  1. I've waited a long time, but I brought it home today... New FJR AE...... Sweet
  2. We made it home at 12:30 afternoon. 100 miles of rain and wet road but no problems. A great time as always now just waiting for others on the road to chime in safe.
  3. Started home Sun morning and "Brown Sugar" showed me why she let a couple of those other bikes get close. Started lagging when I let off gas and soon just wouldn't go. Rear/Front brake locked up. Opened rear bleeder and got no fluid. Opened front bleeder and got no fluid. Master cylinder? Brake released while we were there and I rode it home with only front brake. If it released it seems to me calipers are ruled out?? Can you imagine what that thing would do if the Brakes weren't holding it back???

    IM home

just a quick note.. i got home friday the 13th . been real tired. thats the medication. i want to say thank,s to all of you. Dianne took off for a long weekend with girlfriends. so im just relaxing. i have a nurse who stops in mon-friday. pre cooked food just pop in the micro. and im good to go. belly is still sore and will be for a few months to come. i have to watch out for seeds and stuff that i eat. sometimes if i move wrong it feels like a texas mule kicked me. so i sit with ice pack on the big belly. im going to see about selling the venture waiting on loan officers aproval dont worry im still staying here. im just looking at a replacement next spring. the first gens are great. but hard to get parts and i cant wrench no more . so im thinking of going down to a cruise bike. 650cc up to a 900cc . low and easy to operate. im sure something will pop up then? if the money comes in i will look for one in the winter. cheaper maybe? i know it wont be a venture but i will still be a venture member well pain meds are kicking in. so off to the recliner. i cant sit much in this computer chair. many many many thanks to you all sincerly oldgoat
  5. Will be leaving Seymour about 7:00 am for 5 or 6 days out. Then we will have to turn around and come home. Friends of mine are going to ride all the way to the coast and back on 66. They plan on taking 5 weeks. Hoping to make it to Pueblo,Co. before we have to turn around. We will be taking I 70 home. Will be taking the laptop with us and would like to maybe meet some of you guys & gals on the way back home. As will be riding back by ourselves.
  6. Once again this bbs has proven to be MORE than worth admission. I was in a quandry about how to set up routes on my Zumo 550 and wizard765 was kind enough to call me (4 times) til he caught me at home. He did point out that I misled him when I said I was retired and was always home Well, I am retired but somehow I keep busy doin' "stuff" As it turns out, I've had a zumo for over 2 years and didn't have a clue what it was capable of but thanks to Wayne, I got a great lesson today. Thanks Wayne :clap2: btw - Just call ahead for reservations at Malvern Hilton and a personalized tour of the area. Don't tell anybody that there is an amish community within an hour of the Hilton.
  7. So riding home thought the rear end felt a little mushy, but made it home fine. Got up the next morning and put a guage on it and it was dead, picked up a nail. Initially was going to just plug it, but since I bought the tire (mounted) from Discount tire and they fix flats for free, I took it to them instead. They un-mounted it, patch/plugged it from the inside and re-mounted it, no muss no fuss no charge. Guess that is why I buy all of my tires from there.
  8. we made it home about 1pm. hope every one else has a safe trip home. want to thank everyone who showed up for the meet. you folks are very special people and we really enjoyed being with you all again. i have another meet in the works for september10th and 11th, 2010, at meremac state park in sullivan mo.. will post the vital info in the next couple of days. already have enough interest to make it a meet. bill
  9. So am I gonna see you at the year end meet and eat this year its only 1365 miles for you to ride up? Havent decided where we are gonna have it yet I have to get home so I can try out a few restaurants and then make a decision on where we will be eating. Jeff
  10. Some of you have been following our ride for the last two weeks. Just wanted to let everyone know we made I made it home late last night. We started out on a two week loop around Kansas and Nebraska (in that we didn't touch either state). We left on the 18th and tavelled to Sikeston MO, on to Eureka Springs AR, through OK and the TX panhandle to Albuquerque NM. From there we went through Durango, Montrose, Telluride, Carbondale, Frisco, Estes Park and then on to the Black Hills of SD. We left Hill City SD Friday morning and made it home to Nicholasville KY last night, 1376 miles. Overall we covered 4410 miles in 14 days. It was an incredible trip. We saw very little rain, maybe 60 to 90 minutes the entire trip. It rained several evenings after we were settled at our hotel. We had no flat tires or equipment problems. Traffic was not a problem with the exception of a couple of lane closures for paving. It was a bit hot on the way to NM but after that the temperatures were quite comfortable. We travelled desolate highways, high mountain passes, beautiful canyons, and lush grasslands and forests. We saw many windmill farms. We live in a beautiful country as I'm sure you know. I had posted a few daily reports with links to the day's photos and some of you may have looked at them. I've combined all of those into a single link with all of the photos. If you care to see the photos they are at: www.traynorphoto.com/2010biketrip I also carried a SPOT unit. I highly recommend that if you have people at home trying to keep track of you. We had family following our track and it helped them know that we were safe and still moving. It entertained my 86 year old father-in-law as he sat by the computer with his road atlas following our progress. The SPOT track can be found at: http://spotwalla.com/tripViewer.php?id=6473 We've began planning this trip about 9 months ago so it will soon be time to plan next years adventure. We're thinking about the Oregon and N. California coastline. But you never know. Back to work tomorrow..... Dennis
