  1. My wife bought us a `01 RSV with only 2700 miles on it, and we picked it up yesterday, This bike is brand new, the only thing I have noticed, is that at the bottom of the Radiator where the fairings connect to each other, it looks like maybe there is a peice missing, or maybe just missing a bolt, any Ideas?? Is this common on these bikes?? Thanks
  2. I apologize for so many questions. I am not a dummy...but I sure feel and am acting like one. I haven't got my new plates yet...so I look back there where they had the temp plate, take it off and this is what I see. I think something is missing...surely they don't sell the venture without a cover for these exposed wires.
  3. I have several versions of the 83 Service Manual that I have downloaded and they are all missing some common pages. Pages are only partially scanned and have large black areas on them. There are 10 pages missing or incomplete. I included page 183 below so you can see what I am referring to. Would someone that has a hard copy manual please scan these pages and send them to me. The higher the scan resolution the better. I have the software that I can replace the bad pages and I will post a complete manual. First number is chapter & page number in printed manual, followed by what appears to be detailed on that page. Number on next line is the PDF page number for reference in two different copies that I have. 2-5 - Deals with TDC mark & valves 150 3-5 - Engine removal 183 3-10 - Engine dis-assembly 188 3-52 - Right after clutch reassembly 230 3-55 - Cam chain installation 233 3-58 - Oil pipe installation 236 5-20 - Brake master cylinder 275 6-2 - Coolant replacement 316 7-27 - Brake light wiring 354 8-3 - Appendix Bulb specs 403 Gary
  4. Just noticed that my time and temperature icon on the bottom of my signature is missing. Anyone know where it went to??
  5. I have been researching fuel injection systems for a while now, and there is one thing I cannot figure out. Most aftermarket fuel injection systems such as MOTEC use a hall affect sensor with a toothed sprocket attached to the crank or cam shaft to monitor engine speed and position. I understand the logic for engine speed, as the teeth spinning by the sensor create a voltage proportional to the engine speed. To detect an initial engine position, the sprocket will have one or two teeth missing. How does the computer detect and determine that the missing teeth is a larger gap than all of the other gaps? Let's say you had a 60 tooth sprocket that is missing two teeth attached to a crankshaft spinning at 10,000rpm. The teeth will be spinning by the hall effect sensor with an AC voltage at 10,000Hz, and two teeth missing will create a zero voltage incident only 0.0002 seconds long. How does the computer notice this is different from the other pulses? I understand that with a 2MHz processor 200microseconds is a long time, but what does the computer logic look like?
  6. What will make an '87 start missing at around 6k rpm?
  7. This was sent to me by one of our members. Please follow this link for more details, I sent a message to grampagak too, just want to get the word out to try and help a fellow enthusist, sounds like law enforcement has not been a big help. *** URGENT-Search for Don-9/12/2009 *** Search Details "Donald Masters left Orofino, ID, Monday, August 31, headed for West Yellowstone and then on to Denver. He has not been seen or heard from since. We have reason to believe he may have gone missing Monday (he was due into Denver Wednesday). He was riding a black 2008 Goldwing, Colorado Plate #327-UTH." 9. I have a trunk from an 83 or 84(I think. It's smaller than my 85 trunk) that I'd like to get rid of. It's got a crack on the right side of the lid, and it has been outside on my picnic table for a while now. Missing the lock, and I don't know what else hardware for mounting it. Free to whoever wants it, just pay shipping. I don't need it, I got it when I was trying to find all the parts for my 85. Let me know!!
  10. My drain cock assembly was leaking. I took the plug out and found that the O-ring was missing. I figured that was the problem. I ordered a O-ring from the local Yamaha dealership and I picked it up today. I got all off the pieces together and found that I am missing that little tiny ball that sits on top of the spring. Are there places that might have them? If so, what size is that little ball? Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated. Todd
  11. I can't find my connector for a headset anywhere on the bike. the wifes is right under the seat. But mine has gone missing. Where should I look for it?
  12. I've had it with the m/c tires . Am getting a Kumho for the rear and could use some advice on mounting it. I do not have a mounting machine and probably not the correct tools. My Metzler is missing a chunk. Sure wish I had a lift. If anyone near Dallas can help it would be appreciated.
