  1. Cooper tire just announced they are closing the Albany plant. 1300 people will lose their job.
  2. I wonder how many people pay attention to where the item they buy comes from. I dare anyone to go to Wally world and pick up 10 items at random and get over 10% made in the usa. That means 90% made out of states. Many times I've put something back on the shelf and refused to buy it because it's made in china. What say the other smart people here?? www.ridingformissions.com
  3. I don't have any flashing trees or reindeer noses to send out, but I would like to wish everyone a merry CHRISTMAS!!! I'd like to thank Don for this website and all the people I've met through it during the year! Take Care and God bless us in 2009! Ken & Jackie Wasielak
  4. If I were looking for a refurbished GPS for the bike what is the best, easyest to read, water resistant, user friendly, biggest screen for quick viewing, best software, out there? It seams like every few months the price comes down and they get better. Do most people use all the extras that come with the higher priced ones? What is the web sight that has them for sale? Many Thanks for any help.
  5. I need to clean the saddles on my MM RSV. If anyone could recommend a good product for that job it would be appreciated. Also, just wanted to say that the response I've gotten from the people on this site is fantastic. You people love your Venture's. Hope I end up enjoying mine as much. So far so good.
  6. Was not sure what to call it but is there anyway to stop the a post from being to far acrss the page that I have to scroll to the right to read the whole post. Only happens on some posts, seems like when people get a little crazy with the smiles. If it is my computer any suggestions on how to fix it as it annoying, and very hard to read. Brad
  7. Sorry, couldn't let this Yamaha go by with out someone seeing it! I see a potential problem for big people like me. (Hey Snarly Bill it will go 0 to 60 in 3 seconds!!!!!) 2010 VENTURE
  8. i just recieved a pm from a member wanting to know what kind of events will take place at the 09 rally in arkansas. so rather than just tell him, i thought i would post on here for people who have never been there. first off the area we will be in is some of the most beautiful and best riding country in the usa. since we are expecting such a large turn out we will have maps available for various rides so people can group up and go sight seeing on there own. eureka springs is about 40 miles away and is one awesome tourist area.there is so much history and unique things to see in the old town area. the hub where the host motel is is a motorcycle resort with a nice motel, restaurant, meeting hall and is the starting point for many good rides away from town. the hub motel is full of our people exclusively and the resort will be ours for the meet duration. there are motels listed in nearby harrison ,9 mile from the hub, and they are listed under rides and rallies. we will be in the heart of the arkansas hill country and the scenery is unblievable. bring your cameras the picture taking is endless. we will be close to beaver lake, taneycoma, bullshoals, and branson is a nice day ride for anyone wanting to head up there. as for shopping the area is a shoppers paradise. you could spend days in eureka springs alone. there are ferry rides, eateries, and craft and antique shops everywhere. i could go on and on and not cover half of the things to do. if anyone else who knows the area wants to chime in and elaborate on the stuff i have missed or forgot. please do so this will be a big help to the folks that are trying to decide whether or not to make it next year to hopefully the biggest event the venture riders have ever had. we are expecting a record turnout for this one so we are giving it our all. any questions chime in and some one on the site will have an answer if i don't. looking forward to meeting alot of new people and seeing my old friends. bill
  9. .....today I went on the Patriot Guard Riders website (haven't for a while) and went to the Letters of Appreciation....read on page 22 the following: 11/3/08 Oh goodness....I have no clue as to where to start. This makes me cry and makes me laugh and if I offend anyone, I ask you NOW ....before you read any further ..... to please forgive me....and my deceased husband! *smile* I cannot begin to tell you how many times we have seen in passing a group of you Guards....had no clue as to who you were, where you were going or where you had been! You could have been up to no good for all we knew! ...(you know....the bikes, the hair, the tattoos, the leather.....) Sometimes people can't see the forest for the trees.....this is so true with us. Neither John (my husband that you rode for) nor I like tattoos....in fact., we can't stand them! When we'd see people with them we would cringe! I'd say, "Why would anyone mess up their beautiful skin?"...and he'd agree....and we'd pass the "burley-looking" men and their women and wonder....really wonder....what kind of people they were. Well, let me tell you right now......I now know WHO you are and WHAT you do and WHERE you've been ....OR ARE GOING! ........ Don't be surprised if some time when you are out and about standing in some parking lot and some ole lady walks up to you and squeezes you to pieces without saying a word.....'cause I probably won't be able to speak for being so touched!....to just accept my big ole hug! From both John and myself! He would have been so proud! You did him good! I will NEVER look upon another "Biker" as a burley-ole-soul with nothing to do 'cept ride around on their bike! I ask you to forgive me....and John...for passing judgment when we had no clue! You people are the best! I cannot begin to thank you enough for everything you did for this family and what you do for other families. When I win the lottery I'm going to make a huge contribution! *smile* And for the person who played Taps.....thank you, thank you, thank you! All you dear, wonderful men and women of the PGR hold a special place in my heart! In loving memory of my husband, John L. O'Connor, SSGT USAF DOB 03/10/30 DOD 10/25/08 Barb O'Connor WOW! Broke me up....reminded me why I ride with the PGR....since moving down here to Southern California with the new job, just haven't had time to ride much, haven't been on a PGR mission since I've been down.....got to make some time in my life again to RIDE WITH RESPECT.... Have a good day everyone and remember, we can make a difference....
