  1. Well just closed the deal from a private seller on an '01 RSV. Haven't picked it up yet so no pictures at the moment. Also my first dealings on Ebay and I have to admit it was a good experience. Just a little over 7000 miles, the bike is in beautiful condition. The guy I bought it from, got it from someone in NY who bought it new in '04 (leftover). I guess he needed money earlier this year and had to sell. I know these bikes come with a 5 yr warranty and my question is, because the bike was sold as new in '04, I'm thinking that there should be a little of the warranty left. Anyone have any experience with this? Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
  2. RideGear.com is not a good place to shop. I have seen complaints on other forums and have received comments confirming my bad experience. They have been reported to the Better Business Bureau on a number of occasions. Has anyone here had experience good or bad with this company?
  3. Folks: Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Hartco seat on the Second Gen Venture. If so, can you offer a comparison to the stock units or other aftermarket seats? Previously, I had a good experience using the Hartco seat on my Honda Valkyrie. This information is being requested with the full understanding that each persons derriere is different. Thx.
  4. This might have been posted before but I'm sort of new here. So here it is again Information to Ponder Counter Steering: If you push the left bar, the bike goes left. If you push the right bar, the bike goes right. That is, unless you keep pushing the right bar all the way, then you will probably go left while the bike swaps ends. Crashing: Remember riding isn't inherently dangerous...crashing is. The Sidelines: It's always better to be on the sidelines wishing you were on the track than on the track wishing you were on the sidelines. Fuel: The ONLY time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire. The Rear Wheel: The rear wheel is just a big fan used to keep the rider cool and his butt relaxed. If in doubt... watch. When it locks up or slides out you can actually see the rider start sweating and pucker marks are left on the seat. Too Slow: No one has ever hit something too slow. Rides: A 'good' ride is one you can walk away from. A 'great' ride is one you can walk away from and use the bike again. Getting Hit: They can't hit you if you're not there. Mistakes: Learn from the mistakes of others. You won't live long enough to make all of them yourself. Traction: When traction is sparse, the probability of survival is inversely proportional to the angle of lean. Large angle of lean, small probability of survival and vice versa. Your Brain: Never let a motorcycle take you somewhere your brain didn't go five seconds earlier. Fog: Stay out of fog. The single red taillight you think is another rider ahead that you can catch, might be the red starboard light of a docked boat. Parking: Always try to keep the number of times you park the bike equal to the number of times you've ridden it. Luck & Experience: You start with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck Mirrors: If all you can see in your mirrors is the direction you were previously traveling intermingled with sparks, and all you can hear is commotion from the passenger riding pillion; things are not at all as they should be. Other Objects: In the ongoing battle between objects made of metal, rubber and plastic going dozens of miles per hour, and the ground going zero miles per hour, the ground has yet to lose. Same holds for cars, trucks, walls and most animals. Draws don't count. Judgment: Good judgment comes from experience. Unfortunately, experience usually comes from bad judgment. Going Forward: It's always a good idea to keep the headlight end going forward as much as possible. Looking: Keep looking around. There's always something you've missed. Laws: Remember, gravity and centrifugal force are not just good ideas. They're laws not subject to repeal. Received via email - author - unknown.
  5. Anyone have any experience or knowledge of these??? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-Saddle-Bag-Trim-Rails_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ10064QQihZ008QQitemZ180227959348QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
  6. I've finally had sometime to ride, results were that I wore the tires just about down to the air ... Found a set of AVON Venoms at a decent price online and bought them. I took the bike and the tires to Sandhills Yamaha in Pinehurst, NC (they also have a Harley dealership in the same building. They got to my bike as promised and R&R'd the tires with my set timely. The mechanic there goes back to 1972 with Yamaha's and no problems. I was treated very nicely, while waiting on the bike they went out of their way to make sure I had plenty of coffee and even ran me through an employees blood pressure clinic they were having there today! BP is fine. Excellent experience. They even had a 2005 RoadPatty ... excuse me Midnight Royal Star Venture, with 9000 miles on it on the floor. Good looking bike if someone is looking for one! All this ... cost $85.00.
