  1. I'm going back to 2 wheels and need three more oem parts...the muffler stays....anyone still have theirs..if so e-mail me at long_black_train@cableone.net....THANKS IN ADVANCE....Carl....
  2. I have an 84 Venture and removed both wheels to have new tires put on. I got the instructions on this website and they were great. When I removed the right muffler, a small piece of baffle came out of the exhaust pipe. It looked like a bent piece of kitchen sink drain. I did not put it back in. After reassembilng my bike I test rode it and things were fine. The next day I filled it up with gas and road 250 miles. About 3 miles out the motor began to hesitate when I increased the throttle at low rpms. I reinstalled the little piece of baffle and it ran the same. I took off the other muffler and their was no piece of baffle. Needless to say I am baffled. Why is it running poorly?
  3. Just installed new fishtails. My old ones came right off and the new ones slipped right on. Almost too easy thanks to Rick's knob bolts on the saddlebags. The hardest part was getting the stickers off that warned "might not meet EPA standards" . I need chrome muffler and muffler support clamps. Where is the best source for these items? Thanks for any help! PS: They fit so well that I went around the block without clamps-sounds like an old muscle V8 from the sixties.
  4. The saga continues. My 1996 RS that I recently purchased and have been working my way thru its issues has come up with still another problem. If the bike is left running at idle all is ok. If you take the bike out for a ride and get it hot cylinder #1 smokes/burns oil real bad. Shut it off let it cool and start it again all will be ok till you take it out for a ride. I found oil on the outside of the muffler for cylinder #1 about 1/4" back also inside the muffler ( they are slash cut mufflers). I pulled the plug for #1 and it was ok, also compression for that cylinder is good.
  5. Will the mufflers off of a 84 1200 fit on an 86 1300 ?
  6. How many here.... have after market pipes..... on their scoot ....and.... makes? I dont know what the ruling in each State is ......But...... in ontario..... They are illegal Than why do the Muffler Maufactures prodruce them?
  7. Looking for set of mufflers for 1988 venture, found holes at the connection point of the muffler & tips...she won't pass state inspection.... Anyone have a set in the corner of their garage we could work out a deal.... cimack77
  8. I am seriously considering buying a 2nd VR. This one is an 86 model that needs a bit of work, but has low mileage. One issue is the left side muffler. The owner told me that there is a problem which he suggested could be caused by a restriction such as a mouse nest. When I looked at the bike, the muffler was noticeably blue from overheating. Any thoughts on likely causes and related fixes?
  9. Old question but can anyone steer me to a member who makes these brackets. Thanks for the help.
  10. I have had these mufflers on for 3 seasons and would like to repack the fiberglass in them, assuming there is some. I tried to pull the baffle out the back of the muffler, it will turn but it will only come so far. Anyone had the same problem?
  11. I have notice that my right muffler has a carbon buildup (black sut)at the end of the muffler, any ideas of what is going on? The left is clean.
  12. I was one of the first to jump on Condor's MAC muffler offer a few weeks ago. They arrived safe & sound & looked awesome in the box. I had to wait for the never-ending rains to finally move through, and MacGyver some impromptu gaskets as the previous owner (or at least one of the 5 previous owners) had used a metal reinfoced muffler tape in place of proper gaskets. I happened to mention that in my thanks to Condor, via a PM, and lo and behold, the man sends me gaskets ! From California all the way to Ontario ! Thanks again, Jack. I got them today, and had them installed in less than 20 minutes. I think they look world's better than the original stockers I had as they were a little beat up. Worse, they were full of deteriorated baffle pieces and sloshed like 30 pound maracas. The new MAC's sound incredible - it's actually a motorcycle now ! Not obnoxious, but a definite rumble, and I really, really like it. So, the prerequisite pics : I apologize if the quality isn't the greatest - I used a new software package tonight to resize these, and I think the sharpness degraded quite a bit. The first pic is the bike (obviously) with my other new baby, 2009 Dodge Ram Crew Cab 4x4 with the 390 HP 5.7L Hemi (very fun). The second shows a better pic of the muffler. Please ignore the big hack on the bikini panel on the right side of the bike as I am still burning about that (search threads using "pine cone"). Best of all, we finally have a week here that is 100% sunshine. It's just real cold in the morning (about 42 degrees F this morning), but that sure doesn't stop me. Thanks again, Jack !