  10. This was sent to me by my old friend Dan'l Lowery. I think it was posted long ago but is worth posting again. A LOT of truths here. Motorcycle Wisdom – Four wheels move the body. Two wheels move the soul. Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle. Life may begin at 30, but it doesn't get real interesting until about 90 mph! You start the game of life with a full pot o' luck and an empty pot o' experience... The object is to fill the pot of experience before you empty the pot of luck. If you wait, all that happens is that you get older. Midnight bugs taste just as bad as noontime bugs. Saddlebags can never hold everything you want, but they CAN hold everything you need. It takes more love to share the saddle than it does to share the bed. Blacktop or concrete is hard and hurts when you hit it at 55mph\\ The only good view of a thunderstorm is in your rearview mirror. Never be afraid to slow down. Don't ride so late into the night that you sleep through the sunrise. Sometimes it takes a whole tankful of fuel before you can think straight. Riding faster than everyone else only guarantees you'll ride alone. Never hesitate to ride past the last street light at the edge of town. Never do less than forty miles before breakfast. If you don't ride in the rain, you don't ride. A bike on the road is worth two in the shed. Respect the person who has seen the dark side of motorcycling and lived. Young riders pick a destination and go... Old riders pick a direction and go. A good mechanic will let you watch without charging you for it. Sometimes the fastest way to get there is to stop for the night. Always back your bike into the curb, and sit where you can see it. Work to ride & ride to work. Whatever it is, it's better in the wind. Two-lane blacktop isn't a highway - it's an attitude. When you look down the road it seems to never end – but you'd better believe it does! Winter is Nature's way of telling you to polish. Keep your bike in good repair. Motorcycle boots are NOT comfortable for walking. People are like motorcycles: each is customized a bit differently. Sometimes, the best communication happens when you're on separate bikes. Good coffee should be indistinguishable from 50-weight motor oil. The best alarm clock is sunshine on chrome. The twisties - not the superslabs -separate the riders from the squids. When you're riding lead, don't spit. When your following, lookout for airborne objects A friend is someone who'll get out of bed at 2:00 am to drive his pickup to the middle of nowhere to get you when you're broken down. Catching a yellow-jacket in your shirt at 70 mph can double your vocabulary. If you want to get somewhere before sundown, you can't stop at any taverns. There's something ugly about a NEW bike on a trailer. Don't lead the pack if you don't know where you're going. Practice wrenching on your own bike. Everyone crashes. Some get back on. Some don't. Some can't. Don't argue with an 18-wheeler. Never be ashamed to unlearn an old habit. A good, long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel. If you can't get it going with bungee cords and electrician's tape, it's serious. If you ride like there's no tomorrow, there won't be. Bikes parked out front mean good chicken-fried steak inside. There are drunk riders. There are old riders. There are NO old, drunk riders. Thin leather looks good in the bar, but it won't save your butt from road rash if you go down. The best modifications cannot be seen from the outside. Always replace the cheapest parts first. You can forget what you do for a living when your knees are in the breeze. Patience is the ability to keep your motor idling. Biker's know why dogs stick their head out the window. There are two types of people in this world, people who ride motorcycles and people who wish they could ride motorcycles. Never try to race an old geezer; he may have one more gear than you. Gray-haired riders don't get that way from pure luck.
  11. At least some people still decorate. Not as many decorations out, compared to a years ago. Brad

  16. Hi people, A couple of weeks ago while browsing on the internet I saw something that might help me. It was a company that sold a little pocket (two to a set) for you headphones that attached to the webbing of you helmet. My wife and I have about four helmets apiece but none of them are full face or full helmets so regular setups from Chatterbox won't work. I'm like most people as I visit a hundred or more sites a week but I can't remember where I saw these pockets Anyone got any ideas? Joshua
  17. We decided to meet up with some great people and go on the brown county run today. I must say there are alot of nice people out there that I finally got to put a face with the name. Thanks everyone for a great day we both had a good time! Kevin:Venture:
  18. Anyone here "Darksided" their bike? "Darkside" = car tire on rear of bike. I have seen vids and done lots of research on this. Stronger sidewalls. Longer treadlife. I have talked to a few people on a Roadstar forum that I belong to about it. Lots of people say it cant be done or its to dangerous....I have seen underbike camera footage showing bikes cornering sharply and maintaining tread contact with the road and showing that radial tires actully "round out" a bit as you corner thus maintaining that contact patch. Found lots of vids about it on YouTube.
