  1. just letting you all know. that the job i worked at for the homeless pepole ended today. they opened up the winter shelter in town here. so once again food, and bills will be tight. i just dont what to do any more? im tired of trying to keep my head up. and fighting the wolves at my door. im still dealing with a workers comp case for over 3 years now. the INSURANCE COMPANY for the employer for got to submit a medical set aside aggrement? we went in for the settlement offer only to be tould it will take another 4 months because of the insurance company not follwing the rules. of course they will have a penatly to pay. big deal it dont help me none. it will go onto my settlement when ever that comes? so here i sit. looking at the car thinking i cant make the payments next month. they have been nice and defered 3 payments for me as i was thinking hey the settlement was to be approved this month. and it didnt happen. so once again food will waht i can get from the pantry every 2 weeks? the internet or cable has to go?. i went down and applied for energy assistance. and im 150 on the list ouch!! but should be approved. im just glad that i did save a little to make it to a friends daughters funeral. i think when my time comes the good lord will know that no matter how little i had i gave what i could. take care everyone. i will pop in and out when i stop at the local library. sincerly oldgoat.
  2. Insurance company haters here is something to make your day. LOL Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley announced setlements on Monday with three additional insurers-- Travelers, Fireman's Fund and Electric Insurance-- for allegedly overcharging policyholders. Fifteen insurance companies in total have now settled with Coakley and agreed to return close to $40 million to Massachusetts consumers, including more than $5.6 million in additional insurance refunds for Massachusetts motorcycle owners. "We are pleased that our investigation, which began with a single consumer complaint, has resulted in the return of nearly $40 million to Massachusetts motorcycle owners," Coakley said. "We are very concerned that the auto insurers in this state were abble to overcharge so many Massachusetts consumers on such a large scale." Monday's three settlements resolve allegations that the insurance companies illegally overcharged state consumers for years by using un-depreciated and inflated motorcycle values to calculate insurance premiums. Coakley's office reached similar settlements with 12 other insurance companies last year. As a part of the newst settlements, Premier Insurance Company of Massachusetts refunded $5,000,386, American Automobile Insurance Company will refund $571,394 and Electric Insurance Company will return $123,882 to policyholders in the state. The three insurance companies are also required to collectively send out more than 14,000 refund checks in late October, with an average refund of approximately $400. According to Coakley's office, 1,424 refund checks will be over $1,000, 2,031 refund checks will be between $501 and $1,000, 2,627 refund checks will be between $251 and $500, 3,579 refund checks will be between $100 and $250 and 4,488 refund checks will be under $100. The 15 settlements stem from a consumer complaint filed with Coakley's office from a consumer who owned a 1999 harley-Davidson road King Classsic. The consumer's premiums were alledgedly calculated as if the motorcycle was brand new and worth $20,000 price. By 2008 the nine year old motorcycle was worth less than $12,000. Despite this, each year between 2003 and 2008 the consumer's insurance company allegedly used the inflated $20,000 value to rate the poicy, resulting more than $1,500 in overcharges.
  3. hello any one know much about insurance company called farmers? i just got done talking to dianne seems her friend a co-worker had his honda pacifica stoled sometime over the weekend? he got back home today and his garage was broken into. gone was the motorcycle and a john deere lawn tractor. im thinking some one had to have a huge trailer to do this? well they called farmers insurance about the bike. and the insurance company said he should file it on his home owners insurance policy? that just makes no sense to him . i told him to get some pictures of the bike if he has some and maybe the vin number if he doesnt mind and maybe we can put a look out for it here on this site if thats ok with the boss? he said he,s not sure if he has pictures of the bike but he could call the P.O who put the ad up in craglist way back when he bought it and get a copy of it as it had pictures. now i see why rule of thumb here pictures man pictures. well any help i would be gratefull for. i cant realy help him. much but will try my best. i think he,s getting shafted by farmers insurance i mean after all he paid his premiums but maybe he dont have full coverage on that bike?
