  1. I have been working with one of our members, helping him install a CLASS system in an 88 standard 1st gen. He got a bad controller from ebay. He sent me his controller & compressor to check. The compressor is fine. Control head has deeper problems than the solder joint repair. I swapped my lower board with his and it did not correct problem. Also disassembled upper half of controller and saw no visible problems. Cleaned all contacts to no avail. If anyone could help a brother out, it would be appreciated by him. Gary
  2. Not sure how or why, but the audio controller housing is cracked and the bottom edge has fallen off. It still works but I think only the wires are holding it on. Does anybody have a "dud" controller with a good housing???
  3. Last summer, I picked up set of warn-n-safe gloves and jacket at the local shop on clearance. I then found out my bike couldn't handle the load so they just sat. Now that I have the new ride, I'd like to get them hooked up. So my question to those of you have this stuff, where do you mount the controller or should it just go in a pocket or something like that. Do you need to get at it very often? I know they have several different versions of the controller and I'm wondering which to get and how to hook it up.
  4. My radio controller has broken at the base, where it attaches to the bike Has any one else had this problem?? And if I glue it, will it hold okay??
  5. daviddebbybianchi@yahoo.comI have a 2008 RSV and have had many radio/cb/tape deck/ intercom problems from the day I bought it new a year ago. The dealer has been very understanding and has tried everything Yamaha has allowed them to do' The problems are these, Enging ignition noise (spark plug noise) in the intercom, the tape deck shorted out, the cb is now give a CB/ERR message on the display when it is turned on. So far the cb has been replaced, the controller replaced(3 time over the year) the wire harness from the controller to the cb was replaced and still the problem has not been repaired.I think the problem could be in the main wire harness for the bike. Has anyone had this problem and if so what was done to correct it.
  6. OK I have a 93VR, I started having E4 errors so I have done as suggested, soldered the board, didn't fix it, then I started getting E1,E6 & the E4 again. So I tore down the bike and done all the checks as mentioned in the service manual. While I was doing the checks on the controller, it seems to take a long time for the voltage to come up to 13.3 volts on some of the checks while testing on the back side of the plug. The solenoid valves and pump are OK. I cleaned all plugs real good with CRC. Now the display at the controller will sometimes not even light up. The only thing i have NOT done is take the fairing off and check the relay on the curb side of the bike. I am up for any suggestions on what to do next. Has anyone done away with the CLASS system by just airing up the rear when needed by installing an air stem at the junction on the side of the seat and use a tire pressure gauge to check pressures? If any one has a spare circuit board maybe I can see if it is just a bad board? I'm at whits end.
  7. First, decide what parts are needed for the job. Such as the electronic climate controle module for an Expedition. Next, check the dealer pricing. List is $713.00 and discount on-line is about $553.00. Local junkyards want about $110-150. All of this is way too expensive. So, wait until about 2AM and go to Lonestarmedics house. Pop out the door lock on his Expedition and tear his controller out and just chop the wires and vaccum tubes. Yep, believe it or not my truck was broken into for that purpose alone!!! I had to go get a used unit and have them chop the harness out of the wrecked vehicle. Then spice the wiring, run a new set of vaccum tubes and replace fuse. Ordered a lock cylinder and need to get it keyed. I alway thought this neighborhood was decent. I guess too decent since we have the right vehicles. I have anti-theft but no screaming siren. Going to fix that. We have wanted to move and have been waiting for a short sale. Now we just want to get out of town. Thanks for reading, just needed to vent. We need property with about 150 yards clear around the edges. Should be able to lead a robber on foot with a .308 with that!!!!! Yes, comprehensive deductible $500.00 and the repair was under $$200.00 New dash harness, controller, and labor almost $3000.00. JB
  8. I need a radio controller. Anyone have one?
  9. radio controller. i need one. i think.
