1. Found this funny video on another site. Enjoy! http://sorisomail.com/partilha/83108.html
2. I got to say this is the best change I have made on my bike to date. I always found that the forks on this bike are never right. If you have no air in them they are too mushy and if you even have a little air in them you get a very hard unforgiving ride. Hit a pot hole and you blow your kidneys out you butt and on a on ramp it almost chattered and went sideways if you hit bumps in the lean. After seeing a post by Rick Butler I decided to try something Rick had done. I installed Sonic Springs in a heavier rate (120) and added the Racetech Gold fork emulators. Basically you are eliminating the air assist and adding spring. Also you are making the shock a variable dampening unit instead of an unadapting hard on the bumps shock. Now the bike is surefooted in turns and on rough roads a much more comfortable ride. Now to do the rear shock. I planed to wait but I found the infamous pool of oil under the shock and its not warrantied. Second one in a 16000 mi range. I ordered the Works.
3. well i went out for a ride after fixing the venture with the upgrade fuse box. from skydoc_17 let me tell you it works great. nothing wrong with the bike here is how my day went. i stopped at a resturant for something to eat. i had a nice old leather jacket i had for many years. i left to go to the batroom came back and had my dinner. went to leave and s##t my jacket was gone. insurance paper to the bike in there a copy. and a old coin i found with the date my mom was born 1932. i carry that for luck. she passed at age of 60 in 1992. i can replace the coin. but funds wont let me get a jacket. i found some cheap imitation ones on fleabay for $29.95 im sure they wont hold up if i went down? realy irks me i had that jacket since 1990. my brother got it for me. he passed from pancreatic cancer 5 years ago. i just hope the jerk who took it enjoys it. if he,s stupid enough to wear it with a brainerd MN patch on right side. and i see him im going to run him over. and test that jacket for him.
4. Has anyone found a decent alternative to replace the stock rear shock on the RS Venture? This is the third one to go on me.
5. I am interested in those crash bar mounted wind deflectors that I have seen on a few of you guys' RSVs. The best price I have found is $162 at Cyclepartswarehouse.com. They are $199 in the Star catalog. Anyone found a bettrer deal?
6. Last year on VentureRider I, someone wrote up how to make homemade electric clothing. Unfortunately I didn't make a copy. If that person is still around could you re submit in particular I am interested in were the electronic controller was found. Thanks
7. well after 1 1/2 yrs i got the 86 i bought stripped down for a frame swap and re-paint. with help from the brother of a co-worker who want to learn about working on bikes, we got it down to the engine ready to remove from frame. alread found several problems as we took things off. the whole area below battery box is corruded up from acid, need to clean and re paint computer mount, clean and coat wiring blocks with electric gel. found diaphrams in carbs stiff and holes in them, need to order new ones. linkage set-screw between 2 of the carbs was loose and not opening the carbs at the same rate, could have never got them synced right. other than that it's in pretty good shape over-all. i'll have a few spare parts left over, because he gave me 2 extra fake gas tank covers, 1 radio and some other parts i need to find out what there for. the seat is in bad shape as the cover is cracked-up, if anybody has a good one or know where i can get this one re-covered that would work. i'm going to take it to a guy who did some other work for me and see if he can do it reasonable. looking foward to getting it back together and see how it turns out.
8. Many of you have read about my unending oil changes with little to no change in the ugly wine that got worse as the bike heated up. On my ride to the Flight 93 Memorial (180 miles) I was NOT at all annoyed with the wine. On the way home the bike was hotter ( could tell with my temp. gauge) and it did get slightly louder. Before I left home on Tuesday I had a problem with my right behind the ear hearing aid, wouldn't work correctly so I left with the left one only. Now it must be said that my right ear is the better of the 2 but I'm not deaf without it. The wine had dissipated to hardly noticeable both ways - what I have found since is that the right ear 'pitch' with the aid in is magnifying the wine. Wish I had found this about 4 or 5 oil changes ago. Could have saved a couple hundred $$$$$$ So, from now on I'll just ride w/o the right ear aid - problem solved !!
9. I found a Prestone synthetic DOT 4 it says it is good for DOT 3 & 4 applications. Is this a good fluid for our Gen 2 bikes? Thanks for all your help.
10. Look what I found near Burnet, Tx....
11. Does anyone know if there is supposed to be only 6 volts at the turn signals? I need 12 volts to power an LED light array. After installing them I found them to be too dim, so I put a volt meter on the signal lead and found 6 volts. Is this normal? If I jump to the battery I come up to full brightness. Any solutions? I thought about using relays but is that the best solution? If so what kind of relay should I use and how do I wire it?
12. Looking for information if anyone else has ever had a issue with cruise not canceling when tapping front brake? I had found one post about this 2 years old so must not be a common problem?

Consensus

Were heading out tomorrow morning and I was wondering if I could get a consensus on a thought. I went out and bought 4 magnetic key holders and a souvenir to put in them. On our trip if we find a scenic view or a nice picnic area etc…we will hide the key holder on something metal and later post the coordinates on this site for someone from this group to find. They in turn, could take the souvenir, replace it with some other keepsake and put it back to be found again. The coordinates would only be on this site so it would probably be found by one of us. I will try to make it hard to find. The coordinates should get you within 10 feet or so. Metal and magnetic should make it easier to find but you might have to look under or behind, so it won’t be in plain view. There is the possibility someone finding it by accident but we could put a note in the case, asking them to please replace it, taking and replacing the keepsake if they wish. I think most would? Members could report a "no find", so others could skip the search at that spot. What do you think? Any suggestions are more than welcome. Sorry if this is already being done. I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes or steal someone else’s thunder.
14. Im new so I guess they are called fairing grills. Im thinking these intake spaces would be a good place for driving/marker lights. After removing the screws, I found something else is holding them. Can somebody tell me how they come out? Thanks ! 1988 VR
15. I'm currently on a road trip from New Mexico to wahoo NE. and when I last stopped for gas I noticed a plate sized circle of fluid on the ground jusy below the raditor at first I thought oh no a radiator leak but after looking closer found out it was fuel couldn't find any leaks so I continued on to my final stop after I arrived and said hello to family I went to move the bike to a better location and there was the plate sized circle of fuel. This morning took off the lower fairing and found that fuel had come out of both hoses by the air filters. is this something I should be concerned about or do I have a major problem. I want to get this taken care of before I head back next week.