  4. I just got my insurance renewal from Echelon General Insurance Company, through Riders Plus. I thought these guy's were supposed to be biker friendly. It went up approximatly $200.00 to a painful $812.00. That is roughly a 33 % increase, no tickets, no accidents and no claims. That was for one million liability only. No collision, fire or theft, for my 89. How do they justify such a whopping increase at a time when the average worker is lucky to even get a 2% raise If they even get one at all. I know some who haven't had a raise in 4 years and then there are the ones who have even been unemployed. :Avatars_Gee_George: :Avatars_Gee_George:
  5. I dont know if anyone else is interested in this or not, but here goes. There are almost 12,000 members on this board. Does yamaha monitor this forum? If not they should. Here is a group that not only owns these bikes but take the time to share their ideas. The 2nd generation Venture is basically the same as 12 years ago, it's got to be time for an update. I love a lot of things about my bike but would like to see some modernizing. So I will offer my ideas. I welcome challenges to my opinions and input from others. maybe Yamaha will keep some of these ideas in mind when they develope the next generation. here is a start: ADD Fuel Injection. Improve economy (A BMW with the same weight and displacement can get 55 MPGs). Better cold starts. No more cleaning carbs. Etc, etc… Hydraulic Valves. No more adjusting. Longevity. ABS. Safety. Insurance rates. Linked Brakes. Safety. Insurance Rates. Adjustable Windshield. Ala BMW and Kawasaki. Because they are awesome! Adjustable Handlebars. They just don’t fit everyone. 3rd Brakelight. Safety. Insurance rates. Tachometer. Self Explanitory. Other Guages. Nice to have. Temp, Volts, Air Pressure. Gear Indicator. The bike is quiet. When I ride next to Harleys I forget which gear I am in. The Tachometer will help with this also. On board Air Compressor. Can adjust suspension. Have air for flats. (If not an onboard compressor at least link the front and then rear shock air system together so they can be equally adjusted) No Roll Back Clutch. Subaru used to make one. This is a heavy bike. Loaded down with passenger and luggage, in traffic, on a hill sometimes it is a monster to take off. It must be able to be disengaged with a thumb button right next to the clutch lever so the bike can be moved around a parking lot. This will give you something the competition does not offer. Delete Cassette Player. Self Explanitory Keep V-4 .Everyone has a twin. Seat. The best stock one out there IMHO
  6. Anyone have medical insurance on their motorcycle policy? Vaguely remember hearing about one for an additional $100... Just how good/what is covered on this?. Paying for my own coverage but have 5000 deductable with 80/20 split after that, so, a medical bill of 105,000 would end up costing me $25,000...
  7. I have both bikes insured through Geico, and while sitting here daydreaming.. when I do some of my best work.. .. I got to thinking about whether or not my new trailer was covered under my current policies like they are on an auto policy. So I called Geico. I found that it wasn't...per se'. At least not the value. So to prevent a wrestling match in the future I added the VIN #, and Value to the policies... There wasn't a change in the premium, but now if it's damaged or stolen it's covered. While on the subject, another insurance area that we've talked about in the past, but haven't seen anything lately, is uninsured AND underinsured coverage. Most MC policies have un-insured, but unless you ask for it, they don't have under-insured coverage. Get in an accident where you're not at fault, and the at fault drivers liability is the bare minium, your insurance company doesn't have to shell out a dime. In the state of California minium is 15/30. Hospital bills will wipe that out in a heart beat. So word to the wise. Check your coverage.
  8. Ok so while making the list of stuff we are taking on this ride I see the $$$ of the electronics we will have on board. The Zumo 550 I just bought,netbook,ipad,2 high end cell phones and ipod is almost 2800.00 in "stuff". Yes I am a geek and I consider these things NEEDED. So I called to check our coverage to see if I needed to change anything and was informed that everything but the GPS would be on my renters policy and the gps would go on the bike policy. So 1000.00 in deductibles!?!?! Remind me again why we even bother to carry insurance? I wonder if this is just State Farm or is every company like that? Maybe it's time to change companies? Thoughts? Frank
  9. My bike insurance policy is up for renewal in a couple of weeks and I received the renewal notice (from Dairyland) a couple of weeks ago. It was $338.50. I then noticed that since I bought the Goldwing and sold my Venture a few weeks ago that I had failed to drop the insurance on Venture. So I called my agent and took care of dropping the old bike. Last week I get a new policy renewal for the single bike and noticed that my rate had been lowered to the single bike rate. They dropped it $2.39. I thought someone made a mistake. Surely I couldn't insure a second bike for $2.39. So I called the agent and she said there must be some mistake. She put in a call to Dairyland and their explanation was that I lost my multi-bike discount and the rate was correct. She still thought that was bogus so she shopped the same coverage with other companies and came back with a rate of $210 from American Home. I've never heard of them but she recommended them and said that was who she had her bike insured with. So, I'll be switching insurance soon. FYI, Progressive was $389. Dennis
  10. An electrical fire burned a farmer’s barn down. The next day, the farmer’s wife went to the insurance agent to file a claim. She told the agent the barn was insured for $50,000 and she wanted the money. The agent told her that is not how insurance works. An insurance adjuster will come out and determine what the barn was worth. Then we will provide you a new barn equal to that value. The woman thought for awhile and said: “If that’s how it works, I want to cancel my husbands life insurance.”

