  1. My PGR buddy Al "War Dog" Burns and his wife Tonya were in a very bad motorcycle accident in Knoxville yesterday, and are in critical condition at University Hospital. Tonya was pronounced dead at the scene. Their kids are either there or are en route, and they may need some assistance with housing, since they are all from out of town and none of them are very well off financially (recent job losses and one who just had cancer surgery). If anyone is aware of some very inexpensive housing/hotel options in that area, please PM me and I'll pass it on to them. Please keep Al in your prayers. Here is the article I found about the accident: http://www.wbir.com/news/article/137882/2/One-dead-one-injured-after-Monroe-Co-motorcycle-accident Thanks.
  2. I just read this story and found it interesting. An inflatable jacket to protect a motorcyclist in the event of an accident. Anybody here have one? http://www.wbaltv.com/news/14328936/detail.html

  4. We had the radio on at work. After the first plane hit, I thought "what a freak accident", then the second one hit and I was thinking it's impossible, this can't be happening...
  5. Mostly wondering if they caught the scumbag yet.
  6. Today I was preparing to go to Tennessee to get Monty's trailer and I noticed that the tag on my Venture had expired LAST JANUARY I've been to Michigan, Indiana, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and of course Ohio this summer so far. Fortunately my riding habits didn't draw the attention of the Police in any of those states or I may right now. After a lot of scurrying around I managed to get a valid sticker and get it on the bike. To some it's not really a big deal, however, had I been involved in an accident, regardless who's fault, it would have been my fault because I was illegally operating a vehicle on public roads. All sorts of things come to mind and NONE of them were of a good nature. guess I'd better start paying attention to more than riding and tire pressure.
  7. There were three motorcycle fatalities in Branch County/Coldwater on Sunday. A man and wife, both aged 45, were killed when an 18 year old girl allegedly distracted by a cell phone pulled in front of them a few miles north of our home. A husband and wife riding a trike struck a deer and the husband was thrown from the vehicle and killed with his wife suffering significant injuries. There was a third accident also involving a deer/motorcyclist on Sunday with the rider surviving. Southern lower Michigan has an overabundance of deer to say the least. There are few days, if any, without and accident report involving a deer/motorized vehicle collision. For those of us who ride, the presence of deer and their unpredictable movements at any time of day or night is always on our mind. Bill
  8. FYI If you are riding through Iowa, WATCH OUT! Between flying matressess and now trucks crossing the center line running you off the road. Two trucks aginst little motorcycle is just BAD. BE CAREFULL OUT THERE!!!!!!!! GARNER - A Minnesota woman died this morning in a motorcycle truck accident two miles west of Garner on Highway 18 at just after 9:30 a.m.. Diane Mackenzie, 56, of Roseville, was killed when the motorcycle she was riding was involved in an accident with three other vehicles. According to the Iowa State Patrol, MacKenzie was westbound on Highway 18, when she turned her 1993 Honda motorcycle to the shoulder of the roadway to avoid contact with an eastbound vehicle that had crossed the centerline. Upon reentry to the driving surface, Mackenzie lost control and the motorcycle stated to skid and was struck by a semi. Upon impact, the motorcycle and rider were forced into the path of an International boom truck. The accident was investigated by the Iowa State Patrol with assistance from the Garner Police Department and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department.
  9. survived a motorcycle accident...got rearended by a dumb a$$ trying to use a left turn lane for a passing lane. came out with a headache and a smashed up bike. i was waiting at a red light to turn left; after the light turned green i waited for several oncoming cars, and just started moving when i got hit; two cars involved, the one behind me was hit by someone behind him. the guy responsible tried to convince me to just accept $2000 rather than report it it! NOT--i expect the bike was totaled.
