  1. I recently installed Harley touring Mufflers on my 07 Venture. I love the sound, but does anyone know where I can find a heatshield to cover the gap where the muffler attaches to the pipe? Would really like to clean that up, but don't want to pull the heatshield off of the stock mufflers. Thanks.
  2. This one cracked me up.... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuUQfBZJtJg]YouTube - Shake me Harley[/ame]
  3. I have been 100% disabled for about 10 years now (age 59 now) with bad lower back , 2 knee operations and 5 shoulder operations plus more. Anyway... I have a 2005 midnight Venture and seem to be starting to have balance trouble. Not when riding but the slow turning with my foot down and sometimes getting on and off. If I convert my Venture dose any kit offer reverse ? I am not a Harley guy but more Goldwing guy. Are there any model problems I should know about before getting a Wing trike ? What about other trike bikes ? Buget is open........ thanks for any help Cb
  4. I currently own a Kawasaki 1600 Classic, it's not the best bike for two-up rides, it's a little bit shy on power for this purpose IMHO and the brakes and shocks aren't cutting it either. Don't get me wrong, she's been a good bike but maybe not the best thing for hauling two people comfortably. I might keep it as my own ride and get something else for two-up. I'll admit that I was kind of feeling the tug of the Harley Glides but the price is certainly up there, the reasonable side of my brain just can't come to terms with laying out that much cash for a motorcycle. They're nice bikes alright, but not that nice! And while there's a side of me that wouldn't mind being part of the big HD family out there on the road, another side of me wants to buck this idea completely because I'd probably feel like a lemming for letting social pressure influence my choice of a bike. Believe me, I've wrestled with this on and off for a couple of years but I'm now pretty sure that the non-HD side is winning this war in my head. While I've never had the chance to ride a Venture, I've got a feeling that for two-up touring, a V-4 would be better then any bike with a V-twin anyway, no matter what brand. So, I've tried to hone in on what might be the best touring bike for me, which one ticks all the boxes, or most of the boxes. The new Vulcans are out because they're V-twins, and I've read enough reviews that were less then excited about Kawasaki's newest offerings. Plus, there's not much of a dealership network for Kawasaki here right now anyways, so they're out. There's always the Goldwing but I'm not keen on the overall look of that bike, it pretty much leaves me cold in that department. Plus, it's really pricey! Even used, they're way too much money. So, that lead me to the Yamaha Royal Star Venture. Really nice looking bike, seems to be of the highest quality too. It feels quite luxurious when you sit on it. I find it a tad top-heavy but I'm six feet tall, so I should be able to get used to it. The hardbags and trunk are super high quality. Actually, it seems that the total carrying capacity of the Venture is exactly the same as the Harley Glides. So, lots of storage capacity! It also seems to look a bit better then the Harley, especially when looking at the back end, the saddlebags and trunk don't look boxy like the Harley's. Like I already said, I guess I just can't see any sense in spending a small fortune on a motorcycle when you don't have to. The Venture is a LOT of bike and luckily, doesn't come with an inflated price. It just looks to me that the Venture is probably the best deal out there for a touring bike. It's a beautiful looking bike, performs very well, is super reliable, has a great track record, lots of them around, lots of Yamaha dealers around and is priced for the common man. Hooray!!! Can you tell that I'm really impressed with these bikes?!
  5. Hi Folks, I think the time has come to sell my 89 VR. Mainly health reasons. Some of you saw her at Dons the past couple of years. 2 tone Burgandy with Harley exhaust. Withalot of help from here on the site I have completed new fork seals and Progressive springs, new rear tire, new brakes, new Fiestick and coax, new AGM battery, complete rear end service including drive shaft, and added Harley Utra Classic exhaust. 32k on her with a lot more in her. I rode to StLouis couple years ago, straight thru and didnt get sore except for the sunburn. I don't have any pics right now and am a novice on how to add one if could but I will try. Its Never been down that I know of , I am the second owner, plastic is very good, paint is sun faded some on the tops. I can take and send pics with my phone if wanted. Please call and we can talk price. Thanks Ron/Pappa Bear
  6. Spent the weekend in Dawsonville. Wasn't on the bike, had to drive the car as was visiting a newphew in the hospital and had my wife and daughter with me. I couldn't believe the traffic. I've never seen that kind of traffic in Dawsonville before. Saturday afternoon we were going to get some apples at, I think it was RL Reece. The traffic was bumper to bumper for about 2 miles. There was a harley in front of me and I could tell it was working him to death. When you move about three feet and stop going up and down hill it is tiring. I rolled down my window and I could hear the harley engine sounding like it was coming apart. It wasn't long before he pulled over to the side of the road and switched off his bike. I meet two ventures. One was blue and the other was silver. The weather was perfect for riding. Made me wish I was on my bike.