  19. Ok, let's do this simple. As some of you knows, I'm not born in US, but leaving here for almost 9 years already. I have a niece (Sobrina) in Argentina, that is making a job for her career on the university about different cultures, and as soon as she knew that I was part of a motorcycle riding group, she proposed to make a study about why this kind of groups exists, what are the reason for the people to become part of it, requirements to participate, and the whole 9th yards.... So, as the matter has introduced, please I and she will apretiate any feedback on this. Remember, we 're strange people for her, since over there there are no groups like us. Regards,
  20. Some people are very bold. There is a escalating crisis in this country. I'm talking about people driving with suspended license,no insurance, and under the influence of something not to mention unsafe vehicles. It seems to be normal for people to drive everyday many crossing state lines. Construction workers, utility crews, etc drinking up the paycheck every weekend with no conscience or thought for what they do or the people on the highway at risk. We all might want to raise our uninsured coverage and just hope for the best. I know several contractors who still have help wanted signs posted. The only qualification to get a job is to have a drivers licensee for a $12 an hr job.
  21. I was going to try a poll, but can't see how, so I'll just ask the question. What do you get to the gallon from your venture in normal riding (whatever that is ?) I'm asking because when I asked this before, comments seemed to be divided between those who regularly managed 45-50 to the gallon or even more and assumed anyone who got less drove like a nutter, and those who returned 30-35 to the gallon and could not get more no matter how they rode. I have felt for a long time that there must be two specifications of carburettor, or something that can be set two ways or that can fail, that means some people get good mpg while others don't. I've made up a little table to help people understand international posts - UK/imperial mpg vs USA mpg vs metric litres/100Km. mpg (uk) mpg (us) l/100km 20 17 14.1 25 22 11.3 30 26 9.4 35 30 8.0 40 35 7.0 45 39 6.3 50 43 5.6 55 48 5.1 I get about 30mpg (UK) with a sidecar, pulling a trailer, on a run; but I only used to get about 33-35mpg solo. I've checked the float height, balanced the carbs, changed the plugs (currently iridium) and put on an easy flowing air filter. For me this is the crunch point for its use as a tourer - I'd so like an improvement before our long tour this Summer - both because of the cost of petrol and the limited tank range.
  22. Eck sent these to me a few days ago and I think they are pretty cool. Some people are just very creative.
  23. Well, finally added some pictures of my (new) Royal Star Tour Classic II 1998 that I bought in June from a very nice gentleman in Woodstock New York. Same year, model and color as the one I have back here in Iceland. Will be coming to Don´s Maintenance Day next spring to ride the bike and meet all you great people attending this website. Like I told Mini-Muffin the other day - This is a community of the greates biker people in the USA and couple of other countrys and I am proud and honored to be a member. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

  25. I hear it more and more today that STRESS is now the nations number 1 killer. I think most of us can say our stress levels are elevated compared to years gone by. People in my state work for some of the lowest wage averages nationwide, have farther to drive to work, and little time for exercise. It's a wonderful place to visit or retire in the country but making ends meet is tough. I'm saddened by todays research findings but facts are facts. Riding the venture is good therapy but crossing that creek creates more stress then I like. Here is part of the article. September 11, 2008 W.Va. No. 1 for stress, Cambridge study says Link found between anxiety, poor health Are West Virginians stressed to the max? By Eric Eyre Staff writer Are West Virginians stressed to the max? Apparently so, according to a study released Wednesday. West Virginia is home to the highest percentage of stressed-out people in the United States, research from the University of Cambridge suggests. West Virginians are more anxious, impulsive and stressed than residents of any other state - even New York, which ranked third - according to the study. "I've only driven through West Virginia, but it did surprise me that West Virginia was No. 1," said Dr. Jason Rentfrow, the study's author and a social and political science lecturer at Cambridge in England. "It didn't surprise me that the mid-Atlantic states were high. It may be that neuroticism is high in some states for different reasons." The reasons for West Virginia's high score: Researchers found a connection between stress and poor health. In West Virginia, people exercise less. Heart disease and cancer rates are sky-high. Life spans are shorter than just about anywhere else. West Virginians also were less likely to go out and spend time with friends. Entertainment and the arts don't flourish in stressed-out states, according to the study. "Obviously, it's not as simple as saying that a person is guaranteed to be more anxious if they come from West Virginia ... but we did find pretty clear signs that there are meaningful differences in the personalities of people living in different areas of the U.S.," Rentfrow said. Rentfrow and fellow researchers used the results of more than 500,000 surveys to create a "personality map" of the U.S., showing different types of people are more likely to live in different parts of the country. I'll be camping again this weekend. NO PHONES