  10. I know that I do not post a lot, but all of your advise got me into a 2006 RSTD and I love it. This is not motorcycle related, but this was a bad accident that involved one of the associates that I worked with. This kid had a lot going for him, and it is a shame to see this happen. This kid had a great heart for work, and please pray for his family. His wife, 11 month old and himself were killed. Please pray for his sister as she is still in critical condition. Fatal Crash on I-35 By KGNS News Story Created: Jul 3, 2010 Story Updated: Jul 3, 2010 As most people are out and about on this July the Fourth weekend, traffic on our highways is always a concern. Already an accident on Interstate 35 claims the life of three people, it's our top story. Three are dead and another is in serious condition after an 18-wheeler veered from the southbound lane to the northbound lane and crushed an oncoming Toyota. The crash happened this morning at mile marker 44 just outside of Encinal. The Toyota was carrying two adults and two children. A 21 year old male was driving with a 21 year old female in the passenger seat, both died in the wreck as well as an 11 month old boy. A 13 year old girl was in the back and is in grave condition. She was transported to a San Antonio hospital. The driver of the semi, who was hauling sand, was unharmed in the collision. Officials have not released the names of the victims and whether or not they were Laredoans. Texas State troopers are still investigating. We'll bring you more details as they become available.
  11. This happened a couple of weeks ago. Ya just never know what is coming at ya!!!! This happened in Northern New Brunswick, Canada. LAC-BAKER - A 59-year-old man is dead following a bizarre motorcycle accident this week in Lac-Baker, near Edmundston. The Mounties said Thursday that the man died Wednesday afternoon when his bike was struck by an unattended pickup truck that rolled out of a driveway and onto Route 120. The driver of the truck apparently left his vehicle, believing it was safely parked. The truck will undergo a mechanical inspection. The victim's name has not been released.
  12. This occurred this AM about 11:00. http://www.wciv.com/news/stories/0510/734839.html?ref=em Mount Pleasant, SC - Police say two motorcyclists were killed in an accident when their motorcycles were struck and pushed into cars in Mount Pleasant on Tuesday. The Mount Pleasant Police say 50-year-old James Hines from New York and 80-year-old James Doucette from Florida died from injuries sustained from the accident. According to authorities, the two motorcycles were stopped in traffic near the intersection of 17 South and Anna Knapp. Police say the two motorcycles were then struck from behind by an SUV, which then pushed the two motorcycles into a car in front and then in to another car. Authorities say both men were in town for bike week. They were transported to MUSC where they died. The accident is still under investigation, charges are pending. Highway 17 south was closed for about three hours. ________________________________________________________________________ I got there shortly after they loaded 3 ambulances & headed on south into Charleston. There was a Harley laid over on it's left side with the aft end from the tank back under a large van (with the front of the van mashed......I think the pic in the article is that bike from the reverse angle) and what looked like 3 or 4 others on the ground with all manner of pieces bent & missing. I can't recall ever seeing that much bike debris....it was everywhere. The speed limit in that area (2 stoplights N of the Ravenel Bridge on Hwy 17 S) is 45 and is stop and go any time of the day; but especially that time of day. I'll stop short of speculating what the SUV driver did or didn't do and simply ask for prayers for all concerned. There were at least 6-8 other bikes parked a little beyond the wreck; I'm guessing they were part of a group ride and the 2 that were killed were at the tail end possibly separated from the rest by a car, but I don't know. All of the radio stations have been doing almost 1/2 hourly PSAs about watching out and reminding people that bikes are out in numbers......it's just not enough. Our presence just doesn't seem to be being made important enough to the rest of the driving public!
  13. I am concidering buying a Kumho, The darkside is very appealing, traction, cost, and tire life, but, a good friend asked me: If you had an accident with a car tire on your bike, would your insurance cover you? Anyone know? Mark FYI For canadian riders. I made a call to Primmum insurance. Asking about using car tires on a motorcycle. He laughed, "the dark side". He seemed to know all about it! Then said, "this is an unacceptable modification and if you don’t disclose this modification to the insurance company and are involved in an accident your insurance will be void, under material misrepresentation. You will also be tagged and not be able to get insurance for three years". He said most insurance companys will be the same. Please check for yourself.