  11. Well made it home safe and sound. Was gone 6 weeks did 11 states and 4100 miles. Had a great visit with my sisters and mom in CA and got to see some old friends from my much younger days. Had a horrible hot ride across hwy 50 in Nv and UT but was great going thru the Rockies. Met some nice bikers from all over the states and Canada. Even ran into a couple in the middle of the desert in Nv from Missouri got to talking and found out he was my aunts first cousin. Just never know who you might run into out riding the country. Now tto clean the bike and get ready to go visit friends at the Hub. Sharon and I will be down early fri morning Bill can only stay for the day she has to work sat. John
  12. Looking for a bracket mount for a Garmin 665 XM satellite antenna. Similar to this. http://www.gpscity.ca/g/gps/l/4/ram344.jpg Any other options than RAM? Anyone have one to move along to a new home? Thanks
  13. Good to be home but miss the riding already. We arrived home about 2 hours ago. After the ralley we went to 6 flags north of Chicago. We spent a full day there (12 hours Friday). It was great for the kids and Marilyn. I dont do rides but I enjoyed watching. Headed home Sat. and stopped for lunch with Boo and Jane. Hoteled it later in the day and a good thing as the worst storm we've seen came through that night. We just beat another huge storm tonight by minutes but did get caught in some aweful wind! Thanks to Kevin and Sue for the rally. It was great to see some of the old rascals and meet some new faces. Sorry Russell we bolted right through Mpls and didnt stop this time. It was great to see you on the way down though. (thanks again for lunch!) Take care everyone and thanks again!
  14. Eileen and I made it home Friday evening from a whirlwind visit to Texas. We spent time with family in Tyler, Longview, Mt. Pleasant, Grand Prairie, Arlington and Granbury. Not near enough time in any one place and spent way too much time driving and not enough time with people that we were way overdue visiting. Now, it had been almost 10 years since I was last home to Texas. During this trip, I met 4 grand kids that I had never met, I met two daughter in laws that I had never met, I met 5 nieces and nephews that I had never met. It was a bit strange, a bit sad, a bit joyous and a bit hectic but overall, was a good trip. I'm sincerely sorry that I was unable to attend the International Rally. From all reports, Leadwolf and team did a fantastic job with it. This is the first one that I've missed and I hated doing so but I only have a limited amount of vacation and visiting family was way overdue. I can't wait so long before going home again. I spent yesterday working on the lawn tractor and managed to put a big gash in my hand and arm first thing yesterday morning but that is fairly typical of what happens when I work on something. Got the tractor repaired though so at least it was a success. Still have luggage in the car that I have to get out today and help Eileen get everything unpacked. Then I have to get my work car organized and hit the road again tomorrow. I feel like I need a vacation to get over my vacation but don't have any remaining time right now. I thank all of you for your understanding and sorry if I've neglected anything here during my time away.
  15. So we left South Bend on Thursday morning. Made it to Petroski that night and now we are in Little Current on Manitoulin Island. Gonna tour the Island in the morning and pick up the Ferry to Tobermory tomorrow. Should be home late tomorrow night. Having an AWESOME trip. Did the tunnel of trees on the north shore of the peninsula. WOW! The ride into the island was also excellent. Really looking forward to tomorrow ride as well. When we get home I'll try and get some pics uploaded... Was a GREAT time at the Rally.. Looking forward to the next one. Wayne
  16. Hi gang, See if you can figure this out for me and you win the prize. For sometime now my bike has been running great! Last Thursday I rode to work and all was well then headed home filled up about 2 miles from work, and then it started. No high end speed above 45/50 MPH I made it home all the way home on the back roads. bike just wants to bog down. First thing I did was call the station and I figured they had some bad gas. they say no complaints. then I proceeded to drain the fuel and the bowls and fill up with another batch of fuel from another gas station. still the same problem. Next I check the plugs, the Fronts were carboned fouled real sooty, REALLY black. So I changed them out as well. still the same problem. I am wondering if I have another Coil Problem. I also changed the fuel filter first thing. The one thing I have not changed is the Fuel Pump. I do have (2) spares though. but the bike will run for ever below 50MPH and Idle just great. I also did a carb sync just for the heck of it. Any Suggestions would be great. Thanks, Jeff
  17. didja makeit home OK ??