  10. Ok, this might be the answer to the question nobody ever asks, but here it goes anyway. My wife has always complained about the location of the rear headset connector, on the left side of the trunk. When plugging into the headset jack, the cable ultimately seems to come loose due to the upward pull on the straight connector. In the end the female socket broke out of the bracket and went intermittent. So the initial fix was to plug the intermediate cable of the headset into connector under the seat and routing the cable up next to the back rest. This solved the loose connector issue but introduce a different problem. By doing this you actually circumvent the handheld controller with the CB control and volume function. Which wasn't too bad until we invested into some nicer, modular helmets. Now the volume difference was very noticeable, I am almost deaf as it is, so turning up the master volume was the only way for me to hear the intercom. This made the wife's ears ring, as she has much better hearing left then I do. I cranked the volume on the front handlebar controller all the way up, but it was not enough to create enough bias front to rear. The ultimate solution (at least for us) can be seen in the pictures below. I bought a 5-pin DIN MIDI Extension Cable of EBay for a few $'s, you can also look for an AT Keyboard Extension Cable. I cut the cable in half as the shortest one I could find was around 6'. Then I removed the controller bracket of the trunk with four TORX screws holding it on and soldered the female extension side in parallel with the headset socket. As far as I know the cable colors are none standard, so I used a Ohm Meter to map the wires to the existing socket, which actually uses 6 wires with the shield. I insulated everything and replaced the strain relief to the grommet to include the new connector. The controller bracket was remounted and the headset intermediate cable was plugged into the new female connector and routed up the back rest. Now the wife can set her own headset volume using the volume control on the rear CB controller. I can set the bias between Satellite radio, Intercom and CB in the front and leave the volume on the handlebar controller untouched, she can set her own master volume in the rear using the rear CB controller. This should hopefully make riding more enjoyable until I have get under the knife for double knee surgery in May... Klaus
  11. I am trying to install a Yamaha CB on an 83 Venture Royale. I have the CB and the wire that goes to the amp, but I need the wiring to plug into the CB to battery. I also need the wiring to install the radio controller. I have the controller. I also need the mic. Can anyone direct me to someone who might have these missing parts for installing the CB? I can't find them on EBay. Thank you. Mixon
  12. So I'm in the process of installing a hitch on my bike. The pictures show how far we had to tear it down to put the thing on, and amazingly from start to finish it only took a couple hours. Our next step is to do the wiring, which is a really sweet deal because it's all plug and play - minus the actual trailer coupler of course. I have to say, Bustech did a top-notch job with their wiring setup and installation instructions. The trailer I have is equipped with electric brakes. I, along with the guy helping me do the install, was hoping to find a brake controller that could be mounted both vertically, and NOT parallel to the direction of travel. Well, vertical mounting isn't a problem, I just have to pay a little extra for a nicer unit, but it seems every controller I find has to be mounted parallel to the direction of travel. Makes sense I guess, since most of the nicer ones are inertia based. The reason we were trying to be so picky is that on the right side of my fairing, on top of what would be thought of as the gas tank, is a "glove box". That's where on these bikes they install the CD player and radio that I opted not to buy. It's weatherproof, accessible from the saddle, and fairly good size. However, I don't believe it's wide enough to mount a brake controller without sticking it in there sideways. So chances are I'm going to have to mount it somewhere else, in a weatherproof case. So does anyone have any recommendations on a good, compact brake controller, or any thoughts on mounting? (I know that latter will be hard since most of you probably aren't familiar with my bike.) At first I was thinking some sort of flat, radar-detector type, mount on the handlebars, but i don't know if the extra motion from the bars will screw up the sensors in the controller.
  13. I've got a 99 venture - never had any problems with the audio system 'till now. Two things showed up within days of each other. 1) the up selector on the controller quit working and scrolling down works on station selection but when I do it with something like bass, I can't go back up, then 2) a few days later the audio started to just cut out, on the radio and aux - no static at all - just gone then back. I noticed that the CB RX (receiving) indicator comes on when it cuts out and goes off when it comes back. Finally, it happens a lot under 40 mph and just occassionally above 40 (weird!). I'm gonna try disconnecting the antenna as I never use the CB anyway, but was wondering if anyone had any experience with this or suggestions.
  14. since we can add a CD changer into out RSV and I assume we then can use our master controller to inter act with it can you hook up our Ipod to do the same with a special wire to the audio controller? I hope this makes sence to you all and some one can answer this question Ill continue looking into the search to see if anyone has asked this question before but so far I haven't come across it. Thank you for everyones patience.:thumbsup:
  15. I made the mistake of removing almost everything from my 87 1300 including most of the electrical, but didn't use the controller to let the air out of the suppenson. What's the best way to do this now?
  16. I had a small accident a couple months back that resulted in a low side slide down a mountain highway. The damage to the bike is purely cosmetic and is just about reassembled with some new parts....... one of which is the oem Audio Controller that sits on the left handlebar. I ended up with 7 broken ribs, a punctured lung and a broken collar-bone that was broken so bad that it needed a 6 inch plate with 8 screws to hold it together........... there goes my summer !! Anyway .............. back to the Controller ----------- the broken one works just fine and my insurance company replaced it with a new one at a cost of $872.xx Canadian. I am looking to replace the front panel of the broken Controller to make another good one. It seems almost criminal to throw the broken one in the garbage. Anyone have a busted Controller with a good front panel they want to part with ?? ken.jo@shaw.ca
  17. Can someone tell me what this part number is for?? I looked it up in the price manual, but it's not real clear as to what it actually is. Is it the entire CLASS controller, or one of the parts? 31M-W8591-M0-00
  18. I sure could use a new controller as mine is cracked and the mount holes are gone. Too expensive from Momma Yamma so if anyone knows of a wrecked 2nd gen please let me know.
