  1. Hi Folks: I need some help with my CB / Headset project. I have it pretty much completed. From a 90 I was able to acquire a complete CB and radio system which I have been wireing and mounting into my 84. Has been an interesting project and I feel fairly successfull. All is now working except for the drivers headset. I only get sound from one side. After much deliberation and head scratching not to mention testing and testing I've narrowed it down to one pin in the cable that comes from the radio inside the fairing to where I plug my headset in isn't working. Cleaning etc fails to get it working sooooo Does anyone have one of those cables they would be willing to part with?? Wayne
  2. i read some where in here where to get longer cords for the 2nd gen something about radio shack maybe?
  3. Through the winter didn't have the problem - but now that it's warming up, the problem is back. When I go over bumps the right channel quits working. Then sometimes it will come back on over other bumps. I've taken the radio out and looked at the connetions - they look clean. I was thinking about putting dielectric grease in the connections to see if it would help.
  4. I had tried to get as much riding as possible in the fall, being my first year with my '05. But I got caught by Mother Nature and I had 3 weeks of no riding before I tried to put her away for the winter. It would not start, I charged the battery and it DID start and I was able to put her away. BUT, the radio would not play. I did notice a small spark when attaching the wires to the negative terminal. I dunno?!? So as I am now able to break through the backyard glacier, and I was wondering were to begin and just what the heck to do. Fuses? and how do you get to the fuse in the barrel shaped plastic tube that sits on top of the battery? Which fuse is for the radio? After reading some other people battery woes, the radio seems to be the first thing that goes? right? So maybe it is a weak battery? Any help would be greatly appreciated. And ..... um..... pretend your explaining it to a total moron, (maybe then I'll get it). Thanks.
  5. During this past December I had opprotunity to work at the Jacob Javits Center in the Yamaha booth as part of our STAR Touring group. The STAR Touring booth was located right between the 2 Ventures and the VSTAR 250/650. While there I talked to many possible future Venture owners about the bike. And everyone one of them spoke of the embarrassment of the cassette deck. So I decided that their had to be something better (MP3/ SAT Radio / Nav) than that old deck. On Venture site, someone had removed the Cassette player and replaced it with a glove box. So I decided that something was definately possible. I saw another user had replaced theirs with a Graphic EQ, but still thought something more useful. So I began to search. One criteria I was trying to maintain was not to modify the external portions of the fairing and if all possible retain the door to the cassette deck. The dimensions - are tiny. Now I found an MP3 player (Sansa) this would fit. Problem is I would only get about 4 hours out of the battery and it had no car power offered to it. Tried to see if any GPS would fit, no luck (smallest is a Garmin - 2.2" X 5"). Then I found it - a Satellite Radio - the AGT - Sportscaster - 1.6" High - 4.75" Wide. Now it still took quite a bit of modifications - but it works. I tried to make it look as factory as possible. Also at the same time - made a modifcation to my Hoppnel pouch to move my TomTom 720 to sit dead center (like the Gold Wing). This is also wired into the Aux. Now I have MP3, Bluetooth Phone and Spoke Navigation working in conjuction with the SAT Radio (via a splitter). Now - is it a perfect solution - probably not. Is it a better solution - I think so. Thought I would share it with you all. Stu
  6. I've had it with my radio on my 83 VR.. I screwed with it non stop, cleaned it and and even replaced it with one I picked up that i know works. The brass pin connections are just too tricky. I saw somewhere on here at one time where someone had retrofitted a marine radio into the same location as the original.... but I can't find the post again.. I know lots of people just use MP3's and i pods. those are great, but I still like the plain old radio for around town. Any thoughts ideas or knowledge on how to put a marine radio in that location. thanks Clay
  7. I have XM radio and I just had to try Sirius to see if it was any better , But I didn't know it was going to cost me $37K ! Unfortunately it was attacked to a brand new '08 F-150 4x4 crew cab . Well to tell the truth , $37K was sticker price of the truck with 6 months free (cough-cough) Sirius radio . And then again I didn't pay the $37K they wanted fer the truck either . All said and done , I traded in my '04 F-150 4x4 extended cab with zero down and only pay $49.00 more than my previous payment . Couldn't get Black Cheery to match the scoot , but Black with the chrome package will do just fine . Here's some picks . BEER30
  8. I am trying to mount a Yeasu FT 10sr, it's an amateur radio. It consists of a control head and a box that contains the actual radio that is separated by a cable. I can not find a good spot for the box. It is about 4 inches square and 2 deep but needs room in front for the antenna connections. The cable between the two boxes is not quite long enough to go back to the trunk if I have the control head mounted high on the handle bars. I may be able to get it into the trunk by moving the control head further down the bars but was wondering if anyone knows another spot that would accommodate the box? There doesn't appear to be any room under the seat or behind each side cover. Anywhere else where there's some space?