  14. I just got an e-mail message that my late wife's cousin's husband was involved in an accident in Edmonton on Monday. Another case of a driver making a left turn in front of the bike rider. Be careful out there everyone. Our families don't need the grief. Here's the note. I spent the whole day Tues. at the hospital. He was out of surgery around 1:45 pm. On his way to his room he saw me waiting and gave me a little wave. After 15 minutes of prep I was able to sit next to him. I never spoke to any doctors, none came around while I was there. Tony woke up sometime last night or this morning (April 27) and did not know where he was. He does not recall the accident.. They told him you are in the hospital and you were in a bike accident. He fought to stay awake the whole time I was there and ate a big supper although kept closing his eyes after a few bite and I would say Tony and he would open his eyes and start chewing. He was given a shot for pain, ate well and I left him afterwards. He remembers everything expect the accident. He asked me where it happened and how. Wow!!! The police officer I spoke to said the guy actually stopped as Tony hit him and that saved his life. Thank you Lord !!!!!!!!!! He is also being charged with the accident ( the other guy not Tony). The guy was making a left at the intersection and Tony going straight through. What Tony tells me is that they put a plate in his left wrist as well as his ankle and there are some broken ribs. I want to actually confirm everything with the surgeon Dr. Webber. At one point he said to me " I guess my bike ain't pretty". I said nope and changed the subject. I actually don't even know where it is. The accident happened south of Edmonton closer to International airport in a town called Nisku. I am thinking a towing co, there has it. He has his right wrist wrapped that sustained a gouge of a cut that they stitched and of course his left wrist wrapped. I was amaze at how well he managed to eat by himself although I had to cut his food. He did look fine and his sense of humour was present in a few of our conversations. He was told 6-8 weeks before he can walk. The healing process starts now. He was in good spirits today, just droggy from the meds.
  15. so, i'm sure alot of you guys have your wives or significant others so.. i have a .. concern with my wife riding with me. I had a tank slap today, combined with high wind.. quick thinking and a strong guardian angel were the only factors that kept me from becoming a hood ornimate on a volvo tractor trailer. my wife decided not to go on the trip with me, and i'm extreemly thankful, because if she had been on the bike, i don't know if we would have made it out. so my delimma is having my wife ride with me. i don't know if i could ever come to terms with her being hurt because of an accident when i got her into this to begin with. she's not an avid rider, but she has atgatt and likes to take a trip now and then. We've talked about riding alot more as a pair, the reason i got this venture, infact. I'm just not sure about it. any of you go thought this? any advice?
  16. for those that have an 09 or 10 RSV, what's ballpark of what you paid. not trying to be too nosey, but after the accident, i think i am going to get a brand new one. thanks. ben

    Bad news...

A guy i know was killed in a farm accident this weekend. Mike was 58 years old, he was caught in a grain bin and suffocated. It is a terrible tragedy, anybody who lives on, or grew up on a farm, knows how dangerous this can be. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Knoll family of Conde S.D. Mike was a good person, and had just taken delivery of a Harley trike last Friday. He took a quick spin down the road and back. His accident happened on saturday. Mike is survived by a wife, 3 daughters, and a Harley trike with 3 miles on it. At least he got to feel a little wind in his face. PEACE MIKE........