2010 Flames?

Has anyone found out weather or not the flames on the 2010S are clear coated.
17. Found this while looking at biker sunglasses. The ride on our 83 took us on 66 occasionally back in 02. Good read and music along with some unknown facts about how the movie was made.http://www.mrzip66.com/2009/04/20/route-from-the-movie-easy-rider-map/
18. Got my "I" basket installed took the "F" basket out. All looked good inside except for a few things I found. 1. the locking tab was not bent against the nut that holds the clutch hub. ???? But the nut was tight 2. the friction plates were lined up but not inline with the 3 dot as described in the manual and the tech article here. They were lined up where there is one dot. All the friction plates were measured with a caliper and little or no wear was found. no glazing found. Rotating plates all had perforations in them...I am used to seeing smooth rotating plates. No heat discolor and no warping. All of them were not polished smooth. No wear on the old basket or the clutch hub. Ran to today about 270 miles. I am pleased. No clutch churp...the bike does not sound like a Jenson mobile anymore. It does not seem that it moved it to another RPM, or I have not found that RPM yet. There is still gear noise...from mostly the left side but not that high pitch churp It is not quite machine, I do not expect it will ever be. I am glad I changed the basket. It is a lot better. Don't expect the "I" basket to totally get rid of all machine noise cause I don't think it will. On some bikes it will help.
19. Glad, I found this forum I just purchased a '92 Venture! So HEY!!
20. Saw a couple Ventures yesterday, we went over and walked around, but blessing is today. Forgot the camera too but today its first thing Im grabbing. Estimated to be about 30 000 biikes there today. Also met a fella that is trying to tell me he found 3 Millinium's all with the number 761, so that there were multiple numbers made of all. I told him about our list and said I didnt believe it. Anyone headed out there today? maybe we'll see ya there. Baldwin Michigan
21. Hi every one. "As we are coming into winter, the mornings are cold. " One morning I went to get food and found radiator fluid leaking from one of the drain plugs. It was on the right front side of the engine today I worked on the bike and found that the left rear is also leaking. My question is can I just pull them out and reseat them or should I replace them Thanks
22. Here is the link to the pics. We had a great time and even ChickenHawk found a live snake to play with http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/Sleeperhawks%20Mechanic%20Jacksonville%20ME%2020100508/
23. I was riding home a few weeks ago, when I noticed that the CLASS system door was riding up into the wind. When I got home I found that the latch had broken off of the door somehow and now I am on the lookout for another. I found one on Flea Bay, but @ $79 + shipping, it is a little like blowing a tire in the little town with one tire shop, you know you need it, you just know you are going to pay through the nose for it. Also, I have noticed a harmonic vibration in the handlebars that is making my hands go to sleep. Any ideas? I have 5600 mile on the front tire, but the tread still looks good.

your "last ride"

...an interesting take on how one guy set it up is found in today's Toronto newspaper: http://www.thestar.com/news/world/article/803830--dead-biker-memorialized-astride-his-ride
25. I just changed out my rear brake disc this morning.. the previous 2 owners had gone metal on metal on the pads a few times, mostly because the inner pad wears out twice as fast as the outter one and yes, *I* even got caught like that on a road trip. I checked my pads and thought I had tons left.. but the inner pad wore out and I too found myself metal on metal on the inner rear disc. wow.. Bummer. Every time I had changed pads, I found the inner one tons thinner than the outside one.. Many of you had observed the same thing here. When I bought the bike, it was 2 years old, 20,000 miles on it and the rear disc was quite worn.. but wasn't something I really took notice of, the mechs told me "meh, seen worse but it's OK".. So I replaced the rear brake disc because it needed to be and mostly because I found a new one at a price you simply couldn't sneeze at.. I also replaced all the pads with the Double H Sintered pads from EBC. Last summer, when I replaced the rear pads, I did so with Double H Sintered pads.. I asked the shop to keep the pads for me for later examination. What was surprising is that there is no way to tell which was the inner and which was the outer pad, after 15 to 20,000 miles on them.. And I'm a heavy rear brake user because of the courses I do and the style of riding I do.. Well.. how about that.. And the pads were not even half used up yet.. But they were the same equal thickness.. Hmm how about that??? To me this is interesting. There is enough pad left to have finished off the summer on them easily.. What I will be monitoring this summer is how much brake disc material gets eaten up by the Double H pads. Someone had mentioned to me that you will sacrifice premature wear of the disc for using those pads. But you also get better braking (wow, I found that out on the way home today!) I have my shop note book of what and when I've done anything to the bike so I'll be able to keep a better record as to how much wear and tear is offered on the disc because of these pads. Based on what I observed on the first set of pads off this bike, I think I made the right choice.. However, your mileage and opinion may differ.. I'm not saying this is the absolute best route to take but it seems right to me based on what I saw and experienced.. I'll let you know if this worked out or not later this summer.. Field reports and such etc