  9. I've searched but to no avail to find a thread on how to set the cb radio on the first edition. Due to a small mishap ruining mine, I picked up a replacement from Buckeye Performance. I even went out and picked up a SWR meter. But exactly how does not go about matching a new antenna on the first edition, or for that matter any stock m/c cb radio. I am lost. I'm sure there is lots of expertise out there so please help. It won't be long before heading out on about a 1400 miles ride to Big Bend, Texas so I'd really like to be able communicate well. Thanks all.
  10. Figured this would be a little different and might prove to provide some laughs. What song is the absolute worst of all time? Im voting anything by Barry Manilow, Rod Stewart, Neil Sedaka or the Spice Girls. But i said one song.....soooooooo I dunno there are so many that really suck! Achey Breaky Heart? The Macharania? I wanna punch my radio out when I hear them. Im going with.....an old 70's song.....Seasons in the Sun! ACK! No Wait....That stupid song Barney used to sing...I love you you love me. HOLY SMOKE
  11. Well, it appears that either my amp or tuner has coughed its guts. It was working ok. Then, the tuner started throwing feedback noise and not picking up stations. Figured it was the antenna. Installed a new antenna and thought all was great. Then it did it again. Went from great radio to nothing but noise. When the radio and intercom are off I can hear a small bit of white noise from the speakers. Also, I do not hear the CB through the dash speakers when I turn the squelch off. I see RX on the CB screen. I think one unit or the other is getting warmed up then cutting out. I don't have headsets yet. So, don't know if the intercom is working. All buttons except AM/FM work. That one is stuck in FM. I cleaned the upper display by taking it apart and using a good contact cleaner. I have to Ohm out the buttons yet. So, any suggestions would be helpful. Pinwall Cycle has the amp and tuner off of a working bike for $45.00 each and shipping. Figure I have to split the LH fairing to get to the radio. JB
  12. I have a noisy audio system. It's happens on all sources (radio, tape, intercom, CB) and is detectable in the speakers but worse in the headsets. It appears to be a noisy power issue. It changes pitch with RPM, and here is the thing I find strange: it decreases when the bike had additional electrical load. Brakes or driving lights cause it to go quieter, and the blinkers do just what you might expect, the noise gets quieter-then-louder...etc. I figure I'll check the ground on the system, as well as the ground on the factory noise filter. Do noise filters go bad? Any other ideas? Thanks, Jeremy
  13. I have been scouring the Internet this morning looking for a 6"-12" XM Radio antenna. Anybody have any leads? Thank you!!
  14. Anyone succesfully repaired 1st Gen radio buttons and how did you go about doing it? I'm not missing any button covers but not all my buttons work.
  15. I have noticed that most of you talk about XM radios and how you mounted the ant. etc. Does any one out there have a Sirius radio? or am I the only one? I had one in my vehicle and when I bought a new car it came with Sirius in it. So I moved the other one to my bike. I do have trouble keeping a good station, but I have ordered a "Sirius FM direct adapter/modulator from My Radio Store in hopes that will improve my signal. It should be here sometime this week. The radio and ant. are mounted on the left handle bar. I'm thinking about moving the ant. to the back of the bike. Any suggestions out there. Thanks, Ken
  16. Installed radio and speakers on bike. They sound really good with the mp3 player and radio both. Here are a few pictures. http://venturerider.org/forum/image.php?u=2000&type=sigpic&dateline=1179298656
  17. Can you show me some pics of how you mounted the ant.....Fred
  18. Just put some JM's in mine and wife helmets. My wife's bike does not have a radio. Anyone know of a way (adapter cord) to connect the 5-pin to an MP3 player?
