  1. Everyone say hello to Rob Wrenn our newest friend and a fellow Long Islander! Rob you will find lots of good friends here! Talk to you soon buddy!
  2. can anyone give me the best way to remove the rear wheel? I have seen lots of different procedures which vary quite significantly thanks Pete:confused24:
  3. I've had it with my radio on my 83 VR.. I screwed with it non stop, cleaned it and and even replaced it with one I picked up that i know works. The brass pin connections are just too tricky. I saw somewhere on here at one time where someone had retrofitted a marine radio into the same location as the original.... but I can't find the post again.. I know lots of people just use MP3's and i pods. those are great, but I still like the plain old radio for around town. Any thoughts ideas or knowledge on how to put a marine radio in that location. thanks Clay
  4. just a reminder! the benefit bar-b-que, for rattlesnake, is this coming Saturday. it will be held at the Refugio V.F.W. grounds, in Refugio, Texas. if you can make it, - - -wonderful! if you can't, - - -you lose out on a really good feed, and meeting lots of new people. just jt
  5. Saw this on another forum for trucks and thought it might be fun. Post your favorite thing about your bike and try not to repeat what anyone else has said. So, here goes... What I like about my bike is this... Today being a beautiful and sunny day, everyone and their mom was out riding. What did I see ALL DAY LONG? Harleys! Lots and lots of Harleys! I have nothing against them but they begin to all look the same. I probably saw 200 bikes today and 194 of them were Harleys. These guys spend THOUSANDS on their bikes trying to get that "one-of-a-kind" look and they end up seeing 10 other people on their street with the same bike. I did not see ONE OTHER Venture today. That makes my bike (purchased for just $5,600) more custom than all the $20k and $30k bikes I saw today. And THAT is what I like (or even love) about my bike.

  7. from the frozen wonderland of Hayward, WI. We are having a great time here. Lot's of good food, lots of snow, lots of COLD. It is truly beautiful though and we are really enjoying it. The company resort has lots to do. A nice lodge with pool table, foosball, air hockey, ping pong, etc. Lot's of snowmobiles free to us to use all we want and thousands of acres to ride. The drive up here wasn't too bad. Hit some fairly heavy snow showers about 50 miles before we got here but wasn't too bad. Ended up taking about 12 hours to get here. 755 miles and could have made it a bit quicker if the weather hadn't turned somewhat bad. We will be here all week and plan to head home next Saturday. Hope you all have a wonderful New Years and that everybody be smart and safe. I'm not getting online very often but am trying to check messages once per day. Don

  9. This past year has been filled with ups and downs in our family, the biggest up being the birth of our second grandchild 3 weeks ago, but seems the downs waited till now to rear their ugly heads even higher. Charlene has finally been diagnosed with spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal that causes pinched nerves causing much pain) the doctor thinks this is more of the problem than the hip or knee, hopefully she will start treatment before the 1st of the year. Then last nite my daughter called with chest pains again and again went to the ER, this time they did a bunch of tests and find the problem to be gallstones, which means surgery sometime after the first of the year................. Hopefully the New Year will be a better year here. Lots of good things to look forward to with the coming year. Hopefully after Charlene has her treatments she will be able to get back to riding with me once again, and she should be able to enjoy our non motorcycling vacation, when we go on our cruise next summer. So here is wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays..........be safe and God Bless.
  10. I know lots of us have young children in our lives, be they our children, nieces or nephews, grandchildren. So I've been looking around at alternative places to get toys. I found this really interesting site. The toys are all American made. Lots of old stuff too that I'm sure plenty will remember. Here's the link. http://www.fatbraintoys.com/index.cfm After watching the news today with the latest recall on toys that can kill kids or put them in a coma, I was really upset. Christmas is on it's way and what do you get for the children in your life. Luckily some of the old board games are still available as well out there. Hope this helps anyone looking for a safe toy for that child in your life (no matter how old they may be) Margaret
  11. Hi gang - new to the list. I have a basket-case '83 Royale for which I will be seeking a lot of advice. It's got 30K miles but has been sitting in a garage for the last 12 years. I've been aquiring lots of parts that it needs (carbs, CB antenna, mirrors, left upper fairing, new rear master cylinder and lines, etc.). Two quick questions (couldn't find the answers in a search - apologies if I'm a dope!): 1. Do Dunlop Elite IIs work on the first-gen Royales? Looking to see if someone still makes RWL tires for it and your tips. 2. I see lots of references to "Seafoam" and its magical powers, but haven't found it in a shop or a catalog - what's the proper name and/or manufacturer of this stuff? Thanks in advance!!! Gregg
  12. Check out this 83 Venture on Ebay, just a short time left on this one.......its loaded with lots of toys, almost too many................83 Venture......Ebay
  13. Without going into details, here's a great 5 day ride from Vancouver. You'll see lots of exciting and varied scenery, not to mention the many historical landmarks. Start anywhere around Vancouver and travel east to Osoyoos. Overnight there at either a camping spot or motel. Make a reservation if you're travelling during the peak season. Second day, leave Osoyoos and travel east to Nelson. Beautiful scenic area with lots to see and do. Places to stay shouldn't require pre-booking. Third day, leave Nelson and travel east towards Balfour & Kootenay Lake. Head north up the lake towards Kaslo. At Kaslo, head west to New Denver, then north to Revelstoke. Stay overnight at Revelstoke and be sure to check out the "music in the square" downtown during the summer. There's lots of camping and motels plus a few great resorts. Some will require a reservation or you won't get in. My personal favourite is Glacier House Resort. http://www.glacierhouse.com/ (mostly because I worked for them on contract before, during, and after the construction of the resort and of course because it's a fantastic place) Fourth day, leave Revelstoke and head west, stopping overnight in either Kamloops, Cache Creek, or Lillooet. Kamloops is a major interior city whereas the other two are quite small. I prefer Lillooet as a stop over vs Cache Creek. Fifth day, head west via Lillooet and towards Pemberton and Whistler village. Continue on that route through Squamish and finally back at Vancouver. A great 5 day ride averaging about 5 - 6 hrs or so per day riding so lots of time for stopping here and there. All roads are in very good condition and offer a wide variety of straights, curves, hills, 2-lane, 4-lane, tight corners, etc. I'd provide more detail but typing time today is limited. Possibly some of the folks viewing this who are from those areas can elaborate on places to stay, things to do, etc.
  14. My son came in and helped me get my Insta-Trike mounted and aligned, then we took it out for a test run. He seemed to adapt to the new style of riding more easily than I did, but we both agreed that the stability and control seem fine, though we haven't tried highway speeds yet. I have attached a pic with saddlebags and fenders still off - I took lots of the entire install sequence if anyone is interested. Everything fit extremely well, and aside from rather sketchy instructions I had no problems at all. Now for the wiring, lights, etc... Charlie
  15. Ever wonder what is in those cans? Thanks to GeorgeS, you can now see. Lot's of restriction. Pretty much the same situation on the second gens also. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3365
