) came to visit today. So we took them on a little ride to Elizabeth City to eat and then rode back across the S Bridge here in Hertford. Got some nice pics of the clouds they were rather puffy and slightly ominous looking at times. The first few water pics are the Chowan River then the Perquimans river. We have a lot of water around here. Last 7 pics are of the S bridge. Margaret
14. Hi guys, talk about a fish out of water.. I'm hoping one of you lads or ladies are able to help me with this one.. I have to do some photography work near Manhattan (NYC) next month and just realized that hotels / motels are brutally expensive there.. wow.. However, someone clued me in that staying across the river in NJ (Hoboken for example) is a lot more affordable. However, I'm not sure where on that side of the river is safe, quiet and reasonable. I'm hoping someone is familiar with the area as to make a few recommendations.. ? What I need is a room for 3 people (2 beds) and large enough for us to work from for three days. A suite would be nice but them's expensive.. so hopefully there might be somewhere with larger rooms available at a decent price. If you know of a good place or can point me somewhere to start looking, I'd dearly appreciate it. Cheers
15. Daughter and I are riding from Bremen to Chatanooga Sat. Gonna hit Ruby Falls and maybe stay downtown near the river. I've heard a bout a boat cruise at night? Anyone familiar?
16. Were any of you at the Red River Rally? And if so what was the name of the photographer? We were riding out of town and saw his van but did not catch the website address. Thanks SS
17. Just a few pics from the Red River Rally. I left my house on Friday, the 23rd, 91 degrees. It cooled off and by the time I got to Red River it was 31 degrees! Brrr!! Snow was caking on my windshield, sleet hitting me in the face...ahh...life is good at 9000 ft up in the northern New Mexico mountains! But by Sunday it was warming up quite a bit. Sunshine and about 65 to 70 degree temps in mid-afternoon. Nights were delightfully cool. Put about 1200 miles on the bike. Ran flawlessly. I'm ready for Sturgis now!

20. We like running the Mississippi river from St. Paul down Hwy 61 through Hastings, Redwing, Lake City, Wabasha, Winona then back up the other side of the river in Wisconsin on hwy 35. You can cross the river at Red Wing, Wabash and Winona so you can adjust the length of your trip quite easily. Some of the cities on the WI side are (heading back North) Fountain City, Nelson, Pepin, Maiden Rock, Bay City, Prescott. Points of interest along the way: The river - I never get tired of the river. I'd live on the river if I could afford the house boat and my house. Bald Eagles (this is a major migratory route and in the spring there are hundreds of them with their young), Locks and Dams - Some have visitor platforms were you can watch boats and barges moving through the locks. L&D #2 in Hastings is one. Red Wing has many places to eat include the Historic St. James Hotel. Good food there. (Spendy but worthy) In the fall you MUST stop in at Pepin Heights Orchards just past Lake City. Good fresh apples, pies and other wonderful snacks. Wabasha - The Historic Anderson House B&B - good food and very interesting sleeping arrangements. Minnesota's only legal 'Cat House'. They have numerous cats and you can pick one to have in your room. Fountain City - Rock in the House, A while back a GIANT 55 ton boulder fell from the cliff and rolled into this house coming to rest on the couples unoccupied bed. It's a cheap walking tour and a site to see. If you shoot into WI on 95 from Fountain City you'll make your way to Hanson's Hold-up. A very unique place to eat. Pepin - Check out The Pickle Factory. They have great food and if you and yours are trying to slim down get one meal and split it, the servings are large. Prescott - You gotta eat at Muddy Waters! Food, music (sometimes live jazzz and blues) large outdoor seating overlooking the joining of the St. Croix and Mississippi rivers. There's plenty more to be had along this route and there are plenty of reasons to do this trip again and again taking in something different each time. Check out the Hwy 60 side route in MN. A short little jaunt of twisties that will get your heart pounding and you can get back to with ease to continue your river journey.
21. Looks like Fri 07 Mar at 1:00PM (1300HRS) might be the best date & time hope to see all of you at Bikeweek. U.S.N.F. River Forest Group Campground 45700 river forest blvd. DeLand , FL. 32720 http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=e...UTF8&om=0&z=11

This is SureFoot

Here is my new Bike......all I can tell you is it is a Dandy. Has ABS brakes and radial tires....so I have named it SureFoot. Also a couple photos of an Confederate memorial I found by the Savanaha River.....by the long way home, 264 miles. With heated grips and Seats and toe warmers and motor air vents......pretty warm.
23. Last Sunday my wife and I rode from Lexington, KY to Maysville, KY and crossed the Ohio river via the bridge at Maysville. After stopping for lunch at the "Lively Lady" in Aberdeen we continued west along the river until coming to the Augsta Ferry ( http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM246Z ). We then crossed back into KY via the Ferry to Augusta, KY. From there we followed highways 19 and 62 back through north central KY. Although it was a bit cooler than my wife would have liked, we did enjoy the ride. I've got to get these rides in before the weather turns too bad. Photos attached. DT
24. We will depart there at 12:30 pm and ride back across the Mississippi River on I-40 to St. Jude Hospital. Looking forward to seeing all of you there. Please make sure you read the attatchment regarding interaction with the patients............... Thanks and safe riding. Lewis/DragonRider
25. My wife and left yesterday about 4:30 PM and rode the bike down River Road (Mississippi River). Took almost 2 hours to cover the 98 miles, because of all the curves and little towns. Beautiful ride seeing all of the plantation homes and old houses. Ate supper at a little seafood restraunt we know, great local fare. and then rode home up the interstate. It was only 63 miles that way and took an hour. Suprisingly cool last night. What a way to spend 5 hours.