  12. BEST TRUE LAWYER STORY OF THE YEAR, DECADE, AND POSSIBLY THE CENTURY This took place in Charlotte, North Carolina . A lawyer purchased a box of very rare and expensive cigars, then insured them against, among other things, fire. Within a month, having smoked his entire stockpile of these great cigars, the lawyer filed a claim against the insurance company. In his claim, the lawyer stated the cigars were lost 'in a series of small fires.' The insurance company refused to pay, citing the obvious reason, that the man had consumed the cigars in the normal fashion. The lawyer sued - and WON! (Stay with me.) Delivering the ruling, the judge agreed with the insurance company that the claim was frivolous. The judge stated nevertheless, that the lawyer held a policy from the company, in which it had warranted that the cigars were insurable and also guaranteed that it would insure them against fire, without defining what is considered to be unacceptable 'fire' and was obligated to pay the claim. Rather than endure lengthy and costly appeal process, the insurance company accepted the ruling and paid $15,000 to the lawyer for his loss of the cigars that perished in the 'fires'. NOW FOR THE BEST PART... After the lawyer cashed the check, the insurance company had him arrested on 24 counts of ARSON!!! With his own insurance claim and testimony from the previous case being used against him, the lawyer was convicted of intentionally burning his insured property and was sentenced to 24 months in jail and a $24,000 fine. This true story won First Place in last year's Criminal Lawyers Award contest. ONLY IN AMERICA ............NO WONDER THE REST OF THE WORLD THINKS WE'RE NUTS

  19. So there I as, driving to work on a beautiful SoCal afternoon. I came up on a 90 degree left handed sweeper, no traffic, clear road, about 25mph. I eased into the turn, acheiving full lean with throttle roll-on, when to my surprise, my back end completely washed out. I found my self on the pavement watching my '09 RSV continue in a straight line, on it's left side. When it hit the edge of the roadway, it high-sided and smashed down hard on the right side. Tow truck to the dealer, call to insurance and several beers late, here I am. By the grace of God I am uninjured, but the bike may be a total. New fairings, bags and rub rails, new windshield, new engine guards, new floorboards, that's just the start of what I see needed. And I am NO mechanic. .
  20. Ok, for all you computer nerds out there, here's a question that I am trying to figure out. Is there a way to tell whether the problem is my motherboard or if it's the processor. Several months ago lightning ran in on my computer and killed it. I think it was just static electricity and not a direct hit with lightning. There was a pop and it died but this was while the computer was turned off and unplugged. Anyway, I took it to a place for insurance estimate and they told me it was either the motherboard or the processor. Insurance paid off, but I never had it fixed. Now I've decided to try to fix it myself. I did mange to salvage my harddrive to another computer so all data was saved. I'd just like to tinker with this one. So, ya'll get your thinking caps on and see what you can come up with.
  21. I need some help from you folks---I have reached the point with my State farm Homeowners Insurance where I have to start taking names, documenting my problems, and walking up the ladder. Other than keeping all you informed, I need to know the politically correct of climbing the corporate ladder on this ! I know some of yoou are insurance savvy and need your advice ( my problem is roof related). Your respnse would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks !!!
  22. I hope y'all are not gonna tell me I screwed up!!! Anyway my home owner's insurance came up for renewal and I went shopping. My Allstate agent said he could not write Allstate for our double wide, but quoted me American Modern Insurance Group. Sure enough they beat Foremost (which I've had for years). He told me they also wrote M/C insurance. He did quote me Allstate on the scoots, but it was ridiculously high. Long story short, yearly premium for full coverage for BOTH scoots was $620.00. That's not each that's both! Renewal with each was $436.00 with Geico on the RSTC and $425.00 with Progressive on the RSV. Hope they AMIG is a good company!!!
  23. Paid my insurance on September 30th, a tidy sum of $1038 I might add, and it hasn't stopped raining since! Don't tell me the insurance companies are paying off Mother Nature now!! I know if you turn around ANY politician you can find a pair of "insurance boots" hanging out the back end, but this is ridiculous. Come on Mama!!!
  24. Back on Aug 31st, someone ran into me from a glancing head on collision while I was sitting at a traffic light waiting on it to turn green. The other party was clearly at fault and they were cited for wreckless driving. I am letting my insurance company fix/total my bike and they will go after the other party's insurance to get their maney back. It tore up my 08 Venture pretty badly: entire front end,,,fairing busted, forks bent, handle bars, rear view mirror, wind screen busted, passing lights and blinkers busted. And everything down the right side of the bike....floorboards, fairing around the radiator, front and rear crash bar, saddle bag and the right side of the trunk suffered road rash. After talking to the Geico adjuster, he said the repair bill has to be around 90% of the value of the bike. I don't want the bike back and I want it totaled but 90% seems crazy. The repair shop hasn't finished the quote but I think 90% seems high. If they won't total it, how can I fight back?
  25. I'm looking for a good yet inexpensive insurance provider for my Venture. I presently have Victoria and it's $440 a year - I'm sure there's something as good but a little less money. any suggestions ? Thanks