  18. Saw 2 bikes 1 RSMV and a RSTD Thursday at about 5:00 just east of Cleveland on 90 any body from here they had New York plates thought maybe heading home from the rally never got stopped up in the traffic to have a chance to ask?
  19. More than 65 years later... they return home. STORY
  20. Got a question for the geeks, I have been using Grisoft AVG anti virus, the free version, for a couple of years now. All of a sudden I get a virus, that now we can't get online with either the laptop or the home computer. Convienently it will go to AV's website and allow me to buy their anti virus. Now I believe that AV has something to do with this, I'm not that into computers, but it's too much of a coincidence that their website is the only one I can get to. 2 questions 1) Has anyone been having this problem with AVG free anti virus 2) Who uses what as far as anti virus programs, mind you I cant get online to download one onto my computer. I wont use Mcafee as I have used them in the past and been screwed. Norton isn't a popular option with me either unless someone can really give me a very good solid reason to use it. Any help is appreciated, my cell # is in my profile as until I get this fixed I can't get online from home.
  21. I went up to fuel up at my neighborhood gas station for a nice little trip down to Corpus Christi, I saw this and had to take a few shots. My question is, why on the trailer though? The guy is from Houston, headed home. The other bike is a Valkarie trike so I wasn't as impressed. I wonder how much HP that Chev power plant puts out? 22. Well, I've decided that I'm probably going to upgrade to the Zumo 665. I've put my 550 with XM receiver in the classifieds if anybody is interested. If so, please note that I will not be able to ship it until I get home on weekend of the 16th. If it hasn't sold by then, I'll probably put it on Ebay.
  23. Better late than never. I have a slow Internet connection. Some of the deer were from Utah, sorry. Oh and the clouds are from home here in Alabama. Nothing as sweet as Alabama clouds. http://s97.photobucket.com/albums/l224/teyster2/OberlinMD0610/
  24. I have been gone for quite awhile...work, injuries, weather... But now I have the bike, 83 VR, out for the first time since winter. Where to start??? Problems, problems, problems. Didn't have the time or energy so I had a local shop do a much needed valve adjustment. Bike ran pretty good on the way home. Kreem'd the tank when I got home...last years highway shutdown will not happen again. New fuel filter installed, of course. After installing the tank and firing it up I now can not get the bike to run right. Bike idles but wants to stall when given throttle. Feather it quickly and build rpms to 3000+ and it takes off like a rocket. If on a hill it seems to have more trouble wanting to take off from a stand still, no torque. I have previously done the 5bikes washer treatment to the carbs. Diaphrams are crinkled but hole free. I just ran a full seafoam treatment and this did not make a difference... yet. I adjusted the pilot screws from one and a half turns out to three and a half turns to get the bike to be somewhat rideable. I have noticed some cracks in my intake manifolds...done nothing with that yet. Carbs have been sync'd as good as possible. Bike has always had a slight hesitation at throttle but nothing that really bothered me till now. At speed now it seems to be a little rough. Let me just say I know enough about mechanics to cause myself some expensive repairs later. I truely do not know what to look at next. Can anybody point me in the right, logical direction on what to check next.
  25. First a warning, this video is 9:42 seconds long and not terribly exciting. It's simply me testing the video capabilities of my iPhone mounted to the bike with a Ram mount. Still, it's kinda neat. Makes you feel like you're riding. The wavy-ness of the video I've since confirmed, is due to shooting through the windscreen. Take a look/listen and if the stereo isn't too loud, is that other sound the ibasket whine or, just a chirp? This is the longer version, I think... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-maLTaqWEs]YouTube - Venturing home[/ame] If this one works, it should be shorter. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgcF4JdRZp8]YouTube - Last part of my ride home[/ame] I'm going on my annual round the lake (lake michigan) ride starting this saturday and will video some of that, to be posted along the way hopefully.
