  1. I have found a recessed trailer hitch for my '08 RSTD. (About $160.) I have seen some of you with a rack that attaches to the trailer hitch to hold coolers or small luggage. Where did you get these or did you make them yourself. I'm looking for something to use on my out of state rides. Thanks!
  2. I know that this is a yamaha site, but I've been looking for a sissy bar that will fit a 78 GoldWing with a 9" luggage rack. If I can find a bar in good shape I can do away with the luggage rack. The old bike is a lot like a venture in that I can't find aftermarket parts anywhere.:bang head:
  3. Hello to all and let me just thank you all for helping me with this question. I'm looking into getting a trunk rack to be able to carrie extra stuff can anyone tell me how much weight can I put on top of the rack and is it a good idea to get it. thanks again for the responds from all.
  4. which one is better im looking at both and noticed that the only Diffrence is size but wieght capacity is about the same, now I have found throught cyclegiant.com a rack that should fit both GW or the RSV pic quality not the greatest but the price is pretty good for only 73 bucks, for the rack OME through yamaha I can get it for 100 buck give and tack. Now my question for those that have seen both or even had both is, which one in quality is a better product? :bang head:
  5. Hello All, Need a little help here. Looking at a piece of Iron rider luggage. The over night bag. Problem I think is I have a 07 midnight with the chrome rack on the trunk. Will strapping the bag to the rack spider the paint? Or would it be better to strap it down under the truck? Any help would be great. :confused24:
  6. Looking to add a rack to my trunk what years will fit..how about Honda, H.D., etc.will any others work? Been watching Ebay... any other rack vendors? I have a broken antenna so how about the Marshall Mod , I have read about it , will it give better FM/ CB reception? Not really worried about transmitting as would rather listen. Will the thin Harley style whips , from the ultra classic, work with this set up?
  7. Anybody have any suggestions on a less expensive alternative to the Yamaha luggage rack for an '06 RSV? If so, are they relatively easy to install?
  8. I've been looking for Saddlebag lid racks in the same style as the truck rack for my '07 RSV. Does anyone have any suggestions?
  9. Picked up "Black Betty", a 2007 RSTD Midnight from the dealer yesterday. Since I have been lurking while looking for my bike, I had already decided to put the Road Star luggage rack on it instead of the flimsier looking (and more expensive) RSTD one. I have the rack but need some input from people that have done this. The rack's license plate mounting bracket seems to be about 1/8 of an inch (didn't measure) to long and when eyeballed with the seat bolt aligned extends past the license plate bracket. One post I read said it fit with "some manipulation". What sort of manipulation has anyone used to install this? okscott aka "Porkalope"
  10. I apologize if this should have been under accessories but it seems to be a typical RSTD/RSTC question. I have a 98 Royal Star Classic where the previous owner added a Silverado windshield, hard bags and a sissybar with pad. I plan to do a lot of solo traveling, so I want to do the following: 1) replace the stock driver seat with my Corbin seat as a solo seat, remove the passenger seat and put a rack in place of that (I believe there was an OEM rack for the tour classic) 2) I want to keep the sissybar in place to attach a Riggpack to but would also like to add a luggage rack to the sissybar. I know it sounds redundant, but the idea is to ride solo (I weigh 314 lbs), have the Riggpack hanging over where the passenger seat was (but sitiing on the rack that replaced it) and still a sissybar luggage rack available for light items. Does anyone know where I can get (or have for sale), the solo rack and a luggage rack for a ten year old RSTC? You guys are such a wealth of info and thank you for all the other things you have helped me with already. Thanx
  11. Hi Guys! I just got my new cooler rack from Al's Motorcycle Accesories (Wow he does nice work!) Now, with the cooler sitting in the rack it (of course) blocks my turn signal lights. So, I would like to hook-up a couple of LED turn-signals to the back of the rack. My Diamond-R LED brakelight which is mounted under the trunk, takes care my brakelight issues, so now I just need some LED, turn signal lights which look complementary to everything else back there. Hopefully, I can find ones which can be mounted flush against the mesh along the backside of my cooler rack. Power for the cooler rack lights will come from my trailer hitch power plug. Please, let me know if you have any suggestions. I don't want to spend too much on them, but I do want them to look like they were meant to be there. I will attach a couple of pics so that you can get a better idea of what I'm working with. Thanks in advance & Be Safe! Pete.
  12. This is the instructions for those who want to remove the trunk from their RSV. At the end of the post is a method to make the trunk a quick release item. I hope this clears up any questions about this post. Start by taking the seats off and unplugging everything under the rear seat that plugs into the trunk. Figure 1 is the location of the bolts holding the rear seat on. Then remove the trunk from the chrome rack it sits on by removing the six bolts inside the trunk pictured in figure 2 and 3. If you don't use the CB much you can either take the whole black box located under the trunk off or unplug the antenna and stuff all the wires inside the box (I chose to keep the box on so I didn't misplace it.). I also removed the CB antenna and mount from the trunk rack. On the trunk right below the passenger backrest, there is a rectangular panel held on by four bolts shown in figure 4. I removed the panel and tucked the passenger communication cord in there so it is out of the way but can still be retrieved and plugged in for use. Leave the other two black plugs out. Those are for the speakers and when you put the trunk back on you might want to plug those back in. Remove the passenger grab handles. I took mine off completely because my wife said she didn't use them and I didn't want the hassle of putting them back on with the trunk. There is also a ground wire bolted to the trunk rack that you can remove and tuck under the back seat. The speakers will still work without it. Open both saddlebags. Unbolt the radio antenna and lay it across the open saddlebag. Now there are only four bolts holding the trunk rack on the bike. Remove those bolts and the rack should come off. Bolt the trunk back onto the rack. I went to Kragen and bought the antenna pictured in figure 5 and mounted it inside the front fairing. It works well and allowed me to remove the antenna on the trunk. Put the seats back on leaving the plugs for the speakers on the trunk out. After you get the seats installed, tuck the plugs up under the rear seat so they are easy to get to when you want to install the trunk. I am going to slot the holes on the trunk rack where it bolts to the bike. This will speed up installing and removing the trunk. I will let you know how it goes and I will get some pics up as soon as I can. If I was unclear with anything please let me know. Sorry for the length of this but I just wanted to make sure I didn't leave out any details.