  19. Hi, Question?? My radio/ cassette on my 83 VR cuts in and out... Will sound fine out of both speakers while idling.. Put it in gear and sometimes it cuts out.. sometimes goes to one speaker or the other, sometimes sounds great. Same with Cass. Perfect at times.. almost nil at others.. a good bang on the volume switch will occasionally fix it otherwise not.. I have heard that the pins sometimes are bent or do not connect well... Looking at another radio or 2 on e-bay... not the best luck? Any similar experiences or successes. I have thought about retro fitting a marine radio. but would really prefer to keep factory.. Clay
  20. Hey Y'all, I might be blind and my site searches are not working to well. I could have sworn that I saw posts on fixing a ribbon cable behind the console that gets messed up over time. I am doing the speedometer lube stuff (pulled the whole thing out and tore it down to the speedometer, I should have read the instructions better) as mine was squealing louder than the radio (iPod and Radio volume combined) this Friday (whew, was it cold that day). Since i was here already, i figured i would check it out. Can someone help me out on this? PS. JT, I am still here!
  21. Hows everything going in your neck of the woods......made any more mods to the 1300. I am still trying to find some lowers like you made, for mine, and no luck, so if you know where I can get some , please let me know. I finally ordered my radio system for mine along with the CB. Check them out. Hope the system works as good as others I have heard, for the price its unbelievable what you get and the system uses the 5 pin plug that comes standard on the Venture. I have heard the CB over mine and it sounds just as good as the one on the 1st gen. Hope that mine sounds just a good. You can check them out at the links below. Found the intercom system and intergrator at CBXMAN MOTORCYCLES & ACCESSORIES As soon as I get it installed I will post a review here in case anyone else is looking for a good system thats reasonable........take a look and see what all comes with it..........I got all of it including shipping, which was free for both, for under $275.00. If I add the Sirius radio into the price that makes the total just $305.00. Portable CB Radio MotoComm RiderLink ST-1
  22. You gotta hear this, brought a tear to my eye, my sister-in-law heard this on the radio in Houston, Tx. A remarkable phone call from a 12-yr old boy to Houston radio station KSBJ FM 89.3. So profound, the station has it posted on their website. Click below to listen to it. It's short. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCdZwitrNoY]YouTube - Logan, the Sky Angel Cowboy[/ame]
  23. I have a new Kenwood TK-3130 handheld radio. I just bought it about three months ago for my other system. The problem now is I have this radio but no way to use it on my Venture. Anyone have any ideas on how to integrate this into the Venture system. I would like to use it because all of our riders have the same. Thanks http://www.kenwoodusa.com/Communications/Business_Radio/ProTalk®/TK-3130
  24. I have noticed, when browsing the Members list, that there are quite a few Amateur Radio ops on here. I am looking at possibly installing a Dual Band Yaesu FT-10 on the bike. Yaesu came out with this new weatherproof VHF/UHF Dual-Bander, and it looks like a good radio to mount on a bike. Comes with AM/FM receive too! (wont need that). You can get a handlebar mount, and a bluetooth headset/mic, and even an amplified speaker if needed. Has anyone mounted one of these yet? If you have this radio or some other ham radio installation on the bike, how about some pics? Years ago, I mounted a handheld on the tank of a Sportster, but it was not a good match. The vibrations the bike put out shook the radio too violently to operate well when moving. I did wire up a noise cancelling boom mic, and eventually solved some of the vibration problem, but I'm thinking the Venture and this new radio might be the way to go. I might look at one of the CB/AM-FM spitters to combine my broadcast receiver and the CB on the one CB antenna, then this would enable me to convert (or replace) the existing AM/FM antenna to a dual band (maybe comet/diamond) whip. Any ideas/experience?
  25. Well this has me a little p!$$ed. One of the reasons I bought the Zumo 550 was because it has XM Radio (with subscription). Turns out, the only antenna they sell is for weather, traffic and radio and it is very expensive. I just want a antenna for the XM radio. I can't find one anywhere. From what I can tell, the antenna hookup in the Zumo cradle is a special end. Seems while shopping around for an antenna, the ends are different for different brands of XM Radio's. I was thinking about ordering only the cable from Garmin, buying a $30 antenna and splicing the Garmin cable to it. Has anyone tried this? Is it possible? Is there an antenna that will work on the Zumo for ONLY the XM Radio? Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.