  13. Guys I put my stock mufflers back on the RSV.No this isnt about who does or does not like loud pipes,I just got tired of the noise on LONG trips. The Lesson Learned.....CHECK YOU PART NUMBERS ON ANY PART YAMAHA SELLS YOU. I worked 5 hours trying to make my Exhaust gaskets fit on the Bike. I look at the part number....The last 5 numbers that is..Humm it says 14714,Why isnt it working,do I need to beat the gasket flatter to get it to fit proper? It fit in the muffler end..Whats the problem. I call Ponch , He says its real easy. I call Roadhand,"No problem Tom Just put it on and slide the muffler on"..OK another 45 minutes I am now about to stroke out so I go look at the part # on the Internet parts catalog The full Part # is 3XW-14714-00-00..well I said Thats what I have...Puzzled so I look at the package the guy gave me...Part # 4NNK-14714-00-00..(wrong Number) What a dumb a$$..I put the mufflers on in 20 minutes after getting the correct part. The part #4NNK-14714-00-00 is the gasket for the header pipe. Lesson is what all our wives have told Us,READ THE DIRECTIONS, in this case READ THE PART number. Im writing this to give a heads up as it was frustrating to say the least. Be safe Tom
  14. I have recently purchased the harley mufflers to complete the exhaust mod for my RSV. From the posts I have seen, the baffle drill out is to be done with a 1 1/8" hole saw. My question is, is this the correct size? The pipe coming from the center of the muffler is closer to 1 5/8"... I also notice looking down the pipe from the tail end, that one pipe has a "wavey" baffle that does not complete a solid plate, while the other muffler has an area that looks like 4 parts coming together. Can someone help clue me in here so that i perform this correctly.. I am also curious if there are any changes that will need to be made to the carbs...
  15. For the last couple of weeks, I've heard this jingling/jangling sound coming from low on the left of my '03 Midnight. Sounded like the spring in my side stand had given way and the stand assembly was banging up and down against the frame and/or the pipe. The sound seemed too "tinny" though to be caused by the thick stand arm. I got down and looked around on a couple of different days, and saw nothing. Yesterday (first ride in a week) the rattle was so loud, I pulled off the road, not more than two blocks from the house, to see what HAD to be ready to fall off the bike. Still couldn't see anything hanging down. The sound is VERY annoying (to the point of being DANGEROUS sounding). So now I'm starting to suspect that it's a baffle or some other internal component of the left muffler that's come loose. Sounds like someone installed a stretched out coat-hanger INSIDE the muffler by spot welding it at one end.....and letting the other end dangle against the insides of the muffler can. When I bang the back end of the pipe with my fist, it sounds just as though I were shaking my toaster to try and remove a stuck bagel!! So, tell me........DO the baffles in the stock pipes come free of their welds on a Venture this age? CAN they be welded back in place? (Kinda doubt there's any access from up the pipe!) Lastly, and most apprehensively.......what's the least expensive way out of this problem? Thanks for any words of wisdom, guys.
  16. I'm thinking of doing the H-D muffler swap on my RSV and can get a set from an '08 Ultra Classic. I got to checking on info on removing the cat's and found out that some late model H-D's don't have cat's in the mufflers... the cat's are in the head pipe. Does anyone know where the cat is on the '08 Ultra Classic?