  7. Thanks to fixitdude who sold me his stock mufflers, I removed my drilled out RK's yesterday and put the stock ones back on. It was a rare sunny warm day for this time of year and on the weekend to boot so I went out riding for the whole day. Took in the Harley demo days and rode a new Ultra Limited (103 cu in) ... great handling and decent power but, and I didn't notice this on previous Harley Ultra demos, the floorboards seemed uncomfortable and the shifter was up very high... had to literally lift my whole foot off the floorboard to shift. UGH ... didn't like that! It had the heated grips but since it was a warm day, my hands were getting kinda hot... I had no idea how to turn them off. Anyhoo, back to the mufflers ... gotta say it was a much more pleasurable ride with the stock pipes although I was much more aware of the engine whine but it's still no where near as bad as it was before I had the I-basket swap. Maybe it's just me but the bike seemed to have more power too! One thing is for sure .... it's got a lot more OOOMPH than that Ultra, especially when the revvs get up there!
  8. I had a weak moment and bought a 1986 Harley Sportster 883. This bike belonged to a fellow teacher that couldn't ride anymore. The bike sat for 3 years and I have repaired and got it road ready. This would be a great first bike and I will sale for 1400.00 under book value. I will take 4000.00 or best offer. I have rode the bike around 100 miles and runs great with no smoke. The bike has low mileage and when the speedo was removed to install drag bars the milage was at a little over 6000 miles. 870-405-3693 The bike is at Arkansas State University/ Searcy, AR Automotive Technology Department if you want to see it.
  9. Harley Davidson Recently announced a joint effort with Lexus to develope a VROD trike. The manufacturing process is said to be unconventional and the first time anything like this has been attempted. P.S. This happened about a year ago near work, no one was injured believe it or not.
  10. Don't mean to bash Harleys, I've ridden many, but this was too funny
  11. Very interesting bike....

  14. While speaking with a lifetime Harley Rider he told me the best thing about owning a Harley... You get to meet a lot of great tow truck drivers! (true story...of course i met him at work as he was on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck...)
  15. Went for a ride with some friends up to Geneva on the Lake over the weekend. My one buddy couldn't go (working) but his wife asked to join us. She wanted to ride the Harley 1200 Sportster (Nightster?) that she recently bought. A great time was had by all, and on the way home, I happened to be in the lead, with her next in line, just pulling away from a stop sign with a straigt_away ahead when I hear her stomp on it. I'm pretty quick on the draw, and did the same thing. I don't suppose I have to tell anyone here how it turned out, but it gave me a great feeling putting that Harley in it's place. She, alone, 120 pounds soakin' wet,.... me, with the wife on the back, 350 pounds between us, plus all three compartments loaded with a duffel strapped to the back. Well, lets just say we ran it up to about 85 before letting off, (wife yelling at me the whole time) and the Harley was further behind than when we started, buddies wife looking astonished. Next stop she said "that thing's a beast". (87 Standard) I believe she's correct. I love it.
  16. Slideshow of Harley pics found on Yahoo news, including several shots of Putin on a trike. http://news.yahoo.com/nphotos/Harley-Davidson/ss/events/bs/080410harleydavidson#photoViewer=/100815/ids_photos_wl/r2057557310.jpg
  17. Anyone here read the story that Zimmerman, the mechanic, in Motorcycle Cruiser Magazine, had about the Harley Davidson corporate executives? Makes them sound like incompetent and corrupt are their bylaws.
  18. One of the local Harley dealers has had a little bit of a sign change on their building. They are now a BMW and Vespa dealer. Cannot wait to see the Vespa club there in the parking lot some Saturday morning with all the hard core Harley riders.
  19. I posted a thread on harley tech talk. Somone on there by the name of Tsani in south new jersey replied." Gee yamaduck ain't kicked his butt yet? Another reply came from hotroadking and he evidently comes on this site. He had all of the post we have made here on the harley site. Very interesting.