  7. I was wondering if anyone is using a handheld microphone for their CB radio. My friend has a Harley Ultra Classic with this setup and I like the way he is able to use a half-helmet with no headset. What experience have others had? If you are using a handheld mic, where did you get it? Can you provide a link? Thanks much!
  8. I have been looking at a trailer by Neosho Fiberglass, in Neosho Mo. The overall looks and price is good, however I am not sure bought the frame. It is made of 3/4" square tubing. Does anyone have experience with this trailer. Here is their web sight, which shows the frame. http://www.neoshotrailers.com/ Thanks for the help Barry

  11. Still a lot of snow out here but getting really anxious for spring. I bought an '84 Venture and it didn't have a tool kit. I am putting some tools together (pliers, spark plug wrench, multi tool, etc...) I wonder if anyone has experience with "on the road" issues and could point to any particular tool or item I should keep in my tool kit.
  12. I'm 61 yrs old; 5'7" tall and about 175 lbs. I recently had a situation on our 07 RSV; riding two-up with the wife. I was in stop and go traffic; road slanted a bit; moment of inattention (I suppose) and the bike started leaning severely to the right. I was able to keep it from falling, but at the price of an injured wrist--not yet sure of the extent of the injury--awaiting the MRI. At any rate, I am concerned about the stability of the bike and do not want to drop it. I read of the Starbar Handlebar by Baron. Anyone have experience with this product? The ad reads like it may be the answer, but I follow the old adage, "If it sounds too good to be true, it is" Would a riser for the stock handlebars do the same thing? Appreciate any help. Jim T
  13. I have been looking at ads and info on the net about battery desulfators. Given the long rest periods over our Canadian winters, I have had the experience of replacing batteries come spring and thereafter. Anybody have experience with these? They look like a great deal to me! Harvey
  14. I'm just getting in from a wonderful 150+ mile solo ride through the gorgeous farmlands east and south of Atlanta. It was a beautiful day with lots of sunshine and strong winds. The temperature hit the low 40s, but the wind chill dropped that another 8 degrees. Of course, that doesn't count for what I call "bike chill", which is the additional 10 degree drop you experience at 75 mph! So, that's a good start to the New Year! I sincerely hope and wish for a healthy, joyous, and prosperous 2008 for all of my great friends on this forum, those I've met and those I haven't met yet! Terry
  15. I have many personnal friends working at Boeing, Everett, Wa. Word is they need help on the Assembly line there. If you have an A+P mechanic licence, or military aircraft maintenance experience, metal fab, hydralics, etc. If you are experienced then you know what I mean. Word is they have over 500 orders for new aircraft, and they are running behind. Main office in now in Chicago, or contact employment office, Everett, Wa. If you are interested, apply thru the Boeing main employment office. Thats the only way. They are also just ramping up a new 777, Freighter program. 787's are just starting to be built. This IS Good Information !!! If you know anybody, who has experience in this type of work, and needs a job, pass this on. Thank's all, hope this info can help sombody.

  19. 18 year old autistic boy been missing for 5 days in the rugged terrain of Dolly Sods WV. He was found alive and well at 2:15 today by rescuers. What a frightening experience for him not able to talk or respond. He has been reunited with family and is receiving medical attention.
  20. I hit a skunk a few years ago. I didn't have much time to react and just naturally went to the head side instead of the other side. A few months ago a dog was on the side of the pavement. I honked the horn and slowed down and moved to the left. The dog just kept on walking and I kept on moving over until I was in the other lane. Then the dog started running and ran right in front of me. I had expected the dog to turn around when I honked but now I am starting to think that their instinct is to continue in the direction that they are already headed. What is everybody elses experience?
  21. I am considering electrifying my liner that I have with my leather jacket. Anyone have experience with this product? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Wiring-Kit-for-Heated-Clothing-Vest-Jacket-garment-WP_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6750QQihZ010QQitemZ200161207116QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Iowa Guy