  13. Just wondering if anyone is using a rack in their receiver hitch. Where did you get it and how do you like it? I'm not too sure about the one Rivco makes. Eddie
  14. I am looking for the trunk rack for my first gen. Mine is good but I want to modify one for a rear setback of about 2 inches. I am watching one on e-bay but don't want to get in a bidding war if it is someone who has a broken one. If anyone has such a critter, let me know if you want to sell it. JB
  15. I am preparing to repaint my 83, and understand that the 86 and later had a larger trunk than the 83-85. A larger trunk would be nice, but not having seen one to compare, is there a significant difference? Does it mount on the same rack? Not that I have seen one for sale recently that was worth buying, but since I am getting ready to paint, now would be the time to make the switch. Any advice would be appreciated.
  16. The trunk rack on my 05 RSV has started to rust. I want to replace it, but I don't know what brand it is. Is there a way to tell if it's a yamaha brand, or some other. Also are the mounting points the same for any rack made for the Venture. Maybe some one can give me some mearsurements of the mounting points so I can get a replacement. Thanks
  17. http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/tx2sturgis/rack/th_IMG_0892.jpghttp://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/tx2sturgis/rack/th_IMG_0889.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/tx2sturgis/rack/th_IMG_0890.jpghttp://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/tx2sturgis/rack/th_IMG_0888.jpghttp://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/tx2sturgis/rack/th_IMG_0891.jpg So...I didnt mess with the alumaloy after all...built this out of some aluminum I found at a salvage yard here. I know, its VERY ugly, but no-one will see it except with the tent on it. I needed something to hold my tent, since I hate to carry it up high on the bike. The rear lighting is still visible, and if I decide to strap on a cooler sometime, I'll add some lighting. In the pics, it looks like the exhaust is blocked, but actually, the rack is above the exhaust stream..I checked! Thanks to all who contributed.
  18. Hey Guys! Spring is here and it's time to put the finishing touches on my new trailer set-up. The next step is to install a nice cooler rack. I found one which looks like a good at: http://www.alsmotorcycleaccessories.com/new_cooler_rack.html So far, this looks like the best deal. However, it's always a good idea to check lots of options and see what other people recommend. I had one idea that I don't know exactly how practical it is, but I think that it's do-able. I would like to figure out a way to be able to set-up the cooler rack so that I can use it with my trailer, or remove it and use it solo as just a hitch attachment. If this can't be done, then I would just like to get one to install on the trailer arm. Then, maybe I'll get another one to use solo. So, what do you suggest? What do you like? I don't want to spend crazy money on this, but I want to be satisfied. Are there any special considerations I should be aware of, or is it just a simple matter of attaching it and that's it? Thanks for the help! Pete.
  19. I love the look of the luggage rack on my bike. Problem now, the had such close clearance before that now I cannot close the lid with my fullface helmet becuase the bold heads will rub. Aside from trying to find carriage type bolts to fit, any ideas? Even before the rack, my wifes Scorpion full-face would not fit anyhow unless I took the mat out of the bottom.
  20. Does anyone happen to have a picture of how the luggage rack attaches to the RSTD? I bought one without the mounting hardware (cause it was cheap), but it doesn't seem as simple as I thought to mount it. Am I SOL? Thanks for the help, you all are the best! On a side note, sometimes being a cheap SOB doesn't really help.
  21. I just ordered this set of saddle bag liners and trunk bag along with a trunk rack from JC whitney. I hope it isnt junk. Does anyone else have this set? http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/tf-VehicleBrowse/s-10101/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2012265/p-2012265/currentRecordCount-0/N-111+2007+200004571+600014545/c-10111 and here is the trunk rack http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Search?catalogId=10111&storeId=10101&sku=CBM010781 i did read that the trunk rack may rust a bit in the joints. we'll see.
  22. I was looking at a 1996 tour classic and I really like th luggage rack on the rear fender behind the backrest. My question is will it fit on a 2nd gen without a trunk and if so where can I buy one?
  23. Does anyone know if the T-Bag Dekker Supreme, made for Harley truck racks will fit on Yamaha's Venture trunk rack ? If not, what other large luggage bags are available to sit on top of the RSV truck rack. Many thanks, Robert
  24. Anyone have any problems with cracking of the plastic of the lid after instaklling the chrome metal rack? Reason I ask is the after-market trunk box I bought for my Sabre developed cracks where each hole was drilled into the lid and this Yamaha box appears to be same material - (whether it is or not not sure). I would rather have a box with no cracks and no rack than a box with cracks and a rack!
  25. I bought a Bestem trunk rack bag from Custom Backrest and it doesn't appear to attach to the rack well. It is supposedly specifically for the RSV trunck rack. It uses velcro straps - I haven't used it yet, but it seems at highway speeds the wind would pull it off. Has anyone had experience with this? http://cruiserbackrest.com/images/yamaha_venture_rack_bag.jpg I'm getting prepared for a little trip and am a bit concerned. Thanks, all.