  20. I read post where members talk about how advanced the Harley ultra is and they complain about the lack of updates on the RSV. Some buying harley's and using that as an excuse of why they bought the harley. Now if you want a Harley and can afford one buy it. I just don't see what is so updated about a harley, over the Venture. First, Looks the Ultra(electra glide) looks just as it did 50 years ago, and no Harley has no intention of changing it, loyal Harley riders would flip out. Now the modern bikes do have better chrome and more refined looks, but the RSV looks just as good, actually more streamlined to me. Most non-riders don't know the difference. I hope Yamaha does the same and never change the RSV overall appearance. Now yes the Harley is fuel injected, but that has pros and cons, I like FI until the electronic problems start. I can't tell that the sound system on the HD is any louder than the RSV, and mine sounds just as good as Bobby's did( we think his ultra is totaled) even he said mine was as good as his, there was not enough difference to count. And as far as the cassette, it just fills the hole in the dash, and by the way CD's are fast becoming a thing of the past, the Aux port is the thing now so you can plug your mp3, or ipod into it, my wife and teenager won't even bother with CD's anymore they take up to much room. So the aux port on the RSV makes it up to date with the new music eq. As far as the ride that personel preferance, I like the RSV ride, Bobby says the Ultra is smoother at 80 mph, but the RSV is smoother at lower speeds. Now yes there are tons more accessories for the harley, and Yes I guess if you think it cool to be in the IN crowd and own one, that great too, if it makes you happy go For it. Now I am just stating my opinion, not to start a war or insult anyone, but this is a RSV site and some of us think it is a near perfect riders machine. The prices the guys I know spend to service and maintain their Harley's, just recently one of the guys told me he had his serviced, oil and filters changed and belt adjusted he said her got deal at $535.00. I can't afford it. Gregg
  21. I just installed a pair of K&N filters on my 07 RSTD and ever time I work on my bike I'm just amazed of all the thought and engineering that went into these bike. These bikes are put together well. When I traded my 08 Harley FXDL for it, I was kind of skeptical but I'm here to tell you that the Harley was not put together as well as my RSTD. I can't really explain it good enough, it's just, to me, a really fine machine and I love working on it. Does anyone else feel th:dancefool:is way? Mark
  22. Greetings from Nebraska: Our neighbor owns a 1999 Royal Star. He kept it but started riding a 98 Harley Ultra. In the past two years the Harley has needed a new engine and Tranny and has been in the shop more than on the road. Rode with him on a three hundred mile ride today, the Harley only make it about 100 miles before more tranny trouble arose. He had to call for a truck and trailer. I lover my 2005 RSTD more everytime I ride it!!!!! Good thing he kept his Yamaha, looks like he is going to need it to finish out the riding season. Ride safe everyone...
  23. your working on there? the honda didn't need fixing at every stop:stirthepot:
  24. Hi Everyone! Just thought that I'd share my experience of the previous weekend. I met up with my father and his brand new 2010 Harley Street Glide. I like my RSTD quite a fair bit, but did come very close to purchasing an older model Electra Glide over it due to the Harley experience, blah blah blah. Well I can say firmly that after taking it out for the day and swapping back and forth a few times, the RSTD is now my Pride and Joy! I guess I was taking for granted how great my bike really is. Clutch whine, pfft, I'll take that any day. First off, the Harley Vibe was so strong it was shaking my to pieces. I was finding myself joking around by over exaggerating the shaking, like I was being electrocuted, when were were side-by-side at the stop light. I really didn't enjoy the vibes, especially in stop-and-go traffic - it not really fun. Yes, it did straighten out once we got going and it was nice and stable. Sound wise, well, its low and deep. Which actually gave me a pulsing headache after a few hours. But what I did notice was how GOOD my RSTD exhaust sounded. Nice and crisp, and when the old guy layed on it once he figured out the high rpm game, wow, just great. I kept trying to take off really quickly with the Glide, but was shocked to see my RSTD right in my side mirror everytime. Neck and neck, we were keeping up to each other with no difficulties, and he's got the stage 1 on the Harley. Don't get me wrong here, the Harley is a nice ride, but I was so thrilled when I got back on my RSTD! I feel like a million bucks now. Maybe I will save that much now that my Harley lust is gone down the toilet. :mo money:
  25. I've been thinking about buying another bike in a few months, and Harley was giving demos at the Knoxville bike rally this past weekend. I was surprised at some things I liked about the Harley. I hadn't ridden a Harley in years, and when I fired the first one up I thought "No"! It had the old Harley shake, but as soon as I started moving it smoothed right out. The first one I rode was an Ultra, and it was very smooth. The other things I liked was the low end power and the braking. The brakes seemed much better than my RSTD. It also handled better when stopping at red lights if that makes sense. Then I tried a Road Glide. It seemed basically the same except the riding position. After riding about 10 miles my back was hurting. I don't know if it was the way the handlebars were adjusted or what, but I was disappointed in the ride. Then I tried an Electraglide Classic and it rode better than the Ultra. I really liked it.I think they are basically the same bike, and I think it was just the way the controls were adjusted. Overall I was pretty happy with the way they rode. I think I was expecting more vibration and worse handling.