  13. Well I'll be missing the Meet again this year but this time its my right knee. Doing a MRI on June 3 . I messed it up when I was changing out a water pump on a cat motor in a dump truck, move a way my knee was not intended to move and something popped bummer...... I was going to ride up with Snarley Bill & Roadkill and maybe some of the other family members next week, but there's always next year....I hope. Everyone have fun and eat plenty food for me and send some photos of the pond monster too..... Buddy
  14. Greetings... Brown, or is that supposed to be 'Gold'... Owned by the store "Motorcycle Accessories" on I-70b, right next to the bowling alley. The plastic is pretty torn up - The PO obviously hurt his left knee - nothing really missing but every peg on the side covers (held on by zip ties.) Radio works and sounds good, even though the antenna is missing. Still has the lower scoop (with screens) and original screws, that and the front fender are just about the ONLY pieces of tupperware NOT split, cracked or missing chunks...Currently there are two inches of water in the rear luggage box - the passenger radio/cb hand unit is actually in the right hand saddle bag Though the salesman didn't seem to know what it actually was! Mirror's are good, obviously been replaced - She's been down on both sides more than once, and the mirrors are the first to go in those kinds of drops. There is a split in the dash plastic that would leak humidity onto the speedo in a rain. How do you split the dash board plastic that way? She had about 49K on the dial - but that can't be trusted. Has a rather newish looking "Grey" V-bag on the right hand passenger spot - but both front driver V-bags are gone - the right side still has the snap intact. The fairing upper decks are missing plastic at the points where the metal latch attached for the bags - so they probably got ripped off by knee impact. That's the story the cracks tell on the fairing lowers anyway... When asked if the cruise worked - I got the "I don't know - But probably not" questioning (it's got cruise control!?)look that a semi-honest salesman who trying not to lie to someone who seems to actual knows what the heck he's looking at uses... Asked him to fire her up. She started rather slow, took three tries (my 89 ignites instantly - even in the winter - so it needs some work), after I told him to wait a sec for the fuel pump to STOP pumping fuel to the carbs, she fired fine - Starter was nice and strong - though it needs a new battery, once she fired up, she idled really sweet without needing any choke (carbs are in sync - the mechanics have obviously spent some time getting her running), and reved quickly and strong. Didn't test drive, as the seat was mostly just yellowed foam - the sun and armor-all had split just about every surface of seat, back and arm rests. Not one square inch of leather/pleather remaining - anywhere - not even on the backrest! Armor-all + sun = destruction... The mufflers sounded like they had at least another 5000 miles left in them - didn't hear any loose baffles rattling, and didn't sound they had been removed. She was nice and silent at idle and rev. There's an extra brake light on the travel compartment, and the vanity mirror is actually still there and in pristine condition!! The side bags are non-cracked, and still have the original foam bottoms. Unfortunately - the 2 inches of rain water in the rear travel compartment have really rusted the bottom left set of screws and nuts. However - the fact that the water is still actually there - leads me to conclude that the rear compartment isn't all cracked up, all the locks work and all hinges are in excellent condition... They were asking $2700. I asked him if they were firm on that - his reply was I'll get 3 times that If it sits here all summer then I part it out on Ebay... So it's obviously priced to NOT sell. I told him that that's about $1700 over priced - he just smiled - so I got the impression that that's what they probably paid for it and the hours put into it in labor and parts... All in all, I'd scrape together - Maybe $1500 for her - even IF I ended up parting her out. But the engine sounds good - My guess is she's probably got at least 50k left on her clock before a major rebuild if you kept up on her maintainence.
  15. I was riding the V-Star Saturday, on my way over to meet folks for lunch at Bobby's BBQ (Augusta M&E) and had to stop for the first gas-up of the day. Imagine my horror when I stuck the key in the cap and discovered it was loose-fitting, and worse, would not come off! Eventually, I was able to maneuver the cap off, with a part or two spilling into my hand. To my dismay, I discovered that one of the two screws holding the whole assembly together was missing and the other one was quite loose. Well, not missing, exactly, because it was likely in the bottom of the tank, in a place that I could not possibly get to. I disassembled the cap completely because it was obvious that other parts might be missing or dislodged. Thankfully, I was able to put it all back together and make it operational again. Because the screw was fairly long (well over an inch) and I was in the middle of nowhere, I determined to continue the ride, thinking it highly unlikely that a screw that size could possibly wiggle its' way beyond the tank. An hour or so later I arrived intact at the meeting place, just a couple of minutes ahead of everyone else. After lunch, when we were all just about to head our separate ways home, I told my little tale to Bryan and mentioned that he might want to check his gas cap. Sure enough, a screw was missing on his gas cap, as well! So, this is just a little heads-up: you might want to pull out a phillips head screwdriver, pull off the gas cap, turn it bottom side up, and make sure the two screws are sufficiently tightened. TERRY
  16. My 1999 RSV started missing the other day. I checked the plugs and I ran seafoam thru it. I checked the spark at the plugs. The fuel pump isn't clicking. It has been doing this ever since it started missing. Is there a fuse that goes to it and if so where is it located? Where is the relay to it and how do you check it? thanks tim
  17. Victoria Stafford, better known as Tori, was last seen leaving Oliver Stephens School on Wednesday April, 08, where she is a Grade 3 student. Her parents reported her missing at around 6 p.m. that night. The family of missing eight year old Tori Stafford are planning a charity motorcycle ride to raise funds for psychiatrists and psychologists. 'Tori's Ride Home' is planned for May 2 leaving the Zellers parking lot in Woodstock and ending at Southend Appliances with registration starting at 11:30. I believe that if you're not heading to Bob's M&E and are close enough to participate and show your support, you should. This family has been severely traumatized by the abduction of their girl.

  21. Hi all, I went to start my Venture up today an noticed something bad, the kids have been messing about with my Venture and broken the bottom 3 buttons:yikes: Anyone know where I can buy the missing arts, if indeed I can, or does anyone have some spare, please:smile5:. Thanks all, Woz.
  22. While waxing my new '08 Venture S, I noticed a chrome piece of metal over the top of the rear jug on the left side (sitting on bike) and there is not one on the right side. Is this piece missing and if not, what is it's purpose. The only purpose I can see is it makes it hard to get to the seat nut on that side and easy on the other. I can't sleep wondering if my baby is missing on of her chrome pieces.