  17. :bang head:Please read my thread a few down from here if you haven't. I received a lot of great advice on the whole issue. I followed the directions on one of the links I received and this is where I'm at... This on new 07 RSTD. Started by taking plasma cutter and cut around the baffle that is connected to the cone. Cone then was loose, and came out without too much work. Then cut through the baffle plate that the baffle is also attached to. So now from the links I received here, one writer said all you have to do is wiggle, twist, and pull, and the baffle should slide out... I don't know if my pipes are slightly different because it is an 07 RSTD vs. other years, or vs. the Ventures(?) but the tack weld that should twist apart on my baffle about 6-8 inches further in is about 1/2 an inch long. We first tried to wiggle, twist, and pull.... didn't move whatsoever. Next welded metal attachment to the baffle we were trying to remove, connected big slide hammer to attachment, pounded away, and MAYBE moved it out an 1/8 to 1/4 inch. Problem with this method is that the muffler is off the bike and I had to hold it while my friend did the slide hammer. I couldn't hold it well enough. Then we detached slide hammer assembly from baffle and welded 1 inch diameter rod directly in baffle we wanted out. I then reattached muffler to bike thinking that this would hold pipe in place. On end of the metal rod that was now sticking 6 inches out of baffle, I put big pipe wrench on to do twisting motion and whole muffler moved instead of 1/2 inch tack welded baffle. Then realized muffler mounting tab had rubber grommets in it. Removed those and temporarily rebolted thinking it would be rigid. Tried to twist w/ pipe wrench again and will bend brackets and baffle stays stationary. I am so frustrated I'm ready to scream. If anybody has suggestions, they would all be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU, Blake - royal rider:bang head:
  18. I have a 97 RSTD 4 ito 2 exhast system . Wanted to play around with new slip-ons.The mufflers on it now are an aftermarket type. I cant get the slip-on section of the system to budge. Removed the rear muffler to frame bolt.Removed the clamp nut & bolt on the muffler, but I cant get the muffler off. Have tried using a chisel and punch and a small sledge hammer too. When I try moving the muffler around to try and break the seal it has made the whole muffler assymbly moves as well . I feel I am loosening other parts that should not be .Does anyone have suggestions for removing a stubborn muffler?
  19. has anybody seen or hear of these pipes? they look pretty good, wonder how they sound?http://motors.shop.ebay.com/merchant/allproparts2_W0QQ_nkwZQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZ
  20. I know if I put a Road King muffler on my 08 RSV, I will have to use some custom brackets for support. My question is: will I have to use a bushing or will it slip right on the pipes without a bushing?
  21. I am trying to order a set of chrome exhaust clamps in Canada. There are several references to USA suppliers (see below)- but not manufacturers. Would someone have the make and model of the best clamps to use for the RK muffler mod so that I could source them in canada? With a 28% exchange rate - these parts get expensive to order from the USA. Appreciate your help! Fits all 1 3/4" exhaust headers when attaching 1 7/8" O.D. mufflers Part Number: 24032 V twin mfg and are part # 31-9920
  22. I need to replace my mufflers and I am considering putting on a set of aftermarkets that a friend is giving me. I was told at one time someone posted specs of a pipe to make for between the collector and an aftermarket muffler. Specs would consist of pipe size (diameter), length, location of bend, and degree of bend. Does anyone have these specs or can they direct me where to find them at? Also, are there any ideas of how to cover this pipe to make it look nice such as chroming it, heat paint, powder coat, etc.? And, is there by chance any way to get this pipe already fabricated and chromed? Thanks for your help.
  23. Thanks!!! I got the mufflers on. I decided to drain the rearend fluid while I had everything off. I had to level the bike up so that all the fluid would drain out. I decided to hook a bungy cord to the bike to hold it up while I took the muffler off that side. I put my ratchet on the muffler clamp and pushed against it and the bike fell over. I broke my mirror. The mufflers sound GREAT. Thanks hairman:thumbsup2:
  24. I know...I know another RK Muffler question. I just wanted to check on something. I just got a very nice set of slash-cut Road King mufflers. They are off a 1998 model. Serial Numbers are: 65546-98 and 65547-98. From my reading here and other forums I understand that these will not contain the catalytic converter. However, when peering though the mufflers I noticed that I can see through the 65547-98 through a small center hole down in the muffler. I cannot see through the 65546-98. Is this normal or is there a problem with the one I can't see through?