  18. On 12/22/09 my friend Garry Brown died in a motorcycle accident. Somehow he went into the opposing lane on a curve and hit a cement truck head on. We don't know why, it was just a tragic accident. The bike and truck burst into flames. The truck driver is ok. Garry was 61 and a prospect member of the Alamo City Gypsy MC. Below is a picture of Garry as Santa just a few days before on the Elf Louise toy run. JB
  19. Okay, we have a young wipper-snapper of 16 riding a Venture now, ????? but how many women ride one??????? I'm the only one in Australia. And I did ride it two wheel before my accident (Quike now) So, do we have any in the U.S. or Canada
  20. Hi all, I would appreciate some prayers. I posted a week or two ago about the accident I had the Friday before Labor Day. I went down on the intersate in rush hour traffic. My helmet hit the pavem, ent so hard I more than likely would have been braian dead if I hadn't had it on. Aftyer reading the accident report this past weeken I also found out that a semi truck barely missed me as I was passed out in the middle lane of the freeway. Thankfully the driver was able to brake a swerve enough to get around me. God was with me and I didn't even get a broken bone. Only some road rash, very sore muscles, etc. from which I am recovering quickly. I also mentioned they found I had some enlarged lymph nodes in my chest area when they did the CAT scan in the emergency department. I followed uip with the doctor and found out on that visit that I also have a "nodule" in my left lung. Talk about a punch in the gut. I was never a smoker. They won't say anything else until they know for sure. They have already got me into a pulmonologist tomorrow and he will be scheduling a bronchoscopy for me so they can get a biopsy of the thing to see what we are dealing with. As for the bike, I got a call last night telling me they are going to total it. I am calling the adjuster back in a few minutes to get the details. So I will be Ventureless but will still hang around if you don't mind. My wife wants an end to the biking and I am just dealing with the health issues right now. So we'll give it some time to see how we feel in the Spring. I am feeling like maybe the accident happened so I would find whatever it is that is taking up residence in my lung. I am normally not good about going to the doctor and really haven't had any clue that there I appreciate you all. Ride safe.
  21. On 27 May I had a drunk cross lanes and hit me head-on. Deputy let him walk and the first thing he done after I was in ambulance was claim I crossed over and hit him. Most of you already know all about this just wanted to make it clear. I have fought since then to get blame where it belongs. Insurance told me today that they are going to visit scene 15th of Oct. They did take pics of the accident and I am confident that unless reconstructionst is a complete Idiot they will put the blame on the other guy where it belongs. I just can't believe it takes this long. What do they gain by dragging it out this long? they have to know what they are putting me thru. Just needed to vent. I have pics of the accident if I could figure out how to scan them and post them. I know there are a few that were interested in them.
  22. My daughter just called with some bad news. Her husband does filming for Destination Daytona. Bruce Rossmeyer, the owner was killed in a bike accident today. From what she said he was struck by an RV. Prayers go out to the Rossmeyer family....... http://www.wesh.com/news/20229340/detail.html
  23. My friend in the Hospital. This is the one who went down in april and was in a coma, [ame=http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=34735]another biker down - VentureRider.Org[/ame] . He is now up and walking around without any assistance or aids. He is still in the brain trauma ward were every thing is dull and depressing, with locked doors and fenced in yards. He seem to think he is in prison and can,t understand what it is he did that got him there. His mother warned me that he may or may not know me but when I walked in and the orderly asked if he knew me, He said yes right away and told him my were I worked and what I did for a living. I spent 2 hours with him and other than him thinking he was in prison and does not remember the accident at all he for all intents seeemed to be 90% of his normal self. His spirits were high and we joked and laughed all the while. The only thing that never came up was motorcycle talk, and this guy lived and breathed motorcycles his whole life. The best part is that his progress continues to exceed the doctors expectations.
  24. Got a Nuvi 885 forsale, used very little,,, reason: I aquired a Zumo 660 by accident so I'm going to keep the Zumo. If anybody is interested let me know. $300.00cdn
  25. Up here in Canada we are real tough on drivers. In today's (Feb 28) Victoria Times Colonist newspaper. Jodee Hanson 42, was found not guilty of dangerous driving causing the death of a motorcyclist and not guilty of dangerous driving causing bodily harm to the motorcycle passenger, who required surgery and missed several weeks of work. Instead she pled guilty to driving without due care and attention. She got a $1500 fine and a four month suspension of her driving license. All she did was tailgate a minivan, pull out across a double solid line, cut a corner and kill a motorcyclist. The kicker is that she has had 18 driving convictions including 10 moving violations and 7 speeding tickets. One of the violations occurred after the accident. Four months before the accident she was pulled over for speeding in a school zone. She has also been in 9 accidents. She is the community relations representative for McDonald's restaurants in Victoria. She turned on the tears in court and said the accident had a major impact on her..... awww....poor baby!
